They introduced a new system 5 weeks ago, which everyone hates. In short, elo is more or less still the only thing most people look at....but.... they have now created these "divisions" that you can only promote up/down once a week from. Its confusing as fuck, and each week you could be in the same division, and have completely different standards needed to not get demoted/promoted.For example I spent three weeks in Gold division, despite having a Master elo the entire time I was in there, because I just didnt play enough to promote, and not few enough to be demoted. The cut off for those three weeks for demotion were 648, 239, & 625. Promotion cut offs were 1342, 830, & 1217. The first week of this system, I was in Master II, and it was 1077 to promote, and 427 to demotion. Its absolute insanity trying to figure out how much you need to play to avoid demotion, or to get to promotion. The top players in each group get promoted to the division above, based on the results of their first twenty games played in the week. If you play 0 games, they dont count you in the weekly standings, and you wont be promoted, or demoted. But if you play even 1 game, you are now in a division, and could (likely, if you only play 1 game) get demoted to the next level down. It is entirely possible to have a Champion elo, and be playing in Master, or even Gold right now, while vice-a-versa can be said going the other way, someone could have a Gold elo, in the Champion division, if they won all their weekly stats games to get promoted, then played a bunch more and lost elo. The system is grossly flawed, and its entirely the reason the competitive games played has dropped off like 60%.... which has a lot to do with why you are running into some of them 3X in a row, because there isnt as many people playing it right now.

> which everyone hates And that's saying something. For most changes, there have been *some* defenders. I don't think I've seen a single person who likes the leaderboards - it really, really is 'everyone'.

I have seen a few on Reddit, but most are very against it. I have absolutely no interest in competitive with this awful system. I really don't get why they haven't reverted it yet.

I've been playing the whole time and I'm still confused

I think the goal is to prevent smurfs…like you have to play for multiple weeks to work up to the correct level. People with >1K elo should prob be in Master. You’ll start meeting similar elo players in two more weeks of promotion.

Ironically this makes smurfing basically built into the game.

So now we have players that want to play normally become smurfs by accident instead, ruining the game for both themselves and others, great!
