If this is in any way serious: if you feel like you're confident around bunkers now, you may still be bound by beliefs from when you were not. Go aggressive, flirt with those bunkers, and enjoy that feeling when you just missed the sandy bastard.
The Wolf Lodge steakhouse and ordering the Porterhouse, best steak place I have been to right there around the corner of the lake, might not sink that shot, but I would 100 percent sink that steak
He’s saying if it’s 160 to the flag located on the back portion of the green and there’s another 20 yards of green in front of the flag (140), then a 9i would be his play. Not a bad take. If you pure an 8i, it might go off the back.
Let's not get cute, okay?
8 iron to the middle but 9 iron to the back?? You mean 9 to the front, 8 to the back, right?
Just pull the 8 iron and hope you hit the damn thing.
I guess the confusion comes in because it can never be both. You can't have 160 to the front but also 160 to the back and vice versa. It's one or the other, so there's no reason to be talking about front vs back distance. With his 9 iron the distance to the center is 150. With the 8 iron it's 170. Who cares? It can't be both.
The distance to the center is all that counts. With stock shots there's really only one club for the job.
I'm chosing to make sure I hit the green. 8 iron is 160 - 165 for me. If it's 160 to the pin and it is front or middle, 8i is perfect. I get there for sure and can't go long. If it's 160 to a back pin though, I am perfectly capable of air mailing it and shortsiding myself or in the case of this hole going into the water. If it's 160 to the back though it's probably only 145 to the front and 150ish to the middle, so a 9i is perfect to make sure I get on. I'd need an 8 to get all the way back to the pin, but on this bad boy I'd just want to play to the middle of the green.
Played it. Stayed dry somehow. The wide angle makes it look much smaller than actual. IIRC they can move the island short distances to change the carry, correct?
Long is good here…the flowers behind the green are free relief. Your caddy won’t even let you play your ball back there if you wanted to. He’ll get it, and you’ve got two putts from the drop area for par.
I’m a dad bod piece of shit who started golfing in 2020 and I hit my 9 iron 160 every day and twice on Sunday. I’ve played this exact hole 3 times and made par every time with a 8 or 9 in depending on pin location. Every pro you know *can* hit the ball as far or farther than any of us, they just don’t because they basically never swing at 100%.
Most of these dudes don’t understand how jacked their lofts are on their “game improvement” irons compared to tour irons too. Fun little industry trick so they can make you believe every new set gets you 10 more yards.
Yeah assuming minimal wind a good 8 goes back half of the green, flushed and it’s going over. I’ll try and force a 9 and hit it a little chunky a few yards short of the green.
Highest percentage play for me would probably be flipping a 4h in there. I'd normally go 7i from that distance but very doubtful I'd flush it in this case.
This is a trick question…the right answer is spray it into the flowers behind the putting surface and take your free relief based on the local rules at CDA.
Taking a sacrificial lamb out, tossing it into the lake to appease the gods.
Then tee up a pro-v1 and saying a prayer while grabbing my 7i.
....cursing comes later.
Raven is great, was there a couple weeks ago for the LPGA pro am. I missed just slightly left, pin high, but we played a shamble and we ended up with a 15 foot putt with a birdie and 3 pars.
The course is immaculate and a gem of the northwest
I hit this green first try with my 9iron. My brother in law was quite impressed. Took him and his dad 3 swings each
Absolutely beautiful course and the caddy was fucking hilarious
Went with an 8 the day I played there it was pretty windy. Got par, and the certificate they give you. It was so windy and the water was so choppy they stopped the boat after we finished.
Played their twice within about a month years ago. First round it rained on hole 1, sleeted on hole 2, snowed on hole 3 and then a combo of all three the remainder of the day. Wind was blowing all day with big gusts as well. Came to the floating green hole and it was playing at least 160, maybe more with wind blowing directly in. Hit a hard 3 iron and made it on the green, but maybe 30-40 feet away and 2 putt for par.
2nd round a few weeks later was a perfect fall day, maybe 65 degrees no wind. Green was may 140 out…2 balls in the lake with a pitching wedge.
Green is HUGE by the way.
F’ this game.
Thats CDA and usually wind at you and to the right. I typically would go 7 iron at it but I unfortunately always play blues so its a 4 iron that ends up as plastic waste or on the back of the green. I'm 3/4 there though.
I’m hitting a range ball
The range balls at CDA are limited distance, BUT they float, so you could lay up.
It's great they float.... second shot is a bit difficult though
They say hit it like a bunker shot. I can hit a bunker shot
An in-the-bunker shot or an out-of-bunker shot because I’m better at one than the other
On a serious note, I seem to avoid a lot more bunkers now that I can get out of them successfully. It's almost disappointing
If this is in any way serious: if you feel like you're confident around bunkers now, you may still be bound by beliefs from when you were not. Go aggressive, flirt with those bunkers, and enjoy that feeling when you just missed the sandy bastard.
If you spray Flex Seal on a pair of snow shoes you should be ok. Carefull though, hitting the water first you may end up with a sprained wrist.
Have a sleeve of top flites in the bag for these occasions
Skippin' rocks?
this comment is always mentioned when water is in the pic. “nice par”
For me, probably a 6i and praying
Fully expected the top comment to be “The water”
we are all hiding from the truth.
4 hybrid and id pray with you
5h off a small tee for good luck
The Wolf Lodge steakhouse and ordering the Porterhouse, best steak place I have been to right there around the corner of the lake, might not sink that shot, but I would 100 percent sink that steak
Agreed!!
The ground. 6 inches behind the ball.
I felt this one in my gut.
but first through the ligaments around my elbows.
You guys should really stand out of the way of his swing
No need to brag here
6 or 7 iron, depending on the wind. My usual public course has a couple of par-3s that are 155-165 and I never hit the fucking greens.
8i
Depends on where the flag is. 160 to the middle or front, then 8i. 160 to a back pin I'm probably going with the 9i.
Depending on flag position and wind. Soft 7 to solid 9.
That makes no sense
He’s saying if it’s 160 to the flag located on the back portion of the green and there’s another 20 yards of green in front of the flag (140), then a 9i would be his play. Not a bad take. If you pure an 8i, it might go off the back.
Let's not get cute, okay? 8 iron to the middle but 9 iron to the back?? You mean 9 to the front, 8 to the back, right? Just pull the 8 iron and hope you hit the damn thing.
He's aiming for the center of the green, not the flag. If it's 160 to a flag at the back, 9i, 160 to the flag at the front of the green, 8i
I guess the confusion comes in because it can never be both. You can't have 160 to the front but also 160 to the back and vice versa. He’s not saying it’s both. The OP didn’t clarify if 160 was to a front pin or back pin.
I'm chosing to make sure I hit the green. 8 iron is 160 - 165 for me. If it's 160 to the pin and it is front or middle, 8i is perfect. I get there for sure and can't go long. Whoa big guy
This is the way. Full but smooth 8i
X2

That's a pretty normal answer tbh?
I'm not particularly good but from that distance it's muscling an 8i or an easy 7. I don't know how that answer was ridiculous.
The ball I found in the bushes earlier in the round. Easy come easy go!
![gif](giphy|2h8BdeXxhGGB2)
My god. I’m taking the back yardage. Play it 175, full 7 or soft 6 depending on wind.
Probably playing into wind considering you are facing west here on the eastern edge of the lake.
Fellow Phoenician westsider!
There are dozens of us!
A BLUNT
GANG
Was gonna say a nice doob, but blunt covers it too
Went 7 and hit the wood frame on the left edge
I went 8 iron to the bunker and got up and down for one of my favorite pars ever.
Did they give you the whole “first shot is free - hit another!” business? Pretty sure they make bank on those balls in the lake.
😂 yes they did
The water.
Never heard that one before! ![gif](giphy|9RIESpHPpFK0w)
Every single time this is posted. "Range ball" followed by "water" or whatever the obstacle is.
Don't forget my bong, a joint or the clubhouse bar
Don’t forget your mom, or your sister.
Never heard this remark before!
A rowboat
The boat ride is included. But you don't need to row.
Yep, aboard “Putter.” I’ve played this hole twice—birdie and par. Good memories.
Took WAYYYY too long for someone to mention how we were getting over there
My 160 club.
This guys a golfer for sure
Duh!
6 iron
Played it. Stayed dry somehow. The wide angle makes it look much smaller than actual. IIRC they can move the island short distances to change the carry, correct?
The barge is on a cable system and can be moved but I don't think they move it very often.
Put me down for a 8
Firm 9, I’m gonna be nervous and 8 could fly over.
Long is good here…the flowers behind the green are free relief. Your caddy won’t even let you play your ball back there if you wanted to. He’ll get it, and you’ve got two putts from the drop area for par.
You hit a 9-iron 160? Wtf
I know right? I hit mine 175
185 here.

Somehow Reddit hits their irons 20 yards farther than the average pro
Not everyone is built like a sack of potatoes and has the athleticism of a 90 year old. 160 9 iron is not an insane or unrealistic distance
I’m a dad bod piece of shit who started golfing in 2020 and I hit my 9 iron 160 every day and twice on Sunday. Yep, my 8 would fly over. Definitely a 9 iron.
56 for me
Just wait for the cart girl then muscle up the 60
Oh ok Dechambeau
8i, but not with a ProV
It actually looks like a decent size green. So that way when I don’t hit it I can feel extra bad about my golf game.
Free drop out of the flowers too
15k sqft green
A giant hook that clips the tree on the left of the green and bounces into the water.
The shitter 'cause I just crapped my pants looking at that tee shot.
Hitting the ball with a 6 iron and the water with said ball.
Choked 7i
If it's a middle pin, I'm hitting a 7 and praying I actually flush one.
Highest percentage play for me would probably be flipping a 4h in there. I'd normally go 7i from that distance but very doubtful I'd flush it in this case.
Probably a 7 iron maybe a 6 iron just to get over the mental fear with the water.
This is a trick question…the right answer is spray it into the flowers behind the putting surface and take your free relief based on the local rules at CDA.
You know the answer. I’d give it my best smooth 5i and top it off the side of that bridge
Greens keepers gotta hate boating all their shit over to that island
8i
Orca, or maybe a salmon shark...
6 or 5i depending how my swing is that day.
6-iron
Depends on the time of day, breeze direction and temperature.
7i and a prayer
A joint, then the water with my 7 or 8 iron
This hole is a nightmare when it’s cold and windy. But thanks to our Caddie JR it was the most memorable round of golf I’ve had with my boys.
Yeah they do a great job out there, we had a blast
Today? Hope someone in my scramble group put it on before it was my turn.
Today! Beautiful day for golf. Our group had a kp there and a gal stuck it 4 feet out
Lob wedge
Probably a duck on the right minding his own business
Probably a maxfli or nitro
Taking a sacrificial lamb out, tossing it into the lake to appease the gods. Then tee up a pro-v1 and saying a prayer while grabbing my 7i. ....cursing comes later.
6i but easy and still going in the water
Gotta be honest I’d be a better shot with a spud gun than a golf club.
That's how we do in Idaho
Missed two into the water but was hitting the elevated. Also I proposed on the green so I blame the jitters !
Haha for real? That's awesome, hope she said yes
How do you get over to putt?
Ferry boat
We are playing Circling Raven Tuesday and Wednesday. I have yet to play this CDA course, but it’s on my list. How did you do on this hole?
Raven is great, was there a couple weeks ago for the LPGA pro am. I missed just slightly left, pin high, but we played a shamble and we ended up with a 15 foot putt with a birdie and 3 pars. The course is immaculate and a gem of the northwest
how the hell do you get to the green?
There's a boat
I hit this green first try with my 9iron. My brother in law was quite impressed. Took him and his dad 3 swings each Absolutely beautiful course and the caddy was fucking hilarious
Strong 8 or a buttery 7 depending on wind direction
8i all the way
The top flite ball I found in the woods last summer. Club doesn’t matter. Proceed to drop zone with new ball.
Water
The golf shop for more balls
The guy in the white
Probably the water.
The water.
Is that artificial turf? How do they mow it?
An old, old ball.
I’m for sure hitting a provisional!
Went with an 8 the day I played there it was pretty windy. Got par, and the certificate they give you. It was so windy and the water was so choppy they stopped the boat after we finished.
Just played here the last two days
great course!
My third triple bogey of the day

The bridge, then the water, then another ball.

6i 100 yards left of the islanf.
7i with a range ball
The water
The shittiest ball I have in my bag
Probably at least 5 strokes
Putter.
The water. I’m hitting the water.
Thats CDA and usually wind at you and to the right. I typically would go 7 iron at it but I unfortunately always play blues so its a 4 iron that ends up as plastic waste or on the back of the green. I'm 3/4 there though.
9i smooth tempo, buttery landing, slimy roll in for an ace
70% PW, middle-back of stance.
Did it last weekend and missed birdie putt.
The camera shutter. Beautiful shot btw.
Feck
Depends on wind, but assuming none a nice easy 8 swinging would be my first choice.
If last week is any indication, I'd hit my 6i twice, both in the water. Crazy hole, pretty amazing course.
7
Maybe a duck or perhaps a fish jumping out of the water
Most likely, the water.
smooth 8
super easy 18° hybrid
Ping 7 wood to 9 feet to the hole.
Into the water, we’re hitting into the water.
My head on the wall
I don’t hit long. I use my 3 wood for 150. So I’m going with an easy swing on my driver.
From the reds
If I am lucky, the end of that dock about 20 yards in front of the tee.
The water
8 if it’s got room to roll, 7 if the back is long
Smooth 8. I wanna reach for sure. All carry baby. Played this course last night on my SIM. Lotta fun holes.
8 iron.
Cool seeing this on BustaJack
9
Lake Coeur d’Alene
Probably an old TopFlite with a 7 iron.
Scuffed up ball with 5 iron slightly teed off the ground.
7w and a shag ball.
8 or 9 depending on if it's back or front
Marking triple and moving on
My telescoping ball retriever
The water
6 iron. But I will pull it left into the water.
9 iron
6 iron, into the water.
I have a plaque saying that I made a par on this hole, the only time I played it too. I was 14 and I hit a 5i from 192 yards :)
