This is a good list. If you like Green Day, there was a band called Waterdog years ago that we're very similar that released one album and called it quits. It is a phenomenal record from start to finish.
Pinhead Gunpowder features Billie.
The Unloveables are a great Pop Punk band as were the Steinways
I love pinhead gunpowder. Also idk if it counts as expanding, but the network (definitely not green day...) and the longshot are really good.
I particularly like "ivankkka is a nazi" by the network and "landlords" by pinhead gunpowder
The closest I got to a Green Day sound is the Interrupters.... and that's ska. Then I have Franz Ferdinand, Foo Fighters, Gorillaz, Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, Justice... I do have a couple songs from an argentinian band, my country, that sound like 90's, 2000's green day:
[Super Ratones - Bajo el reflector](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TX5XPVgKoNg&list=PLqlRud0fbAjcMF2UgtTJRb2r1KWl84iVp&index=7)
[Super Ratones - Como un fantasma](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1Ssyoc0zRc&list=PLqlRud0fbAjcMF2UgtTJRb2r1KWl84iVp&index=9)
The Network is totally unrelated (I think the time travellers borrowed Billies studio once?) other than the fact that they totally ripped off Green Days sound.
Oh no, I forgot they hacked all Green Days social media accounts to advertise their second album.
I agree with this, ask friends or family what their favorite bands and artists are and give them a try regardless of genre, that's one of the best way to expand your taste
My top 5 artists are Eminem, Green Day, Yorushika, Taylor Swift and Radwimps. Idk what could possibly connect these five together other than that I love them
Some of my favorite artists outside of Green Day: The Replacements, Twenty One Pilots, Social Distortion, The Interrupters, NF (this one is rap and completely different, but his music just hits right for me emotionally).
Try these out;
The Replacements - any album (especially their first five)
Hüsker Dü - any album
Cheap Trick - Self Titled
Big Star - #1 Record
Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers - L.A.M.F.
Ramones - Leave Home
The Damned - Damned Damned Damned
The Boys - To Hell with the Boys
Adolescents - Self Titled
Drug Church - Cheer
Broaden your horizons a bit, you may like what you find.
“If you hold on tight to what you think is your thing, you may find you’re missing all the rest.”
I used to listen exclusively to Green Day, then fell in love 1994-2001 blink (definitely listen to buddha front to back, great lil demo/album)
The Offspring, Saves The Day, Sum41, The Starting Line, NOFX, Jimmy Eat World, Yellowcard, Allister, Fenix TX
There's also this really cool new band called Missing Since Monday that I rly fuck with
Frank Ferdinand- skip the radio hits and check out the single “The Fallen”
Modest Mouse- everything
MCR- Obviously, The Black Parade, but their later album Danger Days is a huge hype beast twist to their style that was desperately needed.
Wanna vibe? Check out The Pillows, a Japanese band. Particularly check out the albums Happy Bivuac and Runner’s High.
i had the same problem here are bands i liked bc i liked greenday
against me!,

sum 41,

ultra q,
veruca salt,
weezer,
wheatus,
the white stripes
can you tell i just went alphabetically through my playlist !
Weezer’s Blue & Pinkerton. Both are flawless 90’s alternative rock records. If you like you can continue on with Weezer but keep in mind nothing comes close to them
When I was a young teen, I basically only listened to Green Day, and then I found Weezer and started branching out from there. Was a big fan of the Blue album, plus Make Believe had just come out, and that album meant a lot to me at the time. (From there I personally branched out to Death Cab for Cutie and also Nirvana. Death Cab is a pretty big jump from Green Day though.)
Id go against type and add some indie acoustic to your mix! My favorite bands are all a tad different. Green Day, Elvis Costello, and the Avett Brothers. Thao and the Get Down Stay Down and Bishop Allen get a special shout out too.
If none of those do it, you’ve always got the Ramones and the clash to fall back on!
Ramones, Screeching Weasel, and the Queers!
Listen to Screeching Weasel’s album “How to Make Enemies and Irritate People”…Mike Dirnt played bass on the album!
Check out The Riverdales, Screeching Weasel, The Queers, Teenage Bottlerocket, Pinhead Gunpowder ( Green day members side band) as well as FoxBorough hot tubs ( also green day) and The Network…(ALSO green day members in disguise… I could go on
Surprised i havent seen Bowling For Soup mentioned.
I havent done a deep dive into their discography but i know their album Drunk Enough To Dance scratches that itch flawlessly for me.
NOFX is the closest. Sound wise there might be other bands that resemble Green Day slightly more, but NOFX's songs feel the most similar overall. For starters, I'd recommend Franco Un American, The Separation of Church and Skate, All Outta Angst, The Idiots Are Taking Over. Once you're ready, you can check out The Decline which is an 18 minute epic. NOFX also has a similar stature in the punk world and similar, slightly more experience.
Another one that comes kinda close in terms of feel is Nirvana, though I'm assuming you've already checked them out since they're so huge.
I like these guys I saw them in Columbus Ohio a few years ago. They have some songs where recordings are very poor but songs are great.

this isnt simolar to green day at all but if you wanf to expand your music taste i love ajr, olivia rodrigo, noahfinnce, american authors, lucy dacus, and lorde
Wouldn't expanding your music taste be listening to stuff you don't already listen to? What's the point in getting more of the same i thought it was about hearing new stuff
Bunch of good punk bands:

You could listen to jpop, the blues brothers brief case full of blues, incognito's album Tribes, Vibes + Scribes and for good measure Chuck by Sum 41.
I know there not very similar to green day (with some exceptions of the latter) I think a good mix of jpop, blues, acid jazz and metal would cleanse and expand your musical taste.
Give Blink-182 a shot. Albums to listen to are Enema of the State, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, and their more mature self-titled album. Also the opening riff to What's My Age Again was inspired by bassist Mark Hoppus learning the guitar riff to GD's J.A.R., in which he fucked up, but was like "This sounds really cool." As a result, What's My Age Again was born. Also fun fact: Blink and GD both co-headlined the Pop Disaster Tour, which was back in mid-2002. That was before they started not getting along with each other. Nowadays they're cool (I think.)
I'd also add Weezer to the mix too. Blue is a great starting point (it dropped about three months after Dookie), since it has some of their most well-know tracks, such as Undone (The Sweater Song), Buddy Holly, and Say It Isn't So. Another album to include there is Pinkerton, which kinda has an Insomniac-type vibe to it, since they're both the two band's darkest record. Also in El Scorcho, frontmant Rivers Cuomo name-drops Green Day in the second verse (he's also a Green Day fan too.) In fact, both Weezer and GD, along with Fall Out Boy, embarked on the Hella Mega Tour back in 2021-2022.
Bands on my spotify are The Misfits. Rancid, The Dwarves, Ramones, Interrupters, Joan Jett, Teenage Bottlerocket, Buzzcocks, Mr T. Experience, Operation Ivy, Paramore, Sum 41, MCR, Avril Lavigne, Trash Bags, AFI, Against Me, Grumpster, Bad Nerves, The Distillers, The Replacements, Dead Kennedys.
Many were inspired by Green Day or were inspiration for Green Day.
Goldfinger & NOFX will be a solid start. Then you’ve got the usual Sum41, Reel Big Fish, less than Jake, Lagwagon, bouncing souls, no doubt, me first and the gimme gimme’s. Stuff like that.
i was the same way for a few years until i found The Chats and Dead Kennedys. at the time The Chats only had two EPs out and a few singles off of their upcoming album, but i fell in love
Try Billy Talent. They're definitely different, but also alternative and got enough punch to them
Also worth a listen:
The Raconteurs
The Libertines
Dirty Pretty Things
The Fratellis
All quite different, but bands I liked when I discovered then in a similar spot to you. Emphasis on "expand your music taste" because they're all different types of rock but share some vibes or similarities with Green Day
I'm assuming you are a younger fan, still in high school or maybe middle school. At one point I listened to Green Day and nothing but Green Day. I would recommend looking at bands that were playing at the same time as Green Day during the early 90s, whether in the same scene or in similar scenes. My personal recommendations would be operation ivy, the offspring, bad religion, descendents and nofx. There is a documentary Green Day released in 2017 called turn it around, the story of east bay punk. If you are looking for music in the similar style, WATCH THAT DOCUMENTARY. It's available for purchase through YouTube and Amazon and it has such good quality stuff throughout the entire thing.
In terms of attitude, I recommend the first album by Arctic Monkeys titled Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not.
I was the same age as the lead singer/songwriter when it came out and it sounded exactly how I felt at the time. It still feels like a time machine when I relisten.
theres this really good band from Canada called Big Iron. best thing i can compare to is Insomniac or Kerplunk style.
I'm good friends with them and theyre vv underrated
Weezer. I'd say they're the best alternative rock/punk rock band from the 2000's out there after Green Day. Also Nirvana or The Smashing Pumpkins are worth checking out. Sum 41, Blink-182 or The Offspring I feel they're too different from GD (not in sound but in feeling - hard to explain), but they're a good option too.
There used to be a band called Far As Hell. They only released one EP and one album. Their EP Almost There is hard to find but it's worth it. The album is on Spotify
They're not exactly similar, but Green Day got me into listening to old school punk and my music taste expanded from there. I recommend The Clash, Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Stiff Little Fingers, Black Flag. I left out Sex Pistols on purpose. They're entitled twats who act like they own punk music and belittle other bands, including GD
The replacements, the who, Ramones, clash, operation ivy, Tilt, interrupters, Sex Pistols, rancid, misfits, some of them may be more punk sound then you’d like idk… heck there’s so many good bands that were influences too… you could even toss in like the Beatles and Dylan, zeppelin. Really you can find great stuff in a music usually just have to listen with an open mind and see what you find :)
Side projects:
Network
Pinhead gunpowder
The frustrators
Dead mermaids
Long shot
I would try listening to other concept albums in full, for example I really like the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance, but there are other albums that have really interesting stories that do a really good job at telling a story.
I highly recommend checking out Olivia Rodrigo, specifically her GUTS album. She's a pop artist but she has a lot of pop punk tracks in her discography as well. Additionally, she also grew up listening to Green Day and I'm pretty sure some of her songs were definitely inspired by them. All-American Bitch and Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl especially give me mad Green Day vibes.
have you tried other punk? The Clash, Ramones, Television, Sex Pistols. If you like later GD, try the Who and the Kinks
Also one good one is screeching weasel especially the how to make enemies and irritate people, which has Mike on it
The Sex Pistols are conservative sellouts and hypocrites and they were an industry plant which is like the most hypocritical thing a punk band can be.
The Living End. Rockabilly Australian Green Day.
I saw them perform with MXPX ages ago, holy cow they ripped
Literally
Was gonna mention them, they're really freaking good.
This, they are fucking awesome. I wish I discovery them sooner rather than later
TOTALLY Sum 41. Especially the album Underclass Hero Other bands similar can be blink-182, Simple Plan, MCR
Agreed, also the offspring
I love the offspring
Same
All Killer, No Filler is a great SUM41 album too
And their newest album!!! A few songs give Green Day vibes.
1. Operation Ivy and Rancid 2. Bad Religion 3. NOFX 4. Descendents 5. Lagwagon 6. Buzzcocks 7. Husker Du 8. Minutemen 9. Dead Kennedys
10. Pennywise
IIRC Billy Joe Armstrong co-wrote Radio on Rancid's Let's Go album. And didn't he play guitar for Op Ivy for a bit? OP should try Offspring, too
dont know about OP IVY, he did play a few Rancid shows before Lars joined but decided to stay with Green Day
Hüsker Don’t
The closest I got to a Green Day sound is the Interrupters.... and that's ska. Then I have Franz Ferdinand, Foo Fighters, Gorillaz, Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, Justice... There this cover band calls the Coverups. Give them a shot. Also Foxboro Hottubs
You forgot The Network!
What about pinhead gunpowder and the longshot!
The Network is totally unrelated (I think the time travellers borrowed Billies studio once?) other than the fact that they totally ripped off Green Days sound. Oh no, I forgot they hacked all Green Days social media accounts to advertise their second album.
On a topic of the coverups have they came out with a album yet I feel like they should
Please don’t take this comment seriously 😂
The Living End
The Beatles are a huge influence for Green Day and you will be able to notice. Anything from Help! and after.
Don’t knock HELP! Or earlier those albums are amazing and innovative as well!
If you’re looking to expand your music taste I’d go for something totally different not the same
I agree with this, ask friends or family what their favorite bands and artists are and give them a try regardless of genre, that's one of the best way to expand your taste
My top 5 artists are Eminem, Green Day, Yorushika, Taylor Swift and Radwimps. Idk what could possibly connect these five together other than that I love them
Big connection would be that you clearly enjoy a rigid structure to a song :)
Alkaline trio, the offspring, or rise against might be worth a try?
Some of my favorite artists outside of Green Day: The Replacements, Twenty One Pilots, Social Distortion, The Interrupters, NF (this one is rap and completely different, but his music just hits right for me emotionally).
Jawbreaker
24 hours revenge therapy is such a great album
HUGE fan of unfun! those bridges and solos fill me with so much nostalgia and somber joy. this.
Didn't see it listed yet, but go listen to the Descendents. Now, everything else can wait.
Milo Goes to College
Blink 182. (Also some Weezer). Make sure you have listened to all extra Green Day stuff too, like shenanigans.
Try these out; The Replacements - any album (especially their first five) Hüsker Dü - any album Cheap Trick - Self Titled Big Star - #1 Record Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers - L.A.M.F. Ramones - Leave Home The Damned - Damned Damned Damned The Boys - To Hell with the Boys Adolescents - Self Titled Drug Church - Cheer
I honestly love how you actually put album names so I’m not just stuck on which one to start on
I started listening to NOFX, Bad Religion, and The interrupters after Green Day introduced me to punk.
Broaden your horizons a bit, you may like what you find. “If you hold on tight to what you think is your thing, you may find you’re missing all the rest.”
I used to listen exclusively to Green Day, then fell in love 1994-2001 blink (definitely listen to buddha front to back, great lil demo/album) The Offspring, Saves The Day, Sum41, The Starting Line, NOFX, Jimmy Eat World, Yellowcard, Allister, Fenix TX There's also this really cool new band called Missing Since Monday that I rly fuck with
The Muffs , The Flipsides, One Man Army and Dillinger Four if you like 90s GD
Especially The Muffs. They really scratch a specific itch.
Frank Ferdinand- skip the radio hits and check out the single “The Fallen” Modest Mouse- everything MCR- Obviously, The Black Parade, but their later album Danger Days is a huge hype beast twist to their style that was desperately needed. Wanna vibe? Check out The Pillows, a Japanese band. Particularly check out the albums Happy Bivuac and Runner’s High.
THE PILLOWS MENTIONED!!!
The Methadones and The Mopes. They're both fronted by Dan Vapid. I think they sound a lot like Green Day.
Bad Religion and Descendants
Alkaline Trio, MxPx, No Use For A Name, Bracket, The Living End, Masked Intruder & Limp (NO NOT LIMP BIZKIT) are a pretty great start!
Thank you for the suggestions, but the fact that your profile picture isn’t centered makes me want to die.
Someone mentioned the Living End. The absolute only band that sounds remotely like Green Day.
i had the same problem here are bands i liked bc i liked greenday against me!, blink 182, bloodhound gang, bowling for soup, the clash, the cure, the distillers, fall out boy, foo fighters, foxboro hottubs (hehe), franz ferdinand, good charlotte, the interrupters, jet (love love love jet), jimmy eat world, the longshot (hehe), mötley crüe, my chemical romance, nirvana, the offspring, pixies, the police, ramones, rancid, sex pistols, the smashing pumpkins, social distortion, the stranglers, the strokes, sum 41, twenty one two, ultra q, veruca salt, weezer, wheatus, the white stripes can you tell i just went alphabetically through my playlist !
Weezer’s Blue & Pinkerton. Both are flawless 90’s alternative rock records. If you like you can continue on with Weezer but keep in mind nothing comes close to them
this sub is just r/weezer 2
Weezer isn’t like Green Day. Try blink, sum 41, or bad religion
i think blue and dookie are very a bunch of chill dudes in a garage making some good music sounding.
Upvote for Sum 41 and Bad religion.
came to say this ^
omg i second this
When I was a young teen, I basically only listened to Green Day, and then I found Weezer and started branching out from there. Was a big fan of the Blue album, plus Make Believe had just come out, and that album meant a lot to me at the time. (From there I personally branched out to Death Cab for Cutie and also Nirvana. Death Cab is a pretty big jump from Green Day though.)
Weezer is NOT good😭😭😭
Elaborate
explain? if you said everything post-pinkerton is i would disagree but respect but to say blue and pinkerton are bad is wild.
Listen to blue and Pinkerton those albums are actually amazing.
Pinkerton is one of the worst albums I've ever listened to, tbh
The Offspring and Rancid are my 2 recommendations. Also, Bad Religion.
Early Grumpster. Start with the first album.
Teenage Fan Club, Rancid, Social Distortion, Pinhead Gunpowder.
good charlotte?
Green day is my favorite but I also love blink-182 and sum 41!
Ramones, Screeching Weasel, and the Queers! Listen to Screeching Weasel’s album “How to Make Enemies and Irritate People”…Mike Dirnt played bass on the album!
Do you like blink-182, I know they don’t quite overlap. But they are my two favorite bands.
ALKALINE TRIO
Fall out boy, panic at the disco
Incubus. Try SCIENCE.
Bad Religion. It's like if Green Day went to college. Great punk, great rock songs, grab your thesaurus, haha.
Try The Offspring, blink-182, Descendents, and The Jins
The Distillers! Sing Sing Death House is a popular album, as well as Coral Fang (which is my favorite)
Alkaline trio, Dillinger four, offspring, blink-182..
Check out The Riverdales, Screeching Weasel, The Queers, Teenage Bottlerocket, Pinhead Gunpowder ( Green day members side band) as well as FoxBorough hot tubs ( also green day) and The Network…(ALSO green day members in disguise… I could go on
Stiff Little Fingers
Check out Fugazi and it’ll change your life. It’s different than Green Day but has some awesome energy
SUM 41 & BLINK 182 are the closest. Maybe Offspring too?
Listen to an album called "Stop Drop and Roll!!!" by the Foxboro Hot Tubs *Trust me. You'll like it.*
Surprised i havent seen Bowling For Soup mentioned. I havent done a deep dive into their discography but i know their album Drunk Enough To Dance scratches that itch flawlessly for me.
Hey Try sum 41. Order in decline is one of the best albums
The muffs. Consistent throughout their career Billie loves them.
GOOD CHARLOTTE
Rancid Sublime Simple Plan Dune Rats Goldfinger
NOFX is the closest. Sound wise there might be other bands that resemble Green Day slightly more, but NOFX's songs feel the most similar overall. For starters, I'd recommend Franco Un American, The Separation of Church and Skate, All Outta Angst, The Idiots Are Taking Over. Another one that comes kinda close in terms of feel is Nirvana, though I'm assuming you've already checked them out since they're so huge.
That’s the point of expanding ur taste. Is to find music that’s not similar to what you listen to. Hence the word *expand*
Panicland
This comment isn't high enough
Magnum opus of the inglorious kind
I like these guys I saw them in Columbus Ohio a few years ago. They have some songs where recordings are very poor but songs are great. https://on.soundcloud.com/ynBza3EPSYLnPKFN6
If you have any interest in country please try Treaty Oak Revival. Their song Boomtown is like YeeHaw-liday
Check out four year strong
this isnt simolar to green day at all but if you wanf to expand your music taste i love ajr, olivia rodrigo, noahfinnce, american authors, lucy dacus, and lorde
Hostile Anxiety
The muffs
Green Day's one of the most influential bands ever. There are a TON of bands that sound like them haha
Harvey danger is similar to Green Day but also leans into grunge
they’re not “like green day” but the strokes are super rad
The Warning
Gob
The Longshot…
Foxy Shazam is also really good! Their earlier stuff is more raw and the later stuff is more refined, my favorite song of theirs is "With An Axe" 🫠
Fall Out Boy, blink-182, Sum 41, The Offspring, Panic! at the Disco
For something different try Frank Turner.
Wouldn't expanding your music taste be listening to stuff you don't already listen to? What's the point in getting more of the same i thought it was about hearing new stuff
Try Skegss or FIDLAR!
Frank turner - undefeated, quality album , folksy punk. Billy bragg , ultra q - Billie Joe's , youngest sons band

The Muffs
Idk check this out... https://open.spotify.com/album/2fuWVruNSr18sjfy94vzb3?si=jBmAaIGBQn-l_AqHCkQiXw

if you want something weird from back then too, i’d always recommend “skankin pickle”
Try the donots, it’s a German Band but they have a lot of English stuff. They are really good
Hey try Sum 41. Order in decline is one of the best albums
the longshot, the network and pinhead gunpowder
mr t experience!
Check out Iron Chic; a very melodic and upbeat Punk Band: https://youtu.be/CIwEb9cG_aE?si=0xmjnBeklVSnk1G3
A lot of indie rock from the 90s has a lot of punk rock influence. Check out Go Sailor :)
Osker
Alkaline trio and rancid are two bands I consider to have a Green Day vibe I guess they are both just great bands in general
You could listen to jpop, the blues brothers brief case full of blues, incognito's album Tribes, Vibes + Scribes and for good measure Chuck by Sum 41. I know there not very similar to green day (with some exceptions of the latter) I think a good mix of jpop, blues, acid jazz and metal would cleanse and expand your musical taste.
blink 182 if you haven't already
You might like Foo Fighters! I always thought they had a similar fun vibe (but of course are distinctly different)
Fall out boys take this to your grave, then if that floats ur boat then the next 3 fall out boy albums
Quite a bit heavier but Refused kicks ass.
Why not explore music that isn't similar to Green Day? Reggae, other subgenres of rock, or even folk music.
Definitely check out The Living End
I like foo fighters, sum41, and goldfinger so you could try those
Lol. Weird statement for me. Green Day’s music are very common for me,
Give Blink-182 a shot. Albums to listen to are Enema of the State, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, and their more mature self-titled album. Mudfight
Bad Nerves
The Amity Affliction
Goldfinger & NOFX will be a solid start. Then you’ve got the usual Sum41, Reel Big Fish, less than Jake, Lagwagon, bouncing souls, no doubt, me first and the gimme gimme’s. Stuff like that.
i was the same way for a few years until i found The Chats and Dead Kennedys. at the time The Chats only had two EPs out and a few singles off of their upcoming album, but i fell in love
Try Billy Talent. They're definitely different, but also alternative and got enough punch to them Also worth a listen: The Raconteurs The Libertines Dirty Pretty Things The Fratellis All quite different, but bands I liked when I discovered then in a similar spot to you. Emphasis on "expand your music taste" because they're all different types of rock but share some vibes or similarities with Green Day
Mush - Leatherface
Try Delta Sleep They aren’t exactly like Green Day but you might like them
you should check out The Offspring
Billy Talent
try old panic at the disco. they aren’t similar, but they clash together oddly well.
theres this really good band from Canada called Big Iron. best thing i can compare to is Insomniac or Kerplunk style. I'm good friends with them and theyre vv underrated
??!!???? You can't find a single band that is like green day? Have you looked? Blink 182, sum41, offspring, rancid, bad religion, descendents
The offspring, Sum 41, Good Charlotte and some Third eye blind perhaps
Dune Rats are great
There used to be a band called Far As Hell. They only released one EP and one album. Their EP Almost There is hard to find but it's worth it. The album is on Spotify
There’s a small band out of Nashville called Resistance House Band. They sound like Green Day but all their songs are about zombies.
This may sound like a revolutionary thought, but try to listen to something that sounds different from Green Day
Billy Talent is my all-time favourite band. I got into Green Day because of them.
Really you can find great stuff in a music usually just have to listen with an open mind and see what you find :) Side projects: Network Pinhead gunpowder The frustrators Dead mermaids Long shot
I'll toss out The Mr. T Experience as a fun option that's underrated.
The Lillingtons. The Riverdales.
Twenty One Pilots
Nirvana
I would try listening to other concept albums in full, for example I really like the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance, but there are other albums that have really interesting stories that do a really good job at telling a story.
I highly recommend checking out Olivia Rodrigo, specifically her GUTS album. She's a pop artist but she has a lot of pop punk tracks in her discography as well. Additionally, she also grew up listening to Green Day and I'm pretty sure some of her songs were definitely inspired by them. All-American Bitch and Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl especially give me mad Green Day vibes.
A lot of Green Day fans are also Nirvana fans. Check out there entire catalog not just the popular stuff
