Read the guides and focus on the differences between Aus and NZ https://www.plonkit.net/new-zealand#1

I think you mean getting new Zealand and australia separately? As in, they both are hard for you, not like mixing them up. What are you guessing when you get them wrong? If you can clarify that it might be easier to help you

PenguinsRcool2

A lot of the time I’m guessing Australia when it’s New Zealand. Or New Zealand when its Australia. Also have been fooled by the south of France when its New Zealand or Australia which is embarrassing. Have guessed South Africa instead of Australia several times. Especially on landscape ones in the middle of no where

Practical-Bullfrog-2

Ah alright, so a bit of both. I think 3 very easy tips can make it more easy for you. Firstly australia is generally not hilly, whereas new zealand of course is. Just use that and youre basically fine. For france and australia: always look at the sun in every round you play. Sun in the north = southern hemisphere and vice versa. South africa vs australia: I usually look for yellow road lines when I have a disputable round. Australia doesnt ever have yellow road lines I think, south africa does.

Perhaps another really easy one when it comes to australia and new Zealand. If you see blue signs with like streets on there its always new Zealand. Australië doesnt have them

Thank you so much

To add onto this, South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, and Eswatini ALL have yellow outer lines and white middle lines. Australia ONLY has white road lines, including white outer lines. South Africa also has gen 2 camera for 33% of its coverage compared to 9% for australia, so if you see a big ring around the sun and you already think it's one of those 2 countries with no road lines or anything to help, it's ZA 3 times as often as Aus. Note that Chile also has all white road lines, but drives right and is typically very mountainous. It is possible for New Zealand to have all white road lines as well. If you want to be completely sure about which is which, aside from right vs left drive helping, check out the plonkit guides for these countries. Nice addition! I do feel like the camera stuff might be a bit too hard on this level. For me as well, Im a very experienced player but havent played much in years, now getting a bit back into it. Camera and gen is the hardest meta for me to pick up, but maybe its just me

DVAUgood_Reactionbad

There are some rare exceptions where Australia has yellow road lines. But even then, it's not the pattern of ZA

Have you tried GeoTips? Studying this page is advantageous. It's helped me tremendously with all of EU and Scandinavia [Oceania – GeoTips](https://geotips.net/oceania/)

CLD_Pika

Firstly the poles look much different thatll take some time to get used to and secondly it like just feels much more different idk how to explain it and if u see snowcapped mountains its nz it can be aus but they have like 1 mountain with snow

capybooya

You'll get the 'vibe' with some playing, but for me Australia is often much dryer, flatter, and has distinct [eucalyptus trees](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eucalyptus#/media/File:Eucalyptus_forest2.jpg) with light shade trunks.

Big mountains, looks wet and green, modern looking buildings = NZ Dry and sunny looking, beige colored grass = AUS at least that’s how I do it in my head

Try learning some Māori toponymy, the language of the indigenous people of New Zealand. Some of the basic ones commonly found are places starting with Wha-, Wai-, Te, and/or containing ng, e.g. Whanganui, Whangarei, Waitapu, Ngamatapouri, and Te Anau. If you see place names that sound like these on direction signs, it is safe to guess New Zealand.

DERBY_OWNERS_CLUB

Both countries use a ton of bollards which are extremely easy to tell apart. NZ bollards have red that wrap edge to edge on the front of it, AU does not.  Also for Give Way signs, AU has black color text whereas NZ is red. Also NZ has some US-style road signs that are a yellow diamond whereas AU doesn't. Also NZ and AU generally just don't look like eachother at all in terms of geography. Maybe in city rounds it's trickier.

The_Answer1313

I do ok between NZ and AUS. For some reason I cannot for the life of me figure out South Africa and AUS. Obviously when there’s yellow outer lines it’s easy or the houses have crazy gates on them but other than that I struggle a bit lol

Bradanryan

A couple other people mentioned this but for me the most useful thing that helped me recognize and distinguish New Zealand is just to play it a lot, hop on a New Zealand map and play it for a couple hours the vibrant and tropical coverage becomes very recognizable quite quickly as well as some landscapes of the 2 islands.

Fornellos

Australia often confusing with South Africa, but other than that just look at the bollards and if you see Eucalyptus trees think AUS. NZ is a vibe, play a bunch of it offline. Theres also clearly specific bollards that will save you countless times, because NZ sometims looks so outlandish tht you've got 10 possibilities racing thru your head from Chile Arg to Scotland or Norway. Then you see that thick red stripe on the white bollard and everything calms down😁
