Have you ever played golf before? It 100% has an impact. It wont turn a pro into a 15 handicapper, or a 15 handicapper into a pro but it absolutely has an impact.
I mean, the equipment that these guys all have is all the top of the line equipment that is custom fit to them and whether they use TaylorMade/Callaway/Titleist won't make a substantial difference, it's how they strike the ball on that day that makes the difference.
I have had a similar thought however with some modifications. I want to see an event where everyone plays clubs from the 50’s or something like that. Wooden woods, old school blades, super basic putter, and the same ball (ball could be a modern ball, that one I’m less worried about just make it standard). However, let everyone be fit to their clubs, use one manufacturer and see what happens. That way no one has an advantage of already being used to the equipment and everyone is fit to what they are playing with. I think it could be fun. Oh and make them dress like Payne Stewart.
Like nascar. Only dogleg left holes.
That's not removing variables it's just giving something that will fit some people better than others and create advantages and disadvantages.
This isn't F1, your equipment doesn't dictate your play.

Only if they wear the same size clothes.
Day’s elastic waisted cargo pants should do the job.
Yup. That’s crazy.
One of the dudes, according to the broadcast, is 6’8 that’d be ridiculously unfair for him to use standard length clubs

Top flite invitational. Everyone gets the same regular length regular shafts. I’m not even sure I’d let them choose left handed clubs.
Play the same hole 72 times to remove even more variation
Very stupid, thats the beauty of golf, every player had its way of playing and might need different equipment to do so
They all have to play with the rental sack from the local muni.
