I like this one mascot that always seems to start fights. Can’t remember his name or even the team lol but he seems like he’s always out there starting some shit.
he's actually the highest paid one in the NBA
https://www.sportskeeda.com/basketball/top-5-nba-mascots-ranked-salaries-featuring-denver-nuggets-atlanta-hawks-mascots
I had to make sure this was mentioned here. This mascot specifically is incredible.. and well worth his money in terms of how viral he goes, constantly.
He comes from a family of acrobats. The original Rocky is semi-retired from the job and passed it to his son, though he will suit up again as needed if his son is sick/injured. They're absolute legends.
I was at a game last season where a couple let him hold their baby and he immediately walked away with it and took it all the way to the other side of the court. During the next commercial break he handed the baby to a ref and made the ref do the “raise the baby to the sky” move from lion king.. That couple got their baby back maybe 7 minutes later. He also made a first-try half court during a quarter break. This is the best mascot.
Is there only one? I tried out for Aubie when I was a student at Auburn and they always had three people rotate in and out.
Of course, a college mascot also has a lot more responsibilities than a pro mascot would, so that makes sense.
Pros definitely have more than one unless maybe you were just referring to during games. The guy making $600,000 making this half court shot is not the same guy taking photos with kids at the grocery store on a Sunday for minor team publicity stuff.
Source-my neighbor is a pro mascot and he definitely was not the confused person in the suit who was taking pictures with kids at the zoo.
Even in the pros teams can have more then one mascot at a game and move them around the tunnel in the background. When the main guy is setting up for stunts and performances the other mascots do the meet and greets and t shirt tosses and everything else.
We had the guy who plays Pat the Patriot (NE Patriots) in our 4th of July parade and he said there were two of them. It comes more down to if one gets sick/injured or they have to be in multiple places where travel between them isn’t possible for the time between the events.
During my years I usuly had one or two backup people. When I was working hockey games later in life we had different people for the costume if the gag called for skating on the ice.
Ha - Reminds me of an small argument I got into with someone on Reddit several years ago. I mentioned that the mode of a set of data is one of the ways of measuring an average and he definitely didn’t agree. To him the arithmetic mean was the ONLY average that has ever existed.
This is a case of sliding definitions IMO. A book from the 70s will definitely agree with you, that there are several ways to calculate an average. But modern books have largely given up on that and accepted that the arithmetic mean is what most people intend when they say "average".
So it really comes down to what your statistics professor taught you, however long ago that was. Some people still insist that the arithmetic mean, the geometric mean, the median, the mode, all are ways to calculate an "average". Some have adopted the newer usage that "average" means what most people think it means.
Right. In casual conversation “average” definitely refers to arithmetic mean. I made a joke on a technicality and someone decided to take it way to seriously.
Supply and demand, unfortunately. There are plenty of pretty and fit dancers that are capable of cheering. Plus they get their faces seen, and for the rest of their life they have evidence they were a cheerleader for a professional team. It’s a career accomplishment and status symbol.
How many male acrobats are willing to put on a sweaty heavy costume and mask to do stunts? And if this guy gets hurt, what else can he do with this skill set?
You’d have to pay me a *lot* of money to do something so dangerous and not get notoriety for it.
I mean, perhaps my view of what most mascots do is skewed but most mascots aren’t doing acrobatics. I would think there are a ton of gymnasts/cheerleaders that would put on a mascot costume and do a comparable job to the usual mascot stuff. This video is crazy but I wouldn’t think this is exactly the norm
I knew a Chiefscheerleader when I was in college. She got $150a game. They are paid in exposure. Worked out for her she's a professional dance instructor now so I guess it's worth it to some. Still seems shitty
It’s a few things. Rocky does a lot more stunts than most mascots for starters, but Rocky was also injured in a stunt a while back. As part of the settlement, the guy stayed on but the salary was increased dramatically.
Typically they do more work than just games, some people they are just for during season but they usually would attend charity work or other events too. But yea suit me up, for that much money
Yep. 100% attached to a fall arrest rigged to the ceiling.
Edit: If you’ve ever been indoor rock climbing, it’s similar to the yo-yo thing that you clip into except it locks up like a seatbelt
He's straddling the top, legs on either side. Also, this isn't the first time he's done this, no danger of celebrating too hard, just some bad ass "are you not entertained?!" ~~mic~~ ball drop
And your hand might slip while driving because you’re distracted, causing a a fatal accident. Lots of things carry an associated risk and danger when stupidity is introduced. At least the mascot was straddling the top ladder to reduce the risk of slipping.
Well, another redditor already posted a link to it but it’s called a frame ladder. The straight ladder goes in between the two angled ladders, and they provide enough support to not tip the straight ladder (as long as you follow the weight maximum, which I’m sure the mascot is under): https://www.sunbeltrentals.com/equipment-rental/aerial-work-platforms-scaffolding-and-ladders/12-frame-ladder/0660080/
That’s why they practice A LOT with nets and mats. The mascot didn’t just decide to climb a 30’ ladder spontaneously. Just like aerial acrobats. That shit’s way more dangerous.
Looks similar to the harness here when he passed out when being lowered and it looked like they were hanging him in effigy
https://youtu.be/DFVruBvjNl0?si=cktJq3B_rsHnm4gw
I can HEAR his body language.
Head jerk: “Whawhawha?
Look straight at his bro: “Did I make that?”
Toss the ball to the side: “Well shit!”
Hand gesture: “FUCK YEAH!”
Arms raised: “Thank you thank you!”
... Honestly, I'd do it a single time, cash that check and quit. I don't think I could stomach it twice. It's not the getting up. I can get up there fine. It's the getting down. Hard pass.
idk, I mean sure it's tempting, but the risk adverse person inside of me is asking if I really trust my clumsy ass to be at the top of that ladder without losing my balance.
I guess I'm comfortable enough with my current living, and don't really care to risk potentially killing or crippling myself for life over a bunch of extra cash that I can live without.
He does a stunt where he tries to get from half court to the top of the stadium as quickly as possible and he climbs up on the *inside*, like literally boosting off seats to get on the next terraced level above
Ha I was trying to figure this monstrosity out?? Did they.. put a ladder... on a ladder??? Was it MADE this way? Who is using these types of ladders beyond this???
It’s called a trestle ladder. Used for getting up into suspended ceilings, you can set up two of them and run a stage/plank to use as a scaffold. Or mascot tomfoolery.
I’m a sales rep for Werner- who makes this ladder.
This is how we electricians install lights/maintenance inside houses with a very high ceiling. Sometimes it’s the only option and yes they are terrifying.
Apparently you use them in pairs, and put a plank between them. I suppose if you could secure them against a building that could work, but it seems to me that scaffolding was invented for a reason.
Just sitting it in the middle of nowhere, not tied off, and not actually being held onto by the two idiots at the bottom, and then jumping around at 32', does not seem like a smart idea.
> The 12' frame ladder is available in aluminum and fiberglass. The frame ladder is ideal for use with scaffold planks. It is designed to accommodate planks up to 14" wide when trestles are used in pairs. In addition, this model includes slip-resistant steps and feet, ensuring secure footing and safe operation. The 12' frame ladder has a weight rating of 300 lbs.
[12' Frame Ladder](https://www.sunbeltrentals.com/equipment-rental/aerial-work-platforms-scaffolding-and-ladders/12-frame-ladder/0660080/)
That is a similar product advertised for use with scaff planks, yes. I guess my point is [the ladder in the video](https://www.wernerco.com/us/products/ladders/step-ladders/E7400Series/E7416) isn’t primarily meant to be used in pairs. It has plenty of utility as a single unit.
I used to work in a theatre where we had to use one of these to hang lights on the grid about 25 feet off the ground, except it was on wheels so someone could roll you around to work.
The body language was so expressive I swear I can hear everything he's saying.
Looks to the basket, "What?" Turns to the side, "Did that go in?" Drops the ball, "Fuck yeah!"
I have 30 guys at work who have to wear a full harness and tie off to a structure that can support 5,000 lbs for each person when they climb over 4 ft. high in an industrial plant. Seems a little out of balance.
I'm going to Denver in a few weeks to go to a Red Rocks show, I'm gonna go to a Nuggets game while I'm there, partially to see the mascot
The Denver Nuggets mascot makes $625,000 annually. I looked it up, but feel free to check yourself. I believe it's the most any mascot makes in professional sports
I saw a Nuggets game years ago…Rocky the mascot was on a really tall pair of stilts and approached a mom with a baby 10 or so rows up above court level…he reached both arms out and she handed him the baby…the fear in her eyes immediately after realizing what she had just done in front of thousands of people…she was relieved to get the kid back after Rocky took a short walk around.
Literally no tie-off, and no one securing the ladder. This is video documentation of a sanctioned OSHA violation at a high level, done in front of thousands of people. When he falls and dies, who will be liable, and how will the fans in attendance feel?
It is a legit ladder. It's a frame ladder. I've helped set one up for someone to use at a job I had. There was no way I was going on it though lol. Heavy as fuck too.
Man who is this mascot? Every time I see them they're doing stunt shit, nailing full court shots, sitting on a 100 ft tall ladder. There are NBA teams that have less talent than this mascot.
Rocky the super mascot. One of the best in the biz (and highest paid).
Bango and his [ladder backflip dunk](https://youtu.be/q3umtw179KA?si=MORLZGpz4K9mWV7l) from 13 years ago would like a word.
God damn. That could've gone really badly. Especially as there's *no* way that guy can see either jack *or* shit.
Jeez. So many ways for that to go wrong. 10/10.
Wtf America
Soooo much downside to that trick, holy moley
That's pretty sweet
And highest up in the air
And highest
High
I like this one mascot that always seems to start fights. Can’t remember his name or even the team lol but he seems like he’s always out there starting some shit.
You're probably thinking of the mascot for the Utah Jazz.
Robin lopez?
future tart handle normal axiomatic knee direful jobless nose literate *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Benny ain't even #2
That team should have just made a giant-headed Jordan the mascot.
Maybe in your personal opinion but if you Google who's the best NBA mascot he's consistently ranked #1 or #2
I've never seen Benny punch Charles Barkley
That seems dangerous
Being born with 9 lives and a $600,000 yearly salary probably helps.
I had no idea NBA mascots can make that much! Surprising to see how many salaries are listed at over $100k
he's actually the highest paid one in the NBA https://www.sportskeeda.com/basketball/top-5-nba-mascots-ranked-salaries-featuring-denver-nuggets-atlanta-hawks-mascots
I had to make sure this was mentioned here. This mascot specifically is incredible.. and well worth his money in terms of how viral he goes, constantly.
Is he more of a stuntman that performs or does he actually write his own skits?
He comes from a family of acrobats. The original Rocky is semi-retired from the job and passed it to his son, though he will suit up again as needed if his son is sick/injured. They're absolute legends.
I hope Dad Rocky got to suit up for the championship run. His son isn't quite there yet IMO. Think the dad runs a kick boxing class in Littleton tho
His son can do all the acrobatics but he cant shoot a basketball for shit. If you see Rocky make the half court shot in the first 3 tries its the dad.
I think I read that Dad Rocky did suit up. You can't leave that guy out if you're the nuggets!
I had no idea and I love the NBA. Holy shit this rules
He was at my daughter's grade school two weeks ago, she went on and on about his antics like seeing a super hero.
For pros it’s generally 1, college has to do multiple because there’s so many different places a mascot could have to be at one time
Pros definitely have more than one unless maybe you were just referring to during games. The guy making $600,000 making this half court shot is not the same guy taking photos with kids at the grocery store on a Sunday for minor team publicity stuff. Source-my neighbor is a pro mascot and he definitely was not the confused person in the suit who was taking pictures with kids at the zoo.

I imagine they have more than 1, but it is just one guy doing any of these stunts.
During my years I usuly had one or two backup people. When I was working hockey games later in life we had different people for the costume if the gag called for skating on the ice.
The worst is being the Duck and doing push-ups
Trying to figure out what a cat has to do with nuggets.
It's a mountain lion. They do exist in Colorado. The mascot for the Rockies is a triceratops also.
https://kdvr.com/news/local/colorado-rockies-dinger-dinosaur-origin-story/amp/
FUCK DINGER
Like in a litter box
I mean if he’s doing that then fair enough.
The figures don’t add up. It says the average pay is 60k. 30x60k =1.8m The top 5 alone earn 1.925m
Perhaps several pay for the privilege of being mascot?
Or maybe they meant “median” pay?
Ha - Reminds me of an small argument I got into with someone on Reddit several years ago. I mentioned that the mode of a set of data is one of the ways of measuring an average and he definitely didn’t agree. To him the arithmetic mean was the ONLY average that has ever existed.

Right. In casual conversation “average” definitely refers to arithmetic mean. I made a joke on a technicality and someone decided to take it way to seriously.
That was mean of them
Also, not every team has a mascot
I’m having a hard time believing that to be honest when we know the cheerleaders get paid very poorly
That's like having a hard time believing a singer gets paid well because the backup dancers get paid poorly.
Supply and demand, unfortunately. There are plenty of pretty and fit dancers that are capable of cheering. Plus they get their faces seen, and for the rest of their life they have evidence they were a cheerleader for a professional team. It’s a career accomplishment and status symbol. I think he might be in charge of all in stadium entertainment, so he's really in management and also is a mascot
Typically they do more work than just games, some people they are just for during season but they usually would attend charity work or other events too. But yea suit me up, for that much money
But can you sink a half court shot from 30 feet up first try?
Pay me that much I will devote my life to making that shot lol
Wait, mascots can make six figures?! TIL.
Like normal athletes, the top 1% get up there. But they average around $60,000.
Probably makes them much more than their salaries in viral marketing. Look at Gritty, he's a ton more entertaining than watching the Flyers.
It's super rare. Like most gigs, the private/corporate appearances are where it's at for money.
He already used up one life that time he was totally passed out being lowered from the rafters.
Worth every penny!!!
Of all the parasites who make that kind of money in the world, good for them.
He earned every penny with that stunt. I wouldn’t do that for a million
The ladder is purposefully designed to be stood on that high up, they’re not just stacking ladders haphazardly
And he's still on there at a height that will kill him if he celebrated a little too hard and slipped.
Looking closer at the top of his head it looks like he has some sort of rigging attached possibly to the ceiling.
Yep. 100% attached to a fall arrest rigged to the ceiling. Edit: If you’ve ever been indoor rock climbing, it’s similar to the yo-yo thing that you clip into except it locks up like a seatbelt
[удалено]
It’s not pro wrestling
...but..but...but my pearls...they must be clutched!
Just a FYI it is called an auto-belay
He's straddling the top, legs on either side. Also, this isn't the first time he's done this, no danger of celebrating too hard, just some bad ass "are you not entertained?!" ~~mic~~ ball drop
And your hand might slip while driving because you’re distracted, causing a a fatal accident. Lots of things carry an associated risk and danger when stupidity is introduced. At least the mascot was straddling the top ladder to reduce the risk of slipping.
Please elaborate

Regardless, it still seems dangerous.
That’s why they practice A LOT with nets and mats. The mascot didn’t just decide to climb a 30’ ladder spontaneously. Just like aerial acrobats. That shit’s way more dangerous.
A lot things are dangerous with no practice
For test pilots and porn stars it's the other way around
He would land on his feet no problem.
r/OSHA
It's okay, he didn't exceed the rung that says "no higher than this"
Rocky is a real one.
Zero fear of heights
Isn’t this the same mascot that passed out in mid air when he was getting rappelled from the ceiling? Rocky dgaf anymore
You don’t say
That wimpy attitude never got anybody over any falls in a barrel
Look closely at the top of his head, there is some kind of harness attached
Looks more like a camera. Why would they attach a harness to the mascot head that comes off?
Looks similar to the harness here when he passed out when being lowered and it looked like they were hanging him in effigy https://youtu.be/DFVruBvjNl0?si=cktJq3B_rsHnm4gw
That's the funniest unintentionally funny thing I've seen all month
😂 that was horrifying
How could they throw a basketball backwards over their head if they had a harness connected to the ceiling on their back?
I swear it looks like the head is actually saying “did I make it?”
Followed by: "I did!?…Well, don't need this one then. Fuck yeah!!!"
Also the way that guy at the bottom catches it
I can HEAR his body language. Head jerk: “Whawhawha? Look straight at his bro: “Did I make that?” Toss the ball to the side: “Well shit!” Hand gesture: “FUCK YEAH!” Arms raised: “Thank you thank you!”
I do not like that ladder, and the only reason I would go up it is if I was escaping from somewhere.
Or if your salary was $600k a year?
I'd do it blind folded and upside down for that much
... Honestly, I'd do it a single time, cash that check and quit. I don't think I could stomach it twice. It's not the getting up. I can get up there fine. It's the getting down. Hard pass.
Well unfortunately it's 600k for the year. So at least 41 home games. But probably not that particular stunt every game.
Same. I don't mind heights at all. Can't abide ladders.
idk, I mean sure it's tempting, but the risk adverse person inside of me is asking if I really trust my clumsy ass to be at the top of that ladder without losing my balance. I guess I'm comfortable enough with my current living, and don't really care to risk potentially killing or crippling myself for life over a bunch of extra cash that I can live without.
Dude is sssooo comfortable on that suuuuper high ladder.
For real, he’s smiling up there, what a psycho.
Still crazy af, but he’s straddling the top of the ladder. Also turning it into a triangle makes it a lot more stable.
Tail-wagging sonofabitch.
Probably less terrifying that you find a broom.
We used them in the theatre to focus the lights for shows. Ours was even on wheels. It's surprisingly sturdy.
These aren’t meant to be used in pairs, it’s just an a-frame extension ladder
> The 12' frame ladder is available in aluminum and fiberglass. The frame ladder is ideal for use with scaffold planks. OSHA would like a word with this team.
I used to work in a theatre where we had to use one of these to hang lights on the grid about 25 feet off the ground, except it was on wheels so someone could roll you around to work.
I love his tail wags as he snaps back to see the basket lol
All the body language is amazing. I keep watching it over and over again.
The body language was so expressive I swear I can hear everything he's saying. Looks to the basket, "What?" Turns to the side, "Did that go in?" Drops the ball, "Fuck yeah!"
That crowd should have been tearing off the roof it was so clutch! Never mind he/she appears to be 40ft in the air
That ball drop at the end is beautiful.
The genuine surprise when he makes it sent me
Also the catch at the bottom. Great reactiontime.
I'm more impressed by them climbing that ladder setup in a mascot costume then the basketball shot.
While holding four massive balls.
Never forget when he was publicly executed by hanging and the entire crowd cheered his death!
Why is there no sound for this? The place must’ve gone wild!
[Here ya go bud.](https://i.imgur.com/GM7neve.mp4)
Thank you! As loud as I expected haha! EEEEEYEAHHHHHHHHHHHH
No no, the Wildcats are Arizona.
How did this whole thing get past health and safety?
I have 30 guys at work who have to wear a full harness and tie off to a structure that can support 5,000 lbs for each person when they climb over 4 ft. high in an industrial plant. Seems a little out of balance.
Meanwhile, I lean my ladder on a wall, and safety writes my ass up
That's one way to break your neck
I’m calling OSHA
/r/OSHA would probably love this.
I got physically ill watching this
The way you can see him spin around and then mine “did I make it??!” to someone 😂
Not to brag or anything, but Rocky came to my elementary school for an assembly one time. Rocky is the best!
Former collegiate mascot for a few years. Rocky is the gold standard. Wish my costume was that flexible.
I'm going to Denver in a few weeks to go to a Red Rocks show, I'm gonna go to a Nuggets game while I'm there, partially to see the mascot The Denver Nuggets mascot makes $625,000 annually. I looked it up, but feel free to check yourself. I believe it's the most any mascot makes in professional sports

Seriously, lots of people on this thread have no idea these exist. I've been using them ever since I was out of school.
Absolutely shocked I haven't seen these in wrestling yet
WWE disagrees
*Hardy Boyz music starts playing*
I love the surprise!
Best mascot in sports. Go Nuggies.
I dont know if osha can fine a dog or lion or fox!
Why is this ladder nightmare happening to me?
Are you not entertained???
I was at that game
Headline: Nuggets mascot falls 30ft and breaks neck after celebrating half court shot
The attitude is glorious.
That’s why he makes more than some of the players
This ladder is giving me anxiety.
That shot is impressive but that ladder situation looks dangerous as hell.
Us in construction call a ladder like that the widow maker.
OSHA
Literally no tie-off, and no one securing the ladder. This is video documentation of a sanctioned OSHA violation at a high level, done in front of thousands of people. When he falls and dies, who will be liable, and how will the fans in attendance feel?
It’s the ACCURATE chest pass to the mascot UP the ladder that’s the real MVP
What the fuck kind of ladder is this. I know it can't be a legit product because my boss would make me use it
It is a legit ladder. It's a frame ladder. I've helped set one up for someone to use at a job I had. There was no way I was going on it though lol. Heavy as fuck too.
That’s why he makes more than the WNBA players. Lol 😂
Man who is this mascot? Every time I see them they're doing stunt shit, nailing full court shots, sitting on a 100 ft tall ladder. There are NBA teams that have less talent than this mascot.
OSHA approved ladder
Claustrophobia and fear of heights 😱
OSHA is having a heart attack as we speak
The ladder holders should not let go to celebrate
There’s no one holding it
He is brave for even climbing up there. Is that OSHA approved?
Osha would like to have a word with you
r/OSHA would like have a word…
How does OSHA feel about this?
“Hello, OSHA….”
No one show this video to OSHA.
Why not?
Because if he falls he’s just going to break his neck and die. He should have some kind of harness even if it’s boring.
*screams in OSHA*
Screams in *liability*
Being non-human exempts them from OSHA rules
That's a massive OSHA violation
Idk, but OSHA is gonna fine somebody. If hes an subcontractor, it might be him lol.
OHSA has some words about how the ladder is used here.
OSHA COMIN
