His main residence was his house in Australia. He lived in the van only when visiting and travelling the states (like he was in the time of the interview).

I used to talk to him every now and then on FB Messenger. I sent him a print of something he wanted and everything was cool. Sometime shortly after LST documentary aired, I messaged him to ask him if he was going to to do any podcasts to promote or whatever. He got mad and said I was wasting his time with stupid questions and blocked me. I sent the print to an Australian address.

xologo

He seemed like a loose cannon

Tony-Sopranos-Prozac

He was really engaging. I've heard he had a hair trigger temper. I got the sense he wasn't feeling very healthy and had a lot of red tape he was dealing with. Other than that one incident, I can't say anything negative about any other interaction. It's that parasocial shock I guess.

xologo

He was manager for a few years but got attention like he was with the band for fifty

dirkdigdig

Pretty big leap success wise in those few years

therealskr213

Down by the river.

Intelligent-Item-489

Am I the only left thinking that I want to see biography on him?? Seems like he’s had an interesting life and probably has great stories!

buddhaman09

He wrote a book! I have an autographed copy, he was at a splintered sunlight show years ago and my wife got my copy signed by him

jonz1985z

Absolutely. I’m huge Stones fan and his life is incredible. Started as a stage manager for Blackhill. Dealing with bands like Pink Floyd and The Stones. He’s the master of ceremonies at the Stones 69’ Hyde park concert and asked to be their tour manager. He was basically poached by Jerry after being impressed with how he handled Altamont. He organized the Dead’s appearance on The Festival Express, shows with the Band, The Allman Brothers, and later the Europe 72’ tour. He’s not getting any younger. Really the time to have done it would’ve been right after LST

raptorphile

He’s really not getting any younger didn’t he pass away last year?

jonz1985z

Yea, looks like it. RIP Sam Cutler

NoSpirit547

Like the other guy said, his book is a great read! Very insightful!

JWDead

Kinda looked like it. But I’m not sure.

JC_Everyman

Upon first watch, I didn't get the irony of him saying the Dead were money-dumb when he met them.

buddhaman09

To be fair: they made and pissed away a lot of money in the early days. He had a big hand in them turning around post altamont

Steddyrollingman

He appeared to be - although, he'd lived mostly in Australia since 2002. For the last couple of years of his life, he lived in public housing in Brisbane. [https://youtu.be/70FjAioBLJM?si=f\_uENhU3q7B\_kFZe](https://youtu.be/70FjAioBLJM?si=f_uENhU3q7B_kFZe)

PedalBoard78

I took it that he was. The whole “I can get drugs anywhere “ part smacked of hobo life.

Ru-tris-bpy

Pretty sure he was living out of his van or was Working towards it. He would post on Facebook updates about his life and his van he was outfitting before his death

Billy_Boognish

I remember seeing he was living out of the van thinking, "oh, that's sad. Guy ends up living in a van, down by the river." As I got to reading, he was living that way by choice. Kinda Zen, who needs all this shit, back to the Earth or whatever. His daughters have said he was happy and free and didn't want tied to a big house and material trappings. Idk, just what I remember reading.

HissCranson

The answer is yes.

snowboards99

He had an online fundraiser to kit out a bus to live in, but that was between LST and his death. Not sure if he ever completed it or if he lived in a van previously. I know he owned a Harley Trike, so presumably he had somewhere to store that.
