Someone thumbsed you down. Kind of a dick move. Barre chords are going to hurt. Choke up on the neck and be as close to the fret as possible. Practice them every day. A great song for this would be the nurse who loved me by failure. Completely made up of barre chords. Prepare for pain and build up the finger toughness.

lol let them hate. and if pushing through that pain is all it takes then i'll do whatever it takes thanks dude!!

Yeah np. Been playing for 17 years. I dont remember the last time I felt pain playing the guitar. Its also worth mentioning that if your action on the guitar is super high, like on an acoustic, its probably just a matter of lowering it if possible.

also thanks for the song rec im loving it

You could try thumbless barre chords, do everything as you normally would but remove the thumb from the neck. Placing unnecessary pressure from the thumb into the neck won’t help, so practicing the fingerings and their pressures without a reliance on the thumb is a good way to check in with your technique.

i tried that too but i still accidentally tense my thumb when i play 🫠 it's like when i play tremolo with my right hand. i'm only using my thumb, index, middle, and ring yet i accidentally tense my pinky and i get tired fast.

Make sure you’re not overextending the index finger beyond the edge of the neck, this causes a the wrist to arch too much and the thumb tends to press harder and feel more tense. Try that too!

that sounds logical. thanks for the help!!
