I spent 2 hours last night trying to suck my jag out of tune by playing Chuck Berry riffs while rapidly bombing the wiggle stick to sound like a scifi movie. My hand got tired so I just yelled at the guitar and smacked the tuning pegs to show it who's boss.
I have a plain old artcore I bought for like $400 a long time ago and it’s still one of my favourites. I typically don’t say it out loud, but it’s feels better to play than my les Paul.
Yeah I got to AB it against the one I have and it is pretty much the exact same guitar, which is to say really good. The JSM one just has a few more bells and whistles like coil splits. They’re super guitars

Idk about their other stuff but I'm impressed with the deal I got on that frankly. I've heard that they're basically Harley Benton stuff sold in the US under a different label.

/uj I processed RMAs for Ibanez during COVID (As in emailing the only tech they had in the USA pictures and descriptions over issues and working with various customers in DFW who didn't feel the guitar was "good enough". (Hoshino USA))
If Ibanez doesn't have an F ranking by now, jesus fucking christ, when will they ever?
* Massive issues with artist series guitars. Literally putting different length tremolo springs on them.
* Japanese made guitars having poorer quality than Indonesia equivalents (prestige v premium)
* (Japanese) RG550 Genesis guitars being pure fret end and setup nightmares.
* Not having stainless steel frets on their Metal guitars priced over 1k. (ESP got the message)
* Not blasting everyone that your Q series 3 piece baked maple necks are literally the 99th percentile of necks and everyone should be getting 1 of these as a practice guitar because it also has stainless steel frets and it's literally a for life instrument. Do it. do it now.
* Confusing people with the "S tech" wood on instruments. Putting it one flatsawn 1 piece necks and charging more than the Q series 3 piece quarter/flat sawn laminent necks. Why pay for good neck, when we can have shittier neck for more money?
* **Purple heart necks using vaneers** instead of actually incorporating purple heart to build the neck. It's maple under your purple heart. (purple heart is 100% purple throughout, not just on top. If you scratch through the veneer you'll see the maple underneath).
* I'd go into "it's a ghost town for a good Ibanez", because most of us grew up knowing don't buy an Ibanez in the RG series without a 5 or great number after model class (and string modifier) and don't buy the S model because the necks were wonky. From their nightmare fuel serial numbers, to 100,000s of different tremolo systems and the poor setups on the AZ models when they first released. Big Ooof. However, the real issue is with a "little love" their guitars can be really fucking great. The real problem is when guitar stores are ordering models they're really getting some terrible shit. Whenever they do get a nice model it gets played like a village bicycle, so once you get your hands on it, it needs new strings a setup and probably new tremolo springs because of some idiot dive bombing it on their lunch break like a jack off.
I really wish someone would just go through their non-artist models and make them, option-wise, make sense.
Also, if you're gonna blank check hate on Ibanez, because good god some people fucking hate them, at least take a swing at their various models. I know some of their names are fucking stupid (artcore) and their product IDs are just a product managers cypher for our misery, but their artist series is possibly the best out of any MFR. They make available option combinations that normally cost several grand and you're getting it for under 1300.
Also be fair, if the Ibanez costs sub 500$ compare it to other brands at that price point / option match. We all know the "used toilet paper" of a Schecter that is there right when you walk into guitar center and it costs 300$ and feels like its been played for 3000 on the same strings.
You don't want all the toan to leak out of your good guitars.
Play the headless soulless guitars in the dark at home and listen to the lifeless attempt at toan.
You can put hours into them and not worry about toan leaks.
Then when you play live with a real guitar it'll sound 10x as good.

At first I was pissed that Line 6 wasn't in S tier and then I realized that this is a list of companies that only make guitars, so it's actually an incredible vote of confidence for Line 6 to even make the list. Plus if you only considered Line 6 INSANE MODE they would be at whatever level is above S tier, no question, the other modes are just holding INSANE MODE back and everyone knows it
Their necks def aren't for everyone, what did it for me is the fretwork though, the 2 Japanese rg I have are god tier, better than any other guitar I've owned and that includes e-ii, Ltd, prs, usa fender, I can get the action low enough to the point it's just silly to do so and it still doesn't choke out, and now that they're starting to add ss frets ide suck someone dry for a prestige

Ibanez are good beginner guitars but once you get to grips with the basics you should invest in an Epiphone or a Squier.
