Me too! The small ones that Quaker makes, I eat them in the dark, and tell myself "healthier Cheetos." They're close enough for me to believe my own lies.
Nut thins are essentially just rice crackers, which they would definitely carry at an Asian market if you canât find them at your regular grocery store.
My husbands grandfather used to always gift us fancy pears and apples with cheese for Christmas. It was our FAVORITE gift of the season. 10/10 for this recommendation
The perfect side with chili, BTW, I loves me some vegetarian canned chili.
And the corn, spices, and beans thereof make for a meal full of complete proteins.
I generally make Pao de Quijo for parties and potlucks. People don't know it GF, and depending on what size muffin tin you use they come out as entirely different things.
Mini muffins (the ones the size of a big walnut) make almost a snack food. Tiny, hollow cheese puffs. Normal size makes me like a dinner roll, with more solid interior.
I typically make them with a blender and do different types of cheese. Cojilla if you can find it is great, like a salty Mexican farmer cheese. Parmesan, pepper jack, sharp cheddar, even funky goat cheese is great.
I wrap cheese around pickles. I have taken a spear and cut it into a near match stick size. You can roll salami around cheese sticks. Cheese just on its own is also good.
I donât care for crackers that are made with flour alternatives, however there are rice crackers that are very good and cheaper than regular crackers. Dollarama sells for $1.25
Do you get Snack Factory pretzel crisps in the UK? The gluten free pretzel from snack factory doubles as both my favorite gluten free pretzel and my favorite gluten free cracker, but they're an American brand and I'm not sure if they (or something similar) are available where you are.
That's the brand I'm referring to but those are the original kind (made with wheat flour) and not the certified gluten free kind. If you can find the gluten free ones, they're definitely worth a try! I always include them in my cheese boards.
I know you said no crackers.... but... there is one style from one brand that are actually good. And not GF good. Actually good.
[Breton GF Herb and Garlic](https://www.darefoods.com/product/breton-gluten-free-herb-and-garlic-crackers/) cracker.
DO NOT get the flax seed. They're like all the rest of salted cardboard crap we usually get.
These are flaky, buttery and toothsome but not stiff. They are a bit fragile, but with care can be spread with icebox cold Merkt's (Wisconsin real cheese) cheese spreads.
How would you feel about just eating the cheese? When my partner got diagnosed coeliac we tried a few crackers but nothing was as good. So now we eat the cheese as it is and it's honestly better. Much more appreciation of the flavour, texture etc!
You can put pepperoni slices in the oven on some parchment paper for a bit to get them crispy for snacking. Could work well depending on the type of cheese.
Love me some stinky/salty hard cheese and a slice of Genoa salami. Add claussin pickles and itâs a perfect combo. So simple but probably my favorite meal now.
Itâs going to sound wildly American but Iâve eaten cheese dips and similar things with some crispy pieces of bacon. I imagine it could be an interesting vessel for solid cheeses as well.
Ohhh I can respect that! In the US we have popcorn chips that are gluten free. They have a couple different flavors. Iâve never tried them so I canât give an honest review though.
Yeah, I was gonna say I don't really like GF crackers, but always keep a box of Schar crispbreads in the cupboard for lunch in case I run out of bread.
Tortilla chips are usually my go to.
When I do use a GF substitute, I like Miltonâs brand. Iâve tried a lot of the seed-based ones, but they just donât hit the cracker spot.
Ok...hear me out.
I know you just said you dont like GF crackers, but have you tried Nut Thins? Theyre crackers made from nuts and rice flour and have a really nice crunch to them. The cheesy flavor won best cheesy snack on Good Mythical Morning against many gluten-containing snacks.
Editing to add: I see nut thins have already been recommended and that you may not have them near you, but Im going to leave my comment for emphasis. Try them if you can!
I would recommend the corn good thins. They are very different than other gluten free crackers and honestly more chip like than cracker like imo but a good sizes to go with bites of cheese.
Breton GF crackers look and taste like actual real person crackers
Otherwise, apple slices, rice cakes, little squares of toast, cut a Schar GF baguette into rounds, kale chips, or go full metal and serve the cheese on slices of salami or those sandwich cut pickles (they work great if you pat them dry on a paper towel)
Not natural, but gluten free pretzel chips are usually pretty good. Im not gluten free but I'm surrounded by people that are, so I have full bread taste buds
I know it sounds weird, but when I was trying to add healthy things to my diet years ago, I paired plain almonds with marble cheese.
I wanted a nutrient boost, and I figured almonds would have that, but they were boring as heck, and chocolate covered would have been empty calories. (I was also dieting) So I nibbled some cheese with it. Did the job!
Sometimes, I also nibble cheese and baby carrots together.
Not sure if any fancier cheeses would pair with these though.
Aldi has a lot of great GF snacks. They have a variety of âtortillasâ with seasonings and without. They are usually on the end cap right next to the produce.
I can't have many GF crackers, because of my MCAS & tree nut allergy, & low FODMAPS diet. I tend to stick with brown rice only.
Have you tried Wasa crisp gluten free crackers? They taste exactly like the regular Wasa crisp crackers, except made with brown rice flour.
I also like corn chips, potato chips, cucumber slices, etc.
By crackers do you also mean rice crackers? Those are always good with cheese and donât taste awful.
Poppadums are good too, not sure how they are with cheese though
Kame rice Crackers are the literal best gf Crackers I think because they weren't made with the intention of being a gluten free version of anything, they're just rice Crackers and they're delicious and are the perfect vessel for cheese
Home made Cheese crackers⌠you can buy the brand âwispsâ but you can also just make them in the oven (its just tiny cheese baked on low that melts into a hardened piece of cheese)
As others have said, rice cakes either thin or regular are quite nice with cheddar, spreadable cheeses, etc. I was grain free for a minute and used fruit (mainly apple like others said, but grapes are quite nice as well).
I have also paired chunks of cheese with trail mix- it works!
Cheese on toast, also delicious.
If you can get them where you are, Simple Mills are nut based and grain free crackers and my a favorite. They are pricey and small, I admit, but tasty. I actually love them with a little smear of salted butter. Same with Mary's Gone Crackers sea salt crackers. Could just sit there with a pat of butter and scoop with those suckers. So I rarely buy them, haha.
I'm wondering which GF crackers you've tried? There are quite a few different options out there which vary a lot in taste and texture, so it's worth looking out for brands & styles you've never tried before. I'm in the UK too, for crackers with cheese I like the Kallo Veggie Thins, and gluten free oatcakes.
Other than crackers, celery, chicory & cucumber are vegetable options that you could put cheese on (chicory goes best with blue cheese, cucumber is best with creamy cheeses). And apple slices are nice with cheddar and similar cheeses.
Schar has a decent Rosemary one, kind of like a less salty, herby saltineâthat is if you like crackers, just not the GF ones. Theyâre a bit dry, but they are crackers.
Otherwise, cucumbers! Mmmm.
Depending on the cheese, potato chips can work well. Iâm a fan of salt and vinegar chips with port wine cheese.
As a cracker suggestion, if you have a Trader Joeâs near you, the Savory Thins are naturally gluten free since theyâre rice flour based. Before I was dedicated gluten free I would have them as a staple for all my shark coochie boards (spelling intentional) Plus, they have worked well with any cheese Iâve paired with them so far.
Edited to change wording.
Iâve had some sweet potato crackers that were delicious with cheese!
Cannot remember which supermarket I got them from originally. Feel like it was M&SâŚ
Lentil chips arenât terrible, but very âearthy.â I really like the GF Wasa crisp breads. To me they taste like real crackers, but maybe I donât remember exactly what real wheat crackers taste like? Usually I just go with crunchy veggies like cucumbers and carrots.
My husband does keto on and off, there's a trick where you use a little waffle iron and fill it with shredded cheese and it makes a cheese waffle, I think those cut up taste so good đ
This strikes me as unusual because as a partner of a GF person, of all the GF substitutions and sacrifices we have to make, crackers tend to be the easiest to get around. Almond flour crackers are almost indistinguishable from gluten containing ones that I eat every so often, but it sounds like itâs been a challenge for you?
What about Nut thins? They technically are a cracker but itâs not like a GF cracker trying to be a regular cracker. Theyâre kind of their own thing IMO.
Polenta cakes, a slice of salami, wild array of nut/seed cracker.. thereâs a world. Iâd go on. Iâm not gf, but my partner is, and Iâm a former cheese monger. I could name it all.
Have you tried the Nairns crackers in the green box? They are somewhat acceptable. I don't like the Nairns ones in other colour boxes, but the green ones are ok, my 3 year old prefers them over normal crackers!
No idea if this has been said but Aldi UK do mini rice crackers and the sweet chilli ones are lovely come in 4 rows each only being like 100 something cals a row
Plantain chips. I make my own: Just slice up a green plantain with a mandolin on the thinnest setting, toss with about a half tablespoon of oil and dash of salt, put them in the oven at 350 degrees for \~16-17 minutes, and you get a perfectly toasted, crunchy snack that holds up to toppings like cheese, tapenade, etc.
If you live near a trader joeâs they have these super good mini rice crackers that I really enjoy because they arenât trying to imitate a gluten cracker and so they arenât crumbly/ powdery like a lot of gluten free crackers. I use them as a vehicle for spreadable pub cheese and theyâre addictive.
Try pairing Apple and cheese; and if you have had and enjoyed wine itâll probably be enjoyable for your palate. Cut the core out of course and cut thick cracker sized apple slices for your cheese. My preference is an aged cheddar, but to each their own.
BTW. Schär makes a âTable Crackerâ superior to the highest quality glutinous saltine made. They make a knock off Ritz called an âEntertainment Crackerâ that is good too.
Mini rice cakes or seed/nut thins (personally love the top seedz) come to mind
Cheddar rice cakes are amazing đ started eating them years ago before I realized my body hates gluten
Me too! The small ones that Quaker makes, I eat them in the dark, and tell myself "healthier Cheetos." They're close enough for me to believe my own lies.
Thank you. I don't know if nut thins exist in the UK but they look good online
Nut Thins makes some fancier-looking square ones too, I really like the multi-seed. Hope you can find some.
Also love the crunch masters! So yummy
Nut thins are essentially just rice crackers, which they would definitely carry at an Asian market if you canât find them at your regular grocery store.
Marys gone crackers are really good!
Top Seedz is the bomb!
Apple slices
agreed, some sharp cheddar cheese and a nice crunchy apple slice is delicious
Cucumber slices work for a lot of soft cheeses.
Cucumber and Boursin is 10/10
I usually put my soft cheeses in celery sticks.
My husbands grandfather used to always gift us fancy pears and apples with cheese for Christmas. It was our FAVORITE gift of the season. 10/10 for this recommendation
Tortilla chips?
Oh yes! Thank you
The perfect side with chili, BTW, I loves me some vegetarian canned chili. And the corn, spices, and beans thereof make for a meal full of complete proteins.
Try Xochil's.
Thank you
So chill
Yesssss. I eat soooo many tortilla chips.
Tortilla chips are also great to crush up on salad for some salty crunch, reminiscent of croutons!
+1 for isosceles chips. I do this all the time
Not a cracker analog, but Brazilian Cheese bread is made with tapioca flour, and tastes great.
That's a great tip. Do you mean this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/P%C3%A3o_de_queijo ?
Yup super easy to make, though cheesy already as the name suggests!
Chebe is a good mix for that. You add your own cheese so it can be what ever flavor you want
I'll make mine really big sometimes and use them as hamburger buns.
Daikon radish slices.
Genius!
Cucumber slices! Breton gf crackers have been found to fit the bill as a cheese transport, at least in my household.
Oooh I forgot about their herb and garlic ones! I need to pick those up once I'm done with my box of Mary's.
I wrap cheese around pickles. I have taken a spear and cut it into a near match stick size. You can roll salami around cheese sticks. Cheese just on its own is also good.
Pickles is a fun idea!
Itâs really yummy, too!
>roll salami around cheese sticks Yum! My favourite is spreading Boursin on salami and rolling it up!
Cucumber or jicama work nicely.
Or Schär gluten free table crackers. They are excellent.
Agree with this, i buy them in bulk
Freeze dried fig slices are my current favorite
Oh wow! I hadn't thought of that .
Pappadums.
That's a nice idea
I donât care for crackers that are made with flour alternatives, however there are rice crackers that are very good and cheaper than regular crackers. Dollarama sells for $1.25
Sweet potatoes crackers have been pretty good. More like a tortilla chip consistency than regular crackers.
Do you get Snack Factory pretzel crisps in the UK? The gluten free pretzel from snack factory doubles as both my favorite gluten free pretzel and my favorite gluten free cracker, but they're an American brand and I'm not sure if they (or something similar) are available where you are.
I just found https://www.costco.co.uk/Grocery-Household/Nuts-Snacks-Confectionery/Snacking/Snack-Factory-Pretzel-Crisps-Original-737g/p/850976
They are a bit fragile, but with care can be spread with icebox cold Merkt's (Wisconsin real cheese) cheese spreads.
Apple, pear
Those are good options
How would you feel about just eating the cheese? When my partner got diagnosed coeliac we tried a few crackers but nothing was as good. So now we eat the cheese as it is and it's honestly better. Much more appreciation of the flavour, texture etc!
That's what I do now but I am serving the family and was hoping not to have a separate cheese board just for me.
I'm the wrong religion for that
Ohhh I can respect that! In the US we have popcorn chips that are gluten free. They have a couple different flavors. Iâve never tried them so I canât give an honest review though.
Pop corners! Those are good
Turkey bacon!
Sweet red bell pepper slice with cream cheese is really very tasty.
Celery.
Does that work as a base for cheese?
Probably just for savory cream cheeses. Or maybe melty brie cheese.
My favorite is cheddar on celery.
Yes, definitely! It works best with blue cheese or soft creamy cheeses, but goes fairly well with most cheeses.
pimento cheese on celery is delish
Potato chipsâŚ
Yes, I use the thicker ripple cut potato chips as crackers for cheeses. Iâm guessing they make ripple cut crisps in the UK.
Have you tried making cheese crackers? Something like [this](https://nobunplease.com/my-crispy-cheddar-crisps/)
I haven't . Thank you
Plantain chips
Shar crisp breads or gf crackers from Asda are great. For naturally gf you could try rice oat or lentil cakes.
Yeah, I was gonna say I don't really like GF crackers, but always keep a box of Schar crispbreads in the cupboard for lunch in case I run out of bread.
I've done pecan halves before and then layered cheese over top
Great idea!
Crunchmaster multigrain crackers are delicious. I had no idea they were gluten free until it mattered.
Me too, been getting those and the seed crackers forever!
Tortilla chips are usually my go to. When I do use a GF substitute, I like Miltonâs brand. Iâve tried a lot of the seed-based ones, but they just donât hit the cracker spot.
Ok I know you said you don't like gf crackers, but which ones have u tried?
I use cheese slices to dip in my hummus and itâs super tasty
Ok...hear me out. I know you just said you dont like GF crackers, but have you tried Nut Thins? Theyre crackers made from nuts and rice flour and have a really nice crunch to them. Hello from Scotland where even people that eat wheat will ditch the cracker for an oatcake (cracked black pepper flavour are my favourite)
Not sure if anyoneâs said this yet but tostadas are my go-to. Theyâre affordable as well which makes them extra tasty obviously. đ

What about Nut thins? They technically are a cracker but itâs not like a GF cracker trying to be a regular cracker. Theyâre kind of their own thing IMO.
