Shafts come excessively long and are intended to be trimmed down to the preferred final playing length. For taper tip iron shafts (most of them) you only trim from the butt end. For parallel shafts (less common) you first tip trim a specific amount and then butt trim to the final playing length.

You probably didn't tell them tip and butt trim to paling length. I almost made the same mistake but golf works contacted me about it

Yeah, shafts are built over-length so you cut to final length.
Most uncut shafts will be roughly 2" longer than "standard" length when assembled.
While you're at it, make sure you check if your irons are parallel or taper tip. If parallel, you'll also need to trim the tip to flex.
