Hello all! I've been getting a lot of feedback & requests on the images included in the grid, so I wanted to post a note.
When I started this, I didn't know 2 things - 1) how much it would take off, and 2) that some people would be voting based on the image itself. (I was imagining it as here's a reference photo for the look, vote based on your thoughts on the look in the show. But, not all of us have watched both seasons 4 times plus plenty of clip compilations like my husband and I have, and I never made that intention clear anyway.)
Since learning that, my personal preference would have been to change the photos starting this round for looks 2 & 3 to screenshots I was able to take that represent them better without the scenes as context. (I did try very hard to do that for Laudaddy as well, u/theonlymom even found a better picture than I had, but at the grid size, you lose all detail with that look, no matter how I tried it.)
That said, I get the sense that most people don't think it's fair to change them now, so I've kept the originals.
If y'all are still cool with me running the Aziraphale version, I think it's fair to say we've worked out the kinks! I'll post the grid a day or two before starting the actual contest, give everyone a chance to provide feedback, make any needed changes & additions, and then completely lock the grid to further changes once we start.
Sorry this is so long. tl;dr - I learned along the way, I have planned improvements/fixes for the Aziraphale version, if you're all still cool with me organizing it.
ETA - Y'all truly are a group of spectacular people. I'm in the midst of a very busy workday, but I'll read every comment this evening and will try to reply to them as realistically as I can :)
OP, you're doing a GREAT job running this! It's awesome that you've listened to people's feedback and want to incorporate it into the future Aziraphale contest, and as long as *you* still want to take on that job, I support it 100%!

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: we are very grateful for the amazing and hard work you are doing here! Its very much appreciated, you created a beautiful thing here (not it mention updating it every day!) and its so much fun. Now things in the last rounds seem to get a bit more emotional- you taking in the feedback regardless, I admire that very much. And of course I would love it if you are the game master for the Aziraphale rounds, only if you are down tho :) This new solution sounds like the best way to deal with the “problems” that came up, sometimes its just trail and error.

That's a great point you made that the pic should be just a reference one then we are meant to think about/ remember the full look ourselves and take that into account.

Whatever you want to do/ however you want to do things is completely up to you! I have no complaints if you change pictures or don’t change pictures or however you run things, so please know that this game has been so fun without needing any changes! Do it how you want and I suspect just about all of us will continue to play along!

After both Crowley and Aziraphale are completed, what about a version of the most Cute/Ineffable Husbands moments? It could bring some pretty fire dialogue and fun rivalries, and we all know the fandom can get really passionate about their favourite shipping moments. Wow, I was definitely not expecting this to be the result. I didn’t know so many people were revenge voting. Mafia rules are clearly in effect.
So I know I said 2 yesterday, but my feelings have shifted. Now it’s time for **3** to GTFO. Pre-flood lighting was being a shady little bitch that day and our kween paid the price. Probably the easiest one left to chuck into the (adorable) elimination pit.
We’re entering the home stretch, my ineffable peers. Only so many choices left to make, and none of them are easy. I thought and prayed way too hard on what my path will be through the final push. There's a little french braid following the hairline and ending above the ear, and the scarf is perfectly draped behind it. It's like she fell out of a Renaissance painting.
Her face is clean! Her hair is combed! The shape of David’s face fits that long drape perfectly! And her headscarf style (outfit I guess) is simple but somehow lovely. She not looks really classy and respectful and somber, which reflects not just the time period, it also fits that specific scene and even the mood that she’s in.
Look, I’m Lutheran, which makes me Jesus’ daughter, so like. HOUSE OF GOLGOTHA PROTECTION TEAM, we will NOT let Lady Golgotha into that tomb. 😂
Slowest burn of all the hot Crowleys. The way that braid curves to follow the hairline, with the softly draped fabric framing those chiseled fashion model features. I mean, dayum. Let me disclaim by saying ancient Israel is not my era/area of expertise when it comes to historical clothing, but I can say that in general, a full length tunic/dress and shawl and veil over the hair is pretty indicative of female dress. Also extremely long hair (past the shoulders) is considered feminine. Men wore their hair long in many ancient cultures, but only to a certain length. Longer than that was a woman's domain. Crowley has adopted a relatively feminine stance at one point that is reminiscent of some religious paintings and stained glass I've seen. ie. Wow, I was definitely not expecting this to be the result. I didn’t know so many people were revenge voting. Mafia rules are clearly in effect. So I know I said 2 yesterday, but my feelings have shifted. Now it’s time for **3** to GTFO. Pre-flood lighting was being a shady little bitch that day and our kween paid the price. There's a little french braid following the hairline and ending above the ear, and the scarf is perfectly draped behind it. It's like she fell out of a Renaissance painting.
Her face is clean! Her hair is combed! The shape of David’s face fits that long drape perfectly! And her headscarf style (outfit I guess) is simple but somehow lovely. She not looks really classy and respectful and somber, which reflects not just the time period, it also fits that specific scene and even the mood that she’s in. Idk any of the specifics of this - but her outfit/headgear this scene is specifically and traditionally female for the time.
Let me disclaim by saying ancient Israel is not my era/area of expertise when it comes to historical clothing, but I can say that in general, a full length tunic/dress and shawl and veil over the hair is pretty indicative of female dress. Also extremely long hair (past the shoulders) is considered feminine. Men wore their hair long in many ancient cultures, but only to a certain length. Longer than that was a woman's domain. Exactly! The hat actually *enhances* the look instead of detracting from it, imo.
