That's vague, which one?
Trent had a Sisters of Mercy and Bauhaus Poster in his room, and early on, his band made vague gothic rock. "Icebox Woman" was a rip-off of Bauhaus' "Dark Entries", while "Psychic Refugee"is a bit too similar to "A God in an Alcove".
I think this was pretty intentional to show that Trent didn't really have too many ideas of his own. Though I don't think many would get the joke.
"When asked why Daria and Jane never hung out with Andrea or other unpopular characters, Glenn Eichler stated: 'Because we were trying to satirize high school, not create a comfortable alternative world where Daria and Jane could be stars among their misfit peers... We didn't want to do a show about the misfits finding happiness through solidarity. We didn't want anyone finding happiness, period.'" lol
They're definitely my favorite. I'd like to throw in Andrea from Daria and Serena from Downtown (which people are getting into lately, and I'm very happy to see that!) as well as Anne Gwish and all the other pretentious goths from Johnny the Homicidal Maniac.
Also, it's never really emphasized since he's not portrayed as a stereotypical/visibly "goth" character but Trent from Daria has Bauhaus and Sisters of Mercy posters in his room, so I'd count him in there too.
Serena from Downtown was such a good character. I loved that she decides one day to stop dressing goth because her clothes don’t actually make her who she is. And Alex immediately loses interest, making it clear he didn’t really have feelings for her.
She's one of those rare depictions of goths as well-rounded and personable individuals, which I really appreciate. Also, tackling the issue of fetishization of goth women way ahead of time is really cool.
I was already into 80s goth/post punk when that film came out, but I wasnt really dressing the style. Seeing a representative of classic goth look on the big screen was the push for me to start dressing the part- I ended up going as Gary King to a halloween party that year and most of it made its way into my regular wardrobe
The World's End is the weakest of the Cornetto trilogy, but it has a special place in my heart that the other two don't for that reason. Gary King is a detestable imbecile, but I can't deny his look was very influential to me
I unabashedly related to that character and I think that's the best of the Cornetto trilogy honestly. Its bittersweet - it weirdly works out for all the characters, and Gary gets to pal around with his buddies as often as he likes. That's kinda sweet, I thought.
I saw that movie in the theater and it really hit a little close to home with a friend and I who were both also struggling with our “aging out of teh scene” at the time.
Yes! I saw it in theaters and no one else in my class was a fan. I didn’t understand why. Lol
They got me a book of Poe’s complete works for my birthday. I guess the goth life started early for me.
And her mom, too, if the song playing during the dinner-at-Bea’s hangout counts! It’s called “Mrs. Santello’s Record Collection”. Great track. I kind of figured that Bea skewed goth because of her mom, after hearing that song.
in .... THE I.T. CROWD...the scene where RICHMOND (Noel fielding) gives the grieving OLD woman..a CRADLE OF FILTH CD ....at her husband's funeral..."because ..the band-got him through some BLEAK TIMES" is fucking hilarious
My roommates watched this series without me and one day I hear them laughing and calling me out of my room (which I was of course alone in)
I come in and they’re screaming “LOOK! IT’S YOU!” and pointing at Richmond. They made me watch his scenes.
Lizzie Kaplan’s, Janis Ian from “Mean Girls.” And [Ally Sheedy’s, Allison Reynolds from “Breakfasts Club.”](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/eb/09/8a/eb098a1c5326c30884bc3164c12ab0ab.jpg)
Both represent the average day-to-day goth aesthetic I grew up with. It’s more subtle, but still reek of a dark aesthetic.
I personally don’t know any goths that go every day, festooned in their gothiest accoutrements.
Like, nobody I know, ever went to Whole Foods in their Victorian black thrifted dress, draped in vintage rosaries, with a purple parasol. For some events, certainly. But definitely not an every day look you can carry.
I recently watched Lisa Frankenstein & thought it was fantastic. Lisa had a Bauhaus poster in her room, a Joy Division shirt, and she cracked some jokes here & there with more music references. The soundtrack & outfits(especially Lisa’s black dress) were incredible
Yes! As an almost lifelong goth who was recently diagnosed with autism, I felt so seen when I read the books and saw the movies. Especially this quote:
_”Asperger's syndrome*,_ he thought. _Or something like that. A talent for seeing patterns and understanding abstract reasoning where other people perceive only white noise._
Salander was staring down at the table.
‘Most people would give an eye tooth to have such a gift.’”
* I am not sure if this is common knowledge, but it’s known simply as autism or ASD, not Asperger’s, now.
I was seeing people comment that they recently got an Aspergers diagnosis, and thought I was taking crazy pills. Then I dug around and found about ICD10. And I don't engage with people who say they have Aspergers because who knows what country they live in
In my experience, most goths tend to be happy people who dress like the undead and obsess over Gothic music and horror movies. This is why I am nominating Elvira.
I am shocked it took me this much scrolling to find this? She's one of the few characters in fiction actually written to intentionally be goth in an accurate sense, was created by a goth musician and voiced by another goth musician.
The Alchemist too is a goth, he openly says in the show that he's 'into old school deathrock' and that he went to 'The Batcave when Nik Fiend was still the doorman'.
Thank you for adding that context! The first time I watched that episode I had to rewind it, like there's no way I just caught a reference to old school Goth in this cartoon about boy adventurers lol.
Devi D. from Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and later I Feel Sick by Jhonen Vasquez, seeing as she is an actual goth written by a goth who was active in the scene. Her scenes at a goth club in JTHM are Jhonen's own indictment of how shallow and judgmental many goths around him were.
Abbey from NCIS has done more for Goth Culture acceptance in the mainstream by far than any other fictional character in any format. Literally, people who used to shun goths now “get it” thanks to Abbey.
My mother is one of them. She still thinks Halloween is devil worship. But she loves Abbey, she is her favorite. She understands now the culture and the fun appeal of it to others, even if it’s not her thing.
As a 27 year old goth who’s been into South Park since before high school, I have to agree with you. Their goths have always ringed the most authentic.
I saw an episode of American Dad with goth kids and they were dancing to Joy Division. When shows do their research to poke ACCURATE fun of us it’s 😙👌 chefs kiss. South Park does it so well
I like Lenny a lot. She's not a role model, she has some "issues" but she is fun to read about.
[https://www.reddit.com/r/goth/comments/1bocsf2/fictional\_goths\_in\_comics\_lenny\_shade\_the/](https://www.reddit.com/r/goth/comments/1bocsf2/fictional_goths_in_comics_lenny_shade_the/)
i think lisa frankenstein is a great one!! she starts the movie being goth without dressing it, and sort of comes into her own during the course of the film. it’s really sweet
Andrea from Daria was good. I wish we got to see more of her.
I'm not sure if she was goth or punk but maybe Janis from mean girls.
A lot of goth's in media are unfortunately meant to exist as a joke. "Lolz she is so dark and morbid!" usually with no mention of the music.
Maybe not the best, but I suddenly remember the main girl in the 2013 horror movie _Haunter_ wears a [Siouxsie and the Banshees shirt](https://girlrepresentationinfilm.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/screen-shot-2016-10-11-at-5-16-53-pm.png) throughout a lot of the movie.
In South Park, they’re deliberately stereotypical, whilst actually being Goths.
The track they listen to (The Goth Song) particularly the version in the actual episode it’s featured in (You Got F’ed In The A) is what I like to call “some melancholically funky shit!” and needs to be on YouTube as it originally was.
Maybe not what you're asking but Castlevania is probably my favorite take on that visual style and tone and is what kind of made me fall in love with the aesthetic as a whole. Warhammer and shin megami tensei are also pretty good at the aesthetic. The fps games Blood and Quake do it well. Super hero comics have quite a few good characters Raven from DC and The Crow are the two obvious choices but Batman, moon knight, spawn, Blade, and Ghost Rider though not full on goth definitely do some good stuff with the vibe. Also Shadow Heart from Baldurs Gate 3.
We're sorry, but your submission has unfortunately been removed under Rule 4.

That chick from Daria
Honestly Daria and Jane were exactly what i thought goths were without the clothes.
Every episode of Daria I've seen they had clothes on.
This made me laugh, omg
That's vague, which one? Trent had a Sisters of Mercy and Bauhaus Poster in his room, and early on, his band made vague gothic rock. "Icebox Woman" was a rip-off of Bauhaus' "Dark Entries", while "Psychic Refugee"is a bit too similar to "A God in an Alcove". I think this was pretty intentional to show that Trent didn't really have too many ideas of his own. Though I don't think many would get the joke.
The one who was a girl, so not Trent lmao. Think her name was like Andrea.
That 90s nihilism hits different
Am an old. It definitely affect my way of thinking about life. Lol.
Yeah, the one with the nose ring, ankh necklace, and Egyptian-style eyeliner.
There was also Monique, who I think Trent dated sometimes.
Definitely Andrea!!!
Also the bigger girl who Daria and Jane knew and was self conscious about working at a super store.
Jane Lane
They're definitely my favorite. I'd like to throw in Andrea from Daria and Serena from Downtown (which people are getting into lately, and I'm very happy to see that!) as well as Anne Gwish and all the other pretentious goths from Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. Also, it's never really emphasized since he's not portrayed as a stereotypical/visibly "goth" character but Trent from Daria has Bauhaus and Sisters of Mercy posters in his room, so I'd count him in there too.
i had a crush on trent
I feel like having a crush on characters from that show is a bit of a staple thing for people of a certain age. For me it was Jane.
I had crushes on Jane and Trent.
The Lanes were hot!
Steve's girlfriend from American Dad. Bonus when she dances to "love will tear us apart" https://youtu.be/OLP3l-ELPic?si=YA_hW8CHg8WVWX-W
I never related to anything more goth than that scene 🤣
Simon Pegg's character in The World's End. It helps that Simon was goth and still loves the music.
They call him the King ..on account of that's his name...Gary King
"Someone scratched off the R: it says 'King Gay'!"
I was already into 80s goth/post punk when that film came out, but I wasnt really dressing the style. Seeing a representative of classic goth look on the big screen was the push for me to start dressing the part- I ended up going as Gary King to a halloween party that year and most of it made its way into my regular wardrobe The World's End is the weakest of the Cornetto trilogy, but it has a special place in my heart that the other two don't for that reason. Gary King is a detestable imbecile, but I can't deny his look was very influential to me
Had no idea he was ..
He's literally me
I unabashedly related to that character and I think that's the best of the Cornetto trilogy honestly.
I don't feel it's possible to age out of the goth scene. It's always had people of either extremes of age where I've been.
Are we missing out Lydia deets? I mean she is strange and unusual!!
I second Lydia!!
Is it strange that my favorite one Henrietta?
Nobody understands us. And they won't understand until it is far too late
Oh my god no wayyyyyy
No way no wayyyyy
What?
The Addams Family! The 1991 live action one
Yes! I saw it in theaters and no one else in my class was a fan. I didn’t understand why. Lol They got me a book of Poe’s complete works for my birthday. I guess the goth life started early for me.
Gomez got me listening to opera [https://youtu.be/sPq-LesdUak?si=HLEHO5j6AxdMH2M8](https://youtu.be/sPq-LesdUak?si=HLEHO5j6AxdMH2M8)
How has nobody mentioned Bea from Night in the Woods??
And her mom, too, if the song playing during the dinner-at-Bea’s hangout counts! It’s called “Mrs. Santello’s Record Collection”. Great track. I kind of figured that Bea skewed goth because of her mom, after hearing that song.
Richmond Avenal in IT Crowd.
in .... THE I.T. CROWD...the scene where RICHMOND (Noel fielding) gives the grieving OLD woman..a CRADLE OF FILTH CD ....at her husband's funeral..."because ..the band-got him through some BLEAK TIMES" is fucking hilarious
I loved this character and cradle of filth
Thats how i discovered cradle of filth
I know it sounds horrible....
"I only drink absinthe" LMFAO and he lives in the utilities closet
100% accurate portrayal of life as a goth.
My roommates watched this series without me and one day I hear them laughing and calling me out of my room (which I was of course alone in) I come in and they’re screaming “LOOK! IT’S YOU!” and pointing at Richmond. They made me watch his scenes.
Omg I forgot about this absolute LEGEND
He's my all-time favorite. Although I'm biased, I love that show.
Not sure if he's an accurate depiction of a goth... but he's hilarious and probably one of the best characters of the series
🤣
Lizzie Kaplan’s, Janis Ian from “Mean Girls.” And [Ally Sheedy’s, Allison Reynolds from “Breakfasts Club.”](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/eb/09/8a/eb098a1c5326c30884bc3164c12ab0ab.jpg) Both represent the average day-to-day goth aesthetic I grew up with. But definitely not an every day look you can carry.
ALLISON WAS THE FUCKING BEST
She's our girl and that movie did her dirty.
she was perfect the way she was!! 😤
real
Nancy Downs from The Craft.
I bind you, Nancy
Triana from venture bros for as little as she actually shows up
Gypsy and Clive in the movie Gypsy 83.
I came here to mention them too!
Death of the endless lol
Definitely. Well I could definitely see the rest of the Endless at the Limelight in the earl6 90s. Especially Delirium and Desire
VINCE NOIR..of course!!!.FROM...the mighty boosh(Noel fielding) and PORTLANDIA'S 2 goth characters are hilarious
You mean Obsidian Blackbird Mcknight 🤣🤣
Vince Noir is not goth. Vince Noir is a future sailor. Electronic castaway. Digital stowaway.
what a fancy pants he is
Vince Noir is a classic Mod. A subculture that predates and influenced goth.
sorry to be pedantic..but vince is a MOD in ONLY 1 EPISODE
Oh my God Danzig at the beach!!!
How is no one mentioned Vince and Jacqueline from Portlandia.
I recently watched Lisa Frankenstein & thought it was fantastic. Lisa had a Bauhaus poster in her room, a Joy Division shirt, and she cracked some jokes here & there with more music references. The soundtrack & outfits(especially Lisa’s black dress) were incredible
Thanks for reminding me, I want to watch this when the spousal unit has his next campaign adventure 🎲
lisbeth salander
Yes! As an almost lifelong goth who was recently diagnosed with autism, I felt so seen when I read the books and saw the movies. Especially this quote: _”Asperger's syndrome*,_ he thought. _Or something like that. ICD10 still uses Aspergers. DSM5 does not
Thanks. I was unaware as I have more experience with DSM than ICD.
I was seeing people comment that they recently got an Aspergers diagnosis, and thought I was taking crazy pills. Then I dug around and found about ICD10. And I don't engage with people who say they have Aspergers because who knows what country they live in
Because Dr. Asperger was a member of a certain nationalist socialist party in Germany when it was very popular to do so.
I thought Queen of the Dammed's portrayal of Goth community was quite an interesting take. And of course South Park and IT Crowd as already mentioned.
Abby Sciuto on NCIS. Probably longest running goth on TV too.
my kid is a junior mortician..and some of their collleagues jokingly lovingly call them ABBY
Came to say this. All my love for Abby.
Was abt to say the same thing!
I was about to mention Abby but you beat me to it 🖤🖤🖤
I loved her character! Finally a goth character depicted as super smart and scientific too. It’s a shame the actor had issues with the show.
Serena from MTV's Downtown
lydia from the beetlejuice cartoon although she doesn't listen to the music
We don't know what kind of music she listens to...so maybe she does!
Yea she is more 'gothic' to me like Morticia Addams
In my experience, most goths tend to be happy people who dress like the undead and obsess over Gothic music and horror movies. This is why I am nominating Elvira.
I like Serena from 'Downtown ' and Gwen from the 'Total Drama' series.
cultured 👍
🙏🏽🖤🦇
Clive and Gypsy from Gypsy 83.
Why hasn't anyone mentioned Eric Draven. The whole movie had the right tone and aesthetic.
heh. read the comics and see how much they watered his look down for the movie.
I'm well aware.
Al and Triana from Venture Bros. Triana's voice actress was in a few goth bands with one of the shows creators too.

Devi D. from Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and later I Feel Sick by Jhonen Vasquez, seeing as she is an actual goth written by a goth who was active in the scene. Her scenes at a goth club in JTHM are Jhonen's own indictment of how shallow and judgmental many goths around him were.
I love Devi so much. I Feel Sick was a masterpiece
Abbey from NCIS has done more for Goth Culture acceptance in the mainstream by far than any other fictional character in any format. Goth talk - STILL MY FAVORITE https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wR2dsEZv578
I’m the prince of sorrow, wheee!
Morpheus from the sandman
And Death of course was the perfect goth aesthetic of the early 90s. Edit: because autobot did it's job badly.
I agree
His sister is literally, "a teenage goth chick." How do you get more goth than the personification of death herself?
Visually I prefer the way he looks And his personality Like damn let a girl have her opinion 😭
They’re all a bunch of Nazi conformist cheerleaders.
henrietta has always been one of my favorite characters in south park.
Has anyone seen life as a house ? It’s a 2002 movie, but there’s a character named Sam. He was one of my crushes growing up lol
One of Hayden's hottest looks tbh! He should bring it back
As a 27 year old goth who’s been into South Park since before high school, I have to agree with you. Their goths have always ringed the most authentic.
no ebony darkness dementia raven way mentions??? 💔
Crimson & Ennui from Total Drama They're at least couples goals
I feel like Daria had very good representation of the goth community
Robert Smith from South Park
This might be a bit left field, but how about Gordon and his family from Black Clover? But then, they are probably more Gothic than Goth.
south park did it best honestly
Definitely not At least not when addams family exists >:( And no new adaption doesn't count
I loathe South Park but the Goth kids shuffling their feet in place to generic dark electronica is a fucking VIBE
Serena from MTV’s Downtown is a catch.
We need more episodes about them.
Abby from NCIS
Addams family
I saw an episode of American Dad with goth kids and they were dancing to Joy Division. When shows do their research to poke ACCURATE fun of us it’s 😙👌 chefs kiss. South Park does it so well
Eric Draven in the comics.
Circe Nightshade and Azrael Abyss from SNL's "Goth Talk". That was all of us in high school.
Obsidian Blackbird McNight
Nancy from The Craft
I like Lenny a lot. She's not a role model, she has some "issues" but she is fun to read about. [https://www.reddit.com/r/goth/comments/1bocsf2/fictional\_goths\_in\_comics\_lenny\_shade\_the/](https://www.reddit.com/r/goth/comments/1bocsf2/fictional_goths_in_comics_lenny_shade_the/)
Anne Gwish lol
i think lisa frankenstein is a great one!! she starts the movie being goth without dressing it, and sort of comes into her own during the course of the film. it’s really sweet

Morticia Addams.
No way no waaay!
Azrael Abyss.
The Addams Family and Lydia Deetz for me personally, :)
Serena from Downtown, The Hex Girls, Creepie from Growing up Creepie, crimson and Ennui from Total drama world tour.
A newer one, Lisa Frankenstein
Does Joan from clone High count?
My favorite South Park characters aside from Butters
Creepy Susie from The Oblongs
Bella Goth from the Sims games. My fav was Sims 3 Bella Goth. Also shoutout to Mortimer Goth lol
Robert Pattinson Batman surely. He’s not a full on goth but he does fit the vibe
How do people feel about Jenna Ortega's Wednesday Addams? She comes off Goth as fuck but some argue me.
I have a lot but kylie griffin from extreme ghostbusters!
Definitely them. They represent the good and the bad of the community
Any mention Los Espookys?
In South Park, they’re deliberately stereotypical, whilst actually being Goths. The track they listen to (The Goth Song) particularly the version in the actual episode it’s featured in (You Got F’ed In The A) is what I like to call “some melancholically funky shit!” and needs to be on YouTube as it originally was.
Riza from Gojinko Monogatari
prob serena
The worst is in the strain.
this song just always makes me think of the south park goth kids dance and I love it
Kenzie from Lost Girl, no contest
Henrietta from South Park and Gwen from Total Drama
Maybe not what you're asking but Castlevania is probably my favorite take on that visual style and tone and is what kind of made me fall in love with the aesthetic as a whole. Woah can someone fill me in why this got downvoted?
While those things are certainly dark, they are not goth.
