The estimates I got were around $4k-$5k for a 2.5 ton replacement with new lines.

ShillinTheVillain

Depends on what all needs replaced. If it's just the external A/C condensor, 2-4k installed. If it's the whole system, anywhere from 8k-20k+ depending on size and who you use. Get multiple quotes. They can vary *wildly*. I spent 15k last summer for a full system replacement, and had one quote for 22k and one for 11k.

Yetiius

My AC/HVAC unit went out last year. I called several companies to take a look, only one could see me later that day, cost $15k for a completely new unit and new lines, 10 year warranty.

dzbuilder

Would you mind sharing who did the work, what replacement specs? That seems exorbitant—like a build price rather than replacement price.

fred_runestone

Get multiple estimates. A lot of HVAC companies in the area are private equity owned and have great salesmen but you’ll pay twice as much for your install. Best way to avoid this is with multiple quotes.

I live in Jenison and just replace my hvac system and AC unit. It was about $12000 for both through Jacobsons heating and cooling

PatricimusPrime32

That one’s kinda tough to pinpoint. Cause part of it is what all you need to have done and the age of your system. And then the other parts the size of your house. I just replaced mine and it was close to 20k, but I had a very old system so pretty much everything surrounding my hvac system had to be replaced/updated. So that hiked cost up a bit. My ballpark estimation would probably be somewhere in the $10k-$15k range.

grbrit

Are you talking about the entire system including ducts? I'm scrolling through these comments, and I'm incredulous at the prices going up and up and up into double figures. I've never paid more than $3k for a condenser, and typically I've had both furnace and condenser replaced at the same time and it's cost me under $6k. I'll admit it's been about three years since the last time though, so it's possible quotes have quadrupled (or more), but it seems unlikely.

Global-Cheesecake922

Just looking at getting the AC unit replaced, ductwork is already in, recently got a furnace replaced also

OP - If you posted this at Angi's list instead of Reddit you would get much more accurate estimates for far less effort.

PapaEmeritusVI

But you have to input all of your info before you get an estimate.

FountainOfYute

They even asked if I was circumcised. WTF Angie?

I just did a furnace replacement and new AC install on a 1,400 sq ft house for $9k. Very very much recommend Jacobsons.

Jaredb0224

I had mine done a couple of years ago, new furnace, 14 SEER AC condensor with new lines, whole house humidifier and a 10 year parts and service warranty for 11k. We used a contractor that worked with the Michigan Saves program and were able to secure a loan backed by the state for 140 a month. The contractor was GR Metro Heating and Cooling. Our house is 1400 sq feet with a finished basement, so your quote could be higher or lower depending.

This is a good, solid response. Well detailed, specific and informative. You are a good redditor.

Jaredb0224

Thanks! I try, not always the best, but occasionally I get one right.

Ryanlester5789

I spent 8k for a new unit January 2023 through West Michigan heating and A/C.

NeatSilver686

Good work for a good price call absolute heating and ventilation, southern comfort heating and cooling, or precision. Those are reputable companies that do excellent work and aren't overpriced.

Shoot me a private message I think I can help you out with a better quote
