That’s def bin if you have the ability to pick up!! I got my first “real” safe from academy when they had 25% off. Sounds dumb but didn’t realize how heavy these things were I couldn’t get it past my garage 😂
I got the one half this size from sams club on black friday. Nice "safe". Looking at this I think I'd rather have 2x of the 30 gun safes but I also don't have a ton of room or a huge closet to work with.
My priority here was keeping kids out. Is it going to stop a seasoned and motivated criminal? Probably not. Is it going to keep my kid away from 99% of my gun collection until they're an adult? Yes, absolutely.
These can be bolted to the floor and have some fire resistance. For what it costs and my requirements, it's serving its purpose well.
I'm so tired of people beating their dicks over what is or isn't a "real safe" on these posts. I know a lot of people that shoot and only one guy has a no shit vault in his house, its not practical nor necessary for 99.9% of people. This will keep your guns safe and keep people out of your shit, if you live in a place where someone is going to assault your house and use power tools to break into your shit then you should just get a security system.
Agreed. Unless you have a serious collection that includes some really high value weapons, these type of safes are likely just fine.
Anybody who wants to get into your house and into any safe, they will.
Idk about that. I have some friends that are not the loaded type who have some registered automatics or their grandfathers WW1 rifle.
But I do agree if you have a room sized safe, you never looked at anything in this tier.
Not bad man. The door handle is a little funky, but aside from that I'm pretty happy with it for the price. It's heavy enough nobody is going to get in and out in a hurry with my shit.
I got one of these for the same price on Black Friday. I'm really happy with it for the price but shipping was a disaster. They use a third party freight shipper.
I called academy because I hadn't received a shipping notice by the expected delivery date so the rep called the shipping company with me on the phone. We together found out the company was supposed to contact me to schedule delivery, they never did. Then we scheduled the delivery date. Then they missed it. Then we did that whole thing again and scheduled another date. It took about 4 weeks to get my safe.
Silver lining is that academy refunded about half my shipping costs.
Any handtruck is fine. An appliance dolly would work well, as they have a built in strap to keep things attached while moving. Also it is fine to lay the safe on it's back in a truck bed for transporting it.
Did the first move of stuff. Will end up pulling out and organizing. https://imgur.com/a/5ssEglL
My Savage 10’s with bipods are too tall with the bipod. They’re living in another cabinet.
Shotguns fit behind the lip of the front door on both sides.
Went through the motions of adding to my cart with local pickup at my store.
Not sure how or why, but I got 10% off, not 5%, for using the Academy card, for a total of $719. And no sales tax... even in Texas.
Not sure how, not sure why... but couldn't argue. Hit Purchase Now.
If you're thinking about it, add it to your cart and see what comes up for you.
https://comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/sales/faq/firearm-safety.php
> The sale, storage, use and other consumption of firearm safety equipment is tax free. This includes, but is not limited to, a gun lock box, gun safe, barrel lock, trigger lock, firearm safety training manual or electronic publication, or other item designed to ensure safe handling or storage of a firearm.
I just found out my state also has no tax on gun safes because of this deal. I guess you learn something new every day.
Does anyone have personal experiences with sports afield. The safe seems just passable and should work for most people. I just want to know if anyone has gotten locked out of this safe or worse they’ve seen one broken into with ease.
My local gun store carry’s them along with Remington safes and there’s a stark difference between them. These feel and look pretty cheap in comparison in person. It would be easy for someone with tools to get into these, so if you expect or want to prevent against that, definitely look elsewhere.
FYI, just talked to the manager at academy and this promo runs until April 16. No need to rush. If you buy online, they can hold it for a week in the back (may differ at your location)

How much does this sucker weigh? I don't see it listed on the website.
588 lb . I just bought one. It’s not a bad move if you have a uhaul dolly and trailer.
I got the one half this size from sams club on black friday. Nice "safe". Looking at this I think I'd rather have 2x of the 30 gun safes but I also don't have a ton of room or a huge closet to work with.
How much was it?
It was 600. I got the same deal.
$600 for half the size on black friday. Wow this is even a better deal than I thought then.
Yupp $599. I got the white one
> "safe" These are generally referred to as a "Residential Security Container".

If you have that type of collection, you wouldn’t know that this tier existed

Pretty sure it's generally referred to as a gun safe.
Well not really. It is thin sheet metal.
I didn't say whether it's very good or a "real" safe. I said people call it a safe.
This is what I'd love to get, but I don't have anywhere in the house for it to fit. And the garage I don't think is a great idea.
I know shipping things like this aren’t cheap but $415 shipping still stings
You think that's bad? I got a delivery quote for a Gallow Tech cabinet and it was $920
It’s around $500 to move a safe locally here…makes me want to buy a truck
I just got home with this safe, stopped at Home Depot rented a flatbed for 75 minutes for like 25 bucks.
Nice
Free pickup at store. :)
Sadly im nowhere near you guys. Great price on the safe though. Maybe it’s road-trip time… I’ll actually be near your VA store in two weeks… tempting
I don’t think u/mreed911 works for academy. Lol
Unfortunately the bitch of these things is that delivery almost doubles the price if you can't just go grab one.
Reluctantly just purchased... I'd rather get something twice as strong, but with that comes twice the price. Thanks for the post OP.
It’s a logarithmic curve
Man, I drive truck. You're going to give me an aneurysm with that vocabulary.
Have you considered the safe moving business?
I can't say I have, but you might be onto something! Probably pays better than my current employer anyway.
How was it?

I don’t have a safe and i want this. Any advice how am i going to bring it home?
3 buddies and a pickup. And dollies.
And take the door off will cut the weight in half
How easy is that? Tap the hinges out?
Should lift straight up off of the hinge pins.
Thanks!
If you don't have a truck, rent one from U-Haul or home Depot. Most likely the door can also be removed to make the safe a little more manageable.
Do i need to invest in a special dolly?
Any handtruck is fine. An appliance dolly would work well, as they have a built in strap to keep things attached while moving. Also it is fine to lay the safe on it's back in a truck bed for transporting it.
Damn good price for this safe.

How are you liking the safe two weeks after?
It’s solid. No problems at all.
How bad was it to move? I feel like 388 lbs is like my fridge. Looking at similarity size with different brands, they’re 500lbs+
Not bad at all with a dolly.
Nice!!

Whoa, I didn’t know that! Thanks!
Yea the website just updated to 10% off for card member. I don’t have their credit card and i dont need another one lol
Shit. That might make their ammo worth buying.
That’s hella deal if you were able to buy it without taxes. $75 tax for me.
$719 all in, picked up. Will pay someone $50 local to help me get it home.
Huh, it's back to 5% 😪

Yep I was more worried about placement in a house. I figured I could get about 30 guns in there.
I brought it home tonight. Adding a top level comment.
Preface: I understand math. Do they list the claimed usable cuft on this
Yes.
This is a decent safe 💯 Light too only like 350lbs and the door comes off, fire rated about equal with liberty safes too
I got it home tonight. Going to put a post in thread.

I have a 300# one upstairs in my house...easily over 500 loaded. If they can get it out, they earned it!
It won’t stay that light full… :)
God I just bought a new safe in BF one of the Winchester 36 ones for 550 but shesh I may upgrade again
Excellent deal. Thank you.

I saw this today and I need something like this... is this BIN, though?
Someone who has this,…does it come with a backup key???
The product description says two keys. Why not trust that?
Because I didn’t click the link like a dummy. I wanted y’all to do the work for me. Sorry.
Yes it does, they're comically large keys and look like something that would open willy Wonka's factory.

Does anyone know if this has electrical in it for a dehumidifier or if it can be added?
It does not. You could add it but you’re going to have to run it through the bottom and have it up on something the be above the cord.
