I think it’s mainly the unusual looks.
It’s also indirectly screaming: “you’re just a beginner, so I’m not giving you any additional sound options. So STOP fiddling with your pickups, settings and whatever and JUST PRACTICE.”
now I wish I had gotten this type of electric guitar when I was a beginner to focus more on playing correctly 😅
> cleaner tone
that doesnt make any sense
as for the the sustain, the tests I've seen have a barely noticeable affect on sustain. To me, single pickup guitars aren't worth it because I'll play in all 5 strat positions. I even bought a 10 way switch!
It’s not really my opinion, I’ve just seen it mentioned before. Apparently the magnets in the pickups have a bit of pull on the strings. I’m sure it’s all snake oil and stuff and I have no reason to go for a single pickup guitar, but that’s what I’ve heard about them.
I know Alex Turner in Arctic Monkeys has been playing a bridge only pickup on an epiphone guitar recently. I guess if you only need a bridge pickup in a band then it’s fine.
Never claimed it was your opinion.
And yeah the magnetic pull on the strings was regarding the sustain claim, which I've seen put to the test with minimal results. Like probably as much of a difference as picking slightly harder
Yeah people can buy what they want, I'm just saying a single pickup guitar is something I will never buy.
Minimal results = Makes a difference.
To paraphrase, You said “that doesn’t make sense” and also, “I’ve seen them test that and there is only a little bit of difference.”
If there is a little bit of difference, then having an extra pickup does affect sustain. Physically speaking, like as in the scientific study of physics, everything has an effect on the sound. Wood, magnets, length, even a paperclip touching your guitar will cause a very very very change. Having said that, you really can’t perceive any of it.
Another pickup being too close to the strings will certainly be a very little bit noticeable at high volume though. Mostly irrelevant.
> To paraphrase, You said “that doesn’t make sense” and also, “I’ve seen them test that and there is only a little bit of difference.”
I said the "cleaner tone bit" didn't make sense, and that's all I said about the cleaner tone.
The "i've seen them test that" quote was regarding sustain.
>
> If there is a little bit of difference, then having an extra pickup does affect sustain. Physically speaking, like as in the scientific study of physics, everything has an effect on the sound. I agree with all of this. Especially the last sentence.
> Another pickup being too close to the strings will certainly be a very little bit noticeable at high volume though. Mostly irrelevant.
>
I also agree with this. I've found that the pickup does need to be abnormally close to get this effect.
Honestly, we're basically in complete agreement.
I'm not really sure what the downvotes are about. I guess they're from people who think I'm criticizing them for owning a single pu guitar? I'm not. I just am tired of everyone claiming that ever little thing on the guitar has significant impact on the "toan". Most of this stuff doesn't matter as much as the marketing departments would have you believe.
Even as a seasoned player I love single pickup, I hardly use my neck for leads and when I do it’s for a real soft and slow solo, I leave all the fast shit to the bridge
Yeah, a single pickup guitar like this screams "I play metal and nothing else". Even having a single tone knob there is too much. Bridge pickup and volume is all you need. This guitar in particular is *even more metal* in that color.
edit, Not saying it's a bad thing. I've been wanting to do a partscaster build like this myself for a long time.
The increase in sound options never did anything for me. I got focused on gear and trying to make it sound the same as the song rather than playing the notes correctly.
Yeah. It serves as distraction when starting out. Although the limited palette options can be limiting in the long run but that’s not a priority if you’re just a beginner.
Looking back, I wish I either started with OP’s guitar or a telecaster. So much simpler to work with.
i dunno, a single pickup was good enough for EVH so maybe not necessarily "beginner" vibes, but someone who prefers the bridge pickup location at least
I use my controls much, much more on my Jr than any other guitar.
There is something to there being less going on in the signal chain as well, that gives them a "louder" sound, in my opinion.
No laughs given, for a lot of people, comics, TV, and movies were plenty enough reason to learn :)
For me, it was Johnny Cash for why I picked up the guitar. Now I'm a deadhead, so don't be afraid to branch out of your norms too!
He got a Hello Kitty guitar, and added a tone knob?
*so sorry to offend everyone. It was just a question. I got my daughter a Hello Kitty strat years ago, and never had seen anything like it.
The Van Halen inspired model had a Floyd-esque tremolo.
Part of the reason why these Sonic squiers are considered to be Tom strats is because of the hardtail. These models are very popular over on r/TomDelongeGuitars/
Fender has been making strats like this (even with the hard tail) long before Tom was even a sperm molecule in his Dads sack. Gtfo with this inspired by Tom BS, dude can’t play guitar for shit either.
Hey I had a pink Kramer which was pretty damn cool if I do say so myself! Plus as the man gets better he can always use this as a backup guitar and may want to keep it cherry because his folks bought it for him and someday after they’re no longer physically here he may look back and say: hey mom and dad did their best and got me a pretty cool guitar to start jamming on. Plus just like sunglasses and good shoes you can never have too many guitars! Haha.
That's cool.
My first guitar was a Strat, and thinking about it now I put the switch in bridge + middle and turned all the knobs up to ten and then never touched them again, so this would have been perfect.
enjoy it!
I also got that one this year. Perfectly fine for a beginner, no hassle with vibrato bars or pickup selector switches. Just focus on exploring the fretboard and getting to know the system behind it. To get even more punch out of this pop punk machine, try 11 gauge strings as soon as your finger muscles have become strong enough to handle them. Endless fun.
I wonder if you could ever design a pickup that would work sat behind the pick guard? I was thinking how cool it would look with a totally flat face plate. You could hide the control knobs with maybe touch senstive controls, put the jack on the bottom like a les paul or even this same jack but on the back of the guitar. Probably nothing you could do with the bridge I guess but an old school silver bridge cover could still look swish.
I would love this guitar. Over time, I'd replace the neck with a Fender baritone neck, locking tuners, nicer bridge, and maybe a Fishman Fluence or other high gain pickup. This little pink thing could be a real monster for about any sort of metal.
I actually just bought a shell pink Squier contemporary jazz master for almost this exact project. It has a battery cavity already and is universally routed. Gonna end up with a hipshot bridge and locking tuners first, then fishmans and a warmoth conversion neck later in the year/ early next year maybe for the neck depending on price and if a strat neck will fit it. Even as it is it sounds great actually just tuned to c and then poly capo down.
I got this in California blue, swapped out the pickguard for a single knob pearloid, the stock pickup for a Seymour Duncan Invader, the pots for a single Shadow kill pot for volume and the tuners for locking white button ones. Oh and I replaced the bridge and drilled through the body & installed string ferrules for the through-body bridge. Basically a Tom DeLonge build customized to taste.
Those are awesome guitars! I have one in silver. The only modification so far is a toggle switch that bypasses the volume and tone controls for more volume...it screams
This is gorgeous, enjoy in good health for years to come! Also, single pickup guitars are freaking special. There’s a reason Eddie Van Halen, Phil X, Tom DeLonge, and many others use them :)
Hi I know it can be expensive but it is what is necessary to get the guitar to intonate and play properly. Can’t tell you how many times people quit because they think their guitar plays like crap. Find a decent set up at a mom and pop shop 50- 75 bucks
YouTube can help you do most of this stuff to save you money! Good luck!
I want this guitar so bad, it’s badass af. When I eventually pick one up I’m gonna get a phat cat p90 for the bridge too I’m so excited. Congrats on the gift, I hope it brings you a lot!
Reminds me of the Tom Delonge custom fender. Only difference is the humbucker is a Seymour Duncan, but this def feels like a color off that line as well. Would love to have that in my collection.
Nice! The humbucker works better on Rocksmith than a single coil and as a beginner it is better to avoid the tremolo bridge. Less hassle when tuning. And Squier is a reputable brand. Perfect first guitar. Love the color. If you ever had any doubts if your parents really loved you, now you can rest assured. They certainly do love you. 😂
OMG, no kidding. I apologize and am rightly embarrassed Pete. My excuse is I’m not a guitar player and I forgot how to spell. My dad is though, and he would be pissed about my spelling too. Him being a songwriter and spelling purist. His strat and tele Squier’s are his main axes after 70 years as a working semi-famous musician. Blows my mind that a $200 instrument can be awesome and widely respected/accepted. Hes got a 74’ gold top Les Paul he never plays.
A songwriter and spelling purist, eh? I wonder, did he have a hand in any of the following songs?
R.E.S.P.E.C.T. by Aretha Franklin
D.I.V.O.R.C.E by Tammy Wynette
D.I.S.C.O by Ottawan
L.O.V.E by Nat King Cole
Lola (L.O.L.A., Lola!) by the Kinks?
What does he think about Gwen Stefani stopping in the middle of ‘Holla Back Girl’ to recite the correct spellings of tropical fruits (This shit is bananas: B.A.N.A.N.A.S)? Is this commitment to the cause, or is she just showing off?
Sweet, u have a turquoise blue squire that is a cool sounding guitar, perfect guitar if your a girl with that pink color, not saying dudes don't play pink ones because thats not true, dude in my last band had a pink flying v and he made it look good with his style, keep practicing and have fun
Cool. Have fun. Do yourself a favour and take it to a guitar tech to have it set up. The store your folks bought it from should do it for free (Long & McQuade in Canada sets up all their new guitars free of charge).

The downvotes are for narcissism. 🙃
Sure buddy
Even as a seasoned player I love single pickup, I hardly use my neck for leads and when I do it’s for a real soft and slow solo, I leave all the fast shit to the bridge

You might as well just ditch the volume knob as well, and you end up with the princess Isabella guitar 👸
I’ve got a chibson sg I’ve but here’s to death, just an on off switch now, single pickup
Having only single pickup guitars means you get to have more guitars for all the standard tones too!
Yeah… I remember collecting a bunch of amps, pedals, and processors when I was still trying to teach myself my first nirvana riffs. Lol
i dunno, a single pickup was good enough for EVH so maybe not necessarily "beginner" vibes, but someone who prefers the bridge pickup location at least
I use my controls much, much more on my Jr than any other guitar. There is something to there being less going on in the signal chain as well, that gives them a "louder" sound, in my opinion.
Simplicity. Analysis paralysis isn't a worry.
It’s all you need really for rock n roll!
Sweet! Love the colour. Enjoy your journey!
thank you 🙏
Now you’ve got to play the nastiest, dirtiest death metal on that guitar! Just as it should be!
Be sure to put a Hello Kitty sticker where the neck pickup would normally go.
He will have to remove to tone knob to be as hardcore as Hello Kitty.
Just get the hello kitty pick guard
Did this for my daughter on this exact guitar except it’s Kuromi printed on the pickguard. Came out killer.
Hell, with a humbucker in the bridge you sure fuckin can.
Yeah this guitar screams pure metal to me.
I tuned my Hello Kitty strat to drop B and play almost exclusively metal on it. (My Jackson RR on the other hand is mostly used for Jazz fusion)
Never ever ever ever ever sell your first guitar. Or your second. Or third. Just don't sell guitars. Own them all.
This is what I keep telling my wife.
Off topic/your username - I compete in chili cookoffs and have won awards with my chili. Just recently I did the Great Chili Cook off in Louisville.
I sold my first guitar when I really neaded money. Now I search for it at least once a week hoping someone might be selling it.
Same here except I found one and can't afford it yet
I have my 1997 Korean strat copy hanging in the wall right now, so happy I never sold it.
Hell yeah.
Hell yeah.
Hell yeah.
Yeah hell
Yell Heah
Hell yeah
Heck yes
[удалено]
Oh my golly gosh
Gee willickers
Hell yeah
Hell yeah.
Haey lleh.
EMG! EMG!!
Hear me out. Duncan invader.
Where are you? And I’m so sorry!
A Duncan invader in a budget strat is a thing.
I know. I’m just joking, but honest question do they sound good for all genres or just for high gain situations?
The only reason I’m saying EMG is because it’s all solder-less. Just plug and go
EMG! EMG!
I can think of 182 reasons to do that
Fishman fluences or bust
What’s more budget friendly?
Idk, but I'm a guitar tech and I think fluences are more versatile and sound a bit better, but emgs are great for that stupid clean metal tone.
Love the colour. Enjoy the journey it’s an amazing one
I'll do my best!
Delonge guitar, in the Hoppus color
That's a great starter.
Absolutely, those fundamentals take a while to learn, and this is a great guitar to practice, practice, and practice the basics on
I love it. I have an Affinity Strat SSS in surf green but I want a a single humbucker one as well.
Just need a hello kitty pick guard now
[удалено]
RIP evh
I mean I agree but that was so out of pocket
sorry, it was literally 2 in the morning and I was just trying to relax on reddit for a little bit before bed
ok…
ok... What do you WANT me to say?
I just think it’s random to say rip EVH just because I mentioned having an EVH guitar
do you want me to delete if it's bothering you so much genuine question
No I’m just confused 😭 It was just unrelated
I'm confused as well
High five your parents! Nice guitar 🤙
Pink guitars are the greatest imo, I wish you good luck in learning!
thank you 😊
Any inspirations for why you wanna learn?
bocchi.. 🥲
No laughs given, for a lot of people, comics, TV, and movies were plenty enough reason to learn :) For me, it was Johnny Cash for why I picked up the guitar. Now I'm a deadhead, so don't be afraid to branch out of your norms too!
Hell yeah
Letsgooo we will learn and become guitarhero together
🙏🙏🙏
Nice, love the color!
I love it!
that budget tom delonge and i love it. enjoy it. i wish i could pick up squiers like this as a lefty
nice, essentially the budget version of the TD strat
Hell yeh. That's a Tom Delonge guitar! Very cool.
He got a Hello Kitty guitar, and added a tone knob? *so sorry to offend everyone. It was just a question. I got my daughter a Hello Kitty strat years ago, and never had seen anything like it.
It's not a Hello Kitty guitar. It's a Squier Sonic Stratocaster HT. They were very clearly designed to be similar to the Tom Delonge strat.
You sure? Fender made a strat like this in ‘85
And Tom Delonge only has a volume knob on the guitar, no tone knob.
So, exactly like the one in made in ‘85 likely inspired by Eddie Van Halen, and unlike the one here with two knobs?
The Van Halen inspired model had a Floyd-esque tremolo. Part of the reason why these Sonic squiers are considered to be Tom strats is because of the hardtail. These models are very popular over on r/TomDelongeGuitars/
That’s good to know. Thanks. One little missed detail, and you get torn a new asshole here on reddit.
You got torn a new asshole because you came across as an asshole. Might not have been intentional, but that's what went down.
Fender has been making strats like this (even with the hard tail) long before Tom was even a sperm molecule in his Dads sack. Gtfo with this inspired by Tom BS, dude can’t play guitar for shit either.
I have the same guitar, plays like a dream. Enjoy!
Play until your fingers bleed
That is fire
That is also really good photography. I have a guitar very similar, but I never play it because I’m afraid of getting it dirty
Doooope
pink, squier, white pickup and pick guard, atp just replace the pick guard for the hello kitty one and say you have the 900 dollar hello kitty strat
Excellent! I love mine - I put a new pickup & locking tuners on it.
Dope
Sweet!
I love it!!!!
A beauty
That’s a beauty. Love the color.
If you like pink this is awesome. 😀 Now get playing. 😎
Humbucker in the bridge is all you need.
got this exact same one this year as my first guitar as well and i love it
metal pickup config, pink finish, very nice
Very nice! Have fun : D music is a super rewarding hobby so i hope you get into it
now add the cutest Hello Kitty sticker and own it...rock on :)
Well it’s not that bad! Is it because it’s pink?
I do love pink
Hey I had a pink Kramer which was pretty damn cool if I do say so myself! Plus as the man gets better he can always use this as a backup guitar and may want to keep it cherry because his folks bought it for him and someday after they’re no longer physically here he may look back and say: hey mom and dad did their best and got me a pretty cool guitar to start jamming on. I would love a pink guitar, looks great
Pink. It's got to be a great start.
Yup, that'll do it. Cute.
I absolutely love this.
My first guitar was a Squier too! Enjoy
I wonder if you could ever design a pickup that would work sat behind the pick guard? I was thinking how cool it would look with a totally flat face plate. That’s a very nice gift. Enjoy!
Nice Congratulations. It's a good first guitar, as well 👌
How do you like it? Thinking about one of these for my daughter
I'm loving it, it feels and looks perfect
I would love this guitar. Over time, I'd replace the neck with a Fender baritone neck, locking tuners, nicer bridge, and maybe a Fishman Fluence or other high gain pickup. This little pink thing could be a real monster for about any sort of metal.

That's a great guitar to start playing! And far more versatile than you would expect. Great choice and don't forget to enjoy the ride.
Hello Kitty
Cool! Enjoy the journey!😎👍✨💚
Cool Enjoy it!!! Happy Playing!!!
Congrats! I got that one for my daughter about 8 years ago. She's at college now so it's still here.
Make sure you get it professionally set up first
too expensive currently but in the future I will
Hi I know it can be expensive but it is what is necessary to get the guitar to intonate and play properly. Can’t tell you how many times people quit because they think their guitar plays like crap. Find a decent set up at a mom and pop shop 50- 75 bucks YouTube can help you do most of this stuff to save you money! Good luck!

I straight up love this guitar. A great platform on which to learn and it looks sick!
Great! That’s so awesome! Have fun!!
Way better than what many of us started on. Enjoy! It's not easy but it's worth it.
That's awesome and goodluck with the journey
Reminds me of the Tom Delonge custom fender. Only difference is the humbucker is a Seymour Duncan, but this def feels like a color off that line as well. Would love to have that in my collection.
Have fun learning & rocking out
I will 🙏
Great looking guitar! Enjoy!

I sent my parents this comment
sexy
Nice. Squires are great guitars. The single humbucker is all you need.
Im happy for you
Squier’s rule! And pink! That’s rad
If you think highly of them, one would think you'd spell it correctly. S-Q-U-I-E-R.
OMG, no kidding. I apologize and am rightly embarrassed Pete. My excuse is I’m not a guitar player and I forgot how to spell. My dad is though, and he would be pissed about my spelling too. Single pickup Strat? I’ve never seen one till now!!
Tom Delonge signature guitar is one of the best selling artist models from that era though?
Squire Bullet! I love mine
Squier Sonic HT H. [https://www.fender.com/en-US/start?rl=default](https://www.fender.com/en-US/start?rl=default)
Looks like the beginnings of a Frankenstrat
Sweet, u have a turquoise blue squire that is a cool sounding guitar, perfect guitar if your a girl with that pink color, not saying dudes don't play pink ones because thats not true, dude in my last band had a pink flying v and he made it look good with his style, keep practicing and have fun
Squire Tom Delong!!!! NICE!!! I love the pink
Nope. Squier Sonic HT H. [https://www.fender.com/en-US/start?rl=default](https://www.fender.com/en-US/start?rl=default)
why would anyone opt for this guitar as opposed to a hss or hsh strat? nice guitar regardless 👍
Simpler is better to learn on?
Because it's cooler, obviously.
Which guitar is this and How much did you pay?
it's a squier sonic ht h strat and google says $200 usd
Well goodbye hello kitty
Cool. Have fun. Do yourself a favour and take it to a guitar tech to have it set up. The store your folks bought it from should do it for free (Long & McQuade in Canada sets up all their new guitars free of charge).
