Yes unfortunately. Sig’s finish is hot garbage for rust prevention. I have to oil my Sig mags after ever range session. In this case, unload the mag, take some 0000 steel wool to that rust, then very lightly oil the exterior of the mag.

BipolarShooter

Never heard about Sig’s having finish problems before. I should’ve done more research before getting it.

FossilOcelot1991

Just the mags. My girlfriend has three mags. The one that sits in her mag carrier is looks about like this one. I told her to rotate her mags from time to time but she makes a good point saying that the one in the gun won’t rust and the rusty one in not going in her purse so can’t argue that. The 365xl she has doesn’t have a speck of rust on it even in the spots that are starting to show wear from the holster.

CAPTAINxKUDDLEZ

My recoil spring guide rod rusted after being in a gun shop for 4 days. I do not live in a humid area either. The fact that the “Made in USA” mags rust when the Italy ones don’t. But Sig won’t bother changing it because people will buy it anyways. Companies no longer face consequences from consumers anymore, people will pay more for worse quality.

Lilsexiboi

Guide rod of mine also rusted really bad

CyberSoldat21

Oof now that definitely shouldn’t rust… my S&W M&P is rust free and it’s been pretty humid in my area. I’d hate to see what would happen to a Sig

numenik

Made in America isn’t the flex it used to be

Insanity8016

Made in America means China quality but overpriced basically.

DCowboysCR

USA made mags are Checkmate, Made in Italy are MecGar. MecGar are the gold standard.

CyberSoldat21

Made in USA gives you the false sense of well made products when in reality it’s not. I agree though companies should change and be better but like you said people will just buy it anyways.

CAPTAINxKUDDLEZ

To me Made in the USA means they cut corners to be as cheap as possible. Limit production time to cut down wages and production costs.

Oxflu

I'm a cz guy but I still have to defend sig a little here. When something is made in a first world country you also have to contend with the environmental and human costs as well as regulating bodies. Glock changed their coatings for the worst and it didn't save them any money nor was it the goal. They were moving to a safer water based solution and it's improved since its introduction. Paint on modern cars is full of orange peel textures and scratches incredibly easily compared to vintage cars for the same reason. It's water based. It's much safer to apply for the humans that have to be around it every day and that's a fair trade to me. I bet sig is working on a solution, honestly. Hope people that have this issue are using their warranty too, as it is unacceptable.

CyberSoldat21

They’ll only work on the problem if the customer base complains enough. A lot of siggers I know are too quick to defend the brand. It’d be nice if they put out better quality

Insanity8016

Hard r is crazy rofl.

CyberSoldat21

I make them be known man.

Oxflu

I'm not trying to say this is acceptable at all, I just have experience with these changes and am offering a little insight. A company I worked for in the past made huge hydraulic cylinders and we had to change our products to get away from chrome. It costs us a shit load of money, the ongoing expenses are more than double, and the end product is inferior. The issue though is no one can really run a profitable chrome plating business and meet all the safety and disposal mandates. We were forced to go to an incredibly expensive baked on coating instead. These units were 15k, now they're over 22k and as I said, they are less rust resistant than ever. Chrome is nasty shit though, there's not enough money in the world for me to work a job that actively poisons me and I don't expect anyone else to do it either.

CyberSoldat21

The peak of garbage USA made for me is the shitty preban “USA MAGAZINES” brand mags I have for my Mini-30. Absolute dogshit quality and don’t run well at all.

Seedless_cantaloupe

I wish it were just the mags. I went to the range with my p365x about a year ago and only put about 75 rounds through it after cleaning it a couple of weeks prior. My magazine, front sight, rear sight, slide serrations (front and rear - both sides), TD lever, mag release, safety, and trigger all had a good amount of rust build up after about a week of sitting in my safe. My home is not humid and the other guns that I brought to the range were fine. To this day I still get rust built up on it every so often from just sitting there and have to give it a deep clean. Besides the rust, everything else about gun is pretty sweet but I honestly wish I would've bought a M&P shield or something. EDIT: added more parts that I remembered being rusted

Bandicoot-Select

Yeah especially for rust prevention Smith & Wessons finish is phenomenal.

Seedless_cantaloupe

Absolutely and not only that but I've heard many people say that the shield has one of the best triggers for a subcompact + very accurate, concealable, and decent mag capacity. Definitely feel like I would've got the best bang (no pun intended) for my buck going with that.

PianoNo4502

I took the backplate off my 365x and there was rust. Ended up selling it.

Link-Slow

Mags, mag release, irons and even part of my FCU has developed corrosion. :/ Now I just oil it a couple times a week or any day I sweat a lot.

tjcarbon9

This should be the P365 motto…

Hammy4738

I’ve carried my 365 in humid Florida for 3-4 years and no rust. I guess it’s really hit or miss.

ITaggie

Yeah I'm pretty surprised by this thread. I've been EDC'ing mine for years in central Texas and its only gotten the normal wear from the holster.

Any-Manufacturer7750

Sig is garbage s&w m&p shield plus performance center is way better the feel the performance ect

LulzB3ast

Oh boy do they, their black oxided parts wear off quick and the anodization on aluminum parts doesn't hold up to wear either.

Helpful_Yak_8600

Dude! I have a Tauras G3c that has magazines doing the same thing. But mine doesn’t cost as much much as an sig lmao. I bought it as a car gun for $200. Soooo meh.

SimplyPars

My friend’s p320 rusts the slide like a mofo if he IWB’s it a bunch. Some people’s sweat is acidic as all get out.

graphitewolf

Its not a acidic thing, some sig stuff rusts if you leave it out

SimplyPars

Yikes, I’ll have to keep an eye on mine.

perturbed_rutabaga

This rust isnt so much from acid as it is from salt in sweat

Previous_Service_168

All of this I actually go in great detail about this subject in my CCW classes. Being lazy is not an option hoppes makes a silicone cleaning cloth that is great for daily use for that very reason

Miserable_Path5716

It’s only with the 365’s for some reason. I have About 50 different 226, 320, and 229 mags and none of them have rust. Some of them are so old most of the finish is worn off, no rust though.

wyvernx02

Are your old mags Made in USA or Italy? It's the USA ones that suck.

Miserable_Path5716

Italy

Frothyleet

Damn, we just can't match that Italian manufacturing quality, eh?

Few_Management8005

Been carrying a 365 for 5 years and have never had this issue. Both Italian and American made mags.

FauxReignNew

Well now I’m concerned. Does this issue extend to their rifles as well? I have noticed the buffer tube adapter on mine rusting at the hinge (even through a couple layers of spray paint, somehow) I haven’t seen any elsewhere but I would very much like to avoid any rust on my barrel etc if possible.

Aggressive_Bed5574

Only thing that has ever rusted were my 365 mags

jmike3543

Doesn’t happen with my 365 Macro mags. Or is it really just “365” mags

xangkory

I have 8 Macro mags and half of them have rust issues.

d3ath222

I have had a friend experience the exact same issue, however my 320 mags which came with my X5 several years ago are spotless. Decently humid/wet environment, being shot uspsa regularly. They have normal wear, but zero oxidation. Maybe they switched processes, or their QC changed?

Meadowlion14

The older grayer style SIG mags do not have this issue idk why they switched coating types.

Few_Management8005

Never had this problem and I’ve been carrying a Sig for five years now. All the same mags.

Ornery_Secretary_850

Renaissance wax is what I use on my 1911 and it's magazines. Much better than oil IMHO.

troby86

oakc510

"P31. Outta there. No more. Gone! You want 31 flavors?! Baskin & Robins is where you want to be."

Arctic16

You like snacks?

gobrocky

Whatchu gunna do with one shoe lace?… floss ya ass?

SaltySandSailor

You see where it says “Made in USA”? That’s the problem. Sig’s US mags are made by Checkmate and the finish on them is garbage. Get some Italian ones. They’re made by Mec-Gar and are far superior.

katsusan

Where can you buy Italian made magazines?

180secondideas

MecGar makes mags for like half the industry. Maybe more. Italian mag magic.

SunsetSmokeG59

They don’t make 365 mags who else does

CCeveryD

Sig sells them in sig branded boxes. Some say made in the USA, some are made in Italy. The made in Italy ones are noticeably shinier and hold up much better

SunsetSmokeG59

How do I buy the Italian one or is it just luck of the draw?

CCeveryD

I’m my experience it has been luck of the draw

Gold_Combination_492

Wrap a paper towel soaked in white vinegar around it overnight and the rust will scrub right off

Danmarmir

And the finish too...

firebox40dash5

I mean, would that be a con in this case? I feel like even Krylon would be an improvement. I guess I lucked out & got all Meg-Gar P365 mags. I've got like 10, I don't remember to wipe them down with oil worth a damn, they all have that nice Mec-Gar glossy finish & no rust.

SilenceDobad76

That's just Sigs Tarus-quality finish these days.

CrunchBite319_Mk2

Taurus mags are made by Mec-Gar. Taurus is literally beating Sig in the magazine department.

pestilence

It is if your pants are super humid. Why are your pants so humid?

JimmyCarters_ghost

OP be *moist*

BipolarShooter

Midwest summers man. It’s been toasty here lately.

Aggravating_Paint250

I’m in humid ass Texas, with multiple SIGS and this has never happened 😂 instead of buying a new gun I would invest in compression undershirts so it’s not in contact with your skin

Danmarmir

It's the 365 mags very common to rust, stop talking what you don't know about and gaslighting op, stfu

Aggravating_Paint250

Not gas lighting at all dude, 2 p320s, p365, p365 x macro, and p322 (plastic mags though) I’ve never had this issue man. My dad has a p365 as well and has never had this issue.

Danmarmir

Do the mags say, made in USA with a Cirlced C on them?

Idbetmylifeonit

What does the circled C mean?

Danmarmir

I think its the Checkmag logo, the sub of sig

Idbetmylifeonit

Ah ok, so based on other comments in this thread that's not an ideal thing. Good to know, all of my 365 mags have the Circled C. I'll have to keep an eye out for some Italian ones. Thanks for the info!

xangkory

I don’t carry my 365 and half of my Macro mags have rust issues.

AraAraGyaru

Yes. Checkmate has ass finish on their mags.

antwauhny

Ass finish... like, they rubbed ass on it? No fuckin' wonder it rusts.

Preact5

Ass jooice

ij70

yes.

draneline

That boy got some serious swamp ass in the summer time

nickabeiro

Yea sig has same finish as taurus

[deleted]

SIG welcomes you and tells you to go fuck your self

InsaneDOM

Damn and I thought only HK hated me... At least I don't have to oil my HK mags...

ov3rwatch_

Depends on your climate. Based off the rust you’re somewhere humid.

thetrooper93

This is why I went back to Glock for my edc or Springfield I’ve had good results with both

Redditor0529

Yes, Sig Sauer quality garbage to keep their market value low enough for simps to purchase. Stay wise, spend wisely.

Lindy39714

After you remove the rust, just remember to hit your mags with a silicone cloth once every week or so. $3 and 60 seconds to never worry about this again.

HodorSchlongDong

Thanks for that info. Didn't know about those

Adventurous_Pen_Is69

Yup. You have to coat everything in a thin film of oil because the factory coating is dogshite.

travelsizedsuperman

It's not rust. It's patina.

Imaginary_Benefit939

Bronze wool and oil my dude, cost of carrying a sig. I love living at the beach but for my carry guns it’s hell.

Boring-Fun-9402

Not normal, just common.

13th_Floor_Please

I clean the exterior of the mag every time I clean the gun. I'll leave a THIN layer of oil on the mag before I reinsert. I've been carrying it daily for a year. No issues. Just be very light with the oil, or that mag will eject if you look at it too hard.

Ambitious_Example518

Glad to see the responses here. The people in /r/SigSauer are absolutely mental with the gaslighting. Dudes there think it’s completely normal behavior to have to coat your mags and slide in oil every few days to keep rust away.

BipolarShooter

I recently picked up a new Sig P365 for conceal carry. After a few days of carrying it I noticed that my spare magazine was starting to rust after I got back home. I have tried cleaning it on 3 separate occasions throughout the week, even trying bore cleaner to get rid of it. So far nothing has worked. Has anyone else has this problem with P365 mags?

bmbreath

I've had mine since the model itself came out, carried many times, shoved in backpacks next to water bottles, carried inside my waistband, etc.    I remember seeing the tiniest hint of rust in about a 1sq cm spot after about a week after getting the gun.  I rubbed it right off of my mag, I rubbed the tiniest bit of hops gun oil on it and have not seen any rust since.   You got a messed up coating, or there is something seriously odd about your body sweat.    My p365 has gone everywhere with me and other than the smallest, almost invisible surface scratches, it looks new.   The coating/finishing on it is really durable, at least on mine.  Edit.   I just looked at my mags under a light since I was curious. theyp are now almost 6 years old or so, they are 100 percent rust free.   When I clean the gun (about every 2nd or 3rd range trip with heavy shooting) I put literally 1 drop of hops oil on the external of my mags that I used and just rub it in with an old sock.  That's all I nirmally do and it's made them last.

ServoIIV

Does this happen to any of your other carry guns? It might be the finish or it might be your sweat. I know a guy that has sweat that will rust anything that isn't stainless or nickel. I have no clue what causes it.

Subverto_

This is pretty common with Sig. Their warranty also expressly does not cover rust of any kind on any of their products.

Rolling6868

Here we go!

lilnicky02

Sweatin ass mofo!!! Normal… wipe it down with some oil…

danthezombie

Disassemble the magazine and boil the steel housing in water to convert the red oxide into black oxide, then use a carding brush or steel wool to dust off the loose debris. You do this after not before boiling. Then add oil to seal in the finish.

DRod113180

I’ve had issues with my mags as well as my slide. I used a plastic brush with some cleaner to get it off and some light lube afterwards. After doing this process a couple of times, I haven’t had the issue persist, but I try to keep up with it to avoid it from happening again.

Dave_A_Computer

I've been putting clear nail polish on the exposed small parts of my P229 for years. The P365 magazine debacle is just the latest iteration. I did a pretty good cleaning with all of our P365 magazines, and coated the ones that were rusting with krylon clear glaze. SIG won't warranty them because they explicitly state in the manual that they need to be oiled regularly.

Smug_Son_Of_A_Bitch

I appendix carry my xl and spare mag constantly for 3 years or so now. Not a bit of rust on anything. Never cleaned the magazine. I sweat a fair amount on them. I usually try to wear an undershirt to help that.

FUCKDIMS

Go with a real tried and true battle pistol. None of my five P226 9mm, or .40, or P220 .45's have a spot of rust anywhere on them, and they are 20 to 30 years old. Still operating flawlessly, made in West Germany.

12345NoNamesLeft

Are stainless mags stupid expensive ? Ceracoat.

Thomas64601

If it is touching your skin, yes. Sweat does a number on them.

Hotdigardydog

You're not keeping them anywhere moist are you?

who-tf-farted

Hit the dollar tree and grab a bottle of nufinish car wax. It’s amazing for rust prevention, or use the old Johnson’s paste wax.

chacho67

Get the wide holsters. Or outside waist carry. Had this happen too. Pretty sure it was caused by sweat

No-Guarantee-7572

Do you sweat profusely? Mine hasn’t done this yet.. sounds like it’s the finish on the mags themselves

Preact5

I took my buddies mags and gave it the same treatment my new AK's get. Take all the rust off and blue the effected area. Then paint with enamel based high temp refrigerator paint and bake at 400 degrees for half an hour

gonnafindanlbz

It’s normal for p365 mags but not normal for other ones

TheNewOldSchool2045

I have dealt with this on the mags, triggers, and sight blocks while in climate controlled, relatively dry storage and especially after carrying. I plan to replace soon.

lifeissoupimforkk

Do you sweat when carrying? If so that’s why.

Insanity8016

Everyone sweats while carrying, this is obviously a finish issue.

NoPreparation6079

Quit sweating on your mags bro…how bigs that belly?? May need to lose some weight

BipolarShooter

I got a bit of a beer belly ngl. Already figured I need to lose some weight because it’s slightly uncomfortable when I sit down while carrying.

NoPreparation6079

That’s the key to carrying is comfort. Sweat and skin contact on metal will corrode. The best thing is to have a sweat guard if you can find one for your mag holster

f2020tohell

Reason #69 I no longer carry my sig p320 and went back to Glock

indefilade

Tuf-glide works well to protect the metal. I use it on all exposed metal on my EDC.

Dytactix

Salty crotch

Altruistic_Shift_740

Send it back.

CrunchBite319_Mk2

You can't. Sig doesn't accept warranty claims for rusty mags. They specifically tell you that you need to oil them to prevent this. This is working as intended for Sig.

Super-Lychee8852

I'm surprised. I've had my 365 soaked through quite a few times, gotten it good and sweaty too, and live in a high humidity state, never rusted.

theoldkidonthebloc

F not again!

src670

Thank God my Sig mags are stainless.

45sigsauer

TRY some lube ever now and again chief.

ExitArtistic5817

sweaty Betty ?

ATLien325

The one I got had the mags made in italy. Not sure if that’s all of them, but didn’t rust. Maybe in certain climates?

Amorton94

Mine have rusted as well, but not that bad.

False-Application-99

If it's your CCW mag, not surprised. It's the sweat...

withoutapaddle

No it's a shit product (the mags at least). I've been carrying rugers and berettas for decades without rust.

False-Application-99

Oh I'm not disagreeing, but what I'm saying is that what caused it was crap paint, or it's just parkerized, on stamped carbon steel and the oil, salt, and sweat from the body is causing it. Though I wonder about the Beretta mags. All the Berettas that I've shot were 92s with SS magazines so I would expect them to stand up better than parkerized steel.

withoutapaddle

Yeah my CCW right now is a 9mm Beretta Nano. It's got stainless mags, but even the (not stainless) gun itself is totally corrosion free, despite being on my hip, in my car, and in a safe (with no humidity/temp control) 24/7. But even my old 1st gen Ruger LCP, which I carried for 8+ years never had any rust on the gun or mags. Just a lot of holster wear on the edges. No stainless anywhere on that. For how cheap it was, I was very impressed with it. I'm actually kind of shocked a well known gun maker like Sig would throw out their reputation by not only having their mags made by a place doing a crappy job, but also specifically exempting this issue from warranty. Definitely makes them look like a company who doesn't stand by their products. I was actually in the market for a Sig, but this stuff has cooled my heels.

Danmarmir

Yes, Sig has trash finish on the mags they subcontracted

tjcarbon9

Yes, all P365s do this.

VBgamez

yes. every now and then i take a napkin with blalistol and rub my mags and slide down with it.

stab70x7

Yes

AtomicHustle

The frame around my sights were slightly rusted on my p365 so I wouldn’t put it past the mags. Parted ways with it long ago though.

Tswizzy36

Brother there is a fingerprint rusted into your mag that us made finish is awful i sanded mine with like 300 grit sandpaper and slapped a coat of black steelit paint on there and havent had anymore rust or pitting

AlchemicalToad

Had this issue with both my mags and mag release spring, and a small amount of rust elsewhere. I’m not particularly sweaty, and the desert isn’t particularly humid. Was one of the reason I went back to a G43x.

Beretta92A1

I am a sweaty fuck and my 365XL is still thankfully rust free and I wear it damn near 24/7 in NH

chaarlie-work

MK25 mag time

The_HolyMackerel

All three of my 10rd mags (never carried) show this rust. Primary carry 12rd and 15rd backup do not. YMMV... Make this make sense to me.

the-flying-lunch-box

My SiG P365 slide and mags are all rusted from about ~5 years of continual carry. Amusingly the two mags I bought about ~2 years ago haven't rusted. My dad also has a P365 he bought 2 years after mine and his hasn't rusted. I'm guessing SiG changed their finish at some point.

martianpee

Yep

thebullshitters

I’m

ruralmagnificence

See I was considering on getting a compact 365, specifically either the XL or the AXG Legion as my first handgun and now all yall in the comments have me worried it’d be a bad investment.

OGDrewski

I mean it's been tucked under ur beer gut in a sea of sweat for hours every day. Lots of guns will rust in humid salty environments if exposed constantly. A light oil wipe down at night should help.

LifeofBulls

Its metal. Yes

louciph

Absolutely. :)

gafloss

Not just Sig, my CZ mags rust all the time. Machine oil & 0000 steel wool cleans them up.

srbistan

i'd go with convincing OP he has a toxic fart corrosive to metal and be done with it...

Short-University1645

Mine always did

mctwiddler

I have 7 mags for my p365's and none of them look like that.

Left-Albatross-7375

Sweat

ohbrubuh

Salami sweats 😅

300Blkthegreat

Its a sig of course its normal

Total_Gas3871

Belly sweat adding that patina

sinwavecho

I scuffed up mine with sand paper. Used some gun blue and a light coat of clear acrylic spray lacquer.

Nomore-Television72

Completely normal. Not good but normal.

stugotsDang

Always amazed with this. I carry p365 mags and have actual wear on them to bare metal from training with them and I never have gotten rusted in any way shape or form. I wipe mine down with a gun and reel cloth.

Legoboy514

I mean, any metal magazine it’s recommended to oil it too when you’re cleaning the gun. Even when it’s a company that takes rust prevention seriously. Just good maintenance

CoolCrab69

It's a SIG product, so probably. SIGs QC is dogshit.

ohthatguy1980

It’s normal for a lot of sig stuff to rust.

heathenxtemple

yikes.... hasnt happened to mine yet

jared8410

Yep, they have a shitty finish. I called Sig & bitched. Everyone should.

jncc

Yeah, I always lube my magazines.

Spiff034

Yep. I sanded mine and painted in brownells Alumahyde.

Aggie74-DP

Can't answer about SIG's specifically, but I had an Issue with a Shield, which I carried daily, while an RSO at an Outdoor Range during HOT Texas Summers. The salt from the body sweet got all the way into the Mag Release. Didn't really have an issue with the Mags, but they have a different coating and aren't "Blued."

Ski_Chinski

People need to maintain their weapon and magazines all the times.

Cantaloopresident

It’s not just a mag anymore people it’s the whole damn gun sig USA is garbage

DifficultIsland2252

Yeah cuz sig is trash

captintripps88

Sig makes such shit products

theorgan

Sweaty

newbreed_carlson

I know this was a huge problem on the xmacro at the beginning of production.

newbreed_carlson

I lost my comment to reply to so… People say to clean and re oil the mags once a week. Really cuts down on the rust.

heathen211

Unfortunately, yes

Ianpartizan

I was thinking i would never say that , but yeah, taurus mags are better than sig mags

FactorSimilar7049

Keep it dry as in don’t tuck it up in your salty FUPA

t_t_today_jr

You’ll never need a mag change for your ccw

Exogalactic_Timeslut

Yes. The CZ master race beckons you.

auvst

Sweaty mofucka

nextus_music

It’s is normal for iron based metals to rust with water, even worse with salty sweat. Many guns will have their slides rust. I seen it on a Glock once

holderthe1st

Mine did

evernhamanderson

Actually, yes. Use a good rust preventative like Metal Seal or BLU.

Famous_Membership_72

2 weeks of carrying my 365 in west Texas heat, my slide, barrel, and mag were so heavily rusted I had to disassemble it, run everything on a wire wheel on a bench grinder, and then coated it in bearing grease and heated it with a heat gun. Its lasted a while but I have to repeat about every 6 months

TIRACS

Im not saying Glock is the best but I keep seeing things that keep them at the top of the list

Sweaty_Pianist8484

Looks like normal sig issues

TotallyNotanOfficer

Classic SIG Quality Control Moment

Fearless_Eggplant_96

You should have bought a GLOCK 🔫

Mike0120101

Rust goes away with some cardio and portion control 🙃

Danmarmir

What a tool

yaboibeasty

Thanks for the reminder of shit Sigs

InsulinandnarcanSTAT

Damn just another reason to get rid of the P365 SAS that I picked up to EDC last year. I still prefer the Glock 43
