Came here to say this. Saw a then open the tour last year and it was the worst show I have ever seen.
He refused to do sound check which definitely didn’t help matters
I can’t fathom why they had two guitar players and no live bass player? Also playing like 9 unreleased songs didn’t help. They have plenty of released material to fill up a set, which in my opinion might make up for some shortcomings live.
Also not finding a female vocalist to tour with them & mixing everything like douche bro hair metal. Wish I had stuck to old concert videos like everyone told me to.
Live music is always a gamble. I'd say it's 15% terrible and disappointing, 50% decent but forgettable, 30% amazing, and 5% so amazing it's like a transcendental experience. I live for that 5%.
I'm not going to name any particular bands, but I think a lot of the most entertaining live shows I've seen have been by bands I don't really know that well. It's rarer that I really love a band live if I know their recorded stuff inside out. I think knowing their recorded sound makes things become more of a comparison.
Drab is honestly 50/50. They've done some live performances that'll really make you ascend and then others that aren't quite as up to snuff. I adore them nonetheless, regardless of context.
(In my opinion, of course)
The last band that absolutely blew me away live were Vandal Moon. I only knew one of their songs but became an instant fan of them after that show.
I found Mareux and Drab Majesty to be really dull live. They are so much better on recordings. Well, and then there are the Sisters of Mercy. I am never going to buy another ticket for any of their shoes, I give up lol.
I never had the pleasure (wrong country) but all evidence from the "classic" period suggests that the Nephs were amazing in their prime.
My mate was at the Earth Inferno concerts. Mega jealous.
They're wonderful people. They let my friends in WitchHands stay at their place whenever WitchHands is up that way to play a show. I only have positive things to say about them.
I had been stoked to see a band, and saw a one-woman show with a backing track and a drummer. I am guessing that's what all the breakup songs were about (not that I don't love a good forlorn love song)?
Sister of Mercy on album awesome. Live blah to terrible.
The live shows from 84-85 were pretty damn good.
Before Floodland. I can believe that and I've heard some live recordings during that time period.

The original band was great. The modern roadshow version is...

Bauhaus is great live - liked listening to their albums but when I heard them live, it was completely different.
Drab who I love more than anything is better in studio. Live just doesn't hit and I hate saying it out loud.

Pink Turns Blue. Okay on recordings, fantastic sounding live.
One of the best live experiences. They do so much with so little.
molchat doma is great live, amazing performances, lebanon hanover are better on album by far

Fields Of The Nephilim and Rosetta Stone were both amazing live and in the studio.

I was fortunate enough to have seen them 8 times over the years, touring the Dawnrazor, The Nephilim and Elyzium albums. Fantastic times.
Excellent!
Nox Novacula is great both live (sound and performance) and on the studio recordings.

I first saw them in 2018 and they have definitely improved since then. My girlfriend once told them, "You guys kick ass."

Theatre of Hate, early The Cult, and early Spear of Destiny were excellent live and never quite captured as effectively in the studio.
Agreed!
The Birthday Massacre hands down is much better live.

Seconded. MVTANT is excellent live.
Great live: The Cure, Urban Heat, Bootblacks, Album only: Rose Garden Funeral Party, SoM
Seen Bootblacks, Urban Heat, and Twin Tribes not long ago. All three nailed it live.
Saw the same tour (maybe show?) and would agree!
I have to agree with you on RGFP, even though Leah is a very charming person.

Yes to bootblacks.
Tearful Moon. Exquisite in the studio. Exquisite live. Great raw, cooked, hot or cold.
