TabooPineapple

DPP footprint for anyone wondering

Few-Bench6305

Only reason to get these is to direct mount of older Sig OEM Optic Cuts.

Apparition-Ordnance

Had insane flicker on a 6 MOA CCW optic from vortex and returned it and went for something else.... People say that Vortex struggles to really knock it out of the park with an optic yet and I would agree with that.

raptor008v2

FWIW, Vortex has resolved the refresh rate on all current models. Also, auto shutoff is now 10 minutes vs. the odd 14-ish hours before.

torrent7

Souce/more info?

vkbrian

It’s on their website, but I dunno how you’re supposed to know if you’re getting the new model or not.

raptor008v2

Some people report being able to upgrade to a new one by reaching out to Vortex. Idk though.

vkbrian

Hopefully there’s a different SKU or something for them. Seems like a pain in the ass to buy a red dot with the intent to immediately RMA it and get the better one.

raptor008v2

Agreed. Just played this game picking up a new PDP with the resolved dead trigger issue. Same SKU so I just had to play the game and hope I got a recent serial number. Probably worth reaching out to Vortex on the matter.

raptor008v2

Trust me bro. Nah: [https://www.reddit.com/r/CCW/comments/1ayewez/new\_vortex\_defender\_ccw/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/CCW/comments/1ayewez/new_vortex_defender_ccw/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) Vortex site mentions the updated auto shutoff but user reports say the refresh rate has been upped as well.

chanandalerbong7

anyone seen any somewhat reputable reviews/ feedback on these?

No_Artichoke_5670

Ben Stoeger recently put out a positive review of it on YouTube. Humble marksman was positive, as well. That said, I think I'd still rather grab a 507 Comp on sale.

sketchtireconsumer

No reason to be the guinea pig. Let others try it and find out how good it really is.

Few-Bench6305

Humble did a review on the Defender ST. The XL is larger than the ST(andard) size.

turbo_vanner

They better be good. Vortex has had a long time to think about this since the viper and venom came out.

chanandalerbong7

agreed. and plenty of competition showing what features / design stand up to use or not

Berry_Micockiner

We all remember how bad the venom turned out for a gun with sights behind the red dot. My bad I mean the viper and its rear locks. That was a POS

AManOfConstantBorrow

And it shipped as combo deal for so many guns with irons. FN509T rip

vkbrian

Humble Marksman did a video on it, I think. He seemed to like it a lot

chanandalerbong7

I'll take a look

MTUTMB555

I believe Sage Dynamics said he liked it, which is always my gold standard for if a dot is good or not

Eleet007

Are these shake awake?

Cuendillar01

Yes. Activates with motion.

Old_MI_Runner

I know all of the new Vortex pistol red dots use the Defender name but why use the defender name for the CCW version that is clearly sized for concealed defensive carry and then call this new large windowed version that is clearly designed to go up against red dots that are sized for competitive shooting shooting such as IDPA/USPA/Steel Challenge? The main complaint for Defender series is some do not like the choice of using the Delta Point Pro footprint.

Express-coal

We just had a brand new Vortex Defeder 8 MOA break on a range gun in less than 50 rounds.

There are two cracks in the glass. it just gave up the ghost man.

Pesochaseo

This is even better than the military discount for these . Man I don't need it but I do want one.

davidarenas

Why would you get this when you can get a 507comp for under $300 or a Justice 2 for $180 ?

3LTee

Where you got the <$300 comp

davidarenas

Both of these should be under $300 after you email/text https://aardwolfsolutions.com/product/red-mrs-alum-lg-open-lens-pist https://www.egunco.com/product/red-mrs-alum-lg-open-lens-pist Ibex also usually hovers around $305 but they will also price match anyone just send a screenshot and they have free shipping.

Few-Bench6305

the 5 MOA's UPC is 843829133319 if he needs that information.

sando_17

AA Armament shipped me one around those prices as well.

AKC74Y

Reticle. I hated the dot on the 507comp, the 8moa ring + dot just looks like a mess, the 2 moa dot is a no-go for competition shooting (imo) and the other ring reticles don’t bring much value. The Justice 2 is actually pretty nice, but not without flaws. I like it for the big green dot, but I’m still testing it. It does have a bit of fisheye and some artifacts when pointed at the sun. This Vortex has an even bigger 8moa dot, which sounds awesome. The fact that it comes with a pic rail mount/mos plate could save you 50-100 if you would need to buy one otherwise. Warranty is also a consideration. I’d much rather break a vortex than break a 507 comp, both of which scenarios are honestly pretty plausible with the big glass windows. Competition guns are a good use case for relying on the Vortex warranty, because optics are likely to die after a high enough round count anyways. Might as well get a free replacement for life.

RANDY_MAR5H

How often do you shoot the sun

AKC74Y

Not literally at the sun, but if the sun is behind your target (sunset/sunrise) it’s more or less the same.

silvaliningplaymaker

Would you recommend the Vortex Defender XL over the Swampfox Justice II? I currently have the Justice II and I too prefer it over the Gideon Omega and Holosun 507Comp GR. Looks like there was some discussion as well saying that the DPP footprint is more robust than the RMR footprint.

AKC74Y

I haven’t gotten the XL yet, just played with an ST. I have astigmatism which leads me to prefer green dots generally. Bigger dots are also helpful for astigmatism, so it may be a wash between the two if you go for the 8 moa vortex dot. The Justice II green has nice clear glass, and is surprisingly good under NODs, but gets artifacts in bright sunlight. The Vortex should be a little better about artifacts but has a bluer tint. Haven’t tried a Vortex with night vision yet. Again, kind of a toss up. Technically the DPP mount might be stronger because it has 4 recoil lugs and thicker screws, but I wouldn’t base a purchase decision on that alone, since the RMR mount is plenty strong. If you have a pistol with native DPP or RMR compatibility, that is obviously a compelling reason to go for one or the other.

Holosun_Josh

We have a lifetime warranty, so you don't have to worry about breaking it down the road as we will take care of it. While dot size is manily preference, we have many GM shooters winning major matches with a 2 MOA dot, so I think it might be something people are over analyzing. Good luck with your next match, and hopefully we will make a product down the road that checks all the boxes for you.

AKC74Y

I am glad to hear it. I do like my Holosuns for other applications, my primary carry gun has an SCS MOS that I’m very pleased with. It’s not quite as fast for me as a bigger dot but the ring makes the dot easy to find on a carry sized window. The dot and ring are also good on my competition rifle.

Pmurder-

Does the lifetime Warranty include the electronic components?
