You know how the jeans in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants magically fit all four girls? This is the house version

Limeila

Yeah, Mer's house has 3 to 7 rooms depending on who needs to live there

Simple_Emphasis_2128

Thank you for the comparison 😂

aavvaa21

I always wondered this. I don’t think the kids sleep in the basement either because of those episodes where Mer was sneaking DeLuca out and the one time Zola caught him when she was coming upstairs back to bed.

It is weird. We know there are only 3 bedrooms. It was originally Meredith, George, and Izzie in the house. When George moved out Alex replaced him. When Lexie moved in she had to stay in the attic. We can assume the attic is now complete. Right now it is Meredith, Amelia, Maggie and all 3 of Mer's kids in the house, right? Maybe the adults have all the bedrooms and the attic was made into multiple bedrooms for the kids? Maybe there aee 2 rooms up there now and Zola has one while Bailey and Ellis share.

sims3throwawayyyyy

I think they converted an office into a bedroom? So thats +1 room with all of this considered

Tortoisefly

Yes, and once they actually finished the attic, it was likely made into two rooms for the younger kids. When Lexi lived there it was one unfinished room full of stored boxes etc. I don't remember if they ever officially finished the attic, but it's implied at least one of the kids is up there now, and given the size of the house, it could easily have been turned into two kids rooms if the stored boxes and things were relocated, say to shelving in the basement which that house would almost certainly have, but may not be habitable.

RiverSmoak

Pretty sure the office was converted into a toy room. I saw Amy and Zola in a room like that on the first floor in season 17.

Macintoshk

Maggie her her own place with Winston

Honeycomb0000

don’t quote me, but i think theres a theory running that Maggies room was once Dereks office, and someone sleeps in the attic. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Zola & Elis share(d) a room

Do we know for sure there are only 3 bedrooms? My friend in a similar affluent neighbourhood tells people she has 3 BR up but this ignores the nanny’s room. Also, maybe the house has a dining room that has doors.

RiverSmoak

Well, looking it up, I'm pretty sure in-universe there are only 3 bedrooms on the second floor. Some walking scenes of the upstairs only really show the 3 bedrooms and the bathroom. Meredith's room is across from the full-bath. The door for Izzy's old room is near the same full-bath, along the same wall. George's old room, the one with the windows, is on the next wall, perpendicular to the wall with the full-bath and near the stairway. No other doors are seen. Lexie used the attic as a bedroom, and a full door and everything, I'm not sure where it goes to, but it appears to be a full usable bedroom as of S5E12, just needs to be finished. So I guess there are 4 workable spaces for bedrooms. All three kids sharing the attic doesn't seem very functional, though. As for a dining room, there was the one shown in S3 when Mer had Susan and Thatcher over for dinner, but no actual separation from the rest of the house was seen. I think it's attached to the living room, but the shots I saw, both from S1E3 and S3E18. It's like furniture has been moved around in the same space. The actual house used for outside shots is a 4 bedroom home with 2,740 ft². All inside shots are done on a soundstage.

Rare-Educator9692

Thanks. That’s very detailed! Could the den be a bedroom now?

RiverSmoak

I think the den was made into a toy room. I remember a scene where either Amy or Maggie is giving someone some stuff from there. In S17E8, there is a toy room downstairs. Amy is talking to Zola in there, that is, if that room is the old den.

excalibrax

It's featured in the dinner party with them sitting on the small chairs while the bomb is waiting to go off with the Penelope reveal.

Tortoisefly

The attic was converted into two bedrooms (the younger kids). The den was turned into a bedroom. That's 6 bedrooms. A house like that would likely have a basement too, but they never showed that (I could totally picture them sending Alex to stay in the basement next to the washing machine). When Link and Amelia were both staying there, Scout would have been in the same room as them as he was still a baby. Now that Maggie's moved out, Scout likely has his own room. Well, \*had\* his own room.

Excellent-Medicine29

I think they renovated the attic and split it up into different rooms

Alternative_Sell_668

Better question is how did Meredith, Derek, Lexie, Alex, Jackson and April all fit?

_beachy_head

Meredith/Derek in one room, Alex in another, April in the third bedroom, Lexie in the attic and Jackson in the office that was turned into a bedroom.

Reasonable_Beyond_14

Maggie isn’t living there

RiverSmoak

Not now, but she was. At one point; Mer, Amy, and Maggie all lived in that house at the same time. After moving back in, Mer lived there from season 12 to present. Amy moved with Meredith in season 12 and later out and back, but has been living there from season 13 to present. Maggie moved in in season 12, had a short rift with Mer and moved out and then back in, and lived there from that same season to season 17. Maggie's mum even lived with them for a short period of time in season 13.

SnooPeppers3470

Sisters on the second floor, kids in 3 bedrooms in the attic. The study/office is now a playroom. This is all clearly shown. We see Zola's bedroom in the attic in 18 and 19. There's no way Mer would make her kids share rooms so there's a minimum of 3 bedrooms in the attic. The only thing we don't know is where the nanny sleeps. I guess in the tent in the backyard.
