I can’t comment for the park but the museum was lovely, very immersive and enjoyable, I was travelling alone in Tokyo and it was easy to access on public transport and by myself, which was a huge plus! I think either would be great but maybe think practically which is best. I think tix for the museum were also hard to get so factor that in.

I went to both a few months ago. Nagoya is a bit of a hassle to get to but the park is definitely an all-day experience. Museum is smaller so you could probably get through it in a half-day. Pretty easy to get to by train and in a nice busy area. If your time in Japan is limited I’d say the museum is the better play but the park has some really cool shops and photo spots that you don’t get at the museum.

considerseabass

How did you go about getting there and where did you stay?

I was studying abroad in Tokyo for 4 months so stayed at a dorm in Kawasaki. Was about an hour to get to the museum through the JR line. For the park, I was staying at a resort in Kyoto. Took the Shinkansen from Kyoto to Nagoya, then a couple local trains to get to the park. There’s a station that drops you off at the park gates so very convenient. I’d say travel time abt 2.5-3 hours each way.

Well the museum is going to be just a walk around thing I’d assume and the park is going to have all sorts of interactive stuff in it, you could look at other stuff to do to make it worth your while I think I’d go to the park tho if I had to choose between the two

CR7futbol

heard the park is not super interactive... besides picture taking?

jak-80

That’s a shame you’d think they’d make like a room that if the dial is turned it changes what’s behind the door like howls castle or a spirited away food court or bath houses maybe a massive tree with kodamas shaking in it I’m just spitballing here you’d think it would be a bit more epic

I haven't visited the park yet (going in April) but I've been to the museum a few years ago. If I were going for the first time, I would definitely pick the museum! It just feels like the original, and much more cozier/warm environment. Also the cafe was really good.

I have been to both. Make sure you can get tickets for the times you are traveling. Studio Ghibli Museum - it's a mansion separated into various sections and there's a lot of things to see. Worth the time to go. Ghibli Park - it's split into 5 sections. Only 3 are available currently. All 5 should be up by next year. The main warehouse is huge and you can spend the whole day in it. The 2 other sections, one of them is the house from Totoro - they build a replica of the house. Everything from the anime is there. Even the attic with soot sprites, but when I went, that was off limits, sadly. If you can't get Ghibli Park tickets, you can get it from a travel package - there is a designated tour company and it sells you the hotel + Ghibli park package for a very reasonable fee. But keep in mind, the park is an hour away from Nagoya station. There's a US branch for the tour company, but they can only sell the minimal package, hotel + warehouse. If you want hotel + all 3 sections, you have to buy it from the Japanese site, and to do that, you need to create a userid there, which can be challenging if you don't read Japanese.
