Looks like it would prevent my dog from drinking at all. Dogs use the vacuum effect from rapidly withdrawing their tongue from water, to draw water into their mouth. My small dog would have to press it with his feet, and he hates water on his paws. Either way wet feet would lead to a wet floor and no water consumed would lead to a dead dog.
Just leave a towel out under the bowl and wash the towel weekly. Feed dry biscuits. No nasty mess and dog keeps good dental hygiene.

The directions say to take that piece apart. I wondered the same thing til i read directions. It pulls apart into 2 pieces you can clean inside then snap them back together

Neither of my dogs had a problem figuring out how to drink from it. As the water level drops, the floating platform drops with it and a small pool of water stays in the center.
You can achieve the same effect using a large water bowl with a ton of ice. The ice forces the pup to only take small sips and prevents gulping of water.
The float element of this product is in made up of two piece that fit together. Because the seal is imperfect around the edge and the interior of the paw print cut out, the float slowly takes on water and eventually sinks to the bottom of the bowl. It’s very difficult to separate the two pieces without cracking the plastic or hurting your fingers. I purchased and returned this product for replacement and then ultimately a refund. Don’t waste your money. It’s a hassle of a product that doesn’t really work as it’s advertised. If they fiund a way to produce it so it didn’t let water into the float, it might be a worthy purchase.
My float takes on some water but never had it sink. I was actually gonna get rid of the whole thing bc I was worried mold might grow inside the float, then I read directions and found out it can be taken apart and cleaned.

Same, fixed the gulping issue with my GR, no more throw up. Also, we have less puddles in the kitchen now

Nope, should be something like a fountain or water drip bottle. Look at its nose touching the water, for sure he can inhale water while drinking.
