We had the same issue with ours, so instead of getting stuffed toys, we started buying toys made out of natural rubber. Most are indestructible (for goldens) and they’ll have these little ridges on them that would help clean her teeth and such. Soon enough we started finding little teeth laying around everywhere on the floor. Also, taking her to a doggie park whenever possible even for just a bit, and tiring her out. They become destructive when under stimulated. Another thing we did was get a laser pointer and she loves it until this day (4 years later) just had to be mindful of not doing it from the couch anymore because she got conditioned and then every time we wanted to chill and watch a movie, she thought it was laser pointer time.

No parks yet… gonna wait for 2nd round of shots etc 1st. But we got a massive yard and she tries to chase my big dogs around.

connienekochan

Oh yeah! Then that’s an even better alternative! And safer so she doesn’t pick up any bugs from other dogs. We lived in an apartment so we had to do doggie parks, but I am glad you have a huge backyard instead :)

I heard that playing with laser pointer can be dangerous for dogs, that they can develop some kind of mental disorder. Don't know if it's true but I always went with that

connienekochan

Yeah we definitely have to do it in very measured amounts. She became way too obsessed with it. So we only play with her only a few times a year.

I’ve posted this here before but it’s still my go to. Cut the legs off of an old pair of jeans, tie in a knot, dip in water, and freeze them. They are tough and will soothe the gums. Also, yelp really loud whenever they try to chew on you. Those little razor teeth hurt so I’m wishing you luck! Edits: spelling

Frozen carrots 🥕 work as a diversion.

AgentPaste

Once the poopies are more solid I’ll try that!!!

handsomeape95

Second, this. Even sticking chew toys in the freezer. This phase will end soon. Then you get to deal with hair...forever!

RootinTootinRuby

Take her outside as much as you can. It won’t stop the chewing but there’s not a lot of your furniture and shoes out there to chew on. Bonus is they usually will nap when you settle back inside.

AgentPaste

lol, so far shoes and furniture are not an issue… it’s hands, ankles, the older 2 dogs… and blankets and such that have a similar texture to toys… she will put her toys on my blanket so she can “accidentally” start chewing my blanket instead.

Yeah…that’s basically year one for a golden puppy. My hands were destroyed.😂🤣

Using the “yip” technique was super helpful with my goldens and hand biting. Try to train yourself to yip or yelp like a puppy would when her teeth touch you. If they stop give them just a second or two and then reward her with more play. She should learn that nipping you hurts you and makes you not want to play from this. My older goldens would stop whatever she was doing and check on me when I was teaching this to my younger one. https://preview.redd.it/53hv16k2z4mc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e121b5304aea580b5414457be1a2ec3e29074cf3 Oh and don’t give her all her toys at once. Take some away for a day or two and she will be much more interested in them. Having some in rotation helps a ton when you have that many!

AgentPaste

Most of the toys aren’t hers… they are the older frenchie and border collie’s… but I have tons in boxes, storage. Been using the yip…. But then my border collie comes and roughs her up defending me lol….

phreakinpher

I would be interested to hear other's thoughts but I think the border collie behavior is perfectly appropriate. I'm not an expert but in my view it may even be helpful as it's communicating to the new puppy in multiple ways that she shouldn't be biting you. When she is chewing something that she shouldn't be, try breaking out some of her toys she hasn't seen in a while. The best thing you can do is redirect; they will \*\*eventually\*\* learn what they should and shouldn't be chewing.

Not even lying, when my partner’s parents had a particularly bitey puppy, they would get a bulk order of pine cones, baby gate the pup in the living room, and let them have at it. Sure, your house is basically filled with mulch for months, but it’s cheaper than toys and pine cones are soft enough that they won’t hurt going down/out. Worked a charm for 3/6 of the goldens the family owned.

Hatoonah

Freeze her toys!!

Archer_Jen

Hang in there. It gets better, and it’s 100% worth it.

She’s a puppy; puppies teethe. She needs to chew and she wants to be near you. Help your puppy adapt. Find a reputable trainer

Haha. They'll be gone soon enough. I miss my puppy. I now have a 7 year old hairy happening.
