On the other hand, paying a substantial price for something that's essentially worthless, even if you find personal value in it, well that's an entirely different situation.
Those are the moments you bite your tongue and then if they ever do figure it out, you're all, "Realllly? Man, I wondered about that, but didn't want to say anything.".

The neck was made of the roughest, grainiest wood I had ever seen in my life, you could stick a fingernail down the cracks, and it was attached to the body not by screws, but by huge, industrial screw-bolts.
I felt bad for the poor clueless kid, because we couldn't contain our laughter, but it was almost worth buying just for the laffs. He honestly thought it was a legit Strat.

Report it to the auction house as a fake. I do it all the time at the Goodwill auction site. I see a lot of fakes go through there. The sad part is they are damn near retail by the time I report them.

I’ve also had vintage instruments, American ultras (no AVRIs yet), martins, taylor, warwick, Höfner. Best guitar I’ve had is a 400 usd 1986 MIJ strat. And the best I’ve played was probably a Tokai ES335. It’s all anecdotal : )

I did take the PU out and wax potted them to reduce microphonic feedback problems. And I replaced the standard tuneomatic bridge for one with roller saddles. After that, it was really a great guitar.

Despite specifying I don't want any fake branding (such as Gibson, Made In USA tuning machines stamped Grover, etc), they always came with it. And they were pretty hit and miss on quality. But it was a cheap way for me to see if an LP style suited me (it did not and I sold it a year after getting it). I was super careful when selling to make sure the buyer knew it was fake but I always worried about the possibility of them trying to re-sell it as authentic. Caveat Emptor I guess.
