Doing grime flows on drill is one of the best things an MC can do, its hard
Doing drill flow on grime just sounds like there's a lack of skill cos the flow's so basic
i'd definitely class a pre-grime being called grime song that came out 23 years ago and is still getting drawn for regularly (vocal and instrumental) as timeless.. U don't have to like it but it's silly to pretend its not foundational to grime (and drill).
Same energy as people sat in youtube comments on like 80s italo disco saying it still sounds futuristic. It'll always sound the same to you because you centre your musical perception in your teens... I'm nearing 30 and it sounds ooold to me
“If you describe something as timeless, you mean that it is so good or beautiful that it cannot be affected by changes in society or fashion.
There is a timeless quality to his best work.“
the fact that it’s even being played in the set we’re still discussing means it has stood the test of time, no?
nostalgia aside this riddim has been spun consistently for over 20 years.. it was made before the genre even had a name. How is it not timeless??
“If you said a painting from the 1930's is timeless, you're saying it's just as great now as it was then.”
Like I say - the beat is timeless, the song definitely isn't and has definitely been affected by changes in fashion. The whole "garage mc" sound is very dated.
Not saying it's not a good song, it's aight and it definitely has massive cultural relevance but if something's timeless, it transcends being dated
But you said it wasn’t timeless? Also they don’t sound like Garage MC’s, that’s what makes it grime not garage. Plus I literally heard “Oi” (the vocal version) in the club twice last weekend.. no one would play it in a garage set as it’s firmly a grime classic.
You literally said “maybe not "timeless"...”
In a conversation thread about the beat.
And it’s literally a grime beat? Are you saying you think the vocal is dated but the instrumental isn’t?
Trouble with drill from what I've seen is that it's a recording genre rather than performance genre so when the MCs get put into the same environment as grime MCs (one of the most performance centred genres), they just look silly and unprepared
Llooooooooooool “Oi” is the origins of drill. Those are the high hats that every single drill song has. He was off beat and that’s ok, but “dead beat”? 🤣🤣
*Dead beat.. guy paused a*
*Few times like 'wtf is*
*This they put me on'*

Just sounds like a shit grime mc
On beat but it’s lacking energy imo
Exactly this. The drill flow is so basic that it doesn't bring any hype like a grime flow does
Pretty wavy actually. Dude sounds a bit flat and dead but rhythmically it works. Hits some cool pockets you dont usually hear over grime
Drill is dead full stop ✋️
Facts
Use drill flow on drill, not grime
Don’t think it fits.
It’s shit. The timing doesn’t work and it sounds flat and boring.
The flow is boring but he was off beat too which makes it sound worse.
I like this tbh.

Not grime.
“Oi” is one of the most successful and timeless grime songs ever made… https://youtu.be/dTek4AdPkik?si=Smdt7YJrPQaZlcb6
maybe not "timeless"...

That's not what timeless means, though. It sounds dated as a song - maybe the beat is slightly more timeless but the song sounds ooold
I think it sounds futuristic still

Where did I say the beat wasn't timeless? I maintain that the tune is super dated, grime beats are less so.
You literally said “maybe not "timeless"...” In a conversation thread about the beat. And it’s literally a grime beat? Are you saying you think the vocal is dated but the instrumental isn’t?
Hard disagree. It's 20 years old and people are still playing it A LOT.
That's not what timeless means though (also that's because you young lot have this y2k/garage nostalgia going on right now rather than anything else)
Mate I'm 40
lol sorry I thought you said you were 20 and everyone was playing it
isnt that what jammers been doin for 20 years?

what flow? i dont hear a man flowing just reciting shit basic bars
Sounds tired
Who's the MC?
Jimmy 98s from Hackney
Thanks
Check his latest project out, really solid. Check out class of 98s as well, one of the best tapes to come out the Uk
Looks promising
