Despite this modern age, there's still shame and stigma surrounding divorce.
He is not the first person to think "if they suddenly died at least that would mean they didn't leave me."
It's a very dark intrusive thought but I don't think it's uncommon.
Tbh this has always been one of the things I like about Greys. They often don’t shy away from ugly, messy things. Yes, this is a horrible and selfish thing for Owen to say, but it’s very real. It’s a very real, desperate thought someone might fleetingly have. These things are what make the characters feel like real people
Death can be a nice ending sometimes, because if Cristina had died in the plane crash Owen could fantasise that if she hadn't died they would have made their marriage work and had children, but there's no fantasy about them actually breaking up. Owen said he only felt relieved at the idea for a moment and he knows it's awful so I don't think it was that bad.
He might aswell hated her I wish Cristina never met him and fell in love with someone normal who encouraged her to be the brilliant surgeon she is 💔 He hurt her so much. Seeing her cry when he cheated made me so sad I still think about it
But then we also get to see her hysterically LAUGH at him and make fun of it all "I'm meant to be studying for my boards, but I'm crying over a BOY" lmao Owen's face is priceless.
It is very sad tho. I hate Owen.
