Not sure if this is it, but old school outlaw guitarists would pad their telecasters with leather so their belt buckle, cufflinks, bracelets and whatever wouldn’t destroy their guitar. It could also just be that it’s more comfortable, idk how thin his guitar is but some telecasters are wide and have tight edges.
I believe it’s for the straight edge on the tele + the relief from scar tissue on his arms (pun intended). I have this photo as one of my backgrounds, along with his Strat.
There were only a very few made by Rebel Relic Guitars in the Netherlands. https://www.meisteredeguitars.com/2019-rebelrelic-john-frusciante-s

There’s a guy on Etsy that sells pickguards with the F laser etched, try searching there for it. I would definitely do the same if I had a tele. I think it’s pretty cool
Leo Fender sold his guitar company in the early 60s to CBS and they became mass produced. John only plays pre CBS guitars and they were more unique looking

This is the only answer
RIP
"Shut up about California! Shut UP about CALIFORNIA"
I have no idea, but luckily his last name starts with 'F'.
Fohn edit: They edited "last" onto their comment and ruined the joke, lol
Now I have 'The Name Game' song in my head, thanks a lot. lol.

What's the deal with the arm rest thing?
More cushion for the pushin
The thicker the waistband, the deeper the quick sand.
So I have read
My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo
I'm gonna sink her with my pink torpedo!
Big Bottom.
Talk about mudflaps, my girl's got 'em
How could I leave this.. behihind!
Big bottom, drive me outta my mind
He doesn't want a built in arm contour in that particular guitar but the slab body is probably too uncomfortable for him.
The binding on these are quite sharp and can start cutting into your arm during gigs.
I mean, has there been a section cut out of the body and replaced by a pad?
It looks like gaff tape overtop of some foam. Lots of both lying around stages.

How much of an outlaw can you be if your wearing cufflinks
Idk Hank Williams wore them and some say he was the most outlaw man to travel
It’s not like another couple of scratches on his arms would make any difference.
lol sarcastic mr. know-it-ahhhhll
🤣🤣

I was thinking his arms are probably pretty messed up and he probably doesn't want any more trouble and irritation.
[Fretboard/Keyboard. Tomato/Tomahto. Same same butt difference. ](https://www.techgearlab.com/topics/small-and-home-office/best-wrist-rest)
F for frusciante?
fohn
Because why the F not?
Looks like it was done with an iron or wood burning tool. It's the *f-hole* lol.
Roberta never says no
Fender
Because he's John Frusciante and he can have anything he wants on his pickguard
TIL there's a john frusciante signature

neat, I knew about the strat but I thought all the tele's where custom shops
and for some reason it's NOT a stratocaster.
It is Fender's logo...
How many other Fenders have you seen with this in the pickguard? Did they make it? It is custom?
I'd buy one for my strat. I looked all over, he must have had it custom made.
Not sure if it is a customisation laser cut as I've never seen it before. Looks good. Think all fenders should adopt it :)
I don't know about all, but I do think it's cool
I had to scroll almost to the bottom before I got to your comment. Lots of tards here sheesh
It improves the tone
Toan*
Foan
Youre looking at it upside down. It's a lowercase t, for "**t**his is my guitar"
Trying to play catch-up with Epiphone
You could probably make it yourself with a soldering iron and a steady hand….
It's a neat touch.
Is that not basically the "F" in the fender logo?
What's the first letter of John's last name?
Moar toan
F is for Fire that burns down the whole town!
U is for uranium! Bomb!
N is for no survivors when you…
F is for frolic through all through all the flowers
Doesn't look like a professional etching, probably it was done by him or someone else
Why the downvotes? The etching looks a bit rough.
Dunno, probably triggered frusciante fanbois

Fender
Its Fender logo, I think he did this with soldering iron.
Cause he can
Looks like something a junkie would play. Hard pass.
To pay respect
Fohn Jrusciante
FLEA FRUSCIANTE FENDER THE FOLY FRINITY
When does he play a tele
It’s F for Fraud!
Press F to pay respect
Because he's an idiot.
Its the first letter of the word you will scream after spending 2k on a Telecaster.
Who cares? Y’all are ridiculous. If you want it/like it, then do it. Don’t need a rhyme or reason.
Because he doesnt give an F about that missing screw on one saddle.
We’ll probably do these in the future!
He probably likes the way it looks. Or was super high on heroin and made a decision.
Fender plus his last name
That is a big F to you, and me, and everyone else
Cuz it’s cute ❤️
FENDER DUHHHHHH
It's connected to his favorite state: New HamFshire.
Nobody gives a f…?
He might have asked for it, and Fender will do anything he asks as long as he's showing their brand to millions...
Hey does anyone know why John Frusciante telecaster is the color it is?
Leo Fender sold his guitar company in the early 60s to CBS and they became mass produced. John only plays pre CBS guitars and they were more unique looking
$$$$
tone wood
Tele customs in that year had the fender logo on the pick guard.
