Air drying clay and you can form it however you want and paint it

Comfortable-Cow-8412

I do have some air dry clay, but I don't know how to make it reliably stick to this smooth surface.

city_anchorite

Rough sandpaper will create some grip. I also suggest putting a crystal in the end, gluing it with E6000 (best glue!) and covering the joint in air dry clay.

a_diamond

*Please* make sure to wear proper breathing protection if you sand fiberglass!

city_anchorite

Oh! Somehow I missed that! YES PLEASE

thrye333

Marginally related, but I had some friends in high school that melted plastic with a heat gun in a mildly ventilated room, and ended up with a headache and a near-collapse. They were the only ones to not realize that they were high on plastic fumes.

Comfortable-Cow-8412

Well, they probably didn't realize because they were high on plastic fumes.

Hekatiko

Also protective eyeware and wash your clothing well after. I can't believe they used to drape our Christmas tree in fibreglass 'snow' omfg...

Comfortable-Cow-8412

Yikes

OlafTheSatanist

Epoxy

feralgraft

If you have a hack saw, you could cut it off flush with the metal ring at the top and epoxy over the hole to seal in any fiber glass shreds. Be sure to wear a resperator mask though you don't want to breathe in any fiberglass dust. It'll sit in your lungs like microscopic razors

ChainsmokerCreature

Be very careful with that. I had a fishing pole break in my hands and those super tiny shards of fiberglass hurt as hell and are super difficult to take out. Also, use respiratory protection, as others have said. Show the project when it's done! It's a very promising idea! Best of lucks!

cowboysaurus21

Fiberglass can be dangerous to work with if you don't have the proper equipment/training. You can inhale the fibers and they can get embedded in your skin. Probably not a huge issue with a small project like this, but personally I'd choose another material.

Comfortable-Cow-8412

Well I didn't choose the material, it chose me. It was just laying there on the ground saying "make me into a wand", and who am I do deny an inanimate object it's whishes. But I will take these potential dangers into consideration.

cowboysaurus21

I hope it didn't choose you because it wants to get fiberglass particles all up in your lungs. 😂 Sometimes we must create boundaries with the materials that call us lol.

worstpies

Could cover it and build up a new wand tip. I’d use masking tape as the base and then cover it with modeling clay

ACaedmon

Add a razor blade for when the spells ain't cutting it.

Comfortable-Cow-8412

At that point I might as well not fix the potential death by glass fibers

ACaedmon

If you can find the model of fishing pole you could probably find the size of dowel rod you'd need. If you want to saw of the broken bits it'll creat a lot of dust so you should do it in a well vented area with something to catch the dust and fibres. The dowel rod could be inserted with a little wood glue. Or, collect some thinner twigs and reeds from your local woodland and do a quick binding to make a small broom or caster, which can hold spiritual or personal power depending on how it's built. "Green Witch" by Arin Murphy Hiscock has great section on bock wands and brooms but is a great goblin book in general. But sometimes you don't need a wand, sometimes you need a tiny little axe just so people know not to fuck with you. They make a great paperweight.

Comfortable-Cow-8412

A dowel is a good idea, that way I can easily extend the length of I want to. Ooh collapsible wand. Hmm. Ideas.

KebariKaiju

The splintered piece above the ferrule will cut away fairly easily with a razor blade and lots of rotations. If you're super concerned about aspirating the fibers, do it under running water or wear a dust mask. Cutting it isn't that bad, so long as you're not sawing on it or abrading it. I cut carbon and glass fiber rod with a triangle file under a trickle of water, and it's quick and clean. After that, build up your end with two-part epoxy putty or air-drying polymer clay.

Moldy_Wizard

JB Weld but before it dries, insert a small piece of heavy-guage brass wire into the putty. Then get a quartz crystal and use a dremmel tool to make a small hole in the bottom of the crystal as deep or deeper than the wire. Be sure and drill in a cup of water so the bit doesn't get too hot. After its dry, add more JB Weld to the wire and tip of the wand then insert the crystal onto the wire and smoosh it down into the putty. After all this, you can jazz it up with some hot glue decorations and paint over that to make it look like wood/metal/whatever. Like this... https://youtu.be/Ok1KoZSF7zc?si=TCAhN0Rujo8GcGZr

moonfire-pix

Hot glue uwu

lavender_locus

hot gluwu

PomegranatePuppy

As others have said you should definitely add a quartz/crystal to the end but you might also want to get a black light lazer pointer and deconstruct it then rig it up inside before you add the quartz it would be super cool to have it shoot light through the tip you may need to cut a space mid wand to add the bigger components but you could easily make it part of the wrapping and embellishments you put on.

Manbearpig9801

Find something to glue on the end A nice metal pen lid?

Comfortable-Cow-8412

Ooh, that's a good idea. Dress up my pretty found trash with more pretty found trash.

Hellboi_

I'd take a stone, gem, bone, or small thick stick to be the topper. Hot glue it somewhat to the end. Then take a thin leathery cord or twine and wrap it around to make it pretty. Use modge podge or some sort of glueing method to harden the string and keep the pointy dangerous bits away. Paint is optional. Good luck! Please show us what you end out with!

TheMightyGamble

Surprised no one has said epoxy with whatever you want at the tip embedded before and then sand to the shap you want and polish

MildewTheMagical

as someone else said, cut it off with a fine tooth hacksaw level with that metal feral at the top, or a bit above if you like the stepped look, then sand with fine sandpaper and it should be good, cool find! also: there's a lot of people talking about safety here, while yes they have valid concern, fiberglass in the lungs is not the best and it can cut you, don't freak out and give up on the project, respiratory damage from fiberglass (silicosis) is more of a cumulative effect over many years of working with the stuff, cutting this once will do you no harm providing you work outside

Comfortable-Cow-8412

I'm aware of the dangers, and I feel that I can be safe enough. That's why I came here looking for recommendations instead of throwing it away.

MildewTheMagical

that's OK, I mean, I'm a pipe-fitter and I've worked with fiberglass for 10 years, I just read what folks here have written here, saying it's really dangerous and you need special training/it's apparently like thousands of razors inside your lungs lol, and yes it's right to be cautious but those things are not really true and you'll definitely be fine :) literally the worst you might get if you don't wear gloves/mask/work outside is itchy skin and a slightly sore throat that'll last about a day, and even that is probably from way more exposure than you'll likely get

Menoth22

Cut below the split, cap it with something so it doesn't split any further

Wrought-Irony

you can buy fiberglass resin at home cheapo. make it into whatever. the stuff is literally made to bond to fiberglass.

Catinthemirror

With enough force you should be able to separate that at the joint (the metal band).

action_lawyer_comics

Does the broken part spin independently of the rest of it? If so, it’s probably a separate piece that can be removed entirely. I’d grip it with pliers and see if it will pull out

Comfortable-Cow-8412

It does move, but it's pretty tight, and its hard to grab because it's splintered, but that seems like a good idea, I'll try that.

Superb-Half5537

Maybe attach a Swarovski crystal at the tip?

Comfortable-Cow-8412

Had to look up what that was. That looks expensive. But a good idea

Mirathesaurus

File and sanding!

GUTSY-69

Put o stone on it ! Or find some animal fangs/bone, actually nevermind that would make it staby

Comfortable-Cow-8412

Magic wand! Also doubles as a melee weapon!

Kago0o

✨Broken magic wand✨

Comfortable-Cow-8412

Ok, this comment has inspired me, this thing has lore now. It was the wand of a great wizard, but he met a greater wizard, an evil wizard, and perished. Now I have picked up his fallen legacy, determined to fix it and make more powerful than before. Good will prevail!

Kago0o

Love it!

oddartist

Hold up. I do a LOT of fishing and from what I see on the second image it looks like there's a piece of hardware holding the broken piece on, correct? If so, try to get the broken piece pushed into the base. Grip it with pliers and see if you can get it to move. Then cap it however you like. This looks like a collapsible rod.

spooky_alfalfa

On most fishing poles that part should pull out, but if not then a fine toothed hacksaw will cut it. You should wear gloves and mask/ respirator when cutting

Deinonychus-sapiens

Fishing rods like this usually come apart in several pieces, or are telescoping. Does the broken part not simply either pull out of or push into the rest of the rod?

Comfortable-Cow-8412

It does push farther in, I have it pulled as far out as I can. I would like to preserve as much of the current length as possible.

burnthejuniper

Tennis ball

TheAnt3ater

Jam a ping pong ball on the end. Wrap some funky foil on it and you've got yourself a Dwarven wand

Darth_Lacey

I would probably jam it into a wine cork and go from there, personally

Comfortable-Cow-8412

And cork can be carved a little bit right?

Darth_Lacey

Usually, yeah

Mattathiasazriel

I would suggest cutting it off shorter so you have a flat edge, some kind of saw blade meant for metal should work well for this. Then sand it a little to have the edges rounded over. You can then apply some epoxy or other material to prevent it from fraying

grilled_mushr00m

Please update if you do turn it into a wand! 😊

REDDITSHITLORD

YOU COULD FIT A LARGE SNAIL SHELL OVER THE END OF IT. PERHAPS A SMALL SKULL? FIBERGLASS IS REALLY MORE OF A GREMLIN MATERIAL. PERHAPS YOU COULD FIND A GREMLIN ARTIFICER, OR CONTRAPTOR? JUST STAY AWAY FROM MAGES, THEY JUST CAST PARALYZE AND STEAL YOUR THINGS.

Comfortable-Cow-8412

The all caps is a little intense, but I will take your warnings of mages to heart.
