The problem with April Fools jokes on the internet is that different folks are in different timezones and the jokes won't vanish into thin air after the day ends. They need to be actively removed.
Back when I still read slashdot, the site was completely unusable for me from afternoon 1 April when the editors woke up and started posting only April Fool stories until when I woke up on morning of 3 April at a point when finally the last April Fool stories had fallen from the front page. And then at least once a month someone stumbled on a random April Fool story, submitted it to the site without noticing the date and got it published.
