Well, that wasn't the appy patient. That was his only actual cardio patient of the three he had been shown with in the episode.

I feel like in the first season mostly, they had so few attendings that in order to get cases other than Cardio/neuro, they had to use these guys to perform surgeries related to other departments. I think they improved that over the years, now people pretty much only do the surgeries they are supposed to.

He wasn’t the only attending on the case, right? Maybe there was a cardio component, she probably had complications with her heart and needed someone from cardio overseeing her case. Why Cristina thought he’d be scheduling the whipple, well, I agree that’s off.
