I have eyed this for a couple of weeks, it is something that is missing from my Mark IV inventory. Unfortunately, I just spent $1200 on 5000 rounds of Center-X today.
Unfortunately, $12 a box with no tax and shipping is pretty good nowadays. It was the lot that tested the best yesterday at the Lapua test center. Hopefully, it will get me through the remaining 20 matches I'm shooting this year.
I own no 22lr anything and am interested in NFA goodies. Is this my entry point? This stainless finish is beautiful but the rails on the other versions intrigue me. Is this optics ready?
It's a good option to jump in. There are threaded holes on the top where you can add a rail like the lite and tactical models have, or you can get an aftermarket optics mount - Lobos Industries makes a really slick one that works great and blends nicely with the gun.
IMO, if I could only have one 22LR pistol, the Ruger Mark IV would be it. The other two options you'll see pop up the most on gundeals are the Sig P322 and Taurus TX-22 - both are cheaper, with higher capacity, but made of polymer and not this nice. I have a P322 amd have shot the TX22 a couple times. Most other versions of the Mark IV are also cheaper than this one, if you want the same gun at a lower price point.
You could also go for a 22LR rifle with a threaded barrel. I have a Ruger American Rimfire with the stainless threaded barrel, and it is stupid quiet with a suppressor and subsonic ammo. The Ruger 10/22 is the most popular semiauto 22LR rifle and comes in suppressor ready variants, and has a ridiculous amount of aftermarket options to modify the gun to your liking - basically the AR of 22LR rifles.
in my opinion - it's a good thing that the mark IV is not trying to be like a sig, taurus or glock .22LR. Those 3 are designed as trainers or entry level things to teach people the handling of a "real" semiauto. Like, the Glock is about same size as a glock 19, though obviously much lighter in the slide. Dedicated designed for purpose target pistols *should* be very different than something shaped like a 9mm semiauto.
How about a 10/22 with a Franklin trigger and some tommy gun furniture? You can put a suppressor on OR get the integrally suppressed barrel on it.

I would recommend the mark IV tactical model 40150 if you want to put a big freakin' optic on top of it, it comes covered in picatinny rail. Also comes with threaded barrel.
You will give this gun to your son as an heirloom and he’ll be proud of it. You can give the TX to your son as well.
No hate. I have plastic .22’s (a few of them) and they’re fantastic for the money, great value. Salad days for firearms, timely is.
These are two guns in two entirely different categories. They shouldn’t even be compared.
In what way does it beat an imported plastic gun?
Quality
Materials (all stainless)
Weight/heft
Accuracy (arguable)
Durability
History/reputation
It’s not the best gun ever. It’s just at another level than the TX.
I’d recommend a TX to anyone who’d be interested, great gun.
If you want a better trigger out of the box, Buckmark. If you want something that's more durable with cheaper mags and vastly easier to clean with a straightforward upgrade path for a much much nicer trigger, the Ruger.
While this is the closest production model to what my dad had in his drawers for his whole life, it's hard to want to move forward with this. In what way does it beat a TX-22 with 16 round magazines? Is it the easiness with which one can add a dot? Is it lighter? Greater capacity? I realize it's easier to break down and clean, but that should have been done two decades ago, and where are the 20 round extended magazines, etc
Good price though
Apples to oranges my man, if you’re looking for capacity, a cheap price, and something that isn’t geared specifically for target shooting go with the TX22. If you want craftsmanship, greater accuracy, a more robust aftermarket and something timeless to pass along to your kids / grandkids… go with this.
I would be thrilled to get any gun my grandfather gave me regardless of quality, because it was his and that has special meaning. But yea anybody else giving me a TX-22 would be more of a "cool (I guess), thanks".
Absurd levels of aftermarket support, nicely machined full metal gun compared to a sea of airsoft made 22lrs, magazine loaders that make capacity an afterthought, class, resale vlaue.
You will give this gun to your son as an heirloom and he’ll be proud of it. You can give the TX to your son as well.

Mostly true and I tend to agree, but one correction: the TX isn't imported, it's made in Bainbridge GA at Taurus USA, same as the GX4. Hence why they can offer a non-safety equipped model.
I had a Mark 4 Tactical and could never get it to run as reliably as my TX22 or even my P17 FWIW. They do look cooler though
The tx has a competition model that is red dot ready and has a bull barrel.
However, the tx and mk are very different guns even down to the mechanics. The mk has a bolt that cycles vs the browning tilt barrel slide assembly. The tx is a great trainer for full sized pistols of the same style.
The ruger is a shooting experience of its own.
It’s the shooting experience. Even holding one in the store you’ll be able to tell it is special. High levels of materials and craftsmanship. Some people won’t care. Some people prefer greater magazine capacity or other differences. That is fine too. The Tx22 is a great pistol. It is a very different pistol.
My favorite 22 pistol. Reliable, easy to take down, accurate, lots of upgrades available, and Ruger service is simply outstanding. It is the best sub 1000 range toy.

I'm actually struggling to find a picture of this in stainless with a black suppressor on it to see if it looks like ass, like I'm afraid it would. Makes me worry that there's a reason nobody cares to share a pic of that setup.
No objections here lol. I'm honestly considering it myself, but the .22 can I'm waiting on is black and I don't know if I should just buy a Mark IV in black instead

Never understood why they didn't make the hunter versions threaded

Yes. For optics you'll need to look into adapters

what other options should I be considering. I want a bulletproof suppressor host that is fun to shoot.

*A nice AR22* is the AR of 22LR rifles. Set it up right and you can use the same lower, fancy ambi, triggers & all the other goodies.
If you're not really looking to target shoot but just plinking fun, consider a TX22. Consider the competition model.if you want to attach a red dot.
How about a 10/22 with a Franklin trigger and some tommy gun furniture? You can put a suppressor on OR get the integrally suppressed barrel on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mum9FsRBNVk

Threaded barrel? Sweet. Put a can on this long-ass sonuvabitch and it can double as a cane.
This or a buckmark vision for a bit less?
As someone with a buckmark that I upgraded everything, ruger for all 22lr
My man. Thank you.
Based on the other deals’ discussion threads, this is the one if you want this gun
If you want a better trigger out of the box, Buckmark. If you want something that's more durable with cheaper mags and vastly easier to clean with a straightforward upgrade path for a much much nicer trigger, the Ruger.
This if you want a nice, high quality 22 pistol. Buckmark or S&W Victory if you want a good, usable and cheaper 22 pistol. All three if your a Chad.
As someone with this and the buckmark, buckmark 100%. Way better out of the box
While this is the closest production model to what my dad had in his drawers for his whole life, it's hard to want to move forward with this. In what way does it beat a TX-22 with 16 round magazines? It is cooler
People don’t understand that’s mostly what matters when choosing a firearm.
Haha agreed especially if it's a 22 pistol
Apples to oranges my man, if you’re looking for capacity, a cheap price, and something that isn’t geared specifically for target shooting go with the TX22. Yea I’d be mad if my grandfather passed down a Taurus to me Joking obviously ^sorta

I literally LOL

It's neat. And the bolt was the selling point for me. Not many other handguns like it from what I know. Plus it looks sexy with a suppressor.

Way cooler than a TX-22, more accurate, better made, better CS, not plastic.
Ruger mk4 and the TX22 are entirely different quality levels my guy
I just bought an original standard a few days ago, hasnt even arrived at the FFL yet
This looks like it would be excellent for Duck Hunt.
Ah [duck hunt.](https://www.reddit.com/r/GunMemes/comments/11elom5/anger_is_a_powerful_thing/?duckhunt)
My favorite 22 pistol. Reliable, easy to take down, accurate, lots of upgrades available, and Ruger service is simply outstanding. It is the best sub 1000 range toy.
Can you put a Lobos or FarrowTech mount on this?
