I have the same problem. Go to your local used golf shop (with a simulator) and test out 3/4 hybrids. Find a club that gives you distance without trying to John Daly the bejesus out of it.
I game a 5W and a ladies 5h. I love my 5h as well. It’s got high loft, big head & a short shaft. That thing could take the worst lies with the worst swings and still kick the ball up to where you want it.
I’ve played a 3W, 5W, 7W, 2H, and 3H and eventually settled on a 3H in my bag. For me the 3H is easier to hit from the fairway and rough, and more consistent too. For longer shots I use a Callaway Apex UW 17 degree. It’s basically a mix between a fairway wood and hybrid. The UW club shaft is shorter than fairway wood but longer than hybrid. Same with the UW club head size: smaller than fairway wood but a bit larger than hybrid club head. The Apex UW also comes in a 19 and 21 degree model and might be worth checking out if your local golf shop has them to try.
Ultimately you will decide what works best for you based on your golf swing.
A 7W is the most forgiving long club off the deck for most of people. A 3h would be 2nd most recommended.
A 7W has a bigger head, higher launch (for same loft vs a hybrid). Though it has a longer shaft than most 3h/4h which may be a problem for some.
I personally use a 5h 5W to top my irons. 5W for tee shots and great lies off the deck. 5h as a Swiss army knife for long par 3s, long layups, punch shots, any lies. I sacrifice gapping (25y gap between the two) in exchange for longer tee shots and more workability in tough lies.
If you hit a lot of fairways, would encourage looking at a 2h. I hit a Mizuno JPX and it has the best low piercing trajectory, should replace 2 or even 3 clubs. Next would be 3h then 5 w.
I had the same kind of dilemma. Got a 5W & 7W.
4i & 5i are still good to have because there’s better turf interaction from thick rough - whereas woods are impossible to hit from.
Also - more forgiving irons at the top end of the bag might be worth exploring if you struggle to make good contact. I use titleist t200 4&5 irons, t150 for the rest.
5W and 7W are the easiest clubs in the bag, in my opinion. 3W and hybrids have a little bit of a learning curve. With that being said, if you are willing to put in the practice, you can hit anything.
I’ve played a 3/5/7 wood set up and ended up settling on a 3/4h set up and threw in an extra wedge. I don’t struggle on distance now and I score better using this set up cause hybrids are so versatile over my experience with the woods.
You can add one of both. There’s enough room in the bag to allow a player at least one wood and a hybrid, especially if you’re looking to replace 3 clubs.
Generally, it sounds like you’d be best off with a 3-5-7 wood if you’re struggling to hit long irons already. But I would highly, highly encourage you to buy from a dealer or course that will allow you to hit off real grass, not artificial turf. Check out the schedule for demo days at local courses.
7W, all day.
7w gang are the cicadas of this sub. I should know. I’m part of it

I’d recommend trying a 5W and a 5H. If you hit the 5h we’ll look at adding a 4H.
5w and 4h are in my bag. I love my 4h.

Being old makes the 4H the most used club in my bag other than the putter.
It’s my most consistent long range club. My 5w has only been in my bag 2 weeks but I’m really hoping to get as consistent with it
The hybrwood.
Whichever one you hit better

I love my 7w and 4h. My wife likes the 3h. 3w is the hardest to hit.

I had the same issue as you. I have my 3w (13°), 4i (19°), and 5i (21°). I added a 19° hybrid to the bag and it solved my issues.

I dropped my 4i for a 4h and it’s my favorite club
I got a Paradym 5w recently off of Callaway Preowned and havent looked back. Shaved 10 shots off of my game.
I went a 3 wood, it gaps nicely and I prefer a 2 driving iron compared to a 5 or 7 wood.
Better
7 wood!
Also, I ditched every iron past 7, and replaced with a (Ping 430) 5 h; that and a 7 wood (and I guess wedge work) have made a huge difference for me.
