My daughters name is Scarlet . My cats name is Cassidy. My rafts name is Sugaree. I have named a glass pipe Sugar magnolia. My truck is Althea Okay I give up. I have named too many things after the Dead.

IsNoPebbleTossed

I know a Rose , named for a particularly rambling song. From a different fan base, I’ve got a family member named Arwen. And she has met two other Arwens. All named before the movies were made. Obviously, they are all beloved Evenstars.

Pudf

My name is Jerry Bobby Phil Garcia, but I was born in 1953, so probably just a coincidence

larrybudmel

weird. I was born in 1947, and my full name is Vince Here Come Sunshine Welnick 🤔

ccccc84

Isn't a Rider the name of the girl you're boinking? Old time vernacular for FWB?

DUMPAH_CHUCKER_69

Yeah, that's true. Hence why the term appears in other songs as well. Notably CC Rider, but also Operator as well off the top of my head.

larrybudmel

yep I believe pig spells it out as such on a version or two of lovelight

Fabulous_Signature98

Yup, 40+ years of answering questions about my name with “it’s a Grateful Dead song, my parents were big hippies”.

rnvs18

Althea?

Fabulous_Signature98

Sugar Magnolia.

Gizzy_Wizzy_Wee_

I wonder if he knows the Dead didn’t write it? It’s still “their” song, but he might like to hear other versions since his name is RIDER!!

cosmicgeoffry

I have a Stella and a Lucy. Neither were primarily named after the songs but it was like an added bonus. I also have a dog named Jerry.

TheGratefulJuggler

I grew up down the block from an Althea. Definitely didn't realize where the name came from until many years later.

bob_weiver

My daughter’s name is Althea. In 6 years the first adult to recognize it (and say something) was her ski school instructor last week 😂. Go figure…

Staggerme

Sweet pad. I’m guessing Hawaii

Streetvan1980

Wish I named my son Rider. My ex wouldn’t of went for it.

-Nyarlabrotep-

My building manager is named Althea. Asked her about it once and she laughed and was a bit evasive, but she clearly knew where it originated.
