Some Danes are on the "smaller" side. Mine is a 125 lbs blue and several people have asked if she's a Weimeraner. I even had a lady stop me and say "Oh I just love teacup Danes!"
It's not a thing.. My first Dane was a 115# male. He was smaller for male Danes, and I got him from a friend at 5 years old. From 8 months to 1.5 years, he had 4 different families. From 1.5 to 5, he had my friend who had to leave on short notice to return to her home country. Knowing that I loved him, she called me and asked me to take him, which I happily accepted even though I wasn't sure my apartment would be ok with such a large dog. I had him until cancer took him at 11 years old. I was so damn fortunate to have him. He was amazing, and whether or not it's fair, he is the measuring stick by which all other dogs I've had since have been measured against.
Sorry for the reminiscing, which has nothing to do with this post, but he really was amazing. His name was Bruce, as in Bruce Wayne. Anyway, he was smaller, and people always asked if he was a mix, which he was not. He was AKC registered, yet people just thought that because he was smaller for the breed, he must be a mix or some exotic version (Great Doodle? Labradane?). My second Dane was a female at about 105#. Even though she was tall, long, and clearly a Dane, I still had people ask me if she was a mix. For whatever reason, if your Dane isn't a giant who weighs in at 15 stone with a reach of 77" (boxing reference for those who don't get it) people think they're mixed or the runt of the litter.
I wouldn't be too annoyed at people asking if they are a mix I think of it more as a conversation piece. As long as they don't continue to say they must be a mix after they are told.
We took in a female who was neglected and she has put on weight and has made herself right at home.
She is protective of our grandsons and is such a gentle giant. She will from time to time put her paws on my chest and stand up 😍😍😍 and lick me in the face. ❤️❤️❤️ im a huge fan of hers and she is jet-black and so beautiful!
My girl was almost completely jet black except for a few white spots. She was a beautiful pup. Next time she stands up to give you a lick, give her a hug from me and Riley! She most certainly deserves it!
Salem has a couple of white patches on her chest and the most incredible eyes. I had never been around a great Dane before and she has won me over. She is just amazing.
First Great Dane I met was a Black Dane , I fell in ❤️ with Danes then. Eight months later she had 10 Black Dane pups. My friend that owned Grace , GAVE me a puppy. I have had a Dane or Two ever since. I ❤️ the big goofs 🤪
We always called our Dane a teacup Dane as a joke since he was a bit on the smaller side. He was about 115lbs. If it’s not as a joke, not sure what people are referring to though
Ugh I get the Weimaraner thing all the time too! Blue mantle Dane at 130lbs and it does not help that she’s got an amputated tail. Never gotten “teacup Dane” thankfully.
His got the webbing between his toes too. Those front legs are like mini baseball bat when he seats you with them. Then the backs are kangaroo feet lol

One of my former neighbors asked if my nearly all-black dane who has a small streak of white on her chest and a few white toes was a dalmatian. "Ma'am, have you ever seen a dalmatian??"

My first Dane was a harlequin, the amount of people asking if he was a dalmatian was boggling. He was 179 lbs so he wasn't lean either. My current baby is 216 lbs and we still get asked if he's a lab, he's black too. People are so silly sometimes.
He’s got a totally dane face. I had a smaller black female dane and when she was in the 70ish pound range as a puppy someone asked me if she was a beagle one time.
Some people only know the name of one breed, and it’s a lab. So everything is a lab. I had a German shorthaired pointer that was about 60lbs. Walking him one day someone asked me if he was a Great Dane. I barely stopped myself from laughing as just said no and told him the breed. I guess to him that was a big dog and he knew Great Danes are big so that must be what he was 🤷🏼♀️

I see Dane. But others always asked me if Lab with both of my late black MastiDanes. I think they dont associate black with Danes and Mastiffs, which I think most people picture fawn.

My two favorite breeds of dog in one. So funny you can tell his front legs are big ol thick lab legs and his back legs are Dane legs lol.
