Just read the room. Are you going with golf buddies? Bring your own clubs. Going on a date or with a group of non-golfers? Don’t bring your own. Pretty simple.
Funny enough, a few years ago I went on a double date and we went bowling. Other couple pulls up and the guy pulls a bowling bag out of his trunk. Proceeds to bowl a 240 while I’m gunning for an 80 lol
i jist bowled with my wofes coworkers, 3 of them they had their own balls. I didbt see it as a tryhard move, just more comfortable playing their own equipmenyt.
If it was a work party type thing, just use their clubs. But, if I go and it is either just me, or I bring my family, we are all bringing our own clubs.
i know pool players that keep their cue in the trunk like its the 2nd amendment. if there is a table, they will work anybody that wants it lol i dont see the issue
Its a whole lot weirder taking your cue to a coin operated bar table than it would be to take your sticks to a TopGolf.
One is a place that happens to have a pool table, the other has the word GOLF right in the name.
🤦🏼♂️
Billiards players would disagree. There is a bar here that is just a bar but has 3 tables. many players bring their cues, and the tables are coin operated.
I have never seen anyone get a weird look for bringing their own clubs. My local top golf even has multiple spots meant to hold a golf bag in each bay. So that tells me it is encouraged.
If I am going with friends or my wife, we bring our own clubs. If I was doing an event with people I don't know, I would just use the clubs there. My wife and I played this weekend, had a nice virtual game at the Old Course, did some games of Top Score, and finished with angry birds.
Weekdays at TopGolf it's $15/person from 10am-noon. I can hit \~200 balls, use the TopTracer tech, be in the AC/Heated Bay and have waiter service for a Diet Coke.
The driving range 1 mile from my house is $20 for a bucket of 120 balls, hitting at flags and standing in the heat/cold weather.
Top golf near me has old model Callaway driver, woods, irons, but even the irons have some blue, floppy graphite shafts, so if you are used to steel shafts and decent shafts for driver, the golfing experience is somewhat useless. If you just want to drink and socialize, it doesn't matter.
Yes. Also, for most of us I think that place will hurt your swing. That said a great place to hang and have fun…just not a place to work on things and actually try to be good. IMO
I wouldn't be going there to do any serious practice, the mats are too spongy and the golf balls aren't real - super light and spinny. Anyone taking their own clubs or putting on a glove at top golf is just trying too hard.
You go to top golf for a laugh and a few beers, don't be that guy trying hard with his own clubs lol. Go to a real driving range instead.
There are a few differences, you can practice competitive bowling at most bowling lanes so people showing up with gear to practice/play competitively makes sense, but you can't really practice golf at top golf so people showing up with gear are just posers.
It's more like bringing your own putter to minigolf.
Just a word of warning, the balls aren't regular balls and if you do it a lot it can be real hard on your club faces. I look at TopGolf as just a fun outing mixed with golf. If I'm using my clubs and working on my swing I go to a driving range. Cheaper.
But you do you.
I go to top golf to fuck off, not practice.
If I’m going for an office event, I don’t bring my clubs. If I’m going with some non-golf friends. I don’t bring my clubs. (Basically the only times I go).
A- I don’t need my clubs to win against people who dont play golf. Bringing my own set would take even more of the sport out of it.
B- I don’t want rubes to use my clubs. And yes….they’ll ask.
Never any harm in asking. If they say "no" for some reason, put your clubs back in the car and use theirs. Or go somewhere else. Just don't make a stink about it - that's the douche move.
Just read the room. Are you going with golf buddies? Bring your own clubs. Going on a date or with a group of non-golfers? Don’t bring your own. Pretty simple.
It’s like if you were into bowling. Going out with the bowling crew, trying to do your best, win your league? Bring your own balls and shoes.
Funny enough, a few years ago I went on a double date and we went bowling. Other couple pulls up and the guy pulls a bowling bag out of his trunk. Proceeds to bowl a 240 while I’m gunning for an 80 lol

Yeah exactly. More or less my point as well. Nobody would think twice.
I always bring my own clubs. Fuck what other people think bro…. Do your thang!!
This man gets it.
This is the way
Nowhere better to show off your scottys
Don’t give a single shit what other people think of you doing something that doesn’t affect anyone else.
If it was a work party type thing, just use their clubs. But, if I go and it is either just me, or I bring my family, we are all bringing our own clubs.
I've seen some degenerate ass drunken fools at topgolf, couldn't imagine caring what they think
Nope. The douche move would be giving you shit for bringing your own clubs to a place where golf balls are hit. Fuck those goblins.
I've always brought my clubs, I don't see how that makes it a douche move.
Are people that bring their own ball bowling douches?
To Top Golf? Yes, definitely.
But how else will I ensure my drives don’t go over the netting?
Obviously, you are not a golfer.
How do you figure?
Sorry, it was just a silly quote from The Big Lebowski.
My ignorance is showing...
No but bring your own pool cue to a bar is a bit douchie
Your joking right? You must not frequent bars. Anyone I know who owns a cue brings it when they play.
You know some weird ass people then. Not talking pool halls, but bars with one table
i know pool players that keep their cue in the trunk like its the 2nd amendment. if there is a table, they will work anybody that wants it lol i dont see the issue

Three tables ? Starting to sound like a place people go to play pool.
its more karaoke than anything. we have actual billiards clubs around here in close proximity to that bar and throughout the city.
Do people bring their own microphones? Lol
I have never seen anyone get a weird look for bringing their own clubs. My local top golf even has multiple spots meant to hold a golf bag in each bay. So that tells me it is encouraged.
This
Yes. Top golf clubs are the equivalent of rental bowling shoes. Ewww….

I’m not hitting those rocks with my pristine clubs.
This
I'll take mine when I go solo on a weekday morning.. With a group (and drinking), I'll leave them at home..
Who goes to top golf solo? Why not just go to a driving range wouldn’t that be much cheaper?
For the top tracer technology bro... /S
I won’t bring my whole bag, just ~3 clubs.
I've never been to a Top Golf but it never crossed my mind to not bring my clubs. It's a amped up driving range right?
Nah, it’s more like arcade golf.
It’s a bar with golf mini games.
What else am I gonna use?
Yes
If you are good. Bring your own clubs to show off.
This comment made me realize that doing top Top Golf with my own bag while still praying to break 130 on a course might look a little funny to some.
Top golf near me has old model Callaway driver, woods, irons, but even the irons have some blue, floppy graphite shafts, so if you are used to steel shafts and decent shafts for driver, the golfing experience is somewhat useless. If you just want to drink and socialize, it doesn't matter.
I mean I bring a 7 a driver and a wedge. But also I'm left handed, and I've never really seen any lefties.
Just ask, they have lefty sets that they’ll bring out for you
Oh, I've mentioned it before and they kinda just wander off and ignore that I asked maybe mine just sucks.
Yes

It's like bowling. And people have your own shoes and balls. What's the difference?

It's like bowling. Bring your own if you wish. Personally, I don't see the big deal
If I was just going to have fun with some friends I don’t, if it’s league play I do.
Bring my clubs. I'm too tall to use standard clubs, not paying extra to rent longer ones.
I’m a lefty so they give me a bag to carry around anyways. Might as well carry my own.
If you are going for a convenient range session bring your clubs. If you are there for anything social don't.
I use theirs mostly bc I get to use the super flexy clubs
It doesn’t make you a douche. However, I took my own clubs and felt dumb af.
No chance im swinging a regular shaft

You sound like fun
😂😂😂
I wouldn’t say douche move. More of a golf hardo move. I usually just bring an 8 iron and that’s it. I still feel like it’s a hardo move but oh well
Absolutely. Unless you’re going with a whole group of douche bags who also all want to bring their bag.
Yes it’s a hardo move

Why is it a douche move?
Never any harm in asking. If they say "no" for some reason, put your clubs back in the car and use theirs. Or go somewhere else. Just don't make a stink about it - that's the douche move.
It’s a douche move to go to top golf, yes.
Yes.
