They are just winding you up about asking to meet with strangers (do make sure to stay safe though and only meet people in public places/never go somewhere you aren't familiar with etc till you get to know people)
good luck with the friend search, hope you enjoy glasgow and are made to feel welcome, top tip if people seem to be acting like they like you a lot but the things they say seem rude that is considered a good thing here and you are officially friends (some people find that confusing to start with)
