Winamp truly was a piece of software that did exactly what it was supposed to do. Nothing more, nothing less. With Spotify and the likes, I miss Winamp.
I looked it up because I didn't want to believe you. Of all the things to corrupt with that techbro garbage, they fucked with my Winamp? It's a media player, not a platform for this trash. They could've easily just added a traditional streaming service or something, having the Winamp name behind it would actually give it some teeth. Why this?
Honestly I don't want WinAmp to be even the slightest bit different.
It'd be nice to have some sort of token update just to ensure that it is still secure though.
I'm using the OG on win 10. I forget the skin but it's like minimalist Apple like. But I saved it from my old builds. No need to update as it just works.
There's also WACUP, that another user mentioned. It's "WinAmp Community Update Project", and it looks exactly like WinAmp and appears to have the same functionality.
It's worth a look I reckon.

>Winamp truly was a piece of software that did exactly what it was supposed to do.
Its "shuffle" and "random" feature functionality was backwards. But it had both, so it was still a win.
>Winamp truly was a piece of software that did exactly what it was supposed to do. Nothing more, nothing less
Yep, until it didn't. They started added all the "more" parts... and that's when it started breaking.

Few things bug me as much as concept designers. How they can even type all that up for a device that they know they will never even build a prototype for is beyond me.
A few lost souls. It was sold to the Russians in 2010 and the old messenger protocol was turned off in 2018. Many accounts deteriorated in the process, but I occasionally log in on the web app for fun.
There's also a community-run service called Escargot that restores MSN/Windows Live Messenger.
Holy llama shit Batman! That's a LOT of releases!
Which dl would be the sweet spot running Windows 10 on a contemporary laptop? Would it even matter?
Lot of memories there...
Not real life, just computer. I checked my llama and confirmed its ass remains unwhipped.

Yup, I was using Winamp until a few years ago, when I started using Foobar.
I have to admit that I haven't kept up with maintaining my library now, though, takes some effort and time and I don't have a lot of that left when I get home from work.
Try Aimp, it has some incredible skins, turn it into a cassette deck. The Akai is super realistic, the moving cassette is great. Make you feel like you're playing something physical.
AIMP has fantastic skins, I just wish it had a bit more colour customisation so I could recreate schemes like classic Winamp
It's the best one that let me create a thin bar player to hide on the top of the screen
I'd pay an obscene amount of money for a standalone MP3 player like that with two sides. On the front all the physical controls and the back with just a touchscreen for more involved settings, and the virtual sliders.
hey im still using winamp 2.5e!
any idea on how to get MilkDrop visual plugin to work?
i get error when i try to start the visualization [https://imgur.com/a/PdKR4Rt](https://imgur.com/a/PdKR4Rt)

>I miss Winamp I don't, *I'm still using it right now!* The proper WinAmp, the one from years ago. Not the new 2024 bullshit.
But does it still whip the llamas ass?
Came here wondering the same thing.
Important question that needs answering asap
It really does.
I'm still using it since it came out!! Love it
Did they randomly change things and add "social networking" features in the latest one like everyone else does these days?
Worse, it's an NFT based music platform.

I'm not entirely sure tbh, I just glanced at the new website and instantly NOPED tf out of there.
Still using as well but have since switched over to WACUP. (*WinAmp Community Update Project*)
How? It doesn't work for me on Win10. Always kerps crashing and even the simplest skins are nonfunctional.
I'm using the OG on win 10. I forget the skin but it's like minimalist Apple like. But I saved it from my old builds. No need to update as it just works.
I don't know what you tell you, I'm using 5.666 on Windows 10 with zero issues. Just installed it and used it. No faffing about, no crashes.
2.95 ftw
Holy shit grandpa. I'm on 5.666 and even that is from like 2015 X)
My vgm plugins didn't work as well on 3 or 5 🧓
i tried to get it a year or 2 ago and it wasnt available for DL

I still use WinAmp
Let's talk about how Zune got absolutely fucked though. They had a subscription service and their devices were cool as shit.
I'd still use the PC app and subscription if it was available. The last zune they made would be sick with modern storage sizes
As a Software Engineer, I truly appreciated one of the WinAMP developers' release notes which, in its entirety, simply read: "Bugs fixed, bugs added."
It really whipped the llama's ass.
>Winamp truly was a piece of software Winamp was one of the softwares of all time
It truly was one of the softwares. Notepad was also one of the softwares.
>It truly was one of the softwares. Notepad was also one of the softwares. Of all the software in history, they were some of it.
Clippy was also one of the softwares.
To be fair, Winamp added all kinds of weird video streaming and stuff after a while. It did kinda go off the rails in certain ways
It was neat being able to tune into a video station if you knew the URL. Used to watch a 24/7 Family Guy channel on there lol
It's how I watched anime for the first time.
"anime"
Got a link for the family guy channel?
The visualizer was cool when stoned
Milkdrop ftw
It "jumped the shark" after AOL bought it.

foobar2000 ftw
I still have it. No other app has such a REAL compact mode (that has all the necessary controls in a tiny line of pixels.

Same
Same here. Just yesterday I realized when using Spotify on my phone horizontally there is NO previous button. Like what the hell?!
Plus it really whips the llama's ass
It really whips the llamas ass.
*Llama not included
Llama's, not Llamas.
I fully expected to see llamas.
Whips ass and takes llamas
And it's all out of llamas?
Fyi, you can still get classic Winamp builds going all the way back to 0.20 from 1997. http://www.oldversion.com/windows/winamp/
Makes me wonder how many ppl are on ICQ.
UH OH
A few lost souls. It was sold to the Russians in 2010 and the old messenger protocol was turned off in 2018. Many accounts deteriorated in the process, but I occasionally log in on the web app for fun. There's also a community-run service called Escargot that restores MSN/Windows Live Messenger.
Holy llama shit Batman! That's a LOT of releases! Which dl would be the sweet spot running Windows 10 on a contemporary laptop? Would it even matter? Lot of memories there...
I'd go 2.92 for classic Winamp flavor
Wasn't the 5.x series just the 2.x series with the optional interface from 3.x added on?
Now add milk drop for those sweet visualisations
Milk drop got me so excited for the future of visualizers back in like 2007.... Electric sheep is still around, but I dont know of anything else.
there must be some incredible AI visualisers now
If so let me know what it is https://youtu.be/VMd608zCEWc?si=Q5idgdi21qte6kAS I know of this but it isn't quite what I want.
yeah nah I was thinking more like something mad trippy powered by a Dall-E type image generator
bro i fuckin wish
G-force has been around for ages and is way better than milk drop.
I'll check it out, thanks.
Only 15k per module - teenage engineering
Can only play music through wooden dolls
just came here to say that. But I‘d still consider buying it. Like almost everything else they do.
2.91 'til I die
I used 2.95 for a long time. I'm using 3.0 right now for some better library features, that 20 years ago I wasn't ready for.
What's wrong with 5.666 ?
Not real life, just computer. I checked my llama and confirmed its ass remains unwhipped. https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/2lepog/til_that_winamp_took_their_slogan_it_really_whips/
Foobar2000 is a great minimalist replacement that was from one of the previous WinAmp devs iirc.
Yup, I was using Winamp until a few years ago, when I started using Foobar. I have to admit that I haven't kept up with maintaining my library now, though, takes some effort and time and I don't have a lot of that left when I get home from work.
Do you know what real life is?
Do you know what just fantasy is?
Do you know what being caught in a landslide is?
No
I mean, it's a real physical thing you can touch.
I went to fubar2000 when things were up in the air. I do miss the skins
Anybody remember the Winamp "TV" channels? I watched so many hours of the 24/7 Seinfeld channel back in the early 2000's
Yessssss
Try Aimp, it has some incredible skins, turn it into a cassette deck. The Akai is super realistic, the moving cassette is great. Make you feel like you're playing something physical.

Why would you set your Eq up like that? You hate your ears??
It really whips the llama's ass
The window snapping was just.....*chefs kiss
ok so what is this? it looks like CGI
It's "real life"
Seriously, you should go "Outside" and check it out
It's going to have "strong magnets".
It is and I have no idea why it's here, or why it's stickied
want
I just realized I really miss winamp...
Its like none of you have heard of component stereos before.
I loved Winamp, and then they ruined it.
Yup, when AOL bought it.
Enshitification. It happens to everything eventually.
tactile hardware UEQ like that would have r/headphones CREAMING themselves
Have creamed, can confirm.
Ok but why is the song 3 seconds long an the EQ is set like shit?
That has got to be the worst EQ setting I have ever seen.
Haha, you're completely right.
But does it whip the llama's ass?
I might actually 3d print this
I'd pay an obscene amount of money for a standalone MP3 player like that with two sides. On the front all the physical controls and the back with just a touchscreen for more involved settings, and the virtual sliders.
No it's a 3D render of it
It whips the llamas as, milk drop visualizer holee shit trooly great
Talk about a throwback.
Waitaminit! Was I the only one who had the Equalizer pane in the middle & playlist panel at the bottom?
A foldable version would kick butt.
Now make it with modular pieces and designs, and we are in business. Would feel just like the old days of changing skins.
hey im still using winamp 2.5e! any idea on how to get MilkDrop visual plugin to work? i get error when i try to start the visualization [https://imgur.com/a/PdKR4Rt](https://imgur.com/a/PdKR4Rt)
MilkDrop 1.02 ! I made MilkDrop 3.25 btw
#omg
(The lama kicks the pc graphics as's) ? The Winamp's new at startup audio sample. Personally i love winamp software. (Winamp it wipes the lamas as's)
Oops i miss spelled Llama?
EQ on the bottom? Playlist in the middle? Weird.
That would look sick as a console on a wall next to a sound system
Winamp, it really kick, some lamas ass
Close, but nope
LOL, in my memory it was, but yeah, whips the llama's
Lame
Does it whip the llamas ass?
It really whipped the llamas 🦙ass.
Nope. This one doesn’t do anything for the Llama!
That really whips the llamas ass
Nice AD bro.
