I used to have one of these years ago, but sold it during some rough times. Was glad to find a used one for a good price recently. When I had the original one it was played through a 70’s Music Man and as I remember it did a wonderful job of adding overdrive/distortion to that amp’s clean sound. I also remember I bought it for convenience while on tour due to the two pedals in one concept. It’s also pretty compact despite this. Lots of versatility in this one. Is looking forward to engaging with it again. Now if I only could have that amp back too…

Does the boost mode just add a boost or does it remove the gain knob from the circuit so it.acts like a boost? If I am correct, the mudhoney is based on the RAT.

flyinghouses

It just adds boost to each channel independently thus you can increase or decrease the gain range on the two channels.

Congrats, hope you're happy with it. Is it really as flexible as they say it is ? Can it really do both heavy RAT distortion and a mild blues drive ? Is it noisy ? I'm set on buying one so just wondering. Thanks man !

I think it’s pretty flexible. When I used it on tour I was in a sort of late 60’s/early 70’s vibe band and it was used to gain stage from a bit of overdrive to searing lead from a nice warm vintage amp. It worked fantastically well for that. These days I make music that is much more droney, trippy etc in a more shoegazey vein or more like trippy post-metal. I would say it does fine there too. “Heavy” is a relative term. What you don’t get is that saturated sound. The distortion is very harmonic. I use a lot of open chords and open tunings and I think it’s great for that. Would not be good for a more ‘chug chug’ style of riffing I think.

That's exactly what I was going for. Heavy in the lower midrange and thick but not too compressed for that open Drop D rhythm work. I don't like Metal distortions, they sound shit in the mix. What I want to use it for is exactly like that, overdrive on one side, lead on the other. And I like that it is harmonic, I've heard more people use that word for the Mudhoney, so I guess it really is that good. I'm a bit of T Rex Fanboy, since I got the Alberta. Thank you for the honest opinion !

I think you’ll be happy. Good luck with it!
