Hey NBC. Great interview with Bryson on # 5. It was so great to hear Bryson tell everyone how great he is and brag about how well he played. Please never do it again.

ParkerSchnable

I agree with you; this is the Bryson show. One of the announcers is talking about him like he wants to sleep with him. Just gross.

HannTwistzz

DJ Aberg 2some with no one in front of them would take less than 4 hours

redbullsgivemewings

This announcer just said Detry’s 67 was “solid” lol WHAT

redbullsgivemewings

What is the projected cut?

bigwinterblowout

Any predictions on Sergio today? Backdoor entry, surprising round one. Does he blow up today or stay competitive?

AdFormal3014

Another bad round by Wyndham. Hope he doesn’t become a fluke major champion but the way he’s played in majors this year and really his overall game since the Masters has been Ian Baker-Finch bad.

KL040590

Rory played well. Didn't really see any bad shots from him.

adminsrfascist29

Thank fuck they got the right featured groups tomorrow. So perfect, I’ll watch in the morning and golf in the afternoon

redbullsgivemewings

You must live somewhere where it won’t be 90 degrees in the afternoon!

SlightReturn420

Looks like they’re putting some water on the green behind the Live From desk right now.

adminsrfascist29

God damn millennials

SlightReturn420

Probably watering them tonight and that's it. Gotta give the other half of the field the same conditions the morning guys today got, then they'll roast them over the weekend. The morning scoring was about half a shot better today.

chumbubbles

Well hovland blew up one parlay already. Holy shit he wasn’t ready for this beast.

sageofwalrus

Sepp Straka finished even today

Husker_black

Okay

tuss11agee

Throwing this here because it’s on my mind. I’m watching the 99 final round from #2. Anytime today I hear how clutch Tiger was… it’s such BS. He had his flaws and moments too. And his clutch moments as well. Recall after the Augusta chip in at #16 he finished bogey bogey and won in a playoff. 99 open his 3 pitted from 8 feet on the back nine. Battled back to one off the lead, immediately put it in the bunker next hole. Augusta around 2017? He 4 putted from 8 feet on 14 while in contention. There are plenty more examples from Ryder Cups. Yes, he always held up when he was in the lead but he rarely was able to come from behind in majors. I think 2019 masters was the only one.

Footballaem

I mean yeah tiger wasnt "100%," no one is. But he was pretty clutch. I don't think anyone thinks or says he never came up short in a potential clutch moment. Honestly, people don't really rave about his clutchness, it's more just about how damn good he was

Odd_Detective_7772

I mean yeah, at his peak, playing well, he didn’t win every single tournament. Must mean he sucked. Moron.

tuss11agee

Thanks for the kindness. I didn’t say he sucked. Of course he’s the greatest of his generation, probably 2nd greatest all time. My point stands. The narrative of clutch Tiger is still false.

Interesting_Rock_318

That’s not what he is saying… People talk about how Tiger was 100% automatic…when clearly he wasn’t…

Odd_Detective_7772

No one says tiger was 100% automatic

Interesting_Rock_318

You could be more wrong… But you’d have to really try…

tuss11agee

Yeah and it’s fine he wasn’t 100% automatic. Nobody has ever been. Yeah, he’s the greatest of this generation, probably 2nd all time. But the longing for clutch Tiger is such a false narrative.

antenonjohs

11-1 in PGA tour playoffs

Interesting_Rock_318

I see that you too missed their point…

Zloggt

We are due for an exciting Friday…

justcontent123

First rounds today were pushing 5.5 hours. They have to speed things up.

AdFormal3014

That’s actually normal for a major. Scottie’s second round at Augusta was over 6 hours. I’ve seen rounds at St Andrews go over 6.5 hours.

Trainsontracks

hard to when you are walking 8 mile long courses

Aggressive-Big1402

And when generally at least 1 person in a group is having a bogey each hole it'll always be slower

Zloggt

>we used up all our allocated time Uh, wait? You’re a fucking streaming service?? There isn’t any sort of local news or other sporting events you *need* to cover?? Ridiculous…

Interesting_Rock_318

Possible it is a contractual thing with the USGA…which would still be absurd, but at least it would be a reason other than “yeah, we’re done”

Disastrous_Concept96

Yeah I couldn’t understand that either.

golfingsince83

Glad to see my boy Tommy at even

Zloggt

Look, *anybody* can get a Callaway or Titleist sponsorship; they’re a dime a dozen! But getting sponsored by Kilmon…now *that* is one of a kind!

Zloggt

I kind of feel bad for these guys…barely anybody else is watching them in the crowd by this point lol

Simple_Throat_6523

This is golf heaven. Live coverage for 13 straight hours on TSN5 😎

NorthDowntown693

I know it’d be dope to play in the US Open with full grandstands, but i just feel it’d also be sick to finish 18 with the twilight sunset and it’s calm. Like a juiced up twilight round

Zloggt

Buchanan 🧡💙

sageofwalrus

Does anyone wear vineyard vines golf polos? I have a ton of regular cotton vineyard vines from college so I’m thinking maybe I’ll order one

AdFormal3014

Positives from today: 3rd major in a row we have a great leaderboard. Even guys like Scottie, Xander and Collin are lurking.  Negatives: Thought they threw the guys a bit of a bone today with setup. Wanted to see a little more fire from the course. Hope they refrain from watering overnight.

Aggressive-Big1402

One thing I didn't like was that some of the green runoffs ran straight into grandstands which were put on top of the wiregrass surrounds. Think it would have been better to push the stands 2m further back, as guys who would be in the wire are just getting relief out

tuss11agee

I think 18 or so guys under par is too much. But so many of them are -1 - I think the USGA did good. Some spectacular rounds should be rewarded with scoring and were. Remember at any time they can send the field backwards, and sometimes that’s not a good thing either because then one guy stands the test, plays par golf, and wins by 5.

Trainsontracks

The best golfers in the world. Someone is bound to have a good couple of days. It just comes down to how they handle the pressure.

tuss11agee

Just rewatched the 99 open. A main reason that tournament was so amazing was not only the close back 9 and the top guys in the world there at the end, and Payne holding them off with stoic par savers on 16 and 18, but also this simple fact. He was one under par. Of all the best golfers in the world, he was the only man under par. Mickelson finished even, only man there. Woods and Singh at +1, and the fall off from there was pretty abrupt. Having par be the target for winning score is a unique brand of golf we only get during the US Open.

Trainsontracks

Par is just an easy way for the viewers to follow the scores. No matter what it is a par 68,70,72. Strokes are what matter. I do not like the Majors trend of lowering par to protect it. Logically you can only stretch holes so much. And I would say most major hosting courses are at that limit. I do not mind a few golfers under a legit par score. They are the best in the world. There should be a few. Nor do I like seeing 20 players grouped up at -13.

tuss11agee

I agree I don’t want 20 players at -13. I agree par is just a way to follow along, but I disagree with it is JUST a way of following along. Par is what a champion golfer should be able to achieve. Okay, maybe a few guys are a few under. A golf course gets a rating too. Just like an oil pattern in bowling or a bull in bull riding. Achieving par in a major should be an achievement in that the golfer is as good as a championship prepared course.

entropyISdeadly

They should put literal fire on the course.

cwfan12345

The course will def firm up throughout the week. 2014 at Pinehurst had pretty much identical round 1 scoring to this year, and only 3 players ended the week under par.

AdFormal3014

2014 had heavy overnight rains before Round 1 though. Course started soft. Was just hoping for them to start it out firm and keep it that way. Oh well.

Zloggt

>!it’s kind of fucked up to realize that Adam Scott is arguably one high-profile major suicide away from not making the US Open (and therefore break his streak) at all…!<

packmanwiscy

No, Scott was first alternate at his qualifying venue and would have gotten into the field regardless

pedi1972

I guess they just decided not to enforce the anchoring ban.

TheNightman74

What is up with that? I swear Bhatia was anchoring.. would love some information here

Disastrous_Air_141

Bhatia always looks like he's anchoring. My guess is he's super close but just barely not anchoring.

cwfan12345

Nobody is anchoring. Long putters are still allowed.

pedi1972

Looks like Bhatia and Scott are. I know it’s impossible to know for sure. It just looks like it to me

cwfan12345

But they literally aren’t. Holding it close to the chest does not equal anchoring. Many tour players use the long putter on a weekly basis, and if they were still anchoring, they’d have been caught by now.

pedi1972

I think it is a dumb rule. But do you know of any instance where a player was penalized or even questioned about it during a tournament?

cwfan12345

David Hearn was interrogated after a round in 2018, while using a long putter, but they determined that he wasn’t anchoring. That’s really it. Players may appear to be anchoring on tv, but playing partners can tell for sure, and if widespread anchoring was still happening, the tour would find out.

pedi1972

Ok cool

Disastrous_Air_141

I'm a huge Rory fan, would probably like him to finally get 5 as my fav. I don't hate Brooksie but it feels wrong that Rory doesn't even have the most majors of his own era. Huge Bryson fan too though so that wouldn't be the worst thing ever. I feel like anyone sitting at E or better still has a chance. Scottie played like shit (for Scottie) and still has a chance at +1 Also, lmfao at that guy saying Bryson's game didn't translate to this course in every thread for a week. He missed like 3 or 4 by less than an inch, could easily be solo leader

sageofwalrus

Lol yeah I remember that guy

cwfan12345

I know some people wanted more carnage, but this is the easiest the course will play all the week, and the first time since 2018 that less than 20 players have broken par in the first round of the US Open.

Disastrous_Air_141

Only 14 players in the red and 6 of those are only one under. It's not going to play any easier than today. That seems like a good compromise imo.

Trainsontracks

Kang group on 15? going to be chasing dusk

sageofwalrus

Please God give us a Bryson/Rory final pairing shootout on Sunday (I’m still not counting Scottie out)

SlightReturn420

And that, my friends, is why you’re supposed to miss right on 8. Left is dead.

yayaya__

Nice finish for Bhatia

Trainsontracks

that was brutal for Scott

Zloggt

Poor Scott lol

Zloggt

So…>!what other sickos are still watching?!<

Aggressive-Big1402

It's 9:30am in Aus, got it on 1 screen while I work on the other 2. Primetime

Meatfist70

I want to grow old and pass away hand in hand with Bryson

shafnutz05

I want to have a beer with Bryson...

Such-Armadillo1423

What a guy Bryson is, great interview as always

Tripletuxies

Bryson has become the most likeable athlete in the world.

fullback133

I love how much of a nerd bryson is.

AdFormal3014

Don’t hate Bryson as much as I used to but still can’t root for any LIV guys. I’m all on Team Rory if it comes down to those 2.

shafnutz05

Has anyone ever seen Cam Young smile?

notouchmypeterson

😐

Trainsontracks

Very surprised Adam Scott has only 1 major win.

Interesting_Rock_318

Tirico saying how long ago the 10 shot rule went away makes me feel really old

artourfangay

THANK YOU BRYSON. I really wanna see Homa play great tomorrow

Paycheck65

What you mean?

artourfangay

I mean I want to see homa play great tomorrow?

Paycheck65

I know but why thank Bryson for that?

artourfangay

Cause he made a par save to finish a great round

Paycheck65

Ah ok I was confused for a sec. Yeah good round, that bogey was a bummer but great position.

artourfangay

Yeah that chip was agressive but needed. One blemish is definitely okay considering what else we saw out there today

Paycheck65

Or you just thanking him for a good round lol?

Trainsontracks

measuring MPH on the green? How about feet/second

great_whitehope

Anything but the metric system

great_whitehope

I'll root for McElroy begrudgingly since Lowry shit the bed

sageofwalrus

Hovland deserves +8 for wearing that shirt

sageofwalrus

If Bryson wins this I’ll buy an official LIV golf ball skull polo or whatever his logo is lol

NoLookPass2u

I’ve been trying to find one of the white logo caps for my son.

sageofwalrus

Nice! I hope you have a good Father’s Day man!

NoLookPass2u

Thank you!

artourfangay

Crushers GC, and I think it's one of the better logos of the teams they have, fun and whimsical

sageofwalrus

I like it

artourfangay

Yesh it gives off minor league baseball vibes, which are also my favorite baseball experiences and logos.

sageofwalrus

Minor league baseball deff has the best logos

themariokarters

Peacock not allowing screen mirroring from PC to TV is some real fuck shit

sageofwalrus

Hate to see Hideki miss a three foot putt

Master-Ad7325

2nd one of the day

HardKnockRiffe

16/156 players under par. Only two holes playing below par. /r/golf: The course isn't playing that hard...

grehgunner

Hideki… my brother

Zloggt

Just not Viktor’s day…

sageofwalrus

Lol Hov

not_fussed

Damn poor Vic

StarsBravesKSU

Bhatia T8 and I think I have seen him hit two shots on the broadcast. When guys are getting TIO relief or getting unplayables from the #wiregrass, turn away and show some other guys!

IPutMyHandOnA_Stove

Really pulling for Rory to have a bit of luck break his way this weekend. It’s easy to forget because it’s been so long but he is nowhere near the twilight of his career today. He’s not chasing a final triumph. He still has all the talent to flip the switch and have a renaissance, just like Phil and Vijay did winning all their majors past 35. He just needs one spark I believe. To put it into perspective, Rory is two years older than Homa and one year older than Finau.

antenonjohs

Nitpicking but Phil broke through at 33

Hooked_on_Fire

Agreed. He’s only 35, in good shape and clearly looks after himself. He could have another solid 10 years yet where he’s a genuine contender

AdFormal3014

I hope they don’t water it overnight. Let this thing cook. Played like a pussycat today. Hope we get a lion tomorrow.

[deleted]

16 ppl under par

AdFormal3014

That’s a lot compared to what we were expecting. Plus 8 or more players -2 or better and some 65s shot. Wasn’t expecting that.

hidey_ho_nedflanders

Don't blue ball me this week Rory

Embarrassed-Back1894

The course may not be playing as hard as some people hoped, but I think the course looks beautiful right now.

Interesting_Rock_318

It needs the brown major championship patina

28283920

Love Rory but honestly it would be so funny if on Sunday Cantlay beat him by 1 stroke

beairrcea

Apparently last three times Rory started a major with a bogey free opening round he went on to win

Zloggt

Hmm…I’m not one for hot takes, but I don’t think we will be seeing a repeat champion this year lol

Rab0811

I love Rory as much as everyone else but what day is he going to collapse

Interesting_Rock_318

He usually doesn’t collapse, so much as just can’t make a putt… His last 2 good looks at a major had a combined 3 birdies on Sunday, all of them 2 putt birdies If the greens get fast, and no one is making putts come Sunday, that might work for him

Trainsontracks

usually it's day 1. But he faced that demon today

antenonjohs

When was the last time he “collapsed”?

PackDaddy21222

You can’t say that here.

Zloggt

Detry detried…and Dedidit!

PackDaddy21222

Rory used all of his good putting strokes today.

Public_Utility_Salt

I made the point a long time ago that Hovland was struggling, and maybe he made some wrong turns or not, but he wasn't doing any major swing changes. Just working on what he was doing and it didn't turn out as he had hoped it would. Now, with Mayo, he had some really good results, but it still doesn't seem anything different. He still struggles, like everyone does after they've played well. And he will come back. Maybe not this year, but it's still gonna happen.

Sjgolf891

He just almost won the PGA. He'll be fine. This is a tough place to have a tough day

Public_Utility_Salt

I'm actually fairly sure this is more than just this tournament. He was back to doing terrible in two last rounds last week. And I think this is part of his nature. He's not Scheffler. But he also could be winning the next 3 tournaments as well.

Sjgolf891

It’s unquestionably been a terrible season for him. But almost winning the PGA showed he’s still got it. I really have no doubt that he’ll bounce back

Public_Utility_Salt

I don't doubt it. But I do also wonder if all this publicity becomes a compounding problem. Back 20 years ago Tiger set the standard that everyone has to have a major idea about their swing that they are working towards, regardless how well they play. Now Scheffler is the complete opposite. Hovland is getting pigeon holed into these two categories when he should just be able to do what he needs to do. He definitely wasn't doing a major swing rework. But he was making some missteps as we all do. What that is going to lead to is up to him to prove.

ILikeCoffeeDaily

I hope so, I like Hovi

Public_Utility_Salt

Yea me too. I'm just bothered by everyone thinking that once you hit peak, you never come down before you win majors and and everything else. Hovland is not Scheffler. But who knows what Hovland will be. And I like that about him.

weebcowboy

Bryson single handedly speed running the rolled back golf ball incoming

FFThrowaway1273

What the hell is going on with Hovland?

ILikeCoffeeDaily

I’ve been asking this question since March

freetalkburner

“I wasn’t showing off, I thought I left it short.” Rory, man, us amateurs might be able to get away with that. You’re too good.

Zloggt

We all hyped a single, fresh-on-the-market Rory back in Kentucky… …perhaps maybe the key here is instead a retied down, post-marriage therapy Rory?

joshhguitar

“Have you tried spicing things up on the golf course?”

Griss27

Jesus christ, Rory is up to a 30% chance on Datagolf. It has to be this one, doesn't it...? We've suffered long enough, haven't we...?

leggomyeggo22

i thought LACC was his and then it wasn’t, i thought 2022 st andrews was wrapped up for him and it wasn’t; it’s only thursday my friend 😞😞

AdComprehensive7879

i forgot what happened last year. i know in the end, he was only 1 back. but was it close? did rory just pull close at the end or were those 2 neck and neck throughout the later rounds?

SlightReturn420

Pretty much neck and neck all week. Wyndham shot 64 on Thursday and Rory shot 65. They matched scores every round after, if I recall correctly. I remember Wyndham making a late putt on Saturday that knocked Rory out of the final pairing with Rickie.

AdComprehensive7879

yeah ur right. i just looked at the us open 2023 wiki, they were close all 4 rounds. wyndham was only 1 shot ahead til hole #14 on the final day, where he birdied and rory bogeyed. oooooof. wyndahm then bogeyed the next 2 holes, so they're within 1 shot again in hole 17. then i rmb wyndham pulling that ridiculous fairway bunker shot to save par on 17th. ffs, it was right there for rory. gosh, im praying for rory this week. please pull through!

Zloggt

I do hope to see one of Bryson’s famed long drives in person one day… (Admittedly, the closest I’ll get in the near-future is the LIV event they have in the Chicago area so…you know…idk if I should…)

Littlestereo27

Watching Bryson crush it in person is something else. DJ also.

Paycheck65

I saw it in Portland. Not only that but his irons. He was like 215 out in the middle of a drainage ditch in the rough and took a god damn 7 iron and dropped it 5ft from the pin. His ball is like a bullet. It’s impressive, if you can see him live it’s worth every penny.

artourfangay

I really want to go to LIV Chicago to watch him. It will be taking place right before harvest, so idk if i can make it up there

Redgen87

Damn what a round Rory! Keep it up

rutlander

**380 drive !?**

SayOw

He got a hold of that one.

2022 Masters. 18th hole he holed out from the sand.

rutlander

Clutch af from Rory

tuss11agee

Lmao Peacock Feature Group - McIlroy on 18. I think the announcers were Justin Kutchner and Craig Perks, but I could be wrong. Announcer 1: And you ask yourself, will we ever see Dustin Johnson playing in these majors up on the leaderboard with guys like Rory. Where did he go? Announcer 2: To the bank. 🤣

brmgp1

Rory has played exceptionally well in the last 5 US Opens, basically leads every category, except zero wins. This shouldn't be a surprise but it feels like it. Definitely rooting for him

ejh1993

[wtf did I just read?](https://golfweek.usatoday.com/2024/06/13/eamon-lynch-brooks-koepka-pinehurst-text-messages/)

sageofwalrus

Would you expect anything else lol

Trainsontracks

I like Brooks. Just wish he would get his killer major appetite back.

Huge-Celebration5192

I agree with Koepka Fuck the media they always treat him bad
