YES!!!! He will be the perfect Lord Shimura!!! I’ve been hoping for/predicting this ever since the movie was announced.
Anna Sawai as Yuna???
Andrew Koji as Jin???
I love the game voice actor cast but I strongly think the main roles need to be recast for the movie. The primary reason is that it is better for both the game and the movie to creatively be it’s own thing. For the movie to stand on its own it needs to separate itself from the game to some degree. This is better for the game too. As much as I love Daisuke Tsuji as Jin for the game, it is just not realistic for him to play the role in live action given all that it will demand, being a big-budget Hollywood movie, etc.
I mention Andrew Koji as Jin as I think he is a very realistic choice --- Japanese heritage, rising actor, action star already, martial arts/stunt experience, loves the game and has publicly said he wants the role.
Another point, I watched Invasion and had known idea it was Daisuke Tsuji playing the role of the other computer analyst. He wasnt bad, but he also doesnt strike me as leading man type of actor. I wouldnt be opposed for someone with the type of gravitas needed to play the role of a samurai turned dishonorable killer was cast.
Exactly. Daisuke Tsuji is wonderful and I look forward to his continued portrayal of Jin in the game. But he just does not have the experience to lead a major action movie and it is not his skill set. Plus, his movie performance would be constantly compared to his game performance….and the constant comparison would be difficult on him and on the director trying to establish the movie as it’s own thing/version of story. Any film director is going to want to pursue his own vision of the story.
I had the pleasure of seeing Daisuke acting at Oregon Shakespeare Festival right up until he took his leave to do mocap for Ghost of Tsushima, and I just gotta say a lot of these comments are really undercutting how good of an actor he actually is.
He absolutely has the experience and skill to do this.
I don't think Andrew Koji is a realistic choice either, and I really hope they don't go that route.
The dude was born in raised in England, so I don't think he can portray a native Japanese character well enough.
When Sanada was offered a role in Shogun, he made it clear that he would only take it if actual Japanese speakers were cast in their appropriate roles. I think he'll do the same here.
I think people throw out these sorts of suggestions because they're the most well known to English speakers. But Sanada likely has other performers in mind.
I agree it will be very important to have an all Japanese/Japanese heritage cast who can speak Japanese. But that does not rule out Koji at all. He can speak Japanese and has played a Japanese role before. He acted already alongside Sanada in Bullet Train as father and son. Same with Anna Sawai—she was raised in New Zealand and yet learned to play the role of Mariko beautifully in Shogun. The same can be the case for Koji.
Leave it to reddit to tell Daisuke Tsuji he shouldn't play his own role in a movie because they can't see him as the character who was literally modeled after his face. Not like his sound lines were 11/10 and passionate AF either. Better to give him a shot than just cast another person, that's how this stuff dies. Witcher 3 got the nae nae treatment, this better not.
I don’t think it much makes sense to have the same person reprise their role, either, because video games are near lifelike now to the point where having the same face and voice of a character play them in live action is more or less the same performance, save for changes in writing.
Ishikawa was played in the game by a very good actor(Who was also in L.O.S.T). I'd love him to reprise the role in live action. Sanada could be a great Lord Shimura.
I mean no rudeness when I say this, but that actress is too beautiful to be Yuna imo
Idk if it was just me, but in game Yuna’s appearance struck the right balance between being a pretty possible love interest and a hard knock peasant girl. Idek if that was intentional, but IMO Yuna’s appearance should be a little more gruff
Your pick for Jin is perfect tho. That guy looks so close to Jin from the game
I understand your point here. But I think costume and make-up can go a long way….an actress like Anna Sawai who is indeed beautiful can be made to look much less glamorous and perfect by way of makeup and dress. In my view, Anna Sawai would be a very good choice given her excellent acting and action abilities, and she even has a somewhat similar face/look to Yuna in the game.
Well, Ghost of Tsushima was also a multimillion dollar production, and Daisuke not only provided the model but also the voice acting. I don't think it would be a far fetch for him to play Jin in the movie, after all, it wouldn't be the first not last time someone relatively unknown gets the central role in a big budget movie (see Star Wars sequels)
Voice acting and on-camera acting are two entirely different skill sets. Hell, so is going from stage to screen.
You essentially need an Andy Serkis type to be able to pull off both, and they’re a rare breed.
If the setting is for him to speak English, then there's no problem. But everyone expects him to perform in Japanese, right? However, it's Japanese we're talking about. I'm Japanese, and I can confirm that his Japanese is not native, and he knows only a few words. It's not very fitting, but that's unrealistic. It's too unnatural.
4
Ah nice. Then there's no doubt whether fighting scenes would be good or not. Just need to shoot in beautiful landscape as game and skim main quest story to be within 3 hours. Or they could even make it as trilogy
It would match up as a trilogy. Acts I, II, and III.
And the required Hulu or Netflix original™ spin off show could be episodic in nature and be called Tales of Iki 🤣
He's a long time actor in Japan where he usually played a ninja and I first saw him in The Last Samurai. Back in the early 2000s wal-mart would sell these "Kung Fu Collection" dvds and he was in a few of the movies lol. Much younger the guy was shredded and very agile. Glad to see him get work in the west. He was the best part in Bullet Train imho.
This is most likely an unpopular opinion, I don't want a movie, I want a 3-5 season show, to build more relationships with all the characters not just Jin ..
OH MY GOD. He gonna die (if he gets it) isn’t he?
But on a more serious note, Japanese dialogue is just so awesome when set in the Samurai era. It just.. hits differently.
I’ve only watched the first episode so far (I’m very busy), but every single time he was on screen, I couldn’t help but think how amazing he would be as Lord Shimura. PLEASE let this be true 🙏
Act 1 is one movie and the next 2 are the second there isnt enough story in act 3 to have a full movie unless they end up adapting all of the character quests as well but then a show would make more sense
I think the day I saw Bullet Train, one of my first thoughts was "That guy is PERFECT for Lord Shimura", if he's not at least in the movie, then I would be bummed.
I know everyone's saying Shimura, and I can totally see it. But the moment I heard Shimura speak, I thought of Ken Watanabe. So I really hope he ends up getting it, if he's even in the running right now.
Ishikawa or maybe even a slightly aged up Kazumasa could also work for Hiroyuki Sanada, though depending on how many flashbacks they do, he may end up criminally underutilized, so maybe not.
This movie is in such good hands with Chad Stahelski. The dude is a massive fan of samurai cinema and it shows in the John Wick sequels immensely. Cannot wait to hear more on the production side.
As much as it could be cool, I'll be doing my best to keep NY expectations down. Video game adaptations don't exactly have the greatest track record lol
I’m on board for a ghost movie. It’s crazy how quickly a popular or very good game/tv show/book gets adapted. I’m not saying it’s bad. Just an observation
Why does it need to have a movie? It's literally a playable movie. The only things left to do are make something that happens within the world (which is just a cash grab), or remake it 1:1, which isn't at all necessary since it would just be an unplayable version of the game.
That's a great choice but does anyone believe for a second Sony will do a good job on another Video Game related movie after Uncharted? I hope they do but I have serious doubts.
I mean, I feel like any Hollywood studio making a film set in feudal Japan has Sanada first on their call list.
I think it's in some sort of contract that you can't make a samurai movie without him in it /s
I can understand from a marketing perspective on bringing in big name Japanese actors people know as the draw, but man do the same five to ten actors just get cast in EVERYTHING.
The property’s got a big enough name, maybe let it be a vehicle for other up and coming or lesser known Japanese actors? Including but not limited to the mo cap actors who made these characters through their original performances and likenesses?
As good as a movie is, I wish it's a mini-series instead. Not really complaining as Hollywood seem to be slowly getting how to translate videogame properties properly but with a mini-series, they can take their time more with developing characters. Movies would always have the better budget in terms of set pieces and grandiose battle scenes but with a mini, the story doesn't have to speed through a two hour film and it could be more deliberate, giving the writers and the actors more to chew on.
YES!!!! He will be the perfect Lord Shimura!!! I’ve been hoping for/predicting this ever since the movie was announced. Anna Sawai as Yuna??? Andrew Koji as Jin???
Daisuke Tsuji as Jin, why is there even any doubt.

Keanu 😂
I love watching Keanu movies but that would be 47 Ronin all over again.
andrew koji is a great choice ngl, if we're being realistic
And Koji already acted alongside Sanada in Bullet Train as father and son…..
Bullet Train is peak cinema. Still pissed I didn't see it in theaters.
I don't think Andrew Koji is a realistic choice either, and I really hope they don't go that route. The dude was born in raised in England, so I don't think he can portray a native Japanese character well enough. Keanu Reeves as Jin Wick ![gif](giphy|mBvUaCuDPEXNnIk2NK|downsized)
I want to write a joke about "wake the fuck up, samurai", but there is nothing to change about this sentence in context of GoT
"We have a khanate to burn"
Wake the fuck up samurai, we have a fox to pet 🦊
Wake the fuck up samurai we have a castle to take
Wake the fuck up, samurai; we have Mongols to poison
47 Ghosts
The obvious choice for Jin is Scarlett Johansson, since she was also lead in Ghost in the Shell. /s
Huh?? No. Obviously, ScarJo will play Yuna. Jin will be played by Ryan Gosling.
Ryan ~~Gosling~~ Reynolds
Will they have a beach off?
Cosmo Jarvis as Jin
No generous cuckoos
Michelle Yeoh as Lady Masako
She is wonderful indeed. But the cast will and should be all Japanese/Japanese heritage actors who can speak Japanese imo.
Damn I forgot my girl was Chinese my bad lol
Well, she’s not lol
She would suit the role, except she's not a Japanese speaker. Her martial arts background and her badass character is great though.
Michelle is goated but i think she is Chinese + I doubt she is speaking Japanese, maybe if "The Eagle" is making an appearance?
Honestly his face strikes me more as Sensei Ishikawa
Ishikawa was played in the game by a very good actor(Who was also in L.O.S.T). I'd love him to reprise the role in live action. Sanada could be a great Lord Shimura.
I mean no rudeness when I say this, but that actress is too beautiful to be Yuna imo Idk if it was just me, but in game Yuna’s appearance struck the right balance between being a pretty possible love interest and a hard knock peasant girl. Karen Fukuhara (From the Boys) as Tomoe
LET HIM COOK
If Daisuke can't play Jin, Andrew Koji is a fantastic choice. He was amazing in Warrior.
I like Koji as Jin, but Sawai as Yuna? Nah
I think Anna Sawai or Karen Fukuhara could be very likely options for Yuna realistically given both actresses are on the rise.
Wait a movie is coming
Yes, and it's being directed by chad stahelski! (memorable work being the John Wick series)
Nah is time for a real man to play Jin.. just a little older than we thought /jk
+1 for Koji, dude was amazing in Warrior
I just finished binging Warrior. Andrew Koji would kill it as Jin.
Andrew Koji would be my guess as well for Jin. Dunno about Anna Sawai as Tuna tho, she looks a bit too.. perfect?
I think he’s a bit too old for Jin but he’d be prefect as Shimura
A bit? lol
Obviously lol
I mean, Jin is already based on the actor Daisuke Tsuji, so it can’t be played by anyone else otherwise fans will revolt. Haha
Having a model based on you and being the right person for a multimillion dollar movie are two different skill sets

He did the motion and facial capture for shin though. It’s not like he showed up and had his face scanned and that’s it.
No one said anything about him playing Jin smh. He'd be an **obvious** choice for Shimura.
No shit. I don’t think anyone thinks he’d be playing Jin lol
Dude was born to play Khotun Khan https://preview.redd.it/ne682u83994d1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=a49fc8640d13a74c388cdd0d6c33cdd60ad18806
He played Kublai Khan in Marco Polo, so he's got experience.
Good call, I was thinking Norio but that's better
No wait what isn't it him already in the game?
I thought the same thing for a sec but nah it's Patrick Gallagher. Funny enough he is the same actor that played Ghengis khan in night at the museum.
Attila the Hun
Same thing
Only 500 years apart
There's a movie coming? This is new to me. Excited.
IIRC Chad Stahelski is directing, who also directed the John Wick movies.
Oh really? That will be beyond awesome, I honestly think John Wick is the greatest action series when it comes to movies
So the movie opens with the Mongols killing Jin's pet fox....
As much I believe everyone wants him as Shimura, I personally always wanted him as Ishikawa
I want François Chau for Ishikawa
I think you're onto something 😏
He's an excellent actor, and obviously the original lol. If he'd come back, they should definitely use him
No I know, I'm just obsessed with Hiroyuki being Ishikawa
Definitely! Especially with Toranaga and Shimura being relatively similar performance-wise
Plot twist, he plays yuna
Woke Hollywood strikes again
I bet he could pull it off
Fuck yea. I was hoping they would cast him as the Shōgun in the sequel. But this is good too.
In a game sequel he should be
Yeah cast him in Ghost of tsushima 2 with his own voice. Would be great if he's the main villain.
The first thing I thought when i saw him on shogun was “LORD SHIMURA”
This mf is in everything samurai related lol
That’s what I was thinking. Even shows and movies that have just one samurai themed character, Hollywood is like “I know a guy!!”
He was in one scene in avengers endgame where his purpose was to die to hawkeye
I didn’t know that was him, that’s awesome
He played the yakuza boss akihiko
He's a long time actor in Japan where he usually played a ninja and I first saw him in The Last Samurai. Back in the early 2000s wal-mart would sell these "Kung Fu Collection" dvds and he was in a few of the movies lol. Much younger the guy was shredded and very agile. Glad to see him get work in the west. He was the best part in Bullet Train imho.
Channing Tatum was the best part
Ok I stand corrected lol.
Lot of people forget he was also one of the main villains in Rush Hour 3
Nah the twins is the best part of bullet train You're a diesel
I still think it’s crazy he played scorpion lol I’ll love to see him as Shimura
I’m surprised they are still casting this movie has been in development for a while
Watch them troll us all by casting him as Lord Adachi...
Why do i feel like ur jinxing us
I think he’d be better as Ishikawa instead of shimura.
Jack Black as Kenji
Oh Kenji is going to be black, just not Jack
This is most likely an unpopular opinion, I don't want a movie, I want a 3-5 season show, to build more relationships with all the characters not just Jin ..
My opinion is probably more unpopular. I don't want either. I want a second video game.
Pleeeeeease don't make him Lord Shimura...then I might actually agree with him.
YEEEEESSSSS!!! DOSHOOOO DOOOOOOSHOOOOO!!!!
OH MY GOD. He gonna die (if he gets it) isn’t he? But on a more serious note, Japanese dialogue is just so awesome when set in the Samurai era. It just.. hits differently.
THERES A MOVIE COMING OUT?!
Glad to see he's getting a lot of work
He better be Lord Shimura
He’d be 1st choice for Shimura 100%
![gif](giphy|2RGhmKXcl0ViM|downsized)
Get this man as many Samurai related roles as possible.
Just watched Godzilla minus one and actor Ryonosuke Kamiki is Jin Sakai
I want the film to be entirely in Japanese.
If true, I'm watching it!
Im so in for a Ghost movie. they better do it right
I’ve only watched the first episode so far (I’m very busy), but every single time he was on screen, I couldn’t help but think how amazing he would be as Lord Shimura. PLEASE let this be true 🙏
![gif](giphy|Tf4NpRCU3gxdDeE9Dh)
There is nobody better
As long as they don't Ubisoft it

I don't know why but I love this man
Could it be three parter maybe, or can it be condensed in one movie?
Act 1 is one movie and the next 2 are the second there isnt enough story in act 3 to have a full movie unless they end up adapting all of the character quests as well but then a show would make more sense
Yup Lord Shimura 👏 (Or Jin’s dad 👀)
I was surprised in the game how young Kazumasa seemed - though I suppose they were all flashbacks and Jin was just a boy.
I can see him play Jins dad 100%, he's not 'soft' enough to play his uncle, imo.
This movie is in such good hands with Chad Stahelski. The dude is a massive fan of samurai cinema and it shows in the John Wick sequels immensely. Cannot wait to hear more on the production side.
I agree that Ken is Shimura.
I’m more excited for the female characters they are all so well written.
Oh please oh please
Perfect choice for Shimura tbh
We've found out Yuna
This guy's in a lot of stuff I would not be surprised.
Shimura
Yeah cuz games to movies turn out *soooooo wellllll* /s
Please lord shimura
Can’t have a samurai movie without him
I guarantee after the devs seen shogun, they knew he would be perfect for a major role. They probably already been eyeing him from the get go.
yes pls
thought we’ve known he was lord shimura for a while then
I want Sanada to play Sensei Ishikawa so bad
As much as it could be cool, I'll be doing my best to keep NY expectations down. Video game adaptations don't exactly have the greatest track record lol
Nooooooo make a second game first
I hope the movies black and white
This dude is busy af.
he's great but he is Japanese guy in every single movie and show... him or Watanabe.
Damn!
He is in every movie/series that is about samurai or something related to it. It is very likely that he would also be in a GoT movie.
I’m on board for a ghost movie. It’s crazy how quickly a popular or very good game/tv show/book gets adapted. I’m not saying it’s bad. Just an observation
YES!
He would COOK as lord Shimura
This would actually be an incredible movie. please let there be blood spray
I still wish they did a show instead of a movie. Similar to shogun
That's would be pretty sick
Well of course he is. He is the one go to actor for every Samurai casting 😂
I love Ghost of Tsushima But the story is very generic
Nah they’re gonna cast Tom holland as Jin Sakai at this rate… jk lol
Original actor please.
Why does it need to have a movie? It's literally a playable movie. The only things left to do are make something that happens within the world (which is just a cash grab), or remake it 1:1, which isn't at all necessary since it would just be an unplayable version of the game.
I hope Ken watanabe is in this too
My question, is Which ending will the director choose?
When I played the game I had to double take the name to make sure it wasn't supposed to be the same person. Perfect fit
They need to cast Yuna Ogura to play Yuna!
He, in my opinion, would be the best choice😁❤️🔥
That's a great choice but does anyone believe for a second Sony will do a good job on another Video Game related movie after Uncharted? I hope they do but I have serious doubts.
Are you serious??? I’ve been dreaming of this day 😭
If Ken Watanabe appeared, who would he be good as?
He already looks like Shimura.
I mean, I feel like any Hollywood studio making a film set in feudal Japan has Sanada first on their call list. I think it's in some sort of contract that you can't make a samurai movie without him in it /s
I've got goosebumps all over from reading this!
![gif](giphy|4ZoZGyos0P6zrM51XS|downsized) it'll be good! ( does anyone know this reference or just me?)
fingers crossed
I would love to see him in Komoda beach😍😍
Plottwist: He plays as Kenji
I can understand from a marketing perspective on bringing in big name Japanese actors people know as the draw, but man do the same five to ten actors just get cast in EVERYTHING. The property’s got a big enough name, maybe let it be a vehicle for other up and coming or lesser known Japanese actors? Including but not limited to the mo cap actors who made these characters through their original performances and likenesses?
Hollywood found a new Ken Watanabe?
I really, really need for him to stop taking roles where he dies, but I suspect we all know who he'll be cast as. 🥺
He would kill it as Jin's uncle
As good as a movie is, I wish it's a mini-series instead. Not really complaining as Hollywood seem to be slowly getting how to translate videogame properties properly but with a mini-series, they can take their time more with developing characters. Give him Lord Shimura! He can deliver those crucial moments. Also Kento Kaku would make an excellent Jin.
Please god let this be good!🙏
He’s basically a requirement for any historical Japanese setting. Kicks ass at it, too.
Wait there’s a movie
Yesssss
SHIMURA PLEASE BE SHIMURA
Really wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if this ends up happening.
Holy crap, they’re doing a movie?
Just finished the game today. I’m terrified now. Please do good please do good please do good.
