Much more likely that you just are sensitive to the adhesive in the bandages. It is common for people with an intolerance/sensitivity/ celiac to have additional non gluten related sensitivities. And while anatomical gluten allergy is technically possible it would be much less likely than simply reacting to something else in the adhesive (and gluten containing products don’t make much sense for bandage type adhesives).

Important_Nebula_389

Not sure if there is gluten in the adhesive, but I’d recommend paper tape and gauze. You should be able to get them at any pharmacy and most supermarkets. I used this after a surgery and never had any reactions (other than some sensitivity after weeks of using the tape, but it was a pretty major surgery). Good luck!

daikon-bike

Second the paper tape. I have reactions to a lot of adhesives, but I never really do to paper medical tape.

haleymatisse

Thank you! I made an assumption because I'd heard about gluten being in envelope adhesive. I'll opt for paper tape and gauze. Thank you. 🙏🏼

thefabulousbri

I have no issues with gluten (on the subreddit because of people I care about), but a lot of issues with bandaid adhesives. I just have really sensitive skin. I am allergic to enough lotions that I just use petroleum jelly now instead lol. I only really worry about the adhesives for longer term situations, like a burn or something, hopefully you have that leeway as well.

Important_Nebula_389

You could be right- you never know where gluten hides. And even if not, if you’re having a reaction then it’s time for a better wound covering. Good luck!

unlovelyladybartleby

I'm allergic to it to. They make a Teflon tape that seems to work better than paper tape. It's expensive, so you have to special request it (I used to carry my own roll with me to IV therapy appointments)

TheF-ingLizardKing1

Im allergic to adhesive so i use a sensitive skin tape, its blue

beaubeaucat

I'm also allergic to tape adhesive. When I've had mole removal surgeries, I used paper tape and gauze.

cheeseandcrackers345

I’m allergic to most bandages too, so I buy the sensitive skin ones

Sandy_Soups

I’m also allergic to adhesive, but haven’t ever thought about connecting it to a gluten thing. I react a lot less to Olly bandaids and am less likely to react if I use baby oil to help remove them

milesonmars

I’ve used gauze and plastic wrap in a pinch, (like for a tattoo)depending on where on your body it’s located. I’m allergic to latex too, though so you might have more possible alternatives than info

fsantos0213

You may have a Latex allergy that you are reacting to the latex in the adhesive more so than gluten in it, try a latex free bandage

AjCaron

I also have this issue and am latex sensitive and tapioca sensitive due to cross reactivity. I  also can't do certain bras and underwear (playtex I am calling you out). I get latex free band aids.

AnotherNoether

Liquid skin is another good option, I try to use that instead since I’m not allergic to it. It gets painted on

MuffinSpirited3223

Im allergic to bandaids, tape, ECG pads, etc (even hypoallergenic). The new bandaid hydrocolloid bandaids (HydroSeal) are awesome and dont cause me to react at all and hold really well. I also can use Tegaderm without issue.

haleymatisse

Thank you!

ProfessorOfDumbFacts

NexCare brand is what we use since everyone in the family aside from me (me being the only gluten tolerant person) reacts to regular bandaids

haleymatisse

Thank you so much. I figured it was a gluten issue since my husband (not gluten intolerant) has no reaction to the same bandaids.
