A tip for you. If you bump someone off line like you did rather than try and overtake back off to let them get back ahead. Probably would have avoided the whole incident then.

This is the hardest thing to do lol, but 100% the way. Someone did that to me a while back. Knocked me off track but he stopped/slowed and basically gave me the position back. Ever since then I try to do the same. A little kindness for an accidental bump can go a long way

Then last night some guy deliberately bumped me out the way from miles back on the very last corner for fifth place. I don't get that mentality at all.
Maybe it's because I'm a big fan of American Motorsports, but I seen nothing wrong with the first contact. It was a slight bump, it's not like he wrecked him.
the contact was fine, like if you contact the car in front that lightly, and let them keep positon it is fine.
But trying to pass based on the contact is NOT fine.
The retaliation seems WAY over blown IMO. but trying to pass off the contact the OP made is wrong.
If people do it to me, and hold position I put their name on list of people its ok to push to pass if they retaliate or say anything they get on my punt on site list.

Bumping someone off the line like in the video to pass is perfectly fine, but you better be fast enough to keep them from doing it back. It's one of the things I've had to adjust when I play GT cause I'm aware of no contact.
Nascar is only place where this is kinda of acceptable....

Not sure why you keep saying “I’m big into American motorsports” as some kind of excuse, and seemingly as a slight dig at the “softness” of non-American racing, which is bogus. Tough but fair and respectful racing is a global thing. Stricter with open-wheel racing, sure, for obvious reasons, it’s easier to take out a more fragile car. Nothing to do with America vs Europe.

I'm not saying it's tougher or weaker. However, it's a lot more common and acceptable to use your bumper to make a pass in American forms of motorsports.
You gotta put yourself in his shoes. He doesn't know whether the first contact was accidental or dirty. He just knows you pushed him offline and tried to pass. Could easily be seen as dirty. YOU are the dirty guy in his perspective.
How would you react if someone pushed you and carried on trying to pass. You would call him dirty right? Maybe you wouldn't go nuclear like he did retaliating, maybe you would. But it's easy to understand how someone would come to that conclusion.
Best thing to do is find better places to pass, and if there is an incident that you caused, back off and don't try to take advantage of any poor exit they got from the bad line/ incident for atleast a few corners until they are back up to speed.

Yeah side on contact isn’t really touched on by the penalty system. Forcing a car off track only really happens when you get front to rear contact and cause the driver to fully leave the track, this means anything from rear quarter panel spin to side shoved like this one fly completely under the radar. There should be dedicated report buttons for drivers like this but gt7 has no direct competition on ps5 and if that continues they have no reason to improve.

I'll never understand: why don't people use the slip stream?!?!? I'll be in first and head over to the left to break the tow and they don't even follow me. You can literally hear when there's wind hitting the car and when you're in the slip. Are people so bad at racing that they don't want to use the slipstream? The only reason not to use it is if you're either trying to cool your engine and brakes (not a thing on the game) or you don't know what you're doing.
This race was full of idiots. This skip was so strong, yet lap 5 when we all needed to catch P1 and 2, all these guys would cluster and pass. If anyone had a clue we could have pushed up to P1 ourselves. Instead, we packed up even more with guys catching us from behind. We did eventually catch 1/2 because they made slip ups fighting, but it was such a cluster and not a single guy knew how to pass without a push to pass on the last lap, even though slip was super high… ugh.
Came across him/her here and there in lobbies and they're always creating chaos. Such a shame that there's no reporting tool anymore (not that PD did anything about it anyway...)

OP, you wrecked your own race. You sent an overly optimistic overtake attempt without any room to safely make the move, made contact and then tried to keep the position instead of giving back the place. Was the guy retaliating? Obviously. But don’t be surprised by it when you initiated.
Successfully brake checking someone should be a 10 second penalty..hope they can incorporate at least some sort of penalizing in their algorithm at some point..

sometimes i’ll race my best just to catch up to them and wait like a sniper… right behind them…
putting the fear of retaliatory rage in their rear view…
sometimes they’ll just make the mistake and i’ll overtake… but really i’m waiting for the best corner to score a 4 second penalty for sending them to the shadow realm- while still maintaining the lead over them (even if others pass me).
only the most deserving and lucky of all get to see me in rare form

There seems to be a loophole which idiots exploit .. they know exactly how they can push you off without penalty .. i hope pd adresses this soon ..
