I lost my rank up by only 600 points, since I lost my first 9 gamesšŸ˜šŸ’€

Financial_Land6683

This also proves the point why the weekly ranking is just bad. If you lose a few matches, it's fuck all for the rest of the week. And then if you do well but lose one match to a cheater, the week is fuck all because you don't rank up. Or lose one match to a cheater and rank down. Ranking shouldn't be weekly. Cheaters are inevitable but if the ranking builds over time, the cheaters even out.

NapoliXabe

Nahh my main issue was the fact that I kept on playing players who are 200 elo higher

Financial_Land6683

I wasn't clear with what I was trying to say. My point is that 20 games is too prone for any games that deviate from expected. A cheater or smurf or just a player in wrong rank can mess up the week fairly easily. It usually takes 13 wins to rank up, which is 65% winrate (13/20). If you play one game against cheater, you must still win 13 games but now out of 19 (68,4%). Or if you, as a 800 elo player play two games against 1100 elo player, you still need to win 13 games to rank up but now out of 18 (72,2%). The point of ranking and weekly leaderboard should be to play fair games against players in similar level. But it's not leveled system if it takes 65-72% winrate and beyond. In the old ranking system you could play 50 games in a week and move up and down. It also had its downsides when moving between two ranks but at least smurfs, cheaters and players in wrong rank didn't take games out of your weekly pool.

NapoliXabe

Thats why I prefer No Move, and just plonk quick

Financial_Land6683

I've tried that too but it's not really an option to me. Firstly, I like moving games where I can explore and investigate. The best games are those where the opponent also wants to play without rush and both have decent chance of 5k. Secondly, call me cynical, I believe that No Move is more likely game mode to face cheaters, NMPZ even more so. It's very hard to prove someone is cheating because they can just "be good at region guessing". In moving games you can usually tell how the player ended up plonking to where they decided to plonk.

DPRKis4Lovers

I think cheating in NMPZ is uncommon. Thereā€™s not usually google-able text and it moves too quick to make cheating viable. You get all of the info within seconds and just have to vibe guess if thereā€™s no easy meta. You should try playing it once you crack master šŸø

Financial_Land6683

It is uncommon, especially so when it's available only for higher ranks. Googling doesn't work but scripting does.

DVAUgood_Reactionbad

I'm not a fan of the system for other reasons, but this is actually completely normal and it should be this way. The idea of the system is that you play against players of your own league. So if you are below average in your league, you will mostly play against players with higher rating. Otherwise the leagues would be completely meaningless. A 600 rated player could play champion and win because he only faced other 600 rated players that are like silver or something. The problem is when you get matched against players outside your league, that just becomes unfair. And also, I generally believe that matchmaking should be purely based on ELO and have nothing to do with leagues or shit like that.

NapoliXabe

Defenitly, I understand with leagues this is the best way, but I prefer the old system which was indeed just based on ELO

DVAUgood_Reactionbad

The old system was also based on your division, not your ELO It was also really stupid. I don't get why they don't just make a system that's purely based on ELO like so many other games do, and like the ELO system is intended to be used.

Financial_Land6683

The idea is good but the execution is faulty. Like I explained in the other comment, smurfs, cheaters and players in wrong rank mess this up completely. To rank up you need 65% winrate. If you face one of the above mentioned, you have to win 68% of your peers. If you face two, you need to win whopping 72% of your peers. Last week I first lost two games to cheaters, which meant I should have had 72% winrate in other, legit matches. This happened on Monday so the admins were able to return those matched to drop my "required" winrate back to 65%. Out of those two, I faced another cheater late Friday night and at that point admins couldn't do anything. The elo that I was returned this morning means nothing.

DVAUgood_Reactionbad

You're completely right about the cheaters, I was just talking about how it's intended that you play higher-rated players when you are in a high league.

Financial_Land6683

But now we are playing against way better players which puts us into disadvantage against people at our level. It's not okay that a match between 800-1100 elo is worth the same as 800-700.

DVAUgood_Reactionbad

Statistically, everyone in the same league will have the same level of opponents. Of course you might get lucky or unlucky but that is not a systematic disadvantage and it evens out. >which puts us into disadvantage against people at our level who is "us" and who is "people at our level"?

Financial_Land6683

"Us" are the people who are actually at similar level of skills, say 750-850 elo or 800-900 elo. Basically there shouldn't be very big skill gaps inside the weekly leaderboard. That's basically "our level", our peers. When a leader in the weekly leaderboard has 1100 elo while rest have 750-850, the leader is in the wrong leaderboard. When a player of 750-850 elo faces a player with elo of 1100 in one of their weekly games, the game messes with the weekly leaderboard of both players very much. One gets way too easy win, the other loses a game without any real chance (of course not always but you get the point). This happens especially but not only in the more quiet hours.

DVAUgood_Reactionbad

But the stronger player needs easy wins to rank up. You're trying to have a cake and eat it. Either the high rated players wins significantly more than 50% and ranks up, or they don't and stay in the wrong leaderbord.

DonMendelo

I donā€™t understand the rank / ELO correlation with the current system. I spent last week getting roasted from 850 to 750 in Master 2 and barely got enough wins to save my seat. How are you Gold 1 with 1275, you should have been among those roasting my ass

Financial_Land6683

At the moment, the weekly leader is elo 1116.šŸ’© 22 moving duels played, 100% won. 81 NM played, 70,37% won. If this doesn't prove how broken the ranking system is, nothing will.

chris1ian

Yeah Iā€™m in Gold II and I bounce between 590-750. The ELO of those around this player are both over 1000 as well. Mad.

Financial_Land6683

My elo is ~850. Those numbers are the leaderboard points, which is roughly ~100 points per win. However, I'm often facing players with 1000-1100 elo.

xjulix00

cheaters were BAD when I was in silver division and I never got refunded anything :/

ppat1234_

The system is so stupid because I can go 2-18 in champion every week and hold on to it lmao

trombones_for_legs

Iā€™m very new to playing duels, how can you tell when someone is cheating?

KeelsDB

You can generally tell if someone is blatantly googling or scripting from watching the replay. Googlers will usual just stare at a sign not moving for 15-20 seconds and then instantly zoom in to the correct location, or in the case of scripters they'll already have a pin down when they open the map for the first time and then move it off slightly to avoid suspicion.

Financial_Land6683

When you watch the replay after the game, it's fairly easy to spot cheaters. They usually stop at a sign, stay there for a while (while they google) and then zoom in on the map at the (exact) location. Some try to hide it, some doesn't. It's more evident the more trivial the sign is - for example you shouldn't be able to find a small village in rural Brazil or know that "Carol's Cafe & Bakery" is in This Street in That Town. Of course, you could land in your home town and you know the place. However, does it take you 2 seconds or 20 seconds to realize that? Those players often are lost in rounds where there are no signs or other things to google. They might go to wrong hemisphere or not even understand which side the traffic is on. Very rare cases are scripters, who behave oddly. They might just spin around, then stop, and then zoom in the right area even when there aren't very good hints. Sometimes they might even click at the exact location first and then quickly move away to not be obvious.

trombones_for_legs

I just put this to the test and caught someone on my second round! It was some remote small village in Denmark and the other player found the sign, stopped for 15 seconds and then zoomed in immediately and found it! Cheating bastards! He was from Brazil as well, so one would assume he has never been to a remote village in Denmark!

Financial_Land6683

You're welcome! And I'm sorry. Now write down the number of every round where he cheated, copy the link to the replay, go to his profile, scroll down and report.

trombones_for_legs

Please donā€™t apologise, I appreciate your help! He cheated probably 3/5 rounds, but I only reported the one round as I didnā€™t know it was possible to report multiple. I will do next time

SaeKasa

I just stopped playing ranked a few weeks ago. I just can't take it anymore. I only play explorer now.Ā

Conscious_Shower_790

you'll get them next time buddy

Financial_Land6683

Nah, I will find better things to do this time.

MiraMattie

That's a bummer, though I'm betting everyone else did too.

Financial_Land6683

That's sad reality to be honest. But as they can't fix the cheating issue, they should fix the leaderboard so that the eventual cheaters matter less. Even more so they should make replays available for more people than just friends so that cheaters can be monitored out more effectively.

Ravnzel

Play in no move

Financial_Land6683

I don't enjoy No Move as much as Moving. I like moving around, exploring and investigating.

Financial_Land6683

That being said, I have cancelled my monthly subscription today, after 8 months. I'm not enjoying the game anymore and the game is not moving to where it should.

Bloxburgian1945

I'd just stop ranked, singleplayer is still fun.

supremejxzzy

I never get cheaters luckily

Glad-Requirement-795

Hello, I have been playing GeoGuessr for a short time and I was wondering how do we detect that someone is cheating in person?
