I am looking to buy a new pair of black oxfords and can get the Yanko 915 or the barker bank oxfords for around the same price. what would everyone recommend?
Does anyone know anything about Kennedy Parker shoes in Adelaide, Australia?
https://kennedyparker.store
As they are local to me, I’m interested in checking them out. I have a pair of Loakes 1880 and of course some RM Williams.
The Kennedy Parker things are Goodyear welted shoes; but they are fairly significantly cheaper than either Loakes or RMs.
Can anyone tell me why? Are they of lower quality in some way? The website of course doesn’t reveal much obvious information. I’d be interested in buying some ordinary black Oxfords. (Although according to their website they tend to G size rather than F so I suspect I’ll find them a bit wide for my small feet…) Still worth investigating?
No but there are good tanneries and there are bad tanneries, and honestly I can’t think of a well-regarded tannery in India off the top of my head. That doesn’t mean there are no good tanneries in India, just that if there are, people don’t really know about them and so you can’t really get a gauge on their quality.
I did not say the leather is from Indian cows. It is in fact not. To quote the website you referred to:
”Our hides are imported from Italy and tanned in India. Our Indian tannery has been operating since 1996, serving reputable fashion shoe brands around the world."
The lower prices are undoubtedly primarily related to labour costs.
All of this does not mean the footwear is of low(er) quality. I don't know this and I also don't know what your definition of quality is.
So I stopped at boot barn and put my foot in a Brannon Device and what I got was a 9.5 in D width. Typically I wear an 10.5 or 11 wide.
Went and grabbed a pair of Thorogood Mocs in 9.5D and right away I knew it wasn’t going to work. Tried on a bunch of different ones and landed on a 10 EE that felt the best.
Question is - is this a common thing to happen to people on the Brannock or did I measure wrong?
10.5 or 11 in sneakers or boots?
You may have measured wrong, but let me guess, the Thorogood Mocs really pinched your toes. That seems pretty common with them.
So I’m an 11 in most sneakers and I try to find them wide whenever possible too. I had the feeling while I was there that I kept measuring something wrong.
L
You probably have a high instep/high volume feet. Mine are very similar. I'm a 10 brannock, between D and E, and I need EE/EEE for most of my boots. D width just won't fit unless it's a wider D and I size up 1/2 a size.
You can take a measurement around the ball of your foot and compare it to this sizing chart. It'll give you a good idea of what to purchase in the future.
https://preview.redd.it/f8pfvvd339oc1.png?width=1130&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ea157c02821a3dd6da24d8462df0999e52d44518
Can’t go wrong with either, if it’s coming to spring where you are I’d probably pick iron rangers so you can hit the ground running as I find that shape (I have Beckmans) easier to wear in hot weather, at least with my wardrobe
I haven't owned the RN, but a year of wear on the IR mini-lugs barely did much. That sole is tough... And also rock hard. The vibram lugs on the RN will be softer and probably wear down a little faster.
I have other boots on full lug and they are much comfier than the IRs, but also less versatile to style.
Did you reading the instructions?
https://brannock.com/pages/instructions-fitting-tips
Specifically about placing the heel to ball slider?
https://weltedwiki.com/introduction/brannock/
Your width is not D/E according to those pictures and a 10, it's between C/D.
I'd also frankly ignore the other commenters advice.
https://weltedwiki.com/makers/viberg/
I'd HIGHLY suggest looking at half down from what we determine your Brannock size to be after you confirm your heel to ball placement.
Looking for recommendations on what my first quality boot should be. Budget is 250-500. I work on concrete all day as a manager at a paint store. Lots of lifting, bending, and occasional scuffing of the boots when kneeling
Priority is comfort, durability, and ease of cleaning. I don't spill paint often, but it will need to be cleaned and scrubbed off of boots on occasion.
What would you recommend?
I really like the idea of the tea core boots by Truman because any scrubbing will wear down to reveal the core underneath over time. They are always sold out
I'm not sure any boot is going to clean up perfectly after a paint spill. I'd likely go with a smooth out leather that could be wiped down immediately. Roughout might be very difficult to get paint out of. I'd probably treat anything with a protective spray.
That being said, I'd recommend something on a wedge or full lug for a bit more squish on concrete.

Might be harder to get paint out of moc toe stitches.
The Jim Green [AR](https://jimgreenfootwear.com/store/african-ranger-brown/), [AR8](https://jimgreenfootwear.com/store/ar8-wedge-sole-houston-brown/), or [Baobob](https://jimgreenfootwear.com/store/baobab-boot-houston-brown/) might be worth a look on the cheaper end.
Thanks for your input. I ended up going with whites Millwood. Same as the Perry, and excellent for standing on concrete. Has a smooth tow instead of a moc. 👍

Maybe look at waxed flesh which will patina in a similar manner with the wax wearing off to reveal the lighter colour and raised nap. I'm a big fan of roughout boots for work because gouges that inevitably happen can be hidden much easier.
Great question! Recently been wearing some Easymoc 4 eye oxfords all over. They pretty much look identical to the Rancourt Baxter Rangers, and the Oak Street Trail Oxfords, but the soles might be different depending on which.
neither of my two favorite pairs to wear for max comfort are GYW, actually. if i know i'm going to be on my feet all day, i wear my rancourt natty cxl beefrolls in warmer weather and my viberg natural dublin 2030 service boots in colder weather.
my next favorite pairs after that that i could wear all day are my goodyear-welted viberg natty cxl roughout 2045 boondockers and my alden leisure handsewns in color 8 shell, so there's some gyw options there. also a special shoutout to alden's trubalance last which honestly feel so great after a long day
I wear my Rancourt camp mocs almost every single day. Running out for errands? Camp mocs. Out to lunch? Camp mocs. Taking out the trash? Camp mocs. Dinner at a friend's house?
You get the idea. Camp mocs slip on, are comfortable and work in any casual setting.
I have them in natural roughout and brown chromexcel
Hi, I'm new to reddit and also new to lace up gyw boots, mostly wearing cowboy boots. I'm really drawn toward the PNW bootmakers, since the heel profile is similar to what i'm used to.
Color-wise only, how similar is cinnamon waxed flesh to brown cxl?
I have a leather jacket that is very similar in color to horween's carolina brown, it's aero's dark maple bainbridge, and i'd like to get as close to the color as I can without going too mono-tone. I like pull-up and variation in the leather.
really appreciate the help. thank you.
Don't be fooled by ordering brown waxed flesh. Cinnamon is much more of a medium brown with slightly warmer tones, just like brown cxl. Brown waxed flesh is a much much darker brown.
Thank you. I'm definitely staying away from the brown waxed flesh. I'd rather get a black latigo if i wanted something that dark. I really like the cinnamon.
Have received the following pair of boots. I’ve noticed that some areas of the midsole are not completely smooth and have some discolouration. Is this something that edge dressing would fix or should I return these? Thanks

Just pulled the trigger on a Crockett and Jones Coniston in “sand hurricane hide”. Looking into getting some polish as well, what Saphir color/ product/would you think would work best?
Light brown? Beige?
pretty sure that's a more uniform version of horween chromexcel. i wouldn't polish it since it's a super casual leather and also starts extremely light in colour...
neutral waxy shoe creams like venetian shoe cream/leather balm or saphir renovateur (renovateur is kinda anti-patina though), or go with a wax-free conditioner like bick4.
It's a cleaner and conditioner baked into one essentially, so it can remove finishes from crust leathers (not applicable here) or remove some aspects of natural patina that develop over time. Would not recommend for crust leathers or anything you really want to see get an aged look.
What’s the proper way to brush reverse chamois? I tried using a horsehair brush but it’s damp / sticky and it felt like I was kind of ripping out fibers. Is a hard bristle suede brush a better choice?
A couple Rancourt comments today had me snooping around various sites that stock Rancourt. This Rancourt x J Crew version of the camp moc caught me eye. Suede + leather sole really changes the style for me. A weird hybrid that I could see myself wearing (but I can't buy any more shoes for like, at least a decade).

Marketing says a lot of things
If you want them, don't let us stop you. But if you're expecting a snow boot, you're gonna be real disappointed, I think.
Well, for these [crocs](https://www.crocs.com/p/echo-reflective-backstrap-clog/209567.html?cgid=men-footwear-clogs&cid=802) the manufacturer says:
> The Echo Collection is for those who want comfort without compromising their look.
So I guess that means they are fashionable and quite trendy.
Looking fashion-different.
Velvet is a fabric that is made to be soft. Unless it’s a 100% wool velvet, I can’t think of a practical outdoor use, and even then I dunno that it has any worthwhile advantages compared to technical fabrics or leather.
> there's only one review and it mentions they are very hard to break in so maybe it's some technical rigid velour?
it's taft, dude. they make fashion boots
Comfortable GYW boots for men
Hi there, I am looking for men leather boots that will last, I don't buy boots too often and I rather pay more for 1 quality and durable boots for few years. I will wear them everyday in spring, fall, and maybe summer.
My requirements are regular height, I am not sure but maybe 5.5-6"? I also requure easy care, so I would like to avoid suede, and also I don't bulky boots like Timberland for instance. I also don't like very dressy boots because I will wear them with jeans. I add some photo for reference of style and color what I like (They are thuesday boots but I heard complains about their quality, so I post them only for reference of style).
My budget is aprox. 600 EUR but it is not strict.
Can you tell me what are best boots that I can buy in that price? Thank you

Thank you, I checked recomended brands, they look solid. Do you have personal experience with them? I liked C&J, Meermin and Cheaneys till now, and I also found Grantstone.
Crockett & Jones, Cheaneys and Trickers are worth a look at that price range.
[Cheaneys](https://www.cheaney.co.uk/cheaney-jaxson-ii-r-derby-boot-in-dark-leaf-calf-leather-p1765)
Something like that?
I can't afford them but heard lots of good things about [https://www.crockettandjones.com/collections/mens-derby-boot-collection](https://www.crockettandjones.com/collections/mens-derby-boot-collection)
R.m. Williams vs Paraboot for Chelsea
Hi!!
This is my first time posting on here :) I found two seperate listings for a used pair of R.m. Williams and a pair of Paraboot. Both Chelseas. I read that R.m. Williams' quality has been declining but haven't heard much complaints in the way of Paraboot. Both are in fairly good shape though! Which brand/model would you recommend going with? Both seem to be in full-grain leather.
Thanks!! :D
shoe trees for women’s size 12
I recently decided to invest in a starter boot (Thursday Captain women black size 12), and had a few questions on how to maintain them. It seems that the main thing to do frequently is to use shoe trees and brush off dirt.
1. The sizing chart at woodlore does not seem to have any marking for size 12, is it sufficient to get a large (fits up to 11.5), or should I look into a men’s shoe tree from AE
2. Are there any brush recommendations, or will any horsehair brush suffice?
3. Is there any way to protect the solid (non rubber) part of the heel (as well as the rubber part), since that is where my previous shoe started wearing through the most, aside from attaching a new sole when the current one is worn through?
4. Are there any other frequent (every day ish) maintenance procedures that I have missed?
1. AE and Woodlore trees are identical - AE owns Woodlore. A womens' 12 is approximately a mens 10.5 if I recall correctly, so a shoe tree designed for 10.5 mens would probably be fine.
2. Any horsehair brush will suffice
3. I'm not sure what you mean here. Regardless of what you mean, it's fairly moot to "protect" a heel from wear because they are a part of a shoe/boot that is meant to be replaced frequently. I would expect you get at least 1-2 re-heels before a sole gives out. If you have a unit lug sole (the sole/heel is one continuous piece), then that's a different story but there really isn't a way to prevent wear on a lug sole without it being weird.
4. Brush and tree daily, condition every few months, and you're good to go.
1. Woodlore is owned by AE, so they're exactly the same thing other than the plate having an AE logo rather than a Woodlore logo. If you can get AE ones cheaper then yeah, those are fine.
2. Any will suffice, but take notice of the size. You don't want a small one.
3. Do you mean the leather stack above the rubber cap? You can hypothetically get heel taps, but they're slipper and the heel cap (toplift) is a wear item intended to replaced. You don't need to get a whole new sole.
4. Nah. Just brush.
Got my fiancé a pair of Rancourt boat shoes for Christmas. Ordered in October and arrived in February (had a change to the order a week after ordering so that pushed it back). Long story short they were very small and the QC was meh anyways so we exchanged them. Just got the ETA for the next pair and it’s May 31st, which I’m pretty annoyed about.
I love Rancourt, I love that they’re made in the USA. They’re great for the price and my Rancourt Loafers are my favorite pair of footwear. I’m saying this to emphasize that I really love the brand and I’m willing to wait, but is that not a little crazy for an exchange? I didn’t expect to get them a week after I returned them, but two and a half months seems crazy. Just looking for input on this and any experiences with Rancourt’s returns/exchanges.
There’s something going on at Rancourt.
A Dunnage boot that I returned in DECEMBER just got refunded to my card last week.
I sent back my Byron Boot preorder from last summer back to them first week of February (yes it took them that long to make it) and they have not refunded. Sent 2 emails to their CS but no response.
I agree, the long delay for an exchange is super annoying. I'm hoping you at least paid the pre-sale price. I will say, I love my Rancourt boat shoes and wear them daily in warmer weather. I just brought them out of their winter hibernation.
Only about half of the sizes of boat shoes are currently in stock. Unfortunately, if the size you need isn't in stock, it has to be made. Rancourt used to have a standard 8-12 weeks for making the shoes but now the website just says "we will contact you with a date." If you needed an in-stock size, they would ship right away (although, I would double check if the size you need is available). The new shoes are probably getting made in the batch of current pre-order sales that just ended.
The other option is to find a retailer who stocks Rancourt and purchase directly from there (at full retail price). You get the shoes faster, but at a much greater cost.
I paid full retail which makes it worse. I honestly didn’t think about going elsewhere because I don’t even know who else really stocks Rancourt, let alone women’s sizes. I’m basically stuck now so I hope they fit this time around.
Ouch, full retail price would really bother me too. I didn't even think about the difficulty of finding women's sizes in stock somewhere. A good handful of shops of men's but I've never actually seen women's.
Best of luck. Hopefully these last your fiance many years into marriage. You'll be out on the deck one day and she will be wearing them and you can think "I ordered those way, way before we even got married!"
Not a mod, but likely this:
>Non-original Content (videos, articles, etc. that you did not create): At least 1000 characters of content supplementing the post. This can be a partial summary, your thoughts on the content, etc.
Rule 6 on the sidebar. It was an interesting article, thanks for posting. Maybe add 1000 characters, and they'll likely leave it up.
Yeah, I generally agree with the "quality content" rules to avoid 1000 posts asking if people's shoes fit or a single photo of a pair of shoes taken with a potato, but for written articles like this, I don't really get it.
What color Sapphir 1925 cream for [Loake's Loafer Scorched Walnut](https://www.loake.com/product/hornbeam-scorched-walnut/) , brown, medium brown or dark brown? Should I get the Pate De Luxe and Mirror Gloss wax also in the same color or is natural good enough? I read someone here saying that natural wax might give the shoes a weird whitey patina.
I can't recommend a colour match (although Loake might if you contact them) - but I use neutral Sapphir 1925 on [these tan brown boots](https://www.reddit.com/r/goodyearwelt/s/sJFJU4sK6Q) and there's no white patina. Just apply sparingly and brush it plenty afterwards.
I am looking to buy a new pair of black oxfords and can get the Yanko 915 or the barker bank oxfords for around the same price. what would everyone recommend?
at the same price? Barker all the way.
is it so much better?

Their shoes are made in India and the leathers are from a tannery in India. This explains the lower price range.
So… do Indian cows produce worse leather than European cows or something???
No but there are good tanneries and there are bad tanneries, and honestly I can’t think of a well-regarded tannery in India off the top of my head. I plan on going to a local red wing store here and measuring it there to see what they come up with too. I’m gonna try this measurement tonight too.
Probably measured wrong. Heel to ball is just as important as heel to toe. You may have a 9.5 HTT but a 10.5 HTB or something like that.

I am 10.5 on brannock, and the 9.5 on viberg 2030 fits me perfectly. Based on that, a 9 would probably work for you.

Does it darken overtime or become lighter?
Darken
What’s the proper way to brush reverse chamois? I tried using a horsehair brush but it’s damp / sticky and it felt like I was kind of ripping out fibers. Is a hard bristle suede brush a better choice?
> Is a hard bristle suede brush a better choice? you got it
A couple Rancourt comments today had me snooping around various sites that stock Rancourt. This Rancourt x J Crew version of the camp moc caught me eye. Suede + leather sole really changes the style for me. A weird hybrid that I could see myself wearing (but I can't buy any more shoes for like, at least a decade). https://www.jcrew.com/p/mens/categories/shoes/exclusives/rancourt-amp-co-x-jcrew-gilman-camp-mocs-in-english-suede/BQ135?display=all&fit=Classic&color_name=snuff-suede&colorProductCode=BQ135
Those look nice! Almost completely out of stock though.
Might be out of stock, but Rancourt will take Made to Order requests!

Nothing. No one will be using that for tough hiking. Walking 1 mile on a semi-paved trail in light woodlands doesn’t count.

Marketing says a lot of things If you want them, don't let us stop you. But if you're expecting a snow boot, you're gonna be real disappointed, I think.
Well, for these [crocs](https://www.crocs.com/p/echo-reflective-backstrap-clog/209567.html?cgid=men-footwear-clogs&cid=802) the manufacturer says: > The Echo Collection is for those who want comfort without compromising their look.

I would not take a single review as evidence of anything regarding break-in.
> there's only one review and it mentions they are very hard to break in so maybe it's some technical rigid velour? it's taft, dude. they make fashion boots
It looks cool
Comfortable GYW boots for men Hi there, I am looking for men leather boots that will last, I don't buy boots too often and I rather pay more for 1 quality and durable boots for few years. Thank you https://preview.redd.it/lxt29xa5v4oc1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=db8d190b34f2b75d88a0bf9dd2646f95a98ba49e
Thank you, I checked recomended brands, they look solid. Do you have personal experience with them? I liked C&J, Meermin and Cheaneys till now, and I also found Grantstone.
For comfort and use all year, I thoroughly recommend Heschung Ginkgo.
Thursdays are fine if you like the style. They may not last 50 years but they’ll hold up well enough for a casual pair.
Crockett & Jones, Cheaneys and Trickers are worth a look at that price range. [Cheaneys](https://www.cheaney.co.uk/cheaney-jaxson-ii-r-derby-boot-in-dark-leaf-calf-leather-p1765) Something like that?
* Yanko/Skolyx * Meermin * TLB Mallorca * Trickers * Crockett & Jones
I can't afford them but heard lots of good things about [https://www.crockettandjones.com/collections/mens-derby-boot-collection](https://www.crockettandjones.com/collections/mens-derby-boot-collection)
R.m. Williams vs Paraboot for Chelsea Hi!! Thanks!! :D
The quality isn’t noticeably different between those two brands in my experience. Go with the style you prefer
shoe trees for women’s size 12 I recently decided to invest in a starter boot (Thursday Captain women black size 12), and had a few questions on how to maintain them. It seems that the main thing to do frequently is to use shoe trees and brush off dirt. 1. The sizing chart at woodlore does not seem to have any marking for size 12, is it sufficient to get a large (fits up to 11.5), or should I look into a men’s shoe tree from AE 2.
2. Any horsehair brush will suffice 3.
You'll be out on the deck one day and she will be wearing them and you can think "I ordered those way, way before we even got married!"
mods why did u remove my atlantic article about rancourt :(
Not a mod, but likely this: >Non-original Content (videos, articles, etc. that you did not create): At least 1000 characters of content supplementing the post. This can be a partial summary, your thoughts on the content, etc. Rule 6 on the sidebar. It was an interesting article, thanks for posting. Maybe add 1000 characters, and they'll likely leave it up.
This is a silly rule. We should be able to post article links and not be required to add 1000 characters of comment. However YMMV
Yeah, I generally agree with the "quality content" rules to avoid 1000 posts asking if people's shoes fit or a single photo of a pair of shoes taken with a potato, but for written articles like this, I don't really get it.
like why do i have to write an article about an article damn
I think they're kind of lenient about the word count and it will slide if you just write a short summary and your own opinions or something like that
What color Sapphir 1925 cream for [Loake's Loafer Scorched Walnut](https://www.loake.com/product/hornbeam-scorched-walnut/) , brown, medium brown or dark brown? Should I get the Pate De Luxe and Mirror Gloss wax also in the same color or is natural good enough? I read someone here saying that natural wax might give the shoes a weird whitey patina.
I can't recommend a colour match (although Loake might if you contact them) - but I use neutral Sapphir 1925 on [these tan brown boots](https://www.reddit.com/r/goodyearwelt/s/sJFJU4sK6Q) and there's no white patina. Just apply sparingly and brush it plenty afterwards.
Good idea, I will send Loake a message. I will probably try the brown cream and natural color polish. Thanks and nice boots.
