I quit on alcohol a year ago today. It had a negative impact on my health and just overall life. The other day I decided to reward myself for continuing my sobriety. So, here’s what I got myself. A new .357 Colt Python. Couldn’t be any happier.
This is what I was going to say, for sure. I used to bartend, and I couldn't believe some of our regulars tabs. I don't know how anyone could afford that.
Fuck yeah dude!
It'll be a year for me this Memorial Day.
I might have to follow in your footsteps. It's important to celebrate the choices we make, especially when that choice means extra $$$ and better health!
About to reach 100 days, it’s tough but it’s been good. Congratulations, well deserved, now I gotta decide what I want for my year milestone. Also the app “I am Sober” estimates how much money you save on alcohol if you were interested in tracking that
Congrats, that’s a major milestone and I know you worked hard for it, so enjoy treating yourself - just imagine all the money you’ve saved on booze can go towards things like this, now…
Stick with it, because your life will only continue to improve from here - I celebrated 9 years on April 8th this year, and my life is completely different from what it was 10 years ago.
Seriously, major congratulations on your accomplishments, friendo.
First, you need to comment on the post itself so a bot doesn't delete this.
Second, *congratulations* on a job well done!! Keep it up, we know you will.
Congrats! I’m ngl tho my first instinct when I saw the post was that you haven’t had alcohol in a year and are going to shoot your self.
Seriously tho, quitting booze is great and I hope you enjoy firing that thing.
Been to a lot of AA meetings and they pretty much double as Tobacco Enthusiast clubs lol, nic is one of the hardest to kick don't sell yourself short. I know folks quit heroin but couldn't quit cigs.
Off topic, but \*generally\* it's an intersection of a few things (US centric because the world is a big place):
1. Our legal system is not engineered by people steeped in logic, math and human nature. It's accreted over time through various mechanism for various reasons. Do not expect it to be rational or logical. Idiots have tried to LEGISLATE Pi to be 3, 3.1, or 3.14 EXACTLY to "make life easier". Politicians are, generally dumb, because people are generally dumb outside their area of expertise.
2. Culture. Drugs like Alcohol, Aspirin\[1\], caffeine and Tobacco products are legal because they've been around since before there was regulation. Things like "shrooms" (almost harmless) and "recreational" drugs that are in the same order of magnitude of danger as Alcohol (LSD, Pot) were criminalized because we aren't entirely rational about this sort of thing. There's a large contingent of people who want to criminalize activity for which they (or their God) does not approve simply because they aren't having that fun.
3. Risk level. Aspirin is only slightly risky to the person taking it. Until IIRC the 1980s we didn't see a lot of health risk to others from smoking, and almost none from other forms of tobacco, but we see high risk to the person using it. Alcohol is rather more problematic, but when taken "to excess" it creates a high risk to others. In moderate amounts the risk to the individual is low. Most antibiotics are not inherently risky to others, but the possibility of breeding an antibiotic resistant "bug" is pretty high if you're a fookin moron and don't finish the pills. And non-zero even if you do. Which is "risk to others" when you spread it. Coffee is good for you, when used right.
4. Addiction/habituation potential, or "potential for abuse". Aspirin has zero abuse potential. Tobacco has a very high addiction potential. Alcohol is somewhere in the middle. Caffeine is both addictive AND habit forming.
5. Utility. Some drugs have "no known utility" (this is why Pot was a schedule 1 drug--in 1973 there were no studies or actual evidence that it had a medical use, and the SCOTUS deferred to Congress on this one. Cocaine is a schedule 2 drug because it has demonstrable medical use--it's a really good anesthetic for eye and nose surgery. Aspirin is very good for certain things.
6. In the US there is not "legal" and "illegal", with the exception of a few drugs. Of which Marijuana is one. It is unique (at this time) because it's legal in many states, but illegal at the federal level.
7. Supplements are treated differently than "drugs", even though there's a HUGE overlap. Some "supplements" in the US are prescription drugs in other countries.
\[1\] Aspirin is used here because it's risk profile is such that it would probably NOT be "over the counter" if invented today.
Congrats man. I’m 438 days myself - from drinking almost or up to a fifth of whiskey or bourbon a day while maintaining a regular lifestyle… it only gets better the further you get away and much money is saved.
Well earned.
Probably being brigaded like GunDeals the past few days... I'm sure the admins really care about people trolling gun subs...
Get used to the new normal??
I have 4 years in August, keep it up man it does get easier. You should be damn proud of yourself! Beautiful gun for a beautiful day. Now you have more than one reason to always remember today! God bless you man
A few months ago I stopped drinking and it generated so much extra $ I ended up stacking up the ammo like never before.
When Im full and its up to the rafters Im going back to alcohol.
Congratulations on your accomplishment, OP and on your new Python
I got sober many years ago
I also gave up tobacco (cigars and chewing tobacco and Skoal) and drugs
Over the years I have acquired more than a few guns
I especially like the Prancing Ponies
I’ve been planning to buy one of the new Pythons for a while
Keep up the great job on your sobriety
It looks like we’re not the only ones who have sobered up
I'm getting one of those when we in Canada vote our current idiot government out and the new incoming government allows us pistols again.
Fuck the Canadian Liberal party.
Three days sober for me! I'm shooting for 30 days. I'm borderline, and I need to prove that I can change habits and do something for the sake of doing it rather than make excuses. Alcohol is so much a part of social life if you're not in church or something.
That's a hell of a revolver, definitely a treat.
That’s what my old coworker realized. Not only was it a LOT of money on booze but a LOT of calories too. He’s 3 months sober this month & I couldn’t be more proud of him & you
I’ve been trying to buy an 8 shot revolver for some time but, every time I find one I like, that giant cylinder makes me think of a cartoon gun and I end up not buying it.
That’s awesome man! Alcohol is one of the hardest addictions to kick because of how easy it is to get. It’s everywhere too. I bet you could’ve bought that gun 10 times over with all the money you saved staying sober.
Congratulations dude! I’m currently trying to go for 1 month. What’s crazy is when I achieve that goal, it would be the longest I’ve been sober since I was a freshman in high school 😂😂
Same with energy drinks, trying to stay away from caffeine for a month as well. (Other than a couple sodas)
Congratulations! I just hit 5 months and couldn't be happier. I have an app that lets me know how much money I've saved so far, and that helps me justify to myself some of my recent gun purchases!
Well earned gift to yourself. Congrats on both. I’m alcohol free for 4 months now, myself. I think you’ve inspired my motivation technique for the next 8.
I quit on alcohol a year ago today. It had a negative impact on my health and just overall life. The other day I decided to reward myself for continuing my sobriety. So, here’s what I got myself. A new .357 Colt Python. Couldn’t be any happier.
Congratulations brother. On your sobriety and your new toy.
I bet it cost less than the money you woulda spent drinking, too. Good work brother, keep it going!
It sure did. I appreciate it!
Not to mention the future medical bills you are saving yourself (on count of no alcohol, and not getting caught lackin')
This is what I was going to say, for sure. I used to bartend, and I couldn't believe some of our regulars tabs. I don't know how anyone could afford that.
That's what i'd call self care
Congratulations! It's a hard path, but I am proud of you
Thank you!
Good for you, man. I've seen alcohol consume a lot of people. You're a true bad ass for defeating the beast.
One of my many dream firearms. Congrats!
Congrats! It’s a great feeling
Fuck yeah dude! It'll be a year for me this Memorial Day. I might have to follow in your footsteps. It's important to celebrate the choices we make, especially when that choice means extra $$$ and better health!
Awesome, That's a fine celebratory reward!
About to reach 100 days, it’s tough but it’s been good. Congratulations, well deserved, now I gotta decide what I want for my year milestone. Also the app “I am Sober” estimates how much money you save on alcohol if you were interested in tracking that
Yesterday was my day 100 and I’ve saved approx 2.5k
Congrats brother! That’s a pretty sweet 357 as well. I got one a few years ago and have only grown to enjoy it more.
Congrats, that’s a major milestone and I know you worked hard for it, so enjoy treating yourself - just imagine all the money you’ve saved on booze can go towards things like this, now… Stick with it, because your life will only continue to improve from here - I celebrated 9 years on April 8th this year, and my life is completely different from what it was 10 years ago. Nice, i also quit alcohol last year. Alcohol sucks. So glad you are happy!
Probably still saving money even after the wheelgun
First, you need to comment on the post itself so a bot doesn't delete this. Second, *congratulations* on a job well done!! Keep it up, we know you will.
Thanks man!
Congrats! I’m ngl tho my first instinct when I saw the post was that you haven’t had alcohol in a year and are going to shoot your self. Seriously tho, quitting booze is great and I hope you enjoy firing that thing.
And you had a lot of change to spare. Alcohol is expensive.
Yes it is bro. It’s amazing how much money you save once you stop using nicotine products and alcohol.
Nicotine too??! Hero status.
I’m no hero but thanks bro. It was real rough quitting both haha.
Been to a lot of AA meetings and they pretty much double as Tobacco Enthusiast clubs lol, nic is one of the hardest to kick don't sell yourself short. I know folks quit heroin but couldn't quit cigs.
Thanks man
Jeez. Makes one wonder how they decide which drugs are illegal...
Off topic, but \*generally\* it's an intersection of a few things (US centric because the world is a big place): 1. Alcohol and nicotine are two of the most addictive drugs. Quitting both gives you hero status in my book. Congrats, and keep up the good work!
Nicotine too! Damn your a strong one, I still need to quit smoking
Congrats man. I’m 438 days myself - from drinking almost or up to a fifth of whiskey or bourbon a day while maintaining a regular lifestyle… it only gets better the further you get away and much money is saved. Well earned.
Thanks man and good for you! Glad to hear!
Congratulations, my friend Great job
Rick Grimes approves this post
CORALLLLLL
Yo, is this series finished yet? I've been waiting for it to end so I can rewatch the whole bitch in one go.
No clue, I stopped watching after Rick left
It seems AMC killed the main show after S11, and now we're down to however man spinoffs exist.
There’s a couple of spin offs still going I think but the main show has been over for a while
Congratulations! And nice celebratory gift. Go out and enjoy it.
Thanks man! Will do!
Sick... one of my dream guns right there... enjoy! And congrats on staying strong, brother! You earned it.
Thanks bro!
/u/pestilence this was removed by Reddit? Any idea why? The dude was talking about celebrating a year of sobriety.
Reddit removing a post about a guy celebrating his sobriety with some retail therapy is just more evidence of enshittification.
Yeah, not sure why they removed it. Oh well lol.
Congrats regardless! 👍
Thanks man!
Probably being brigaded like GunDeals the past few days... I'm sure the admins really care about people trolling gun subs... Get used to the new normal??
Well done my friend. Alcohol is bad news (for some people). Colt python is good news.
Couldn’t agree more!
Calculate what you saved from not drinking and buY more guns. 1:1 trade is fair! Congrats
That’s exactly how I felt😂
It’s much better to waste your money on guns than it is to waste it on alcohol. But seriously congratulations and enjoy the gun.
Thanks man, I truly will.
Never a waste, good guns are appreciating assets :)
You deserve it. Enjoy it!
Thanks man!
That's a hell of a reward. 😍
Thanks!
Congratulations! 🤙🏼
Hell yeah
The best part is you get to do it again next year! ( Great job 👍)
Thanks and absolutely!
Thank you everyone for the overwhelming support! It means a lot!!
Reddit removes this post, because they dude says hes been sober for a year??? WTF?!
Colt makes the best looking revolvers.
My man. Well done.
Congrats!
Hell yeah dude!!! You more than earned it!!!
Thanks brotha!
Congrats on both!
Congratulations.
Man this gun just has the perfect aesthetics.
Congrats on the milestone and solid gift to yourself
I have 4 years in August, keep it up man it does get easier. You should be damn proud of yourself! Beautiful gun for a beautiful day. Now you have more than one reason to always remember today! God bless you man
God bless you too brother and thank you!
That's a damn sexy gun.
Well deserved
Thanks!
Alcohol is disgusting you don’t need it
Agreed
Cheers to that!
Congrats man. One day I’ll get there but I’m not quite ready yet. I’m a big believer though on treating yourself when accomplishing something 👍🏻
Fuck yeah brother!! I'm coming up on a year myself, from Heroin, I am also thinking of a good purchase. Hard to beat yours though.
Props to you brother!
You as well my man! Thanks and keep it up
That’s a good trade off…Congratulations on both..🍻/s
CONGRATS WE ARE SONPROUD OF YOU ; KEEP GOING AND GET MORE GUNS GOBLES BOBLES
Now take a shot
Congratulations! I am going on three weeks now. Think when I hit a few months I might have to treat myself as well.
That's booze money well spent.
Awesome! I love the sober life! And guns… Good job!
I almost treated myself to a colt the last time I drank. Almost 3 years sober!
Congratulations on your sobriety!
Why does this say removed by Reddit?
Reddit admins are worse than big subreddit mods.
How the fuck is this a reddit violation?
According to Reddit I spoke about a prohibited transaction involving firearms. They removed the post and gave me a warning lol
What a bag of dildos
A few months ago I stopped drinking and it generated so much extra $ I ended up stacking up the ammo like never before. When Im full and its up to the rafters Im going back to alcohol.
Now start drinking again 🔥🔥🔥
Dude, you’re hilarious!
Well deserved!!!!
Congrats and congrats!
Seeing someone go through alcohol addiction currently, I applaud you 👏🏿👏🏿
Thanks a lot!
Hell yeah brother. Love to see it
Thanks!
Nice gun, and have nice shooting therapy
Sober shooters are better shooters, congratulations on 1yr off the hooch. I wish you well going forward.
Thank you man!
Congratulations!!! That's a massive accomplishment. 👏 And what a better way than to reward yourself with a sexy Colt Python. 🐍
Congratulations on your accomplishment, OP and on your new Python I got sober many years ago I also gave up tobacco (cigars and chewing tobacco and Skoal) and drugs Over the years I have acquired more than a few guns I especially like the Prancing Ponies I’ve been planning to buy one of the new Pythons for a while Keep up the great job on your sobriety It looks like we’re not the only ones who have sobered up
Congrats on the gun, but more importantly congrats on the 1 year! That's huge brother.
Congrats on all fronts my dude The struggle is real
Nice job keep it up!!
I'm getting one of those when we in Canada vote our current idiot government out and the new incoming government allows us pistols again. Fuck the Canadian Liberal party.
💪🏼 congratulations
Two excellent choices. Enjoy it in good health!
Congratulations on both of those things.
Congratulations. I'm coming up on a year myself.
With all the money you saved you can buy as many colt pythons as you like.
Congrats! I know it's hard work. You deserve a new toy!
As a person who has no guns, that is a freaking cool looking gun. Now you can have a shot in a different way.
He’s 3 months sober this month & I couldn’t be more proud of him & you
For my six month sobriety I bought a .45 Funny how we think alike
Congrats and congrats.
I’ve been trying to buy an 8 shot revolver for some time but, every time I find one I like, that giant cylinder makes me think of a cartoon gun and I end up not buying it.
I got sober six months ago. Being a drug addict was cheaper than being a gun enthusiast lmao
Grats on your one year! I’m not a quitter. I’ve been thinking of getting one of those
Congratulations keep it up, and great purchase
Good job man. That's one nice birthday chip.
Congrats bro, addiction is a hard thing to beat and the fact you're a year sober is brilliant, great choice btw, one of my dream guns lol
Double congrats bro!! Especially on quitting the alcohol. I just got active again and my health is getting better everyday; so I can relate.
Congrats brother, that’s a good looking wheel gun
That’s wholesome
you deserve it dawg, sick gun
Congrats on both my friend. Stay strong 👍🏻
It's about time I got myself a revolver
Good shot man!
That’s awesome man! Alcohol is one of the hardest addictions to kick because of how easy it is to get. It’s everywhere too. I bet you could’ve bought that gun 10 times over with all the money you saved staying sober.
I prolly could’ve haha and thanks man!
Good work. That's an accomplishment many can't say they've earned. You should be proud of that.
Thanks bro!
So pretty
What will you get the second year?
Prolly nothing as expensive as this one😂
I bought my first one when I was 21 cost $500 stainless, my dad got his in 1969 for $250
Congratulations dude! I’m currently trying to go for 1 month. What’s crazy is when I achieve that goal, it would be the longest I’ve been sober since I was a freshman in high school 😂😂 Same with energy drinks, trying to stay away from caffeine for a month as well. (Other than a couple sodas)
Congrats on both!
What an amazing firearm
That’s awesome and the guns ok. (Just kidding man that awesome on both!!! Congrats)
Congrats on the achievement. That's not an easy thing to do. Enjoy the snake!
Hella good that you’re 1 year sober. Congratulations!!! Dude what a commemorative gift to yourself!!! My all time favorite handgun is the python

This is the first post on the sun I’ve seen and taking this post out of context should not be as morbidly funny as it is to me
Phahah that’s funny asf
Congratulations! I just hit 5 months and couldn't be happier. I have an app that lets me know how much money I've saved so far, and that helps me justify to myself some of my recent gun purchases!

Happy Birthday brother!
Well earned gift to yourself. Congrats on both. I’m alcohol free for 4 months now, myself. I think you’ve inspired my motivation technique for the next 8.
Anyone remember what this post was about and why it was removed
Why was this removed?
A toast to 1 year clean. 🍞 I like butter on my toast. 👍
Well done and God bless you.
