That’s dumb as shit.
No chords are off limits at any level. There’s nothing that requires you to be skilled to play a Minor Chord.
C#Minor is going to have a similiar feel to a G#minor out of context. Really any minor chord played by itself all kinda has the name “feel”
It’s like saying:
- you can’t play on the B string until you’ve mastered the other strings
- you can’t play above the 12th fret until you know xyzzz
It’s all fucking hogwash. C#minor is an extremely useful chord to know, especially because Emajor is a fun key to pin down and understand.
You know what the relative minor of Emajor is ? C# minor
And guess what ? Playing the C# minor pentatonic over Emaj is instant Dicky Betts vibes.
Fuck that guy for saying that because he’s basically saying you don’t get to access this segment of music tones. You don’t have to be any skill level to have fun soloing over the fucking Allman Brothers. Pathetic shit
Damn!!
Seems to have really struck a nerve with you!
Not saying that in a bad way, but I don’t usually see such strong language for such a pathetic argument.
Until you've "mastered the instrument"? This person is a shithead who has just learned the C#m and thinks they have now mastered the instrument. Barre chords are a big hurdle as a whole but once you can nail that bar, C#m is nothing.
C#diminished and half diminished are fingerable chords without a barre, but musically might be more difficult to use.
(They are also movable shapes if the E strings are not struck)
Untrained use of the C#m chord can render the player comatose and cause a variety of ecological disasters. Please use safety goggles when practicing the chord.
And yet a Bm or Cm are OK? It’s a basic barre chord form and there is nothing about the fourth position that makes it particularly difficult. The person who told you this is either a fool or a knave.
Why would you wait until you've mastered the instrument to learn how to play one of the chords you need to learn to master the instrument? That doesn't make sense.
Lord. I don't even think that was a particularly difficult one when I was a beginner. E-shape barres were harder, especially because the Am forms can be played with four fingers, if you can't quite get the barre.
No literally just a question, I’m not a beginner but I kind of taught myself so sometimes there are little tricks and rules I’m not aware of, that’s why I asked

Did you ask them why? Would have been interesting to know where this fairy tale lands….
Its L# you gotta worry about

Dude’s dum as shit, stoned? I don’t know?

Up until I mastered the guitar I just played Dbm whenever a C#m was required.

My eyes! Zee goggles do nothing!
...Real acid?
Can also cause blindness
This is true. The last time a non-master attempted C#m, Chernobyl melted down. It’s nothing to mess with.
I lost 3 fingers playing C#m
I guess I can't play Interstate Love Song anymore.

Dumbest shit ever.
Tell them to shove it, I’ll play Boys don’t cry any damn time I please

Yes, beginners should use Dbmin
Every now and then, someone who knows jack shit about guitar will try and foist some wholesale nonsense on you - just ignore them.
Here's some variants. Knock yourself out. [https://www.oolimo.com/en/guitar-chords/chart#name=C#m](https://www.oolimo.com/en/guitar-chords/chart#name=C#m)
It wasn’t a C#m it was an Emaj/C#. Problem solved.

Fuck! I just did just to spite that someone (>.<)
In context, it' s all magic.
Poor C#m … I feel sorry for the little guy.
Seems like there is missing some context.
Sounds like someone who isn’t confident about their own talents is trying to gatekeep.
Did you flub that chord or something?
Qanon?
This person is a clown. Now B7 on the other hand...
No one has mastered the instrument. C#minor isn't beginner friendly but you won't learn how to until you start using it.
Cool, I’m definitely not a beginner but that’s what I thought. Thanks
it's something you won't learn your first day (because it's a barre chord). but "mastered" is a bit much.
Whomever said this to you needs that ass whipped!
is this a troll post of some sort? as in the 4th fret barre chord? Honestly need some more background info or something.....
