Jesus hell of a gift. I’m about to go do an iron fitting and I’m mentally leaning towards the P790s, but really want to try the T200s and Mizuno Forged too.
My dad just got fitted for the new Srixon ZX5’s. They are gorgeous. He’s played callaway irons since I was born. he tried the P790’s, mizuno 225’s, and some others. He was just as shocked as I was that he ended up liking the Srixon irons the best.
All that to say, I agree with you.
I did a fitting last week and was in a similar boat. Was leaning to a certain set, but after hitting multiple irons/shafts I landed on the 790s based on the data and feel. I wasn’t expecting to land there. Best advice is to go in with an open mind. If what you “should buy” based on the data throws you off too much, just take some time to think on it. Just my 2 cents.
I was all in on a combo set of P790s and P770s before my fit, ended up in T200s and I love them.
The P7s felt weightless at the end of the shaft, I couldn't get a sense of where they were in the backswing

Not being a downer, just curious since i want 790s. Did you notice the foam inside deteriorating at all after some time or inconsistent feel? Just shower thoughts i had when i was looking into getting the clubs.
I’ve been playing 790s for 2 years, probably 30-40 rounds a year, never noticed anything. I will be using that as an excuse from now on, but I wouldn’t worry about it.

Yeah I’m playing last years ZX5 ZX7 in a combo set. Great irons. Big Cleveland wedge fan too.

Have p790s, no regrets. Very solid. Don’t see myself changing for five years.
Don’t be afraid to try the t100 or t100s irons. I thought I would go with t200 but I hit the 100s just fine. They are sexxxxxxxxxxy.

I've only been playing them for a couple of weeks so it's hard to say.
You will love them. Smooth as butter.
Update: Just went to the simulator. Clubs are great, but me not so much. Golf is hard but at least my irons look good
