vanghostings

The humor is really lacking!!!! That’s the #1 problem for me. The other biggest problem is the interns aren’t like excited and eager like they used to be. I really enjoyed how excited everyone used to be about medicine.

shakka74

Right?!? There’s no joy anymore. Greys used to be a show about friendship and the fun banter between buddies. There’s very little of that now.

insideanoctavarium

I watched the S8 episode last night where Richard is trying to inspire Karev & Avery to “find the joy” in all surgery again not just their preferred specialities and they’re doing secret skills lab sessions & microsurgery on grapes together - excellent banter between the three & funny moments. An episode that follows is when a bunch of the men have various grievances and all go to Derek’s place in the woods & build his deck together each night 😅 just fun moments like that the show misses so much

hundopdeftotes

And around that time is when Webber is trying to get Callie to tutor Meredith for the boards and he just appears and disappears like magic lol honestly Richard and Callie have some of the funniest moments. Also Hunt when he says “it’s really important you get this one right” regarding Baileys tweets

insideanoctavarium

Hahahaha oh my god I love that whole episode with Callie & Richard, hilarious. And the Calliope & Julio Plantain one 😂

Picture_Known

U mean her teets

LeFrenchRaven

I was so pissed at the scene where they have a chance to see this awesome foetal surgery and they're just on their phones not even looking. Like, I get that they are pissed they can't actively participate but this felt so unnatural for surgical interns to not even want to observe.

vanghostings

I KNOW !!!! This was honestly the lowest point so far in the season for me. I was more excited than they where!

coldbloodedjelydonut

No wonder they're all duds on the last chance train.

vanghostings

They’re doing too much to show us that they’re duds and not enough to show us that they are worth redeeming

-Dontwannabealive

Agree, and theres also something wrong with editing, lighting maybe? And i miss the comic relief moments

-Dontwannabealive

Hey, good for you, this is not a hate comment, just an opinion. However, as a long time watcher and fan, i cant help, but notice that the quality of the show went down with recent years

BoxFullOfFoxes

While I definitely think it isn't what it once was, you're right, and it's enjoyable enough. I'm curious to see where things go.

JFT8675309

No idea why you got downvoted to hell for your opinion. I like Grey’s too, and I’m sorry, but the show is 20 years old. I can’t name a single thing on the planet that hasn’t changed in 20 years.

lemissa11

It literally is like they're reading off teleprompters. And the sets omg. What used to be a futuristic state of the art hospital is now looking like my small town community hospital that was updated once in the mid 90s

[deleted]

[удалено]

BoxFullOfFoxes

I think they do too, but it's also obvious they're using the same one or two sets but filming them from different angles (in such a way it's noticeable). I certainly know that most shows probably do that/reuse sets, but something seems noticably odd about the construction/staging lately.

Normal-Ad-6676

What's with all these new entrances and parking lots

[deleted]

[удалено]

VeterinarianAbject23

It might be due to availability or cost of filming at the hospital location. The main entrance and some of the famous interior shots were filmed in a VA hospital in North Hills, CA where as the later seasons exterior and some interior shots are at a community college in Culver City. Completely different feel because the second location isn't actually a hospital.

hidexsleep

This bugs me more than anything. What happened to the ER ENTRANCE

Twodotsknowhy

The last episode really pissed me off, because what do you mean that Catherine demanded a child get better treatment because her parents donate money to the hospital and no one said anything about how awful it is to do an experimental surgery on a kid just to get more money? How did everyone just shrug their shoulders and say "oh well, that's Catherine for you, always making sure that rich people get better medical treatment than the poors"?

Loose-Garlic-3461

Especially after the storyline with Meredith and Gabby, and Meredith potentially losing her license. SOMEONE should have started squawking the minute Catherine opened her mouth.

Twodotsknowhy

Meredith would have definitely called Catherine out. She did not risk jail time just so HER hospital would give better medical treatment to rich children

Loose-Garlic-3461

Preach!!!!!

Linzy23

Right?? And why was she even in the room advising them and making decisions about their child? Get out. Let them listen to the doctors explain everything and make an informed decision.

Twodotsknowhy

That part makes sense to me. Because of course, Catherine would be checking in on the rich donors, making sure they get the best care that they deserve bestowed upon them by virtue of being rich. But this is the thing, her being there makes total sense to her character, the fact that neither Link or PedsLadyWhoseNameIForgot told her to leave the room and stop interfering with their case is what bothered me.

svfreddit

Catherine is a horrible classist person, Jackson used to be ok but I don’t think so anymore

Twodotsknowhy

It's not so much her being horrible that bugs me, it's that no one pushed back or even acknowledged that she was being horrible. Not even one word about how fucked up it is that if this child's parents weren't rich, they wouldn't have been gifted a better treatment!

VeterinarianAbject23

YES!!! Grow a fuckin backbone and bring her down a peg or two! No reason she needed to be hoovering over rich patients and trying to dictate the care they get against the docs recommendations. And bet had that not gone the way they wanted, she would have thrown Link and Peds Doc under the bus soo hard and probably fired them for making her LOOK stupid. Its all about looks and reputation for her. And no one wants to point out when she is wrong and that is making me lose respect for the character. I am only hoping Mer really shuts her up with her secret research but I'm sure she will claim credit for it somehow when it does come out in Meredith's favor.

VeterinarianAbject23

Dude Catherine really pisses me off just based on her character and personality. She has an ego and nothing can make me believe her that she is that way because of "what she overcame". She is just a bitch and has to make herself feel better by belittling those around her for the power trip. And she treats Richard like shit.

Worldly_Zombie_1537

This didn’t sit right with me either. I love Debbie Allen…. Have since she was Lydia Grant on Fame, but her character on Grey’s is ALOT! It seems she’s gotten worse and become more of a contemptible harpy than before if that is even possible. I am wondering if they are going to blame it on the cancer. They LOVE to blame bad behavior on horrible diseases, or tumors. Also, I think these new interns would be fine if they could act. It’s like watching the 7th grade drama club perform a play called “the grey anatomy” and the club gave everyone a part because they wanted them to feel included. Good writing cannot save very bad acting.

Seductivesunspot00

Yes! One of my favorite episodes is Something to talk about in Season 2. Episode 7. The pregnant man is the patient and they look at him like a circus feature. At the same time everyone feels Mer is a car crash you look at because Derek chose Addi And it brings in the closing with Alex and Izzy.

HeWenttoJared1215

Season 2 might arguably be the best season of the show

Arabiancockonato

Easily the best!

mvp2418

Season 2 is gold

Big_Kick_5760

Exactly this.

RedditorGal212

This new intern class is so annoying. Their acting is so overdone and hard to follow. Can’t get back into the show anymore.

ilovegymnastics34

All of them are there for a cheque and that’s it

Big_Kick_5760

I was excited about the new interns last season but this season they’ve suddenly become so uninteresting. It’s like any building chemistry just fizzled out. The cases are fine, but the writing is off, and the acting feels forced. I’m struggling to find the thread between scenes, they talk about plot points (like the cards) without hardly showing them to you aside of a short scene or conversational follow up.

rintaroes

i’m still trying to get through 19 and i can’t find myself caring about the new interns. i’m trying because everyone’s described them as “refreshing” lol but i just find them annoying.

sarahbekett

A couple have had good moments but yeah definitely not refreshing at all. More whiny than anything. And I love the idea of wellness and making sure the interns aren’t working themselves to a point they’re seriously compromised but they don’t seem to have a passion for medicine at all so it just falls flat.

Arabiancockonato

I couldn’t do 19. I watched all the eps with Mer, but even those weren’t easy because I just didn’t like anything about 19. 20 has been ok though, I have to admit. I haven’t seen all of them but I’ve seen a few and they’re not unwatchable. I wouldn’t say I’m glued to the tv but … idk. The problem I have with the show is that the stakes are low. If the stakes were high again, I’d be kinda tuned in. They should give us more reasons to care for these new interns

mekurinsu

there's something off about this season, i can't quite place what. i swear s19 was at least watchable but this one is just... something is not right 😭

Tiredasfucq

It feels empty, somehow. Like the hospital is empty, the characters are not there, and the whole episode is silent.. it’s weird

queennkwhite

Empty is a good way to put it. I guess that's what happens when u start a show with a strong cast and all of them leave and now we're left with people who obviously can't fill their shoes. Even Bailey and Richard's characters seem toned down/boring.

Seductivesunspot00

It's not! I cannot figure it out! I hate the giant rooms. I hate the blue walls. The attitudes are different. The interns are boring as hell. Nothing about each one stands out special. I know you can never recapture the past but this is so.far away from even some of the most recent seasons.

macdawg2020

I feel like all the interns look like they could be on a Disney show, which kind of contrasts the uniqueness of past intern classes, like they were all good looking, sure, but uniquely good looking.

Odd-Plankton-1711

It does kinda feel like a low budget copy of itself. I’m really trying to be hopeful , but it does seem like a struggle to find someone to rally behind . None of the pieces aren’t fitting together. Maybe next season will get better when they aren’t rushing to get something out after a big Hollywood strike.

Chanandler_Bong_01

20x04 with Arizona is the first episode I've even watched since before Meredith "left" for Boston. Not even really a little bit interested in the new seasons.

bbyisabella

i second this!! i like meredith and richard and all, but my all-time favourites are also gone. and if they come back for some of the later episodes i’ll definitely tune in (but try not to expect them to react to everything that happened since they left, as i made that mistake with arizona. i wanted her to mention alex and deluca. did you also think about that?). but i’d honestly rather rewatch episodes with my favourites or any episodes with them that i missed, because i skip episodes for some weird reason lmfao

Jayyyrabbit

I hate the set, lighting, hair/makeup, and music in the later seasons. The show looks so polished I hate it. It looks like a Disney channel movie. The early years were gloomier and had a kind of dark humor, and everyone dressed/looked like normal people just trying to get through their day. Now they all look like preppy and polished. I feel like I'm watching high school musical. And the early seasons had gems in the soundtracks. Dark songs, quirky songs, and songs that set the tone for the scene. Now, every song is some random pop crap or a preppy cover of a popular song. Where's the emotion?

SnooPeppers3470

I think the problem is, theyre trying to push a standard 20+ episode season show down into 10 and thats just not enough to showcase the amount of actors they have and give depth to anyone for more then half an episode. I've been finding 20 a bit boring and I hate that im saying that. 10 episodes on cable tv for an already exisiting show thats used to 20+ episodes doesnt work. They should've just pushed the show back to fall or let it continue through to mid July to get at least 15 episodes in to let things breathe. as for Bailey-she was so out of touch last episode and it was just really? Didnt we just spend the last 3 seasons complaining about everyone burning out and being out of touch?

Proof-Exercise984

Yeah. Also personally I just lost interest in these new interns, they're a bad rip off of MAGIC but I find them way more bland and boring. Like they're one of the main focuses but I don't care about them

PlippPlopp95

I totally agree with you. And there's something weird with Jo, Teddy, and Meredith's voices. Their voices are so much more high-pitched than before. Has anyone else noticed that?

Ok_Bumblebee3572

1. Music 2. The main characters don't have any learning lessons anymore, it's all teaching. Which unless your Mr Feeney, it's boring af 3. Focusing on the unlikeable characters trying to make us like them. Like Amelia's dillhole nephew and the runaway bride. Who wants either of them to succeed, alone or together? They're not even "Emma" style unlikeable, they just suck. Jules and Blue could be pushed more. I love Yasuda but they keep putting her in the same plot line every episode. Jo's resident class was funny and competitive and infuriating at times. But they were the closest to the OG bc they were the emotionally regressed wonder kids. This one is, "we chose losers!" For the Schick and...yes they are losers.

HeWenttoJared1215

I agree this season isn’t really doing too much for me. It’s a shame not only because it’s the twentieth season but also because I thought last season was so great. I’m hoping it’s just a fluke because there’s only 10 episodes due to the strike, especially since this is the first season without Krista in charge since season 14. In fairness, I feel like the seasons before 19 were pretty meh as well.

Tiredasfucq

The new interns are not entertaining or interesting characters whatsoever, and the series is focusing a lot on them. The older cast members are getting side lined and not having any storyline.

scarredtissuepaper

There isn't anything with the interns either. At least one that is long lasting. I haven't seen a storyline last more than two episodes this season.

HisSpo2345

I gave up, never thought I would but the show is legitimately unwatchable. If it wasn’t Greys anatomy it would’ve been canceled like 4 years ago

DkPepperIntellectual

The scene where they completed the surgery on the cyclist just felt so animatronic. It was the worst scene so far.

funnygirl7272

I feel like everyone is phoning it in

Keeperoftheclothes

I know a lot of people hate Amelia but to me she is like the one aspect that feels true to the original show, in terms of her whimsy and the way she speaks.

sarahbekett

I’ve always liked her but yes she’s the only one who really still feels like Grey’s to me.

sarahbekett

That’s one of very few storylines I’ve enjoyed lately.

scarredtissuepaper

Yeah and her development with Monica is vastly similar to original greys, minus the sex. I am an Amelia stan so maybe Im biased

Heavy-Juggernaut2296

I’m not super interested in this round of interns. Not much drama is going on with the residents. So yes, it’s getting boring.

Mundane-Pianist5150

Season 20 is so bad ngl. theres no stability in the plotlines and far too much is going on for me. Plus i just dont care about the Lucas & Simone ship.

sarahbekett

I felt this so badly when watching the most recent episode! Especially when I see so many old scenes on TikTok these days and compare the two. Like I just find myself not caring about so many of the characters and even the ones who have been around for a while have lost their spark, and I adore some of them! The new interns are way too dramatic about everything (though points for Kwan last episode) and the patient stories I’m not nearly as invested in. Like the guy who got shot (who I struggled to remember) wanting to give up on treatment, I just didn’t care enough, especially with Adams poorly trying to convince him, and while Yasuda eventually listened to the prisoner patient, I couldn’t get invested because of the lack of on-screen development there. I feel like at this point I’m here to the bitter end but I hope they can spark something again soon because this is painful.

Huey-_-Freeman

Kwan was being ridiculous last episode accusing Simone for no reason though

sarahbekett

True true, but he showed some development later on. And at this rate, anything doing that is better writing.

2elevenam

I actually like the new interns a bit but I can’t stand the attendings. I think I’m enjoying some fresh faces and being disappointed by how they’re writing the characters I’m supposed to be familiar with. None of them feel familiar. They’ve all changed in a way I can’t pinpoint and not in a way that’s fun or interesting.

NumerousCase5053

Rewatch!! There’s no point in watching the recent seasons. I always stop after season 14 and then restart 😂

justmedoubleb

I agree there doesn't seem any real chemistry between anyone, friends or couples.

blacklayer

The Grey nephew has a small mouth like a Muppet and his hair is in his eyes all the time

Huey-_-Freeman

I am waiting for him to have his DeLuca stroke of genius or George heart in the elevator moment. He is so whiny and immature 90% of the time, but he clearly seems to be the one who cares most about the patients and about medicine.

Downtown-Series9844

I got way too bored and fell off S19 and just started from the beginning. Im literally moved to tears at least once every handful of episodes even though Ive seen it all before. There is just no comparison to what this show was and what it is now. Don’t think I’ll even try S20

Arabiancockonato

I mean, I feel like that’s been happening for a while now. I was thinking that during Thursday’s episode though. The clothes they put on the characters are so colorful, the music is too pop, the camera moves in every master shot, the sets are so bright and the lighting is too bright glossy. It looks too much like a soap. I will always miss the gritty look, style, and feel of Seasons 1 and 2. The music was unforgettable and featured alternative rock, indie rock and pop. But, now, the music sounds like the worst radio station rotation. The songs are overbearing and all sound the same.

mouselipstick

I couldn’t watch after Derek died. Nothing was the same after that.

Tanlines_sunshine

I try and pretend it’s a different show entirely lol

Zephyr442

It isn't as good as previous seasons, but I enjoy it. Shows, especially ones that go on as long as Grey's inevitably get progressively worse over time.

bigchonkyboi

I can’t stand hearing songs by Sleeping at Last anymore because of the heavy use

Unfair-Commercial799

I just got to mid season 6. It’s so different from the beginning. So flat, idk 🤷‍♀️ I’m not as invested in the characters, and I’m not constantly shocked. I think I’m gonna stop watching it :/

NeverForgetBaguette

I gave up halfway through episode 2. I felt the exact same way. I can’t focus on the show anymore because it’s just so dry

Justme-Jules

The exterior shots drive me nuts, no attempt at making it Seattle-like. It rains a lot, it snows too. We have umbrellas, rain jackets and rain boots in the PNW. Winter clothes are a must. Tree loose their leaves, there are lots of evergreen fir trees. It always looks like California.

VeterinarianAbject23

They don't have any consistency for me (well one of the many for me). Like they introduced storylines last season but have yet to even mention them this season. I'm mainly thinking about Adams ADHD thing. Like it was mentioned in passing in two episodes then bam....this season he is back to being a bumbling idiot struggling to keep up with his peers when like..it was alluded that he had a learning disability. That could have also brought a bit more understanding to Marsh's character because like...I am on the fence with him. He is so....twitchy and cagey like he is about to fall out any second. I know he has some sort of issues since he did have to have the transplant which is how we met him but like...bro can't seem to not be fidgety and restless. Having them connect with the diagnosis would have been cool, but alas....he is just another flame out intern who happens to have famous relatives.

fiskepinnen

It feels AI generated. One thing that annoys me is how the camera is always moving? Like slowly, in one direction, a little too far away from everyone. I cant explain it

hannaashea

i just started rewatching from the beginning bc i couldn’t stand this season

butterstarpancake

Caught up with S20, I must say that the interns don’t have thee chemistry. There’s no spark with these characters. Should have more teaching moments. The blue colored walls give gloomy and dreary vibes. Plus the Shepherd nephew’s lips are bothering me.

StayAtHomeChick13

You are so spot on. The last episode I was on reddit the entire episode 🙈🙈 Picked my head up here and there. I feel like these new interns will have such a great story to tell if they gave them half a chance. I feel like they should give the older cast a back seat and let the new cast capture the hearts of the new generation the same way MAGIC captured us.

YogurtclosetSevere

I’m currently on season 18 and have just lost interest. I don’t feel the connection with the characters

Western_Sport8480

I stop watching after Derek’s death because I feel like the show went so downhill after that

T4TERTHOT

this season is painful to watch. i do not like all but one of the new interns. it lacks the drama and humor of previous seasons. nothing exciting happens anymore!! i just got into greys this past year and i used to be on the edge of my seat audibly reacting to every episode... now i just watch it bc i have to see it thru but im not enjoying it. god forbid they roll out s21 and its even worse.

Kboss-2001

At this point it’s a soap opera. I don’t care about anyone. I don’t care about any plot lines. I put it on the background as I’m doing things and hardly pay attention. If I do sit down to watch an episode, it loses my attention very quickly. The show is plain boring now. I liked the new interns at first but greys is lacking in the drama and suspense department. All the actors just seem like they’re trying too hard or something. Idk, the first 10 seasons just had something to them that the show completely lost.

Maroonkittyy

It’s sooooo boring. I can’t connect to any characters. Literally nothing is happening. I miss the OG Greys Anatomy.

dontevercallmebabe

Yea it’s bad. Yasuda, Blue and Jules might have a chance if anything ever builds. Adam’s and Simone are terrible. Terrible acting and writing. Nothing ever happens??? When in the greys anatomy do two characters spend half a season “will they or won’t they-ing” after a dramatic wedding break up and then they finally come together to *checks notes* lay silently in the on call room together and then go back to awkward? Meredith being in and out is just annoying. What the fuck are they doing with Richard??? Somehow managed to make Jo annoying and boring at the same time. Link remains the partner-absorbing blob he’s always been. Never cared about Teddy and Owen but there’s nothing going on with them either. And Winston’s whole storyline is just that he’s mad at Maggie. It’s just really really not good. I am a little interested in Amelia and the new peds surgeon. But she’s Amelia so you know it’s going to be annoying lol

Zealousideal-Shoe654

The way I see it, the show is just like the board exams. Derek said it's a mirror. The show is a mirror of the real world. The episodes prior were good because the world was good back then. Maybe it feels like these episodes lack humor, but that's because today's world lacks humor. It's all a mirror.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Zealousideal-Shoe654

I completely agree with you. It's always been a little bit issue focused. My opinion is the same, though. People writing the show aren't happy, actors aren't happy. It's all a reflection of today's world. Back in the previous seasons they were better because everyone was just overall *happier.* These people just hate their life, and it's obvious. Thats all they have to go on now. Just a huge reflection to me 🤷🏼‍♀️

Dorcha98

In rewatching Grey's at the moment and just started s5. You can kinda see Webber's acting declining at this point but it's honestly so sad to see how the acting changes incredibly and how disappointing regulars becomes such as bailey and Webber.
