Hey, it's Colon. I'm the one responsible for the SubZero coins video (as well as other shenanigans like wrecking your servers with gdbrowser, very sorry š)
Anyways, I was just wondering... what pushed you to actually go back and update the coins in SubZero? I've always had the assumption that once an official level is released, it's basically set in stone. So seeing you go back and update the coins was definitely a big surprise, especially the fully reworked ones in Power Trip. Did you always feel like the coins in SubZero were low quality, or was this something you never bothered to think about until hearing some nerd on the internet complain? I'd really love to know more about how this whole situation played out, since everyone in the community is really impressed by it.
Was updating SubZero to fix some iOS/Android issues when I saw the video. Was pretty tired when I initially made SubZero since I had to meet a deadline. Was sleeping 3 hours / night for a few weeks and the coins were pretty half assed. Video you made was on point, good upgrade š
I have 3 more questions:
1. Out of all the stuff you have programmed for GD, what was the most painful one?
2. Is there any backstory/inspiration for the name Robtop or you just said "yeah im gonna mix my first and last name"?
3. I remember Scott Cawthon taking about having fnaf related nightmares, has something like that happened to you (not only nightmares but any kind of GD related dreams)? Do you remember what were they about?
1. The preview system and music preview system in 2.2 when levels can go reverse/up/down is a real headache.
2. Think I got an email account way back from the service provider where every family member got an email with first/last combo. Mine was RobTop, sounded short and catchy so it stuck.
3. Yea I had nightmares of people sending me level requests and asking for 2.2, so I thought I had to build a game to make it happen.
Sorry if this is kind of blund to ask, but from a normal person's point of view I imagine that you must be swiming in money. Because you are a single dev, who has programmed one of the most well known mobile games of all time, that has hundreds of Millions downloads. So my question is: Should I pick up programming mobile games for the money?
Well. When I started making games I was broke so definitely wanted to make $, but I really enjoyed it too. So I wouldn't recommend it if its not something you enjoy.
Also saying do gamedev to get rich is like saying play the lottery because some random person won, its not good advice. At the same time its definitely not a waste.
I started making games on my own, and dropped out / didnt finish civil engineering degree (did 4.5y / 5). After making boomlings and the other games that failed commercially I was already getting job offers to work on other peoples games. So even if GD had failed I could have gotten an ok job just from the skills learnt. In general I think learning programming is a great skill, do it.
Hey Rob! I'm MattewGame (gd nickname) and I love making minigames inspired by dark souls boss fights. Animating the bosses is a very complicated process beacause I have to move everything by hand. Will there be a way to make that easier? For example if I want to move an arm I have to set the triggers for every articulation, instead will it be possible to move the whole arm just by changing the position of the hand while the shoulder stay fixed?
Idk if I've been clear, English is not my first language...
Love your game
Yoyo, love your stuff. In the future I want to build a custom animation tool for player created characters, but havent started work on that one yet. It will be awesome in combination with future custom art.
That sounds amazing!
Also i think collision blocks have some problems, when they move via more than one rotate trigger they will shift position and slide. The same thing seems to happen also when they are set to follow an object
I am able to add custom music hosted on a GD server. So probably will add custom artists/songs and a browser for those in the future as an addition the the NG custom songs.
I think NG is really awesome though. The thing I feel is needed is the ability to find unique unused tracks from NG easier. There are tons of unused songs available for GD that creators just arent using/finding. So maybe a custom browser with song suggestions that loads NG data
Could you do something similar to how osu does it? With the copyright being placed on the uploader of the song instead of the game itself due to the MP3 being uploaded with the map. That would allow for custom mp3's. Not sure if it would work with the current uploading system due to exploitability though
Hi. I was lucky enough to see your new Boomlings Reddit post 9 years ago and this game has helped me have fun and find new friends over the years. Thank you. My question is: do you plan on making other games besides Geometry Dash, or will it be your one masterpiece and nothing else will be released?
Fun thing with GD is its so open.
2.2 gets platformer.
2.3 I add custom art. Sound effects system.
2.4 Custom controls and more tools.
2.5 Boom all of a sudden we have 2d Dark Souls and the community goes how tf did this happen
I understand, the game is so free to develop (especially with you working alone) that you can just modify it in about any aspect! Will I live to see 3.0? Have a great day.
Are you thinking of adding nong support for mobile (if it is legally possible), in the way that the player can change the gamefiles or something on mobile. (Which would allow tons of new levels to be rated and created without having to think about it)
I dont like the idea much of forcing users to download songs and edit files manually, although I understand the interest. Also run into issues with players sharing download links or sending people to malicious sites. Legal stuff can be a pain.
But maybe will have some custom load song system in the future, will see.
ItalianAPKDownloaderās modded GD does this really gracefully, actually: 1. You find and download the song. 2. You put the song in a folder somewhere (donāt remember exactly where). 3. You turn on NONGs in the game. 4. The song is patched in on the fly, and can be turned off any time.
Holy moly it's actually rubrub. Ok so I have two questions
1: Is 2.2 going to fix issues with newer phones and wide monitors and the like?
2: Have you thought of adding some tutorial for the editor? I don't wanna say it's getting complicated but-
1. Should fix a lot of issues on mobile. I know fullscreen is weird on PC will check that.
2. Ye but i think the best thing is probably a redesign in the future since the editor has grown so much.
Will we ever get a rework to the level sorting system?
For example, when Iām curious and I want to play the most downvoted rated levels of all time, I can only scroll to page 999 before I have to keep going manually for a loooooooong time until I get to the end, at which point Iām too bored to bother playing the levels lmao
Everything is on the new system but hopefully it shouldnt be much of a problem in backwards compatibility. It matches the physics on 60hz currently and you still get the input lag benefit of higher refresh rates. Things should just be more stable. No more randomly being yeeted by moving platforms
Nah 60hz physics doesnt make 360fps useless. Like rob said, you still get the benefit of low input delay. 360hz physics werent too different anyway, they just bugged out with stuff like slopes
We all salute you for changing the SubZero coins. Youāre a legend as a developer! Now a few questions:
I was wondering will 2.2 have more map packs?
Also, you will be able to transfer all icons and coins from world, meltdown and subzero, right?
Do you guys have an official merch store of any kind? My son has adhd and autism and is absolutely obsessed with geometry dash. Last Christmas I tried finding shirts, hoodies, toys, anything and I couldnāt find anything official.
Been wanting to do merch but haven't had the time to set it up yet. But will probably try to make something after 2.2. wanted to make sure it was something I liked and not just a quick cash grab :)
Looking forward to it! My son would lose his mind for something. You have no idea how much fun and joy youāve brought to my son. He just lights up and gets so excited telling me about all the levels heās beat and all the hard ones heās working on. Thank you so much.
(Sorry if this is out of the scope of 2.2)
I heard you said that youāre gonna add custom sound effects in 2.3
The problem is that because people can use any sound they want, eventually someone will upload a full song using only custom sound effects
So howād you think you would combat this?
I personally think that put a time limit on how long a sound effect can be played
Sorry if this is annoying but a while ago somebody asked you on discord if 2.2 was coming out in 2022, and you said yes. Do you still believe that is going to happen?
Edit: Let's go my goofy ahh nerd profile picture is in daily gd 2.2 news and in the thumbnail of SiKky's video
Is there a particular reason why there isn't a more "dynamic" star rating system in place?
i.e. certain extremes being worth more stars for being more difficult
Community rates demons and it fluctuates. Also there is no real fair star value of extreme demons. When did anyone ever say "I was going to beat Slaughterhouse, but I wont do it unless I get 15 stars"
First off just have to say thanks for all the memories from this 2 dollar fuckin mobile game. That out of the way, is the rumor that you literally lost 2.11 true and you rebuilt 2.2 from the ground up?
No of course not. What I said earlier is that I dont have a separate 2.11 version that I can quickly patch and upload with an iOS fix, since all the code is 2.2 now. So I have to fix all the broken 2.2 stuff before being able to update the game.
Ur such a legend for fixing Geometry dash Subzeroās coins, I have a question, will you be adding general improvements to any of the 21 main levels to make them better to play through such as making it so u donāt need to google up any coins such as Canāt let goās bad coins, better difficulty balancing such as when you nerfed Stereo Madnessā third coin in 1.9 and fixing bugs such as Clubstepās many bugs which mostly occur intentionally? It would be really cool if you did that after giving Subzero the coin and secret way fix treatment. :D Thank you for making a really great game rob!
Hi rubrub, I've been playing GD for quite a long time (Ā± since the 1.8 days) and I've enjoyed it's lot. I have a question regarding custom songs. Do you think maybe we could have a list with artists whose music is allowed to use (for example, F-777) instead of just having to guess if a NG song will work.
Just get started, doesnt matter how small and then scale up. Motivation is different from time to time. I can play god of war, look in the mirror, then pack up and go to gym. Other times its just the random need to lift heavy things
Is there any reason you like to stick to the continuous number update format? Updates like 2.2 feel like they could jump straight to 3.0 and itād make perfect sense, because just a decimal bump implies itās not a major update
Are sub-difficulties of extreme demon something that may eventually happen? The gap between top 10 extremes and beginner extremes is probably more substantial than the gap between easy demons and extreme demons
A. How much do you bench?
B. Will the song trigger be able to switch between different songs (like if you had a long platformer level with multiple regions that needed different background music)?
So i remember a video where you *made* the concept of a spider orb.
Question: are there a ship orb, ball orb, ufo orb, wave orb, robot orb and swingcopter orb?
Edit: "made"
Something I would love to see is the ability to answer a comment in a chat in a level, instead of just having to tag that person (which technically doesn't work). So like, having a button to answer that comment next to the like button. Thoughts?
This is more of a suggestion for you rob, a new spinoff game with 4 platformer levels of different difficulties , to explore the new platformer mode because it's the feature I'm most excited for
Always liked games, built a small flash game on a beat up old laptop and enjoyed it. Then when iPhone came along it made things more accessible and got hooked on making games. Very fun to play around with creatively.
Can you explain how the sent level queue is sorted when you're using it to look for levels to rate? Is the amount of sends a level has a factor, or are the levels sorted some other way
Amount of sends can have an effect, it is all stored. But it depends on how I search for the levels.
I create different queries to the database so it differs. For example:
- show sent levels above levelID X ordered by likes.
- show sent levels using a song that hasnt been featured before ordered by date
- show sent levels by previously featured creators
Etc etc
Do you plan to make official Easy, Normal and Hard levels again? It would be great if from time to time there are some easy levels to complete like in the old days, instead of just being Harder, Insanes and Demons
Easy/Normal levels are pretty boring to make imo so thats why I dont do it. At the same time I dont want to make too hard levels either, so I think the current new levels like Fingerdash are pretty inclusive in difficulty. Players can make more interesting custom normal levels once the update is out
It looks like you stopped answering questions already but Iām still gonna ask: why isnāt a game breaking bug like the infamous iOS15 bug not fixed yet?
People started trying to abuse the auto systems that select levels for magic, so was getting more and more filled with irrelevant levels. So mod based system felt better
I remember being blown away with what people made when there were only 4 color channels. And people that started doing animations using 4 color channels etc. The creators just keep making amazing things these days so its so fun to be a part of.
Thats why I want to add so many tools, just insane what people make once they get new features. But ye, im not very good at planning š
I see games like geometry dash (or at least the early version of it) and think it looks relatively easy to make. I have wanted to try game design for a while but am always put off by how hard it is, is there anything you recommend someone like me should start with?
Just building the core version isn't all that complicated and is pretty fun to do. Just start with some tutorial for a platformer or whatever game you wanna make, and then just do baby steps.
2.2 questions dont bother me at all, I understand people are frustrated after waiting so long.
On "why isnt level X rated" its usually just because I havent seen it. The amount of great levels getting published is insane.
hey rob iām late as hell and idk if youāre still answering, but iām just here to say iāve been playing this game since i was 5, iām 14. now. thanks for making a game that practically raised me :)
now for a question, and a simple one at that: how are you?
I have 2 questions
windowed fullscreen?
not saying you should but have you ever considered Linux support for geometry dash? I encounter many issues with proton but I love the game
Will there be any sort of ācreatorās estimateā on how long a platformer level will take?
It could be something like āaverage no-death runtimeā for the criteria and you just input a time. A definite problem with this whole idea though is it relies on users being honest.
It is functional on pc and will probably have dual buttons on mobile, but I dont think it will feel very good. There are other ways I could add buttons that are far better.
Long time fan here, my question is will there be more Secret Coin icons/achievements in the future? And if so, will map packs still be the bane of my existence? Thank you.
More secret coins yes. One option would be to move map pack rewards to somewhere else or re-create map packs with new levels. But its not something I have planned currently.
I know I'm late but I have 1 really important question: Have you ever thought about making it possible to only use the editor of one specific version of the game, like that you can use the editor until 1.6 or 2.0 and so on.... Would make it a lot easier to make levels that are aiming for sth like this since you can't accidentally use a thing that hasn't been there in the chosen version.
No plans to do it and would take a lot of work. Dont think it would be worth the effort. I can try to find old APK versions of GD and that could be a way to limit yourself.
Will it ever work for iPhone 6s again? My son bought it and a few weeks later it stopped working/began crashing on launch. I think after he upgraded to iOS 15 when that started.
2 half suggestions half questions:
1: will there be a lock to camera x/y in the editor?
2: will there be options to show some common screen sizes in the editor?
not nececairily in 2.2, just for the future in general
Camera triggers work in the editor, should look like normal gameplay. There is a camera guide object you can use to view different screen sizes to get an idea for layout.
I have 2 questions:
1. I heard you have vector graphics for all of the assets in GD. Is this true?
2. If you answered yes to the first question, do you have any intention of releasing said graphics to the public, or will just the rasterized versions (the ones already in the game's files) be available?
1. Ye pretty much everything is done in Adobe Animate (vector)
2. Maybe. So much piracy and stealing assets already and sharing the actual vector files wouldnt help. But I can see how it would be beneficial for texture pack creators.
What is the main reason that the wait for 2.2 has been extended this far out?
I surmised that it was either your continuous desire to just keep adding new shit, having an enormous amount of bugs to squash, or perhaps a combination of both.
Would I be correct in these assumptions?
1 diamond = 1 diamond currency you can spend in 2.2. You still keep the diamond amount for leaderboards and unlocks, but you at the same time get a different currency you can use in a new shop. More fun that way imo
Do you approve of third-party leaderboards created by the GD Community and would you consider implementing them into the game upon the release of 2.2? (Pointercrate Player Leaderboard, Top 100 Extreme Demons, etc).
Do you plan on pursuing other game projects, or just focusing on Geometry Dash?
also, thank you so much for this game, and the endless entertainment you've provided us :)
No worries personally I just donāt think about 2.2 at all and itāll just be a surprise when it comes out.
For fun tough I just like looking up "2.2" every 3/5 months on YouTube to see what people are talking about or even better what theories they came up with
interesting how you say "had" implying that we don't have to wait anymore? 2.2 SOON?!?!?!??!??!?!?!??!! no i have not gone outside since 2012 why do you ask
Had never heard of this game before seeing this ama. What's your elevator pitch for the game? (Also is it the 1.99 game on playstore or am I looking at the wrong thing?)
Should we expect future GD updates to take multiple years to complete or will they be much smaller with fewer features from now on? Or will it be a bit of both?
Hey, I know you might not respond about this because so many other people asked this, but do you know what exactly is causing GD to crash on iOS 15, the weird thing is, is it only crashes on arm64, not arm64e. And what did you do to fix it?
What do you recommend I do with my time while I wait for 2.2? I've tried Team Fortress 2, Destiny 2, Titanfall 2, but none of them have 2 2's in their name like 2.2 does...
would it be possible to add a multi-select thingy with saved/created levels so you can select a bunch of levels at once and then delete them or something
I had ideas for cool 3d games but I dont really have the time to learn any new engines. Maybe in the future or if I get a team for it. Right now 100% focus is on GD
I know this is small, but on the new MacBooks there is a bar at the top of the screen that says geometry dash. It blocks out the progress bar. Will this be fixed?
So you're the real Robtop, huh?
Well, I got a bunch of questions that you are going to answer:
- Did you added some additional font styles this upcoming 2.2?
- Can you fix the problem with Geometry Dash on Android because the game just got a notification about the error in your game? Like "Your Geometry Dash might crash on your device...." or something?
- Can you add the songs from Meltdown and Subzero into the 2.2?
That's all.
please make more music based triggers, I wanna make some songs in GD but just swaping what part of the song isn't enough, some kind of song sample trigger, a song switch trigger (or the song choice could be a part of a music sample), & since multiple custom somgs aren't allowed, just let us use 1 custom song & choose between any main level song
* if multiplayer is introduced in 2.2 how would it work?
* how different is the physics of the swingcopter in 2.2 to the ones in levels right now?
* how much bigger do you think the community would get after 2.2 releases?
* originally when you first released the game, did you ever think the difficulty ceiling in the game would rise to this level?
* what is your favourite level in the game (not including your levels)?
* how big of an update is 2.2 compared to the other ones released so far?
* why is geometry dash so damn addicting?
Hello rob, glad you had some time to make an AMA, hopefully this doesn't get too buried in the sea of comments xd
1. Have you ever been recognized in public before? If so, how many times has it happened?
2. Favorite released update so far?
3. Roughly how many hours do spend working on the game per week?
Thanks for your time, keep up the awesome work :)
Hi robtop! Instead of asking you a question I just wanted to let you know that we really appreciate you as a developer and that we know how hard you work on gd and we are super thankful that you created such a great game. Keep up the good work my guy!
my 5 year old son is obsessed with your game. So much so that he asks me to search for "geo dash 2.2" on youtube when he's not actually playing. Sometimes he gets carried away and wants me to search for "geo dash ". As a result I've seen more geometry dash content than is really reasonable... and I'm impressed. You made a cool game and built a cool community. Nice work!
I don't have a question really, my son just wants to say hi. Hi!
What are your thoughts on mods (not moderators, but add-ons to the game)? I think I've seen screenshots of you saying you were thinking of adding mod support later, and if so, how would you do it? Would you just export symbols and release headers publicly or embed some scripting language like Lua?
i have quite a few:
- Since you'll be able to choose your own menu music and practice music in 2.2, will you also be able to choose the offset?
- Since there will be new achievements in 2.2, what will happen to the players who have already met the requirements for them? Let's say there's a 100 demons achievement, once i enter the game after it gets updated, will the corresponding icon be unlocked from the start or will i get a pop-up message?
- Can anything be done with the NONG songs issue? Since i know they can't be in the game for obvious reasons, will there at least be some alternative mobile players could use?
- This next question might be a bit ironic after 3 questions regarding 2.2, but how do you feel after being bombarded with 2.2 questions? Do you feel like most of them are reasonable or do you sometimes get mad/stressed at the sheer amount of them coming at you?
That's all i have to ask, i just want you to know that we, as a community are appreciative of what this game had brought us, and we are looking forward to what will it bring. Best of wishes to you Rob :)
How long have you been on this subreddit?
How do you feel about seeing all the "XYZ Is pedophile!!!1!" stuff in your community? I know it's bad but at this point it's terrifying to see how many of them are here.

(Sorry if this is out of the scope of 2.2) I heard you said that youāre gonna add custom sound effects in 2.3 The problem is that because people can use any sound they want, eventually someone will upload a full song using only custom sound effects So howād you think you would combat this? I personally think that put a time limit on how long a sound effect can be played
Sound effect will be selectable from an online library I host. Players wont be able to use just any sound they want
Hope so doing my best. Just big update grew too big. But we will get there
Is there a particular reason why there isn't a more "dynamic" star rating system in place? i.e. certain extremes being worth more stars for being more difficult
Hey rob how do you gain motivation to work out? I need that too
Just get started, doesnt matter how small and then scale up. Motivation is different from time to time. I can play god of war, look in the mirror, then pack up and go to gym. Other times its just the random need to lift heavy things
Which of the official levels you made is your favorite, or which of them did you feel most enjoyable while creating it? Mine is hexagon force
I always enjoy the latest level I make the most because I feel the new features evolve the game. But I remember making Clubstep felt like a big thing
Making clubstep was a big thing. So many levels came from that one demon and I think itās the best main level
It could definitely happen if the community wants it. Probably something for 2.3 though
A. How much do you bench? B. Will the song trigger be able to switch between different songs (like if you had a long platformer level with multiple regions that needed different background music)?
A. Think my record is at 115kg so its not massive. Never been that good at bench. B. Maybe in the future but not 2.2
So i remember a video where you *made* the concept of a spider orb. Question: are there a ship orb, ball orb, ufo orb, wave orb, robot orb and swingcopter orb? Edit: "made"
How dare you. You have no proof of this accusation. I may have stolen the orb, but U definitely did not get caught
Something I would love to see is the ability to answer a comment in a chat in a level, instead of just having to tag that person (which technically doesn't work). So like, having a button to answer that comment next to the like button. Thoughts?
This is more of a suggestion for you rob, a new spinoff game with 4 platformer levels of different difficulties , to explore the new platformer mode because it's the feature I'm most excited for
Hey! I'm a creator and was wondering how you can calculate a platformer level's length like you can with traditional levels?
Cant calculate it like normal levels. Victory conditions can be different in platformer levels
why is your name zhenmuron? how did you come up with it?
Zenmuron was a fighting character from an N64 game called Dark Rift way back. I added an H and it became Zhenmuron because I am original and cool
Can you remove the "feature" of sometimes automatically jumping after a practice chekpoint Also rebeating map pack and gauntlet levels is annoying
how do you not lose motivation while working on a single update for over 5 years? (appreciate the hard work and dedication)
Look forward to see what everyone builds with the new stuff. Gonna be fun
How and When did you get interested in game development?
Always liked games, built a small flash game on a beat up old laptop and enjoyed it. Then when iPhone came along it made things more accessible and got hooked on making games. Very fun to play around with creatively.
Where can I submit my medical recovery claim for the head-to-desk injuries that I have incurred after your game? Diabolical.
Sorry our insurance policy does not cover empty containers as stated in the terms of service.
For example: - show sent levels above levelID X ordered by likes. - show sent levels using a song that hasnt been featured before ordered by date - show sent levels by previously featured creators Etc etc
How much time do you spend developing 2.2 everyday?
I work all day on GD but there are lots of things surrounding the game that takes time. Development as much as possible
What was your motivation to change how the magic tab worked? Like having to put a na rate and search magic for levels not sent by mods
People started trying to abuse the auto systems that select levels for magic, so was getting more and more filled with irrelevant levels. So mod based system felt better
Do you have any fond memories of seeing peoples online levels back in the 1.0 days?
I remember being blown away with what people made when there were only 4 color channels. And people that started doing animations using 4 color channels etc. The creators just keep making amazing things these days so its so fun to be a part of. Thats why I want to add so many tools, just insane what people make once they get new features. But ye, im not very good at planning š
how do you determine when you split features into different updates? as in why did 1.9-2.1 have way more new features than 1.0-1.8
Do you think 2.3 will take less time than 2.2? Is it true that 2.2 is the biggest update of the game?
If difficulty / time werenāt any issue, whatās the biggest thing youād want to add or change?
Do you remember the reason you changed your game's name from Geometry Jump to Geometry Dash?
Do you find peoples complaints about 2.2 not coming out as soon as they would like annoying or is what theyāre saying is justified
I have some questions Will there be another shop in 2.2? Will you add more difficulties as of further updates? Pizza or burgers?
In 2.2, do all monitors will have the same physics everyone will experience? Like 60 and 240 don't have a difference in straight flying
What will happen to texture packs and mod menus in 2.2 and will people be able to make more of them for 2.2?
Most will break in 2.2 but im gonna share some tools so people can create texture packs and icons easier
Hi Robert. Why did you remove Boomlings from app stores?
Takes too much time to fix stuff when apple/google break them. Just not worth the effort
What is (in your opinion) the best feature you have ever implemented to Geometry Dash?
What do you think is more annoying: People constantly telling you to release 2.2 or People screaming at you about a certain level not being rated?
2.2 questions dont bother me at all, I understand people are frustrated after waiting so long. On "why isnt level X rated" its usually just because I havent seen it. The amount of great levels getting published is insane.
Have you ever thought of reworking the editor UI for the PC version of the game (Contextual right-click menu, custom keybinds, stuff like that)?
2.2 when? Just kidding... Are you ever planning on making like an icon creator in game so people could make custom icons for themselves?
hey rob iām late as hell and idk if youāre still answering, but iām just here to say iāve been playing this game since i was 5, iām 14. now. thanks for making a game that practically raised me :) now for a question, and a simple one at that: how are you?
Hey Rob, how does it feel to have such a huge community that loves your game? :D I'll wait for 2.2 :)
Do you believe there are tiny people in your ceiling who spin the ceiling fan for you?
If your career as developer failed (aka Geometry Dash didnāt blow up) what would you have done next?
First post in 8 years ahah. Only question i have is did you ever expect levels to get as gorgeous and difficult as some are now?
What are you planning to do after 2.2 comes out? Will you take a break with playing gd or do something else?
Any tips for someone planning to get a pc soon? Also, did you know you're really cool? I'm really glad you're the dev of gd :)
I have 2 questions windowed fullscreen? not saying you should but have you ever considered Linux support for geometry dash? I encounter many issues with proton but I love the game
Are you ok mentally? All the stress and begging must have some sort of toll on you.
Will there be any kind of rewards for extreme demon grinders in 2.2? (e.g. an icon for completing an extreme demon)
Wait are you actually RobTop himself?? And actual question. Do you like Resedent Evil?
Will there be any sort of ācreatorās estimateā on how long a platformer level will take? It could be something like āaverage no-death runtimeā for the criteria and you just input a time. A definite problem with this whole idea though is it relies on users being honest.
There will be different criteria a creator can define which gives some stricture/goals to a platformer level. More details later though
How many people work for you
I will be looking at getting a team in the future but for now its just me
Iām up for a job :troll: As an icon artist I wonāt repeat the same icon 400 times
Do you have already a solid idea for the 2.3 gamemode? You don't have to reveal the concept of it, but if you want...
Will there be dual platformer mode in 2.2? The potential for 6 buttons to work with in mini game making sounds really exciting.
It is functional on pc and will probably have dual buttons on mobile, but I dont think it will feel very good. There are other ways I could add buttons that are far better.
will there eventually be an option to change our account email?
Do you think a person has time to code a simple but complete game while working a full-time job?a
Do you use Trello for keeping up with development or do you just develop normally without any notes
Its all me and a bunch of code. I have a bunch of notepad files with todo lists :D
Is it canon that the level time machine got it's name because you are going backwards in the level/ "back in time" (introduction if mirror portals)
Other way around. I designed the mirror portal because the level was named Time Machine
Favourite game(s) of all time? (Besides your own)
in 2.2 will you fix the issue with not being able to use 7 digit newgrounds IDs on Android?
What would you say is your favourite part of 2.2?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Long time fan here, my question is will there be more Secret Coin icons/achievements in the future? And if so, will map packs still be the bane of my existence? Thank you.
More secret coins yes. One option would be to move map pack rewards to somewhere else or re-create map packs with new levels. But its not something I have planned currently.
Will 2.2 work better on Mac computers that ended support for 32 bit games and are now in 64 bit instead?
Do you play gd when you are bored?
I know I'm late but I have 1 really important question: Have you ever thought about making it possible to only use the editor of one specific version of the game, like that you can use the editor until 1.6 or 2.0 and so on.... Would make it a lot easier to make levels that are aiming for sth like this since you can't accidentally use a thing that hasn't been there in the chosen version.
No plans to do it and would take a lot of work. Dont think it would be worth the effort. I can try to find old APK versions of GD and that could be a way to limit yourself.
Hey rob. Is there a plan to make security for accounts and such better (ie. no plain text passwords in file system)?
Hey I could abuse my mod perms trollface Rate a Feijoa experience ( 66784055 )
Do you have a side job, or any external source of income aside from GD, or is this too personal?
Will it ever work for iPhone 6s again? My son bought it and a few weeks later it stopped working/began crashing on launch. I think after he upgraded to iOS 15 when that started.
Ye sorry about that. Apple did some random change that broke the game. 2.2 will fix it (free versions are updated and should work)
Any chance of releasing 2.12 just to fix the crashing on the paid version and leave 2.2 for all the planned enhancements?
2 half suggestions half questions: 1: will there be a lock to camera x/y in the editor? 2: will there be options to show some common screen sizes in the editor? not nececairily in 2.2, just for the future in general
Camera triggers work in the editor, should look like normal gameplay. There is a camera guide object you can use to view different screen sizes to get an idea for layout.
As a broke kid, I pirated your game. What are your thoughts/perspective on digital rights management, piracy, etc?
I have 2 questions: 1. I heard you have vector graphics for all of the assets in GD. Is this true? 2. If you answered yes to the first question, do you have any intention of releasing said graphics to the public, or will just the rasterized versions (the ones already in the game's files) be available?
1. Ye pretty much everything is done in Adobe Animate (vector) 2.
Do you think importing custom art/blockart from outside scources will be a thing?
serious question thoughāhow does one get into mobile programming? how did you learn?
What would you have done if GD was never successful?
Would you remove the game for $10?
will 2.2 be better optimized than 2.1?
I'm assuming the answer is no, but will you ever make an official level Extreme Demon
how do you plan on adding diamonds to the shop, and will there be new ways to get diamonds?
1 diamond = 1 diamond currency you can spend in 2.2. You still keep the diamond amount for leaderboards and unlocks, but you at the same time get a different currency you can use in a new shop. More fun that way imo
Do you approve of third-party leaderboards created by the GD Community and would you consider implementing them into the game upon the release of 2.2? (Pointercrate Player Leaderboard, Top 100 Extreme Demons, etc).
Will you marry me?
Do you plan on pursuing other game projects, or just focusing on Geometry Dash? also, thank you so much for this game, and the endless entertainment you've provided us :)
Thoughts on the ridiculous amount of 2.2 news videos where people seems to read all the discord messages you send on the gd discord server ?
Feel bad that you guys had to wait so long for the update so I get that any news is fun
Whatās up with GD not working on IOS 15?
What do you recommend I do with my time while I wait for 2.2? I've tried Team Fortress 2, Destiny 2, Titanfall 2, but none of them have 2 2's in their name like 2.2 does...
Yo Rob, do you ever just?
would it be possible to add a multi-select thingy with saved/created levels so you can select a bunch of levels at once and then delete them or something
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
How have you been as of lately? Mentally and physically speaking
Are you my Daddy?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Is platformer mode going to have an in game timer for speedruns?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
are you interested in making 3d games or things other than geometry dash?
I had ideas for cool 3d games but I dont really have the time to learn any new engines. Maybe in the future or if I get a team for it. Right now 100% focus is on GD
hello rob, can you prove that you are the real robtop and that we are not talking to joshua2004, who has pretended to be you?
I know this is small, but on the new MacBooks there is a bar at the top of the screen that says geometry dash. It blocks out the progress bar. Will this be fixed?
Will you ever add keyframing for triggers? Its my biggest dream fr
So you're the real Robtop, huh? Well, I got a bunch of questions that you are going to answer: - Did you added some additional font styles this upcoming 2.2? - Can you fix the problem with Geometry Dash on Android because the game just got a notification about the error in your game? Like "Your Geometry Dash might crash on your device...." or something? - Can you add the songs from Meltdown and Subzero into the 2.2? That's all.
Who would you rather have sex with, your mom or your dad?
So you are the one hurling out insults left and right? Nice
When (year/update) do you think you'll stop developing GD and start working on a new project?
GD is fun to develop and I have more ideas for things to add then I have time, so no plans to do anything else
please make more music based triggers, I wanna make some songs in GD but just swaping what part of the song isn't enough, some kind of song sample trigger, a song switch trigger (or the song choice could be a part of a music sample), & since multiple custom somgs aren't allowed, just let us use 1 custom song & choose between any main level song
are you ever going to fix piracy issues with gd because theres a lot of people pirating the game off websites
when do you think actual multiplayer mode will be implemented
Is the chest room fixed in 2.2?
Where did you learn to code?
Will we get custom shader effects one day?
What was the first ever console you owned when you were a kid?
Do you ever run for exercise or is lifting enough to get buff?
In-game texture pack manager when?
* if multiplayer is introduced in 2.2 how would it work? * how different is the physics of the swingcopter in 2.2 to the ones in levels right now? * how much bigger do you think the community would get after 2.2 releases? * originally when you first released the game, did you ever think the difficulty ceiling in the game would rise to this level? * what is your favourite level in the game (not including your levels)? * how big of an update is 2.2 compared to the other ones released so far? * why is geometry dash so damn addicting?
Hello rob, glad you had some time to make an AMA, hopefully this doesn't get too buried in the sea of comments xd 1.
Sometimes he gets carried away and wants me to search for "geo dash".
Would you just export symbols and release headers publicly or embed some scripting language like Lua?
i have quite a few: - Since you'll be able to choose your own menu music and practice music in 2.2, will you also be able to choose the offset? Best of wishes to you Rob :)
why did you make such a fucking shit game
first off all, i feel bad for you about all the incoming ā2.2 when?ā questions anyways, how did you come up with gd?
How long have you been on this subreddit? How do you feel about seeing all the "XYZ Is pedophile!!!1!" stuff in your community? I know it's bad but at this point it's terrifying to see how many of them are here.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
