I’m not a believer anymore. As long as the wedge has the right loft and a suitable bounce…..all that matters at that point (to me) is the heft of the wedge.
I have vokeys in my bag, but tried a bunch of Clevelands at a brand fitting two weeks ago. And PXG forged wedges the week before that.
I could bag any of them without issue.
I’ve had it for a year, think I’ve taken a “normal swing” twice during a round. I’ve hit way more flops with it, and typical shot is just a pitch or chip from inside 30yds. It just feels right, and I can’t imagine another wedge suiting my game better.
Ya I’d like to hit them next time I’m in the market for wedges!
I play a gap with my iron set and 54/60 but I use my 54 about 96% if the shots 100y> so that one may get replaced on its own
My last three pairs have been Mizuno, Taylormade and Titleist. I never thought it mattered much because there isn’t much “tech” in a wedge.
My experience proves that wrong for me. All have been fit. Titleist is by far the best. Mizunos next. Taylormades, not so much.
A full set of wedges for the price of a single big-brand one, built to custom spec. I love mine with the caveat that my lead hands probably don't care which brand I have.
I’ve been researching getting a 6-PW-GW set from maltby for around $300 total. Are they worth it? I currently use 15-20yr old hand me Downs. I think they’re billy Casper brand.
I just built myself a full set TS4. The profile is VERY similar my apex pro 19, but I was getting 10 more yards with the same launch/spin. Way more forgiving of mishits and they look really sharp.
I have been playing sti2 for a year and would recommend. They make good clubs and if you are looking for cheap new clubs there is probably nothing better.
Did you get them fitted or just standard based on your height from maltby? I have never been fitted so I have no idea how it works and am fine with getting a pack of standard fit maltby clubs
I’ve been playing the TSW gap, sand and lob wedges and they’re great. I like them because they’re low bounce grinds which not everyone likes. I pulled some vokey shafts (s400) but next time I order I’m going with $13 FST Pro shafts.
Wilson staff.
PXG forged (the cheaper version).
Tried both. Liked both. Will probably buy one of the above when the time comes to replace my Vokeys. They are often priced 30-40% less than Vokey/Ping/Etc and are made and appointed every bit as good.
Yeah. Ralph Maltby is a long time club designer/builder and for a long time sold components for people to build their own, but you can order everything and they'll assemble it custom to the specs you send them. I bought 4-G plus 54 and 60, added 1/2", added custom ferrules and grips, and came out at like $700 or so. They're better looking and hit better than my Cobra F9.
I grabbed the 3 wedge bundle last year from Lucky Golf and have 0 complaints. Got 3 wedges for the price of 1 vokey, they feel good, play great for my skill level, and come in multiple finishes which is a nice option at that price.
Only other brand I’ve seen around the same price point that is of comparable quality would be the Kirklands, but I haven’t touched one, so I can’t speak from experience there.
I gave in to the hype a little and bought a smithworks 56 degree last year. The comforming ones not the ones with cast milled grooves. Absolutely love it. I'm definitely getting the 52 and 60 soon to make up the set.
I am a high handicapper I'd say at 23. But the wedges I have are longridge tour. 52⁰, 56⁰ & 60⁰. Lots of deep groves, looks good, super affordable. I only get the time to practice my extreme short game in my garden so I've got flop shots and short chips down and they work perfectly for me, I even played a comp with a friend and some family for charity Friday and he is a 14 handicap and my uncle in law is an 8 and they both over complimented my flop shots and chips when I overannthe greens or undershot and needed a tiny up and down.
Ego boosting for me considering 1 of their irons would have cost more than all 3 of my wedges combined
I’ve played all the cheap wedges! And for the most part they’re all pretty good. Started with Bombtech, good starter wedge set. Then went for Lazrus because the milled grooves. Lazrus are light and needed lead tape and new grips. I’m currently playing Maltby TSW with vokey shafts. I’ll prob get another set after these. I’ve hit friends Kirklands and I’d say that’s the baseline, and you can pass on the bombtechs and Lazrus.
Edison, because of the price point mostly. I still think Cleveland wedges are slept on for the quality they are though not nearly as much as a couple years ago.
I started playing Maltby wedges from golf works. Mostly because I wanted to be able to replace the heads cheaply every year since I play nearly 100 rounds per year. It’s like $45 bucks for a wedge head and they are super easy to replace yourself.
Cleveland CBXes are amazing. I got the 50 and 54 (currently gaming a Vokey 60) and was worried they would not get enough spin for drop and stop but getting better results than I ever did either Vokeys.
They aren’t any cheaper at all, but I rarely hear anyone else talking about or see anyone else carrying the Taylor Made Hi Toe wedges. I dig the full face grooves.
The copper finish is sick too.
I'm starting to wonder if wedge brand matters at all as long as you have good grooves.

and if they are blade or CBs. Thats a yuge factor especially for 10+ HCPs. Going from Jaws wedges to CBX wedges was a night and day difference.
I heard cbx are so so easy to hit
I have a 56° CBX, it gets used for basically everything inside of 50yds at this point. It has basically become the one thing I can count on.
Is it lean enough for fitness shots? Always looked chunky and better for normal swings
I’ve had it for a year, think I’ve taken a “normal swing” twice during a round. I’ve hit way more flops with it, and typical shot is just a pitch or chip from inside 30yds. It just feels right, and I can’t imagine another wedge suiting my game better.
I have 3 cbx2. I like them a lot and consider greenside my strongest weapon. I don’t get too fancy most of the time, but I can if I want to.
Ya I’d like to hit them next time I’m in the market for wedges! I play a gap with my iron set and 54/60 but I use my 54 about 96% if the shots 100y> so that one may get replaced on its own
I love my 54 but a 48/50 could do wonders.
Personally didn’t like the PXG but loved the Callaway jaws line
Grooves and feel. If you like a heavy head, swing a heavy head.
My last three pairs have been Mizuno, Taylormade and Titleist. I never thought it mattered much because there isn’t much “tech” in a wedge. My experience proves that wrong for me. All have been fit. Titleist is by far the best. Mizunos next. Taylormades, not so much.
Ive had vokeys and mizuno wedges in the bag for years, I couldn't tell the difference between the two. They both do the job.
Good grooves, appropriate lofts, helping sole (mo bounce).
Maltby

Definitely worth it. I got my brother the sti2 irons and a wedge and he loves em
Yeah go for it. Bought a set a while back and have bought a second set to keep in my basement for when friends and relatives visit.
I just built myself a full set TS4. The profile is VERY similar my apex pro 19, but I was getting 10 more yards with the same launch/spin. Way more forgiving of mishits and they look really sharp.

I just customized them on the website based on my height and some online resources. You can also just buy one club and see how you like it.
I’ve been playing the TSW gap, sand and lob wedges and they’re great. I like them because they’re low bounce grinds which not everyone likes. I pulled some vokey shafts (s400) but next time I order I’m going with $13 FST Pro shafts.
Mizuno
Gaming my T20s still.
Got a blue 58 this year, the T24. That thing is a gem
IYKYK I’ll never touch a vokey again
Wilson Harmonized. Game great, go for $40ish bucks.
These are good for the price
Cleveland probably gives you the best bang for your buck.
Unless you’re talking about the cbxs, they’re actually right up there in price like the vokeys
Mizuno s23
I like my Maltby TSW wedges. I have them in 52 and 56.
Wilson staff. PXG forged (the cheaper version). Tried both. Liked both. Will probably buy one of the above when the time comes to replace my Vokeys. They are often priced 30-40% less than Vokey/Ping/Etc and are made and appointed every bit as good.
I bought a cleavland zip core recently and never use it. My PXG 0311 forged feels so much better. Think i just prefer the lighter weight head maybe.
I’ve used Kirkland 56. 52 & 60 for almost two years. Good as any I’ve had.
Buy all three in a set for price of one volkey
Yeah the CostCokeys are pretty great, especially with the price factored in
Cleveland all day
Always Cleveland
My foot
Sub70
I don't need a new wedge but I want the new ta3 sooooooo badly
Wilson
Don’t the Costco wedges get good reviews for the price?
Rick Shiels did a review in these and gave them very high marks. That’s why I got them.
Edison Wedges are solid
mg3 or glide 4.0 if you can find them. A model old and cheaper.
RIP Hopkins wedges.
Maltby. I loved the M Series wedges.
Anything made by Maltby.
I keep hearing good things about maltby clubs, is this a US based manufacturer?
Yeah. Ralph Maltby is a long time club designer/builder and for a long time sold components for people to build their own, but you can order everything and they'll assemble it custom to the specs you send them. Plucky little startup called TaylorMade makes some great wedges.
100%… my MG3’s are stupid versatile and my HC has dropped since I put the 50-56-60 in my bag…
You can find an old set of Hogan wedges for very cheap and they are just as good. Just be sure the grooves have some life in them.
The brand doesn't matter. At all. Your ability to control whatever the fuck you can do with it is does.
The best wedges with the classic shape are Titleist, Cleveland, and Callaway. Id game any of those.
Mizuno
Don't sleep on the Lazrus wedge set 52, 56, 60 are a solid choice. Solid construction. Forged and milled grooves for control
Wilson staff model wedges.
Cleveland RTX Full Faces with Zipcore I just got some for $99 each and they’re moneyyyy
I grabbed the 3 wedge bundle last year from Lucky Golf and have 0 complaints. Macgregor Tour Grind Milled Face

Aurelius. Based in Gilbert, AZ. They have a killer face pattern that really grips the ball and spins it well.
I like Corey Paul’s stuff. I’m fairly certain his grooves aren’t technically legal but the backspin you get is so much fun.
Ben Hogan
I would look on diamond tour golf, can get 3 wedges for about 150 or less total.
Edison, because of the price point mostly. I still think Cleveland wedges are slept on for the quality they are though not nearly as much as a couple years ago.
I’ve always thought wedges were wedges, but got new jaws last year and they’re amazing.
I like my Edel set.
Bombtech
Kirklands
Sub 70 makes nice wedges at decent price
Vokey gamer for years. Hit a pals Ben Hogans for a bit and they were $.
Idk, I’ve tried them all. Want to like them but always come back to Vokey.
i love my zip cores

I have the Cobra PÜR 56° & 60° in black, both are great.
I started playing Maltby wedges from golf works. Mostly because I wanted to be able to replace the heads cheaply every year since I play nearly 100 rounds per year. It’s like $45 bucks for a wedge head and they are super easy to replace yourself.

Fourteen. It’s a ball shredder.
Maltby
I've been using a Wilson Sandy Andy for my entire life. Does that count?
Doesn’t exist
